Chapter 41: Murder !

Year 2

Several days had passed since Tsunade had joined Heiwa to ask to become Sakura's apprentice. Sakura had asked her student to join her this morning so that they could discuss in more detail the teenager's expectations of becoming a medic ninja.

— "If you've made it this far it means you've passed my first test, so I'll skip all the unnecessary talk about what being a ninja medic entails," Sakura began as she walked along the main road of Ta No Kuni accompanied by Tsunade.

— "Will all this teaching make me as strong as you ?" The blonde asked with a certain amount of excitement mixed with admiration for the pink haired young woman.

— "What exactly are you looking for ?" Asked the rose to better understand her former master's words.

— "I don't want to see my loved ones die ever again ! I don't want to feel as helpless as I did during the war ! I want to... I want to be strong enough to always tip the balance !" The blonde replied with conviction and determination.

Sakura watched the girl out of the corner of her eye and realized that this Tsunade seemed much more vulnerable than the woman she had become in her future. Sakura realized that no matter what the time frame, Tsunade had gone through terrible trials to become a formidable Kunoichi.

— "You know that most of your time is going to be spent studying and not fighting," Sakura clarified to calm the teenager.

— "But... how did you become so powerful in battle while learning medicine ? I saw you fight ! You mastered those ninjas so well that you must have learned to fight too, right ?"

— "Because I studied the right things to become this way," Sakura replied as a slight smile played on her lips, "but I'll grant you, I also practiced a lot, but studying is part of the training."

— "I still don't understand how studying is going to make me strong ?" Tsunade exclaimed puzzled at her words. She was disappointed because she had imagined that this woman was going to teach her to become a great shinobi, not just a simple healer, and from what she was saying, the studies would only be about the medical aspect of Ninjutsu.

Sakura stopped in the middle of the main road before turning to the girl. She could easily understand her disappointment as Tsunade had not yet imagined how her chakra control would make her not only an outstanding medic ninja, but also a formidable Kunoichi in battle. The rose knew that she had to show her, not with words, but with something concrete, something that would convince her. She looked around before spotting a stone that matched her expectations. She bent down and picked up a large stone that was the size of her hand.

— "Do you see this stone ?"

— "Hai ?" Replied the blonde who couldn't see what her sensei was getting at.

— "Is it possible to break it by force ?"

— "No, it is not."

No sooner had Tsunade finished saying this word than she saw the stone shatter into a thousand pieces. Her eyes widened in awe, she had never seen anyone do this before. Sakura seemed to have applied simple finger pressure to the stone to achieve this result.

— "Ho-How !?" Tsunade asked immediately, she couldn't believe it.

— "Because I've been studying the human body and chakra very diligently," Sakura replied, dusting the dust off her hand. "Right now, I'm the only person in the world who can do what you saw. All my opponents think I have superhuman strength from a Kekkei Genkai. But know that what I have just done can be done by anyone. All you have to do is work hard for it and above all study very diligently."

— "Anyone ?" The blonde was astonished by such a statement.

It could imply that if any ninja was capable of such strength, the next conflicts would be all the more devastating.

— "Almost everyone... but only if we tell them how, and you Tsunade... if you really work hard you'll succeed," the rose corrected as she resumed her walk, "and believe me, I'm sure you will."

— "How can books and medicine teach me to break a stone with my own strength ? And what good will that do me ?" Tsunade asked curiously.

— "By controlling your chakra."

— "But I already control it, if I didn't I wouldn't be able to perform certain techniques," the teenager affirmed.

— "Yes, you have the basics of all ninja. But it's by studying the human body and how to heal it that you will push your chakra control to the max. You will be able to use it with more precision, you will even discover ways to use it that you can't even imagine. Your control of chakra will be such that no one will be able to reach it. And one day you'll be able to break mountains," Sakura explained, remembering her former master at the height of his greatness.

— "You speak of me as if you're sure I will."

— "Because I know you will, I saw the potential in you right away to be able to handle this training. We wouldn't be here if you hadn't passed the test I placed in the book I gave you," Sakura caught herself and couldn't tell her the truth.

— "I understand sensei."

— "Another thing Tsunade... brute force isn't always the answer, sometimes a small attack can be much more effective."

— "How so ?"

Sakura raised her index finger before gathering chakra on it. It suddenly turned green and a scalpel formed along her finger as the blonde watched in amazement. She placed the finger just at the level of the Senju's jugular, at a distance that was completely safe for the teenager.

