Although reluctant to admit it, Chris understood that his operation had been out of control from the beginning. Except for the first ambush in the warehouse, the remaining fights completely deviated from the planned trajectory, resulting in the current situation.
Li Yexing's condition was unknown, Lilith mutated, and Norman ran away and was nowhere to be found. Nemesis lifted Lilith, hanging from its claws. Blood flowed like a fountain from Lilith's wound down Nemesis' left arm.
Lilith struggled frantically, making wild beast-like howls. Chris knew he didn't have time to hesitate. He lifted Li Yexing and tried to take him away from the battlefield. Watching Li Yexing's back as he was taken away, Lilith hung on Nemesis' claws and howled. The sound was like a wild beast trying to tear its prey apart, but it also seemed like a cry.
Chris gritted his teeth and didn't look back. At least he had to save Li Yexing in this situation. Seemingly tired of it all and perhaps to vent its frustration, Nemesis swung the left arm holding Lilith and crazily hammered it on the cold cement floor. Lilith's blood splattered and the indifferent girl finally let out a heart-wrenching scream, crying not only because of the pain but also because of loss.
"Forgive me..." Chris said softly. However, at this moment, a bloody hand slowly reached up to Chris' back and firmly grabbed his shoulder strap. "Where the fuck are you going?"
Chris turned his head and looked at Li Yexing in surprise. He saw Li Yexing half-collapsed on him, his face pale and weak, but his eyes were like demons crawling out of hell, staring at Chris fiercely.
Under such a gaze, Chris, who had been through many battles, felt inexplicably afraid. "Are you awake?" Chris asked.
"I'm asking you, where the fuck are you going?" Li Yexing asked with emphasis, not paying attention to Chris' surprise and fear.
"The situation is out of control. I have to take you away. The BSAA and the United Nations troops will arrive soon. They will handle the follow-up matters," Chris explained hurriedly.
"WHAT ABOUT HER!?" Li Yexing roared in anger, his tone not at all like someone who was dying. He sprayed blood all over Chris' face.
"Can't you hear her calling me?" Holding his injured abdomen, Li Yexing said viciously.
He pushed Chris away, almost falling down. Chris tried to support him, but to his surprise, Li Yexing managed to stand up. He turned around, swaying, and looked at Lilith's body hanging on Nemesis' claw. Lilith was already silent, covered in blood. Her beautiful silver hair was stuck with blood, and her mutated claws were broken, hanging down miserably. Only her chest, which could be vaguely seen under the torn clothes, still emitted weak red light, beating weakly as if telling Li Yexing that she was still alive.
"Lilith... Lilith... wait for me, I'll come... to save you..." Li Yexing gritted his teeth and walked step by step towards Lilith, dropping drops of blood on the ground.
"You're crazy!" Chris exploded, "Open your eyes and look! That's not Lilith anymore! That's B.O.W.! A biological weapon! A monster!" As he spoke, he reached out to grab Li Yexing, but Li Yexing just turned his head and gave him a cold, hollow look filled with killing intent, like a dead person who never closed their eyes. Chris even suspected that Li Yexing was already dead, and what was in front of him was just a corpse supported by an obsession with that girl.
"I really admire you..." Chris sighed, picked up his gun, and fired bullets at Nemesis' arm that held Lilith.
Nemesis was already on its last legs, having suffered too much damage in the fight with Lilith. The virus inside its body could no longer support its regenerative abilities, and the pain from the bullets penetrating its muscles made it unable to help but howl and swing its left arm. Lilith was thrown high and then fell to the ground. The bulging veins on her body began to subside, the mutated claws slowly shrank, and finally turned back into her slender hands. Blood flowed down the girl's body onto the cold concrete floor.
Nemesis tried to grab Lilith again, but Chris's firepower was constantly destroying its almost irreparable body. This kind of damage was not enough to destroy this terrible monster, but it was enough to delay its progress.
On the other side, Li Yexing stumbled forward, bent over to pick up the dropped Glock, and walked towards Lilith while firing bullets at Nemesis one by one. The pain was about to disappear, leaving only coldness, but Li Yexing couldn't stop. His thoughts seemed to return to that small room, where the silver-haired girl always had a sweet smile on her expressionless face.
"I will protect that smile, even if it means being crushed to pieces, I will show it to you!"
Li Yexing, feeling somewhat dazed, stopped in his tracks with his empty gun in hand. He smiled and stood in front of the girl, turning around to face Nemesis who had been blocked by him.
"Dare to touch my woman?" His face, which had lost all its anger, once again hung a crazed smile. Even if it was dying, Roples' mad dog would show its fangs to its ignorant enemy, "Watch me kick your ass!"
Chris had run out of bullets, and he subconsciously reached for his waist, only to find it empty. He was out of bullets!
"DON'T JUST STAND THERE! I RUN OUT OF BULLETS! RUN!" Chris shouted at Li Yexing, but he ignored him and just stared at the monster in front of him, with a smile that seemed to be splitting his mouth.
