Chapter 1: The Question (1)

The day was just starting but there was already chaos in the world. A young man yelped for help as a pair of strong arms reached out from the alley that he was passing and pulled him into the recesses of the shadows.

The pair of arms pushed him firmly but not forcefully against the wall. The young man's first instinct was to escape but as he tried to turn and run away, the muscular and toned arm flew past his eyes before slamming into the wall.

His exit was blocked and the young man was cornered.

He felt the other arm grab his shoulders and twist him around to face his assailant. Jun Yang looked into the eyes of his assailant that was shining as black as onyx. For that brief moment, he saw himself reflected in it and he looked fidgety and insecure, a look that did not occur often and one that he did not appreciate on himself.

Moments later, Jun Yang started to catch on. Familiarity started to dawn. That pair of eyes which seemed to possess wisdom beyond his years, the tussled hair that made a return to fashion these days, the easy smile that disarmed the sense of alarm and fear in Jun Yang's heart, and finally the school uniform that was not tucked into his pants, all these were much too familiar to Jun Yang.

The name fell out of his lips subconsciously, "Feng Qi, why…"

The young man who looked not much older than his captive, leaned in closer to Jun Yang with the smile still hanging on his face.

Jun Yang was the model student at Xing Ming Academy, where the two boys attended classes. However, even though they shared the same school and even the same class, the two's lives could not have been more worlds apart.

Jun Yang was the top scorer and the favorite of the teachers at school. He had perfect attendance and had flying colors in practically all of the classes that he attended. He came from a prestigious family so the young man carried himself with decorous mannerism of a distinguished young master that was instilled in him since he was a wee babe.

A smile on him was rare as if the weight of the responsibility he carried on his shoulders prevented his lips from turning upwards. He had a stern and serious outlook on things.

Everything had to be just perfect and this extended to his appearance. Jun Yang would never be caught with even one hair falling out of place or a crease on his uniform.

He did not work out as vigorously as his parents would like him to, but he exercised enough to make sure that he had a physical image that was presentable to others. Objectively speaking, Jun Yang could be called handsome but there was something boyish about his charm. This might be due to the softness of his facial features or the baby fat that he had been trying but unable to shed.

Because of all these, Jun Yang was the target of affection of his female peers and even some of the female staff.

Feng Qi, who was physically taller than Jun Yang, was the complete opposite. He was the last at his class and made no efforts to even try to change that fact. It felt like he had settled into that role and was comfortable being the weakest link of the class, at least in terms of academic score.

This was only exacerbated by the fact that the young man had the habit of skipping classes. Most of his classmates would have thought he was not even part of the class considering the amount of time he had missed it.

He was a constant headache for the teachers at the school. They wished for him to treat his studies more seriously but for that, they had to grab hold of him first and even if they did, it was another matter completely if he would listen to their advice.

Feng Qi was not as wealthy as Jun Yang but he had his personal style. The style was similar to his personality, carefree and loose. He was the type to wear the same pair of jeans for a whole week simply because they were not dirty. He was easy-going and had a lazy charm about him.

Feng Qi had a harder life compared to Jun Yang. This was observable from the young man's appearance. Feng Qi was rugged and there was an edge to his presence. He had high cheekbones and sharp jaws, worn down by hardships and hard work.

Theoretically speaking, their lives should have been stars passing each other in the sky, never meeting but for some reasons, their paths crossed often.

As Feng Qi leaned closer into Jun Yang, the latter involuntarily moved backwards into the wall, he took a big swallow, taking the words down into his stomach. Jun Yang's racing heartbeat covered the sound from their surrounding as it overwhelmed his sense of hearing.

He could feel the color threatening to surface on his cheeks as Feng Qi's fiery gaze bored into his eyes. Jun Yang honestly did not know what was happening, this was something that he had not experienced in his life before. He always had control over every moment in his life but trapped by his classmate in the alley, the physical proximity between them so close, he was a flustered mess. The way his heart was racing prevented him from making any sound decision.

His hands wandered to his side and they grabbed hold of his school bag that was slung over his shoulders. As if operating on automation, Jun Yang grabbed the bag and placed it between them to act as a shield.

Feng Qi was not deterred, if anything, he only moved in faster. His body pressed against Jun Yang's bag and the latter could feel the young man's slim and toned stomach through the fabric of his uniform.

'Why am I noticing details like this?' Jun Yang thought to himself. Embarrassment swept the young man who almost never lost his footing in life. Feng Qi's eyes were still looking at him. Jun Yang could have sworn the man could read his thought because he saw the tilt of Feng Qi's lips moving upwards.

Out of sheer embarrassment, Jun Yang turned his head to the side, avoiding Feng Qi's eyes.

Jun Yang did not know what to think, many thoughts were going through his mind. Suddenly, he felt Feng Qi's breath on his ear and it sent a tickle from the top of his head to the bottom of his toe. If he was not pressed against the wall, Jun Yang would have sworn he would drop to the ground because his legs were going weak.

Then, Jun Yang heard the man say in his gruffy voice, "Will you be my boyfriend?"