— "A simple gesture of my finger, and you would bleed to death in seconds. You see, it doesn't take superhuman strength to do that, but just using a tiny amount of chakra," Sakura demonstrated before deactivating her technique. "Being a doctor doesn't mean we're only here to save lives... it's the opposite. It's because we have the knowledge to save lives... that we also know how to remove it effectively and in a way that the enemy has no idea."

As she explained all this, Tsunade had no doubt, she wanted to become like this woman.

— "Sensei..."

— "Yes Tsunade ?"

— "Who taught you all this ?"

— "A wonderful woman," Sakura replied with a tender smile as she looked into Tsunade's eyes.

While Sakura was training Tsunade, Madara was currently in the company of the so-called Jiraiya. The atmosphere between the two men was quite different, the teenager had no idea how to react to this legendary man. The latter was looking at him with his piercing eyes and was trying to understand why his wife had assured him that this awkward-looking boy had real potential. Madara had his arms crossed and was probing the teenager while studying his body language. It was obvious that this Jiraiya was uncomfortable in his presence, so much so that he saw him swallow with apprehension.

— "Sensei ?" The young boy finally asked feverishly.

— "Hai ?"

— "Was... was it you who accompanied Sakura-sama to the war ?"

— "Form your real question," Madara demanded sharply.

— "Uh... are you the shinobi with the brown kimono and the straw hat everyone's talking about ?"

— "Hai," Madara said just as coldly as he had since he started talking.

To have this confirmed did not reassure Jiraiya at all, and he wondered if he could dare to ask anything that was on his mind at the time. Indeed, he had heard a lot of rumors from his former comrades in the Leaf. Were they true ? Or were they just exaggerations of reported facts ? Jiraiya hesitated, could he ask these questions without incurring the wrath of this renowned shinobi ? But curiosity won out, it was in his nature to know.

— "Is it... is it...," but he was so torn by his inquisitive nature and fear of his master's reaction that he couldn't express himself properly.

— "Jiraiya ! Whatever your question is, ask it !" Madara demanded, bordering on exasperation.

He kept his composure but didn't appreciate the teenager's lack of emotional control, it wasn't worthy of a quality ninja. He would have to do something about it and fast !

— "Are the rumors true that you destroyed Uzushio ?" The young boy finally asked.

— "Hai," Madara answered without a moment's hesitation.

At this blunt and brutal answer, Jiraiya felt even more vulnerable to this man. He couldn't believe that he was being trained by the legendary Uchiha Madara. But in the end what disturbed him the most, bordering on shame and fear, was that he was going to be the student of a bloodthirsty murderer who had not hesitated to eradicate an entire people. This did not escape the dark-haired man who asked him straight out, "Are you afraid ?"

— "N... No," Jiraiya replied, not very sure of himself.

No sooner had he started to answer in the negative than Madara reacted in a flash and closed the distance between the young boy and his position. He grabbed Jiraiya by the collar of his kimono and lifted him off the ground with such force that the teenager closed his eyes in fear and reflex just before he opened them again to hear his master's voice.

— "Don't ever lie to me Jiraiya," Madara thundered in a threatening voice. "I only agreed to train you because my wife sees potential in you that deserves to be exploited. But I highly doubt it ! What I see wouldn't even merit my attention, so I'll ask you again for the last time : are you afraid, Jiraiya ?"

The Uchiha not only held the teenager in the air with vigor, but he also activated his Sharingan, the three tomoe of which began to spin slowly.

— "Yes ! Yes, I'm scared !" Jiraiya admitted as he suddenly saw the three tomoe of Madara's Dôjutsu swirl around. He had heard many stories about the abilities of these wards and he had no desire to be subjected to such a technique.

— "Good !" The Uchiha said as he deactivated his Sharingan. "I hope you know where you stand if you try to lie to me again ! Is that clear ?"

— "Very clear sensei !" Jiraiya replied immediately before being placed back on the ground.

— "First lesson : as a future shinobi, you'll have to learn to lie better because it's the basis of our profession. But, there are three people you should never lie to in Heiwa, Madara began to teach."

— "Who are they ?"

— "My wife, myself and the Uzukage," the dark-haired man revealed.

The term Uzukage made the young man frown.

— "Uh... I'm not sure I understand," Jiraiya began before he was punched in the stomach with a heavy blow that took his breath away. He fell to his knees from the pain he felt and considered himself lucky he didn't throw up his lunch.

