Chapter 23: Days Later

Julius lay asleep on the floor of his office breathing calmly in the silence. His room was filled with blood stained glasses, and crumbled up cigars that laid scattered around him. A knock at his door made him jump out of his skin as he sat up rubbing his forehead as he looked to his door. "Who is it?" he asked in a dry tone as he slowly got up out of the floor and stretched in place.

"Its Drevan!" The familiar voice called out from the other side of the door. "May I come in?" Looking around at the mess that was his office, that wasn't seeming like it was such a good idea. Making one last stretch Julius made his way out of his office and closing the door behind him as he quickly glanced to Drevan.

"Something the matter Drevan?" Julius asked once he was out of his room. Julius could see why he was one of the vampires chosen to be around Angelica all the time, based off of the talks he has had with the young vampire.

"Well Angelica needs someone to talk to and most of the women in your family are freaking terrifying. How have you not been castrated by them yet?" Dreven asked in bewilderment as he rubbed the back of his head his mind obviously racing. Turning Julius walked down the hall to the railing where he glanced down and saw more walking about the manor than usual.

"Simply because I have a high regard for respect. It is very useful when I want to keep my genitalia. And especially useful in not pissing them off. Take those words to heart before being a smart mouth around them." Julius responded to the vampire before letting out a tired breath as he gently rubbed his chest where he had most recently been staked. The dull pain still aching through his body like a reminder to his weakness. A reminder that he hated having.

"Your injuries still aggravating you Julius?" Drevan asked glancing at him with a worried look written all over his face. It was a nice change of pace having vampires who actually had emotions rather than the dull and planning ones that he usually resided with. He had to learn quick, and very quick at that in order to survive as long as he had around them. And that wasn't long compared to his mother and those on his council.

"Still aches but it should be gone soon. Gonna take more than pain to put me down." Julius smiled to Drevan as he leaned against the railing. "And Angelica...I have been giving her some time to grieve over her mother's death.."

Drevan placed a gentle hand on his shoulder before he let out a saddened sigh. "It is a hard situation..for everyone involved..I miss Jadamine very much..she was like a mother to me and most of the vampires in our family..now we have to figure out what we are doing..now that our home is gone. And our leader along with it. It is nice of you and your family to give us a place to stay in this time." He said after a long while as he looked down at the vampires who were walking around the manor. "I hope we aren't a nuisance."

"You aren't..trust me. You and your family are welcome in my home. They know better than to challenge that." Julius confirmed as he turned his gaze down the hall towards his room. "maybe I should talk to her"

"You should. She would appreciate it." Drevan hummed in a low tone. "I just hope she will get over her mothers death quickly..she can't just live closed up in a room for the rest of her life.."

"Maybe I can talk some sense into her..but I lost my family so long ago that...I don't even remember feeling the grief when they died" Julius said as he straightened out patting Drevan on the back gently. "But I shall see what I can do."

"I wish you the best of luck" Drevan said as Julius walked away down the hall towards his room, he slowed his approach when the audible sound of crying could clearly be heard from the other side. Pausing for a moment he stopped right before the door hovering his hand above the door. Guilt tore through him even more than it had been in the last few days. How could he have been so careless?

Slowly knocking on the door, the loud sobbing stopped abruptly at the sound of the knock. Taking a deep breath Julius put his thoughts together so he didn't make things any worse. "Angelica. It's me..Julius, can I please come in?" He asked in a loud enough tone to be heard through the door. A long silence played out as he stood there awkwardly before he heard a lock turn from the other side and the door slowly opened to reveal a pair of red eyes. Red eyes that were full of pain and grief as they stared up at him.

Looking to the side not knowing what to do or say, Julius collected his thoughts even more before looking at Angelica. "Can I please come in Angelica?" He repeated himself in a soft tone as she nodded slowly opening the door just wide enough for him to squeeze through. Entering his room for the first time in days he looked around and say that it was still as neat as he left it. And oddly enough, a whole lot more cleaner than he had left it.

Glancing at Angelica. Julius raised a curious eyebrow at her. "Did..did you do this?" He asked as he looked her up and down. She was dressed in a thin red nightgown that flowed down to her knees and seemed to be a bit big on her.

"Y-yeah I did" Angelica spoke softly her voice cracking some. It was becoming more and more clear just how much she had been crying, and it stabbed him in the heart as much as it would have a stake.

"I am so very sorry for your loss Angelica" Julius breathed out before pulling her into a long and tight hug taking in her scent as he held her body close to his as the sound of muffled sobbing floated into his ears as she embraced him tightly. The two standing there in the middle of the dark room
