Chapter 2: Chapter 2 - ROAR

As soon as Alina rang the bell to alert the others hidden somewhere far to start fleeing, the walls started cracking from the pressure of the pressing monsters.

'They're here already? They sure are fast..and impatient.' Alina said to herself as she watched the monsters roaring and snarling at the base of the wall, climbing over themselves. They were like a rushing river. A river that spelt death. She looked into the distance for a certain black dragon but she couldn't find him. "He didn't die, did he?" She panicked and then suddenly felt emotionless like she was slowly loosing herself. Like she was slowly dying.

"Alina!" She heard someone yell her name. "Alina!! Get out of that place!" She heard again. Turning her head, she was met with an incoming giant monster arm with sharp claws swiping down at her head. Something heavy suddenly collided into her side making her fall down the wall, straight into the pressing horde of monsters below. 'It's over. Mum, Dad, everyone, I'll finally get to be with you all. I'm tired. I can't fight anymore.'

"Wake up, Alina!" A loud voice sounded through Alina's ears. The voice belonged to Astarot. "Astarot?" She called out. "Hang tight." The voice replied as she got flipped onto the back of a midnight-black dragon and with a powerful beat of his wings, the dragon flew over the monsters they were about crashing into, releasing a mixed flame of abyss-black and fiery red fire over them before flying back into the air, finally landing on another inner wall where the monsters weren't much yet. That wall was the last wall standing.

"What were you thinking?" Astarot, now in his human form scolded. "You could have died." He said with a slightly annoyed expression on his face. Even with the battle dirt and grime on his body, he was highly appealing to look at in his dark robes.

A bestial roar echoed through the midnight air. That was the giant monster that had almost killed Alina. It was searching for her and madly swinging at other monsters who were careful not to go near it.

"Why did you save me?" Alina gave an unexpected question. " I think I'm better off dead." She continued, with no expression on her face. She was just blank.

"My comrades. I could only watch as they died. As if that wasn't enough, they couldn't even have a burial. Instead, they were eaten ...by those monsters."

Astarot stayed still, listening to her. He was looking at the empire ruins. What was he looking at with so much concentration?

"I thought you died too." Alina quietly said. Astarot's attention on the empire ruins finally diverted to her. Then Alina started chuckling as she stood up, moving towards the wall's edge as she looked down at the monsters at the base. Within few minutes, she was sure they will become a rushing river. A dark rushing river of death.

"Dragons are the boss of all races. Dragons are apex predators. Dragons are indomitable." Alina listed as she chuckled again. "Was it all a lie? Why all this? Even if we were taken by surprise, we don't deserve this much deaths." She finally broke down in tears. "And those running? What hope is there for them? What's the use of the stupid bell since there's no escaping and we're all like lambs waiting to survive each night's slaughter under this dome! Even the dragon emperor is dead! If I survive tonight, I won't be fighting anymore. We're almost all gone anyway so let's just all die." She sobbed.

"No. We were warned." Astarot said. His voice was low. and almost inaudible like he was speaking to himself but Alina was able to catch on to his words.

"What?" Alina retorted.

"We were told." Astarot said again, turning to face Alina.

"But..by whom?" Alina asked, confused.

"The messengers." Astarot answered, his red eyes looking into Alina's golden ones. A look of realization followed by that of regret appeared on Alina's face as she seemed to recollect something.

"It doesn't matter now. Regret can't solve anything." Astarot started. "We're all gonna die anyway, I agree with you. But I also don't. The emperor didn't die for nothing. Those people fleeing, only need to make it to a certain point. I can't explain properly now, but know that there is hope. So now, stop acting like a ghost and avenge our ghosts..so we don't have more ghosts."

Alina's eyes stopped producing tears on realizing there was still hope. She turned to look at those fleeing faraway . Most were children and women with some teenagers. 'If no one else could die...If there was truly a way to escape...' Alina's fists clenched hard at the thought.

"Alina. Kill as many monsters as you can and make sure to stay alive." Astarot patted her head, looking into her golden eyes one more time before shifting into his dragon and flying back to battle. Alina watched him kill the giant monster that had been roaring non-stop while searching for her. She watched him roar loudly before diving into the horde below. That would look like suicide but it was Astarot. She had an unshakable faith in him.

Watching him tear the enemies apart, Alina's dead heart slowly came alive. It started beating wildly as revenge for the death of everyone close to her pulsed wildly through her blood.

"Alright, how about I start with you?."She set her sight on a giant monster that was slowly approaching the wall. These giant monsters would never announce their presence unless they want to. No one knew where they were unless an eye was kept on them.

Shifting into her dragon form, Alina pounced on it. She started with it's black eyes. A swift claw swipe with a thin line of golden light above it did more than turning it blind. Then she proceeded with dismembering it's swollen and horrible looking hands and feet, before finally clawing at the monsters chest as soon as it fell to the ground. The monsters dark sticky blood splattered on her body as it gave deafening roars but Alina didn't care as she carried on. "No heart?" She wondered for a split second at what she saw. The monster truly had no heart. Alina's brain was working at highspeed. "No problem then, let's go for the head." She said, dashing towards the monster's head like her life depended on it. Well, her life really depended on it. The monsters head was extremely hard so she only focused on a hitting a spot over and over again. Finally, she succeded. Wasting no time, she sent a burst of light blades into it and with a last roar, the monster layed motionless.

The area suddenly got devoid of the moonlight and when Alina looked up, she saw six giants similar to the one she had just brought down encircling her already. The look on their already horrible faces, was more horrible.

Alina smiled. If she would go down, then she would drag as many monster as possible, down with her. Lifting her head to the sky, she finally roared.