— "I hate to repeat myself... just state your question and don't beat around the bush !" Madara demanded sternly.

The boy took a good minute to catch his breath while rubbing his stomach as the pain still throbbed.

— "If you destroyed Uzushio, how come I don't have to lie to a man who is supposed to be dead ?"

Although Madara didn't show it, he was inwardly pleased that the teenager had had this thought. After all, maybe Sakura was right about this young boy's abilities.

— "Lesson two : a ninja is not only an assassin or a fighter, he is in most cases an information gatherer. So here is your first long-term mission Jiraiya : answer your own question. In one month you will report to me on the information you have discovered and the conclusion you have started to make. All without anyone finding out what you are doing."

— "Hai !" Jiraiya said immediately, understanding that even if his methods were unorthodox, this legendary ninja was giving him a chance to prove himself.

— "Why did you come all the way to Heiwa ?" Madara questioned.

Jiraiya was about to say that he didn't understand the question, but he paused in his inspiration when he saw Madara's left eye frown slightly. Seeing that look made Jiraiya wonder if he could read his mind ? In any case, the young boy felt that he had just escaped another violent punch and decided to tell the truth.

— "Because apart from Tsunade I have no one..."

— "It seems to me that you had another teammate and your sensei is still alive at the last news."

— "Nah ! Orochi-teme is just a fool and sensei... my old sensei didn't really have time to take care of us anymore," Jiraiya explained, lowering his eyes as he thought about those days.

— "Don't show that kind of emotion Jiraiya ! You're allowed to have them, but in private, where no one can see them and especially where no one can use them against you. You can show them to someone you care about, but the rest of the time you will show an unfailing attitude."

— "Hai sensei," the boy said immediately.

— "From tomorrow you will join the Heiwa military cell under the supervision of Matsuo-san from six in the morning until noon every day ! Then you will eat as much as you want, followed by a one-hour nap to allow your body to recover from the morning. In the afternoon if I am available I will take care of your training, if I am unable because of my obligations you will carry out your mission... of course you are free to carry out your mission at any time of the day or night."

— "Hai sensei."

— "One last thing, when you join the military corps, no one must suspect you're a newcomer, no one must remember you," Madara added, making Jiraiya's eyes widen.

— "That's impossible..."

— "Wrong ! You're a shinobi Jiraiya ! So think like a shinobi ! As my apprentice you must learn to think like one and not like a beginner ! So now explain to me how you will do it ?"

— "I... I... hmm," Jiraiya began before thinking with a concentrated pout.

— "You have the right not to know," Madara added after a few seconds of silence.

— "The only problem is that I'll need some time."

— "Explain yourself."

— "If I had time to observe the routine of what Matsuo's cell does I'd be better able to blend in with his unit," Jiraiya explained, already thinking of some ideas.

— "Except that unfortunately life doesn't always work out the way you expect it to and you have to be able to improvise when the time comes," the dark-haired man retorted. "So, knowing that you're pressed for time, what would you do to join this unit now ?"

— "Uh... I..."

— "Think like a shinobi !" Madara called back.

— "I... I'll go to where the men are getting ready, I'll get rid of one of the soldiers before taking his place with a Hengen so I can follow the training," Jiraiya answered with a small smile happy with his unexpected offer.

— "Well, now that you understand how a shinobi should think, find another solution before tomorrow morning that won't endanger any lives in the military," Madara said before disappearing into a swirl of leaves.

Day 731

— "How long do you think it will take you to finish the Ashina seals ?" Madara asked.

— "By the end of the week everything should be finished and the wall should be the equivalent of the old Uzushio wall if not better," he said.

If there was one thing Madara had to admit, it was the effectiveness of the Uzumaki seals and they had proven themselves on the Uzushio wall. Indeed, during Madara's Shinra Tensei attack, only the ramparts remained standing.

— "Suzuki-san, what's the news about the army corps led by Matsuo-san ?"

— "Nothing to report. We are seeing a great improvement and everything is going well."

To the people around the table, this answer was quite satisfactory, but to Madara the answer inspired two things. On the one hand, he too was pleased with the corps' results, but on the other hand, it meant that Jiraiya had managed to infiltrate undetected. Sure, the master could be pleased with his student, but it reinforced his concerns that other ninjas might have the same idea. But the Heikage was not afraid of anything, if it were to happen, he knew they would be able to defend themselves and protect the peace they all wanted to keep.

