Chapter 60: Quidditch is deadly!

// THIS IS AN OLD CHAPTER. THE NEW CHAPTERS ARE IN VOLUME 2. YOU CAN READ THESE CHAPTERS IF YOU WANT SOME INSIGHT ON WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN LATER BUT SOME EVENTS CAN BE DIFFERENT BETWEEN THE OLD AND NEW CHAPTERS.

Today is the first Quidditch match of the season that pits us against Gryffindor. And the least that can be said is that the description of events in the films is far from the truth. I don't understand how we couldn't postpone the game with such weather, it's raining so much that my hands can't get a good grasp on my broom.

We already had a bad surprise when we discovered that the whole Gryffindor team had just obtained firebolts, generously offered by the Potters, who left us, with our Nimbus 2001, far behind them but now the lightnings are falling near the ground. The only advantage I have is that Harry's glasses are too wet for him to see clearly, so I'm the only one chasing the Snitch for now.

But that fucking thing is slippery, I already had it twice between my fingers while it managed to escape. My hand is less than ten centimeters away when a Gryffindor beater gives me a blatching, a common Quidditch fault, in order to make me fall off my broom, I manage to catch myself with one hand on my broom, but the rest of my body hangs in the air about twenty meters from the ground.

Draco, who has kept his position as a beater this year, comes to help me get back on my broom, who was too slippery for me to do it alone, while Madam Hooch whistles a penalty.

"Since when did Gryffindor's style of play is to make faults on purpose, I thought we had Marcus for that?" Even Draco is surprised by the behavior of the Gryffindors players.

"I don't know, but they clearly wanted to prevent me from catching the snitch."

The penalty allowed us to score ten additional points, bringing the score to 100-100. Things are not looking good; Gryffindor has chosen a bad day to lose their morality in such weather. The only positive side of this story is that I can't hear the other houses booing us anymore.

Just after the penalty the match resumes, it takes me two good minutes to find the snitch in this storm, Harry is already on it and flies two meters behind it. The little golden ball tries everything it can to lose us until it starts to gain altitude. Harry chases him higher and higher as I lag behind the speed of the firebolt.

That's when the dementors came, I can't count them, but their black cloaks are everywhere between the clouds. I don't hear words this time, but I feel an unbearable feeling of hunger. The Beast begins to stir fiercely in my mind seeking a prey to shred to satisfy its appetite.

They head straight for the stadium without caring about Potter until they see me.

/ * Herald ... hungry * /

My blood freezes in my veins and I turn my broom around completely, heading straight for the stadium floor. I look back to see a horde of black specters chasing me as I draw closer to the ground. Several cries of horror are heard in the stands. If only I could use a patronus, but my activities as a dark mage will never allow me to do so. While I am still fifteen meter above the ground, the voice of the Dementors becomes unbearable as my vision begins to blur. I black out as I feel a hand resting on my shoulder.

When I wake up, I'm back in the infirmary. What a shame, I manage to not find myself there for two years and now I have the impression of being subscribed to the hospital service of Hogwarts.

As I lift my head, I see Dumbledore sitting on the corner of my bed.

"Hello Sean, you scared us when we saw you rush towards the stadium chased by dementors and I don't even mention your fall. What do you remember exactly?"

"Well, we were chasing the snitch with Harry when suddenly I felt an oppressive hunger. Then soon after I saw a horde of dementors rushing towards the stadium. One of them noticed me and said the word 'hungry'. I rushed towards the stadium and that's all I remember. "

"Fascinating. When you were about ten meters from the ground a dementor caught up with you but what is the strangest is that when you fell from your broom the dementors dropped you safely on the ground. "

"What?! But why?"

"This is the question that is on everyone's lips. The ministry has decided to ask one of my friends, Newt Scamander, to leave his retirement so that he can come and examine you. In the meantime, the dementors are ordered to not get close to the castle grounds and if what you're telling me is true it is a negligence from the ministry that led to this disaster. The person who was in charge of feeding the dementors didn't do their job. "

"You will keep them? "

"They are a necessary evil in these troubled times." Yes of course when it's Harry, Dumbledore gets furious .But when it's another student, it's a necessary evil, what a two-tiered sense of justice.
