Chapter 1: 1. HER

I can wipe the tears in my eyes but I can't wipe away pain in my heart.

"Hey you, watch where you're g..." oomph I bumped into something hard right when that person warning me shouted at me to watch where I was going.

I didn't have time to apologize as warm coffee soaked through my grey woolly cardigan and pooled at my feet together with the cup.

I sighed internally as I met the stare of the person into whom I bumped. Hazel eyes on a dark caramel skin and black hair that looked like it had been ruffled at least a hundred times. He had a chiseled jawline and bulging muscles that still appeared under a black three piece Armani suit.

"Take a picture it will last longer" the deep husky voice of the stranger snapped me out of my reverie . My cheeks became warmer at his comment and I averted my eyes to the space between us to assess the coffee damage.

"Miss I apologize for this encounter however since you were the one that wasn't paying attention to where you were going you will be paying for the coffee spilled together with my now ruined suit ."

My mouth fell open at this mans audacity to make me pay for his coffee . Clearly bumping into someone wasn't a one person job and besides he could've side stepped me.

"You know you're terrible at inside voices" I did not just say that out loud??!

"Yes that too" I literally face palmed myself at my newly found embarrassment that seemed to be his source of entertainment.

I cleared my throat to get his attention back to me " sir , I'm really sorry about that but even if I wanted to I can't pay for your coffee and the suit. Please try to understand me" I barely had enough resources for Sebastian and I.

Looking around , the sunset cast its warm magenta hues on the surrounding which did not even make an effort to dampen my mood as it usually did.

He continued to glare at me which sent shivers down my spine. I decided to keep quiet since it seemed that he was plotting my murder in his head.

"Look here miss I know your type and I know you want to play that innocent card and I'm not going to let you . I bet you do that all the time to many people. Always wanting free things ." He was now in my face shouting all these accusations.

My eyes glistened with unshed tears with how he was talking to me. He barely even knew me. My shoulders dropped at the thought that I could not even pay back this man such that he would leave me alone.

"I'm really sorry that I can not pay you back sir" I did not meet his eyes as I said this, feeling the fight leave my body.

"If you will not pay me back for the damage caused then you might as well work for me.

I will see you on Monday 7:00 am at Maxwell Corp as my new personal assistant. I do not appreciate tardiness. He said casually and walked away faster than humanly possible without even so much of a glance behind .

I shook my head as I walked into the coffee shop and sat at the usual spot, a small table by the corner and patiently waited for Kate. My mind was over the place. I was so sure I did not have qualifications to work as a personal assistant. I was only good with figures.

A warm hand on my shoulder brought me back to the reality. I turned around to meet Kate's smile. She was only a year older than me and literally my only friend. She was quite stunning with dark curly hair and chocolate brown skin and a body to die for. I wish I was as tall as her.

"Hey are you okay , you've been staring into space for five minutes. Talk to me." She said as she sat in the seat across from me.

" I just bumped into this guy outside an..." I stop as I noticed her weird excited face that she makes when the topic of men is brought up by me.

" No stop it is not like that. " she just raised an eyebrow at me but at least stopped looking at me weirdly. " Anyways I bumped into him and he wanted me to pay for the damages coffee as well as his suit which was an Armani. He literally accused me of being a free loader and then demanded I worked for him starting Monday "

"Oh wow, was he hot? She just gaped at me .

"Seriously in all that I've said is that the only thing you're going to ask?"I was really frustrated by everything at this point.

She put her hand over mine and held both of them in her hands." Listen you've wanted this for you and Seb all this time, are you going to let it all go to waste because of what he assumed about you? No. You will work even more to prove to him what you are. But honestly was he hot?" She finished laughing slightly.

" yes, yes he was hot . Now does that make you happy??. Anyways I'm going to work as his personal assistant and I don't even know where that company is. Something Maxwell.

"Did you say Maxwell, like the Maxwell Corp. oh my goodness. I have to dress you up . I can't believe this . " she immediately exclaimed standing up and attracting unwanted attention from other customers.

I just stood up as well and pulled out a mumbling Kate out of the door and on our way to our apartment complex. I flicked her forehead to bring her back to the normal world.

I was still so worried about how I was going to work that job that I did not realize that we had reached our home. It was a small three bedroom appartement but was homey and really simple for the three of us.

Kate unlocked the door and as soon as it was unlocked, Sebastian rushed and hugged my legs tightly. I bent down to pick him up and peppered his face with kisses.

"Mommy I missed you. " my son melted my heart every single time he said that and buried his face in the crook of my neck so that I would not see his pink cheeks.

"No kiss for aunt K? " Kate playfully scoffed. He immediately jumped out of my hold and into Kate's and also nuzzled his face in her neck.

He is absolutely adorable and mature for his age.

I faced him lightly pinching his chubby cheeks. "Guess what baby, Mummy has a job now and she'll be buying you all these cool toys and ...." I built his curiosity by intentionally keeping quiet.

"And what mummy I want to know tell me tell me tell me" he was literally bouncing up and down in Kates arms.

"And you'll now be enrolled in public school. You won't have to be studying from home anymore. " that was literally the first plan I had for whenever I found a job and now that I had I could action it and educate my baby who would be turning five in three months since it was May and his birthday was in August.

I would do anything to always keep that happiness on his face since his happiness was my happiness.

The rest of the weekend went by in a blur and soon I was to start work.