At the same time, a bird flew into the room and landed in front of Sakura. She recognized the bird and quickly removed the message from its leg.

'Nibi cloistered in a cave ten kilometres from the eastern border of Ta No Kuni. Head north from Kasigai village to a river and upstream.

I'll wait for you.

Kakuzu.'

— "Madara," Sakura interjected, interrupting the day's military council after reading Kakuzu's message.

— "Hai ?"

— "He found another one," Sakura replied before dipping the paper into a brazier.

— "Well, Ashina, I'll leave you to see what happens next with Suzuki ! Duty calls," Madara ordered before standing up followed by his wife.

— "How many days will you be back ?" Suzuki asked as Ashina looked over the day's scrolls.

— "Tomorrow if all goes well," Sakura replied.

At the same time, on the other side of town as Sakura and Madara were leaving the city, a man was eating a bowl of rice with pieces of chicken. He was waiting for orders from his military leader, so he had taken a room in one of the city's inns. He changed rooms every three days so that he would never be in the same place to avoid questions.

He was currently eating at an outdoor table in the backyard of the inn. It was getting crowded as it was about to be lunchtime.

But that didn't worry him much, Nao Hyûga was considered the best, it was in his ability to make himself invisible in the middle of a crowd. He was so skilled and comfortable that he blended in easily like the common man.

Suddenly, his meal was interrupted by a pretty little bird that landed on the table where he was eating. So as not to look suspicious, Nao took a small purse out of his pocket. He opened it and took a small pinch of seeds before spreading them on the wooden table.

— "Here you go, handsome, eat," the Hyûga said delicately as the little bird made hesitant movements before finally pecking gently.

To any outsider, he was just an ordinary man feeding a simple bird, but the truth was quite different. As he dropped another pinch of seed, Nao managed to stroke the delicate animal and remove the tiny message attached to its leg.

The Hyûga clutched the piece of parchment in his hand before resuming his meal as if nothing had happened. Putting a piece of chicken in his mouth he weakly channeled his chakra into his eyes to activate his Byakugan there and read through his hand.

'The pawn takes the king.'

To the average person this would be just a chess move on a piece of paper, but to Nao it had a whole new meaning. This sentence was the trigger that meant it was time to set up the second phase of his coming to this place.

Three quarters of the time he was sent on infiltration and espionage missions, but today his Hokage was asking him to commit one of the most dangerous missions in the world. A mission of a rank that hardly anyone knew existed.

SS class mission : assassinate a Daimyô !

Nao finished his bowl of rice, enjoying the succulent chicken before quenching his thirst with a glass of sake as a digestive.

As he watched the little bird in front of him, Nao took a small pinch of seeds to bring the animal closer to him. When it was close enough, he hooked a message to the bird's leg with a fluid and almost invisible gesture before standing up.

— "Tavern keeper !" Nao said as he placed some ryo coins on the table in front of the person in charge, who nodded to him.

He walked towards the exit of the establishment and in an instant he blended into the crowd as if he had never existed.

At all times Nao had a Hengen on his eyes so that they appeared brown, allowing him to camouflage his Byakugan and especially to activate it when he wanted. Thanks to this, he was able to avoid many of the patrols that circulated in the city by making occasional checks. Because yes, in this city every person living there had identity papers, which was revolutionary for the time.

— "Excuse me sir, I think I got lost," Nao said to a man in front of his fabric stand.

— "Hello to you, there's no problem, what are you looking for ?" The man asked as a troop of soldiers crossed the street behind the Hyûga.

— "Which way is the noble district ? I have a message to deliver and I'm already late," Nao replied, lifting a bag strapped to his right side.

— "So, you keep following the road until the next intersection, you turn right and you should see an inner wall in the distance, it's over there."

— "Thank you," said Nao, who knew the road perfectly well, but who needed to pretend until the patrol had moved away from him. The spy could very well have used the rooftops to get around, but not knowing if there were any shinobi present, he preferred to use the semi-civil way.

Once in sight of the inner wall, Nao reactivated his Byakugan and counted a dozen guards located at the gate, behind the portcullis and above it. Analyzing their position he found a blind spot and quickly channeled chakra into his body while no one was looking towards him. He transformed himself into a nobleman he had spotted who often passed through this entrance.

He changed his walk and his pace before passing the guards who saluted him. He returned the salute without forgetting to add a smile to his act. It was one of the things he loved most about his job : deceiving the enemy.

