Chapter 3: First encounter 2
Kiara took the guy to the hospital, At the ambulance, she occasionally glanced at his blood-bathed face that made it hard for her to know what he looked like. She felt a severe heartache as her gaze wandered over him, he was brutally beaten up. Some of the scars on his collar bone and jaws were still bleeding out while she could see his bruised elbows and slitted wrists that had blood dried upon them. As he was brought into the hospital a few doctors noticed him and came towards him. They examined him with their eyes and then looked up at Kiara. "Are you the guardian?" one of them asked.
Kiara shook her head. "No, I found him in this state so I brought him here," she replied in a small voice.
"Any ID on him?" He asked. "Or a cell phone with which his guardians can be called?"
"I didn't check that." Kiara rubbed her hands nervously. "But is that really necessary right now? Can't you just treat him and we can ask him when he wakes up?" Kiara added in a rather agitated tone.
"I am sorry but this is a police case, We can't do anything unless the identity is confirmed or someone claims him." He retreated without any other word.
"But! Can't you see that he needs immediate medical attention?" Kiara slowly started to lose her cool. At this, the doctor replied in the previous calm tone. "As I said, it's a police case and we can't take any action until a guardian claims him."
Kiara closed her eyes and breathed in deeply. " Okay! I will be the Guardian, Just treat him already." She spoke in a tired voice.
The doctor who was about to leave turned around and looked at her. "You should know that as a guardian you will be fully responsible for everything that happens from here onwards." HE warned her.
"I know, Just give me the form and I will fill it in. " Kiara tossed her bag to her back and stood up in determination.
After filling out the forms and paying the bills The guy was taken in for the treatment. While Kiara sat by the operating room with a dizzy head.
After who knows how long the operating room's door opened and a doctor walked out followed by two nurses. He looked around to find Kiara to tell her about the condition of the patient but found her fast asleep on the bench. He stepped in closer to her and cleared his throat loudly.
"Ahm!"
The sound made Kiara jolt up and stood up in an alert manner. She looked around and said in haste. "I wasn't sleeping!"
"It seems like you were," Replied the doctor when he saw her unfocused eyes making Kiara blink aimlessly a few times before adjusting her gaze on him.
"Your patient has been treated but he is not yet awake. He will be under surveillance for the next twelve hours. We will shift him to the room."
"So do I have to stay here until he wakes up?" Kiara asked in a small voice.
"Well you sure do," He replied and left without another word. Kiara sat back in her seat and looked down at her hands where she had small red splatters of blood from the injury of the guy. She bit her lip and lifted her hand to rub her eyes so that the sleep in them would somehow vanish. "How am I going to get a day off?" She Thought of work and just when her hand reached her nose it accidentally rubbed against the soft cartilage and it gave out a sharp pain. And slowly she felt blood trickle out of it.
"Aah!" She winced in pain. "I thought it wasn't broken." She muttered to herself as she rubbed against her nose to stop the blood and just then it hit her. She looked at the blood on her hand and gave a sinister smile. Kiara took out her phone and snapped a picture of herself with a bleeding nose. She sent it to her manager with a text that went like this.
"I went to the hospital and they said I might have broken the bone in my nose and for that, I have to be at the hospital. Can I skip work tomorrow?" Fingers crossed she glanced back at her phone screen before putting it back in her bag. She then went into the room where he was transferred to.
She was just a step into the room when she first lay an eye on him. His face was no longer bathed in blood, and she stood there paused in her steps looking at him dumbfoundedly. Something stirred in her chest. It wasn't a familiar feeling. Was it her heart that had started to waver or was her eyes suddenly seeing things all in all a weird feeling wrapped around her making her feel warm and at the same time her stomach felt hollow?
"What is this? Why am I feeling like this?" She placed her hands over her cheeks to see if she was okay. "Did I get sick?" She glanced back at the unconscious guy that made the feeling in her chest go more severe.
While she was still trying to find a feasible answer for her state the door behind her opened and a nurse poked her head. Kiara looked around to see who it was.
"Miss, You need to come out for a second."She asked Kiara.
Kiara glanced back at the guy one last time before she shook her head to get the weird feeling out of her head.
Outside the room, two men in a formal police uniform stood with their hands clasped behind their back. The nurse told them that Kiara was the one who had brought the guy to the hospital.
"Miss, Could you please show us your ID?" He asked which Kiara pulled out her wallet and gave HEr Id to the police. One of them looked down at the CArd while the other asked questions. "Would you please be kind enough to tell us what you saw?" HE asked.
Kiara nodded.
"I was on my way home when a car crossed me at high speed." She slowly narrated the whole story and handed over the clip that she had recorded of the scene. After a few long minutes, the Police thanked her and left to investigate the case further.