Nemesis couldn't understand how Li Yexing, who should have fallen, was now standing in front of him, but its mission had not changed, to retrieve T-Lilith. The emotionless monster didn't need to think, it just needed to complete its mission. As for the obstacle in front of it, it only needed to destroy it completely!
Nemesis charged toward Li Yexing.
In shocked eyes of Chris, Li Yexing rushed towards Nemesis who was coming towards him with a crazy laugh. Nemesis swung its mutated arm and swept it towards Li Yexing. Chris could hardly bear to see what would happen next, but he saw Li Yexing suddenly fall to the ground, and then a slide dodge avoided the thunderous blow from Nemesis. Li Yexing then charged at Nemesis, who only felt a sharp pain in the chest wound torn open by Lilith.
It roared and grabbed Li Yexing, who had not yet had time to regenerate the broken tentacles and threw him out fiercely. Li Yexing fell to the ground, rolling in embarrassment, and finally lay on the ground like a dead dog. Nemesis could not understand the meaning of this suicidal charge.
It was just about to turn around when it saw Li Yexing raise his head and laugh crazily at it. In his bloody hand, he slowly raised a finger with a shiny metal ring on it. Li Yexing's smile was full of sarcasm as he said softly, "Explode, you bastard."
Like the death sentence of the Grim Reaper, the next second, a fragment grenade that had been stuffed into the monster's chest exploded with a bang. Blood and flesh mixed together and spewed out from the wound in Nemesis' chest and its mutated mouth. It couldn't even scream before stumbling and falling to the ground with a loud noise.
"He... He killed it?" Chris could not even dream that this mercenary who had been stabbed in the abdomen and was about to die himself would be able to erupt with such strong power for a girl who was not even human. With his life on the line, he made a lethal move that put Nemesis in the grave. The mad dog of Roples... lived up to its reputation!
On the other side, Li Yexing, who could no longer stand up, crawled slowly toward the girl on the ground with bloodstains. When he reached her, he exerted all his strength and managed to sit up. Trembling, he reached out and gently hugged Lilith.
"Lilith..." he called softly the name he had given to the girl.
It seemed that the girl heard his voice. She trembled slightly in his arms and a weak voice came from her lips, "Yexing... Yexing? Is it Yexing..."
"It's me, Lilith. It's me," Li Yexing responded softly.
"Good... good..." The girl opened her eyes with difficulty. Tears flowed down her cheeks. She tried hard to reach out and touch Li Yexing's face. Li Yexing grabbed her hand and gently pressed it against his cheek.
"Lilith... hurts... It hurts... It's painful... But seeing that Li Yexing is still alive, it doesn't hurt anymore..." The girl said, looking at Li Yexing's pale smiling face and his doting eyes.
A smile appeared on her face. Looking at Li Yexing and Lilith leaning against the container, Chris began to report to the BSAA. Nemesis had been killed. With the help of local mercenaries, he had once again solved a biohazard crisis. There were casualties on-site, and they urgently needed medical support.
In the end, the backup they were waiting for never came. The promised support had become the cleanup crew. Suddenly, the body of Nemesis beside them started to move. It was convulsing violently, with blood bubbles appearing all over its body. Its mutated arms and the lower body gradually fell off within the bubbles, and its mutated mouth made strange noises. At this point, it had completely lost its controllability as a B.O.W. and had become a mindless monster with only a desire for slaughter.
"BE CAREFUL!" Chris shouted at Li Yexing and Lilith, who were not far from Nemesis.
Li Yexing and Lilith had of course seen the abnormality of Nemesis. Weak Li Yexing frowned and said, "Can't you feel the atmosphere, you dickhead?"
Lilith reached for her waist where Li Yexing had given her a desert eagle. But she was too weak to even hold the gun. Just then, a big hand covered her small hand, and Lilith looked up to see Li Yexing's indulgent smile.
The two looked at each other, and together they lifted the gun in their hands and aimed it at the struggling Nemesis on the ground. They saw the mutated mouth of Nemesis open towards them, with flesh and blood churning inside. Several weak tentacles stretched out and weakly waved at Li Yexing and Lilith.
Li Yexing grabbed Lilith's hand and lifted the gun. He took a deep breath and then shouted, "JACKPOT!"
With a "bang", the huge recoil knocked the two exhausted people to the ground. The bullet from the desert eagle roared out, hitting the monstrous creature's mutated mouth and exploding into a large flower of blood. Blood and flesh flew out from behind the creature.
Nemesis screamed in agony, and white mist emanated from its body. The blood from its wounds gushed out uncontrollably, and its flesh quickly withered, turning into a pile of rotten meat in the pool of blood. This time, Nemesis had completely lost its life.
"Are you guys okay?" Chris hurriedly ran towards the two who had fallen to the ground. When he arrived at their side, he saw that Li Yexing and Lilith were embracing each other, lying on the ground with their hands still holding the gun, looking as if they were asleep. Chris breathed a sigh of relief.