He continued to walk quietly down the street as the buildings became much more sophisticated and beautiful. He could see the Daimyô's house from a higher place and took the opportunity at the corner of a house to change his Hengen into that of a servant before waiting.

At this time of the day, the house of the administrative chief should normally be restocked with food. So he waited a few minutes for a large cart full of raw materials to pass by on the street before sneaking in. Thanks to his improved movements, he climbed aboard the cart without anyone seeing him.

Once he was out of sight he changed his form again and transformed himself into a front barrel using the Hengen technique and let himself be rocked by the movement of the cart for the next few minutes.

— "Halt !" Ordered one of the guards posted in front of the Daimyô's building.

— "Ohhh, take it easy my dear," said the coachman, pulling on the reins of his horse.

— "Ôhayo Kenzo, usual delivery ?" Asked one of the guards as another positioned himself in front of the horse while a third climbed into the cart to check the contents.

— "Yep, everything okay on your end ?" Asked the man named Kenzo.

— "We're fine."

— "Everything is in order," said a man as he got out of the vehicle.

— "You may pass, Kenzo," said the guard.

The coachman gave his horse a gentle whip and the movement resumed.

Another minute passed before another stop was made, except this time the driver dismounted and began to unload his cargo, quickly followed by many servants.

— "Quickly ! Take this to the kitchen and pantry ! We need to get it all stored so we can start tonight's meal !" Said what seemed to be the butler of the house.

A dozen people set about emptying the contents of the trolley before carrying it into the kitchen cellar.

And that's how Nao Hyûga entered his target's house without being spotted by anyone. He was transported by being transformed into a barrel.

Nao waited for ten minutes in his inanimate form before finally releasing the Hengen to resume his old appearance. Immediately he activated his Byakugan to see where the world was and also to spot his target.

— "Only three guards near him," Nao whispered to himself before opening the cellar door.

Thanks to his Dôjutsu, it took Nao only two minutes to reach the corridor leading to the Daimyô's flats. The three guards were arranged fairly far apart so that they could see each other. In addition, the door to his target's flats was also open. Nao pulled a kunai from under his jacket before running towards the three men blocking his path.

Thanks to his Byakugan he threw his weapon with surgical precision in the direction of the throat of the one who was furthest from his position. With this gesture he was going to kill two birds with one stone : divert attention and avoid a possible alarm. The weapon was stuck in the guard's throat and he fell to the ground with a thud and a horrible gurgling of blood.

The other two people immediately turned their heads towards their fallen comrade and Nao took advantage of this.

As soon as he was within striking distance of another guard he cocked his arm. His eyes were staring at the breathing of his future victim.

Now !

He planted his second kunai just as his target had exhaled all the air from his lungs and so he could not make a sound as the weapon penetrated him.

— "Ghn !"

As the second one collapsed to the ground, Nao had already covered almost the entire distance that separated him from the last guard who had drawn his sword and was preparing to strike the assassin.

The Hyûga easily deflected the weapon with the fighting style of the Hyûga Clan before bringing his index and middle fingers right into the throat of his opponent. The blast of chakra cut the carotid artery, knocking out the last guard with pain who drowned in his own blood in a few seconds... all under the gaze of the Daimyô who didn't move for a moment.

— "You don't seem surprised," Nao remarked, turning to Hashuba.

— "I knew that sooner or later this day would come," said the Daimyô calmly, who was obviously not afraid of the fate that awaited him.

— "I understand."

— "Who ?"

— "It doesn't matter," Nao said, using his Byakugan to observe the surroundings to see if anyone was approaching their position : No one.

— "She has one for me, and if I'm going to die I'd like to know the person who ordered my assassination," Hashuba Shôta said unperturbed as he stood up with his scabbard in hand.

— "Konoha," Nao replied as he came closer.

— "I see... however, there's just one small detail you won't like," the Daimyô added, slowly spreading his feet in a fighting stance.

— "What is it ?"

— "I'm not like the other Daimyô and I don't intend to go down without a fight," Hashuba replied, drawing his sword in a fighting stance.

Nao didn't dawdle any longer and drew two more kunai from his pouch before confidently charging his target. After all, whatever the Daimyô might say, he was just a civilian who knew how to wield a sword : it shouldn't be too difficult to defeat him.

Except that Nao had underestimated the Daimyô. Indeed, Hashuba was a skilled swordsman and it was partly thanks to this that he had been able to take over Ta No Kuni.

His movements were fluid, unpredictable and he was always dodging and defending. He took no unnecessary risks because he knew that the slightest mistake could cost him his life.

Fighting made noise and Nao had to hurry to get it over with quickly so he used more chakra than he had planned for his mission to speed up his body's movements. But what was surprising and even destabilizing was that the Daimyô was following his movements.

— "How do you do it ?!" Nao asked, not understanding how a mere civilian could stand up to him. Sure, his low amount of chakra prevented him from moving as fast as most ninja, but he was much faster than any civilian eye. But what the Hyûga and most of the world didn't know was that Suzuki and Hashuba had mastered the rudiments of chakra as well as some E-rank techniques. And that was why Hashuba was able to stand up to his assassin, and why he had always kept this secret well guarded.

— "Unlike you, I'm not stupid enough to answer you," Hashuba retorted.

— "Tch !" Nao snarled and charged the Daimyô again, and a new exchange of weapons took place in a shimmer of sparks and clinks.

— "Is this all Konoha has to send me ?" Hashuba provoked, regulating his breath.

As he did so, the Hyuga threw one of his kunai at the Daimyô who deflected the projectile with his sword in a fluid motion, but Nao took the opportunity to pass his guard and plant his second kunai right into the body of his target.

When Nao felt his weapon penetrate the flesh he had a small smile on his lips knowing that he had succeeded.

Except that the Daimyô suddenly began to vibrate for half a second before exploding in a cloud of smoke to finally reveal a cushion skewered on his weapon.

— "Kawarimi ?" Nao wondered in complete surprise.

Hashuba had just performed a substitution technique with one of the pillows behind Nao. In this more than advantageous position, the Daimyô cocked his sword in order to decapitate his attacker. In the mind of the Heiwa leader he was victorious : no one could dodge the blow he was delivering.

But unfortunately, his opponent was a Hyûga and he had 360° vision. And the Genjutsu put on the assassin's eyes prevented him from knowing this information. Nao twisted to dodge the blade before striking the Daimyô's wrist with his index and middle fingers, who immediately dropped his weapon with a cry of pain.

Nao immediately grabbed the sword with both hands before thrusting it straight into the torso of his target.

— "Urgh !" Hashuba groaned as he felt the edge of his blade pierce him through and through.

He gasped for breath and the pain grew even greater as the assassin pulled the sword from his body.

He could feel a warm liquid running down his chest and soaking his clothes. He felt his legs tremble before he fell to his knees. He barely had time to realize what had just happened before he collapsed to the ground and a pool of blood grew larger as the seconds passed.

Just as the Konoha ninja was about to run away, a person stepped in and entered the room.

Seeing this man in front of him, the assassin didn't know what to do and this immediately stopped his move.

— "Uzukage-dono ?!" Nao said, completely surprised to see this man he thought had disappeared.

— "So, in addition to not respecting its commitments and alliances, Konoha allows itself to assassinate the leaders of neighboring countries ?" Ashina retorted coldly as she saw Hashuba on the ground, a pool of blood around him. "One wonders if the person responsible for the last war was not Konoha itself !"

— "That's not true !" The Hyûga immediately refuted.

— "Oh no ?! Then what does it look like ?" Ashina demanded before tapping the ground with his foot.

As soon as his foot hit the floor, a multitude of Fûinjutsu seals emanated and spread throughout the room as the assassin looked on in horror.

— "What I see is an assassin ninja, who by his reactions, his chakra and his Dôjutsu can only come from Hi No Kuni ! And I see the Daimyô of Ta No Kuni behind you in his blood... if this is not a declaration of war, I don't know what is !"

— "It's not what you think !" Defended the ninja who didn't know what to say in this situation. He wanted to explain that they had arrived too late to save them from Uzushio's eradication, but what was the point ? He had just assassinated the leader of this huge city when all the people wanted was neutrality.

— "Not what I think ?! As far as I know, that man you just killed..." Ashina began to say as she slowly advanced towards the Byakugan possessor. "He only wanted one thing : peace and prosperity for his country ! Then what is the justification for Konoha No Sato to declare his assassination !"

As soon as he finished his sentence, Ashina released his killing intent and the assassin felt extremely bad for being in this situation. He didn't know what Ashina's Fûinjutsu seals were for, but it couldn't be pleasant.
