Chapter 14: Infiltration or Co-operation?
"Interesting, you really can speak the human language…" The old man said from his chair, the strange creature got up and walked to the bars of the cage as he continued to stare at the man.
…
Jack tried to use his claws to strike the bars of the cage but all he felt was pain course through his body as the vibrations rebounded.

Jack laughed bitterly seeing this, it seemed he'd be trapped for some time at this rate, 'Would the system really create an inescapable cage?' He wondered as he looked around.
He'd tried to analysis the old man and all he'd seen was a row of question marks – it was clear the old man was far above his level, in fact, Jack felt that the old man was too strong, why would such a strong enemy appear the moment they start the game?
He'd only recently gathered the courage to log back into the game – he'd thought his character would reappear in the sky and he'd be able to escape but apparently, that wasn't the case.
"So what are you?" The old man questioned him, Jack simply stared back blankly with a smile on his face – his plan had been to irritate the old man into killing him but he was beginning to feel hesitant seeing the calm smile on the mans' face.
They stared at each other for several minutes and but the mans' expression didn't change once, he continued to blink and that was it – Jack felt as if he was looking at a statue.
"A Demon." He said finally after several minutes, he'd planned to stay silent longer but the thought had suddenly gone through his head 'What if the NPC's only programmed to respond to the players' response?'
If that was the case he could sit here forever and never escape because he'd been too stubborn to answer a simple question.
The NPC seemed to think for a second, taking this time Jack used the time to look over his status menu, he'd neglected to look at it as the World-event has suddenly appeared the moment he'd logged in.
[Name: ???]
[Race: Bae'ro]

[Level 1]
[Class: None]
'Do I have to name myself when playing or something?' He thought seeing the question marks beside his name.

'A demon huh?' The old man thought to himself – this was his first time hearing of such a race, looking at the 'demon' he had in a cage he couldn't help but admire how built for killing they were – it was impressive, to say the least.
"Do you have a name?" He questioned, if they were intelligent it was possible that they had names too was it not?
…
Jack nodded, "Satan, my name's Satan." He said jokingly, chuckling to himself at the bad joke he'd just made.
[Name Set!]
[Name: Satan]
Jack was shocked looking at this, he'd only tried it as a joke why would a game developer make it so this was the way names were set?
"Satan huh?" Jack looked at the NPC who seemed to be deep in thought again, it really was annoying that he had to wait for the NPC to 'think' was it really that hard? 'You're a piece of code! Why can't you think at the speed a computer processes?!' He couldn't help but shout in his mind.
All he wanted to do was get out of here, was that so hard? But no, he had to stay here and answer the questions of this old man – it wasn't even a quest? What type of game was this?
The old man continued to ask Jack questions until the early light of dawn turned to dusk, Jack was truly exhausted by the end of all this – all he wanted was to get this over with and start playing the game already.
Jack had answered every question the old man could think of, from how sharp his claws were to the name of his race – it was an in-depth review of his entire body, Jack felt like nothing was a secret in the eyes of this man.
He'd even tried lying once only for the old man to glare at him, Jack had quickly corrected himself and said it was a mistake.
"Finally, work with me." The old man said, looking Jack in the eyes as he said it.
Jack was shocked, 'is this the opportunity I've been waiting for? A unique quest?' He was excited at the prospect of being the first to discover a hidden quest, what type of rewards would there be for such an achievement?
[You have received a Quest!]
[Mission: Infiltrate the human empire and gain their trust!]
[Mission Reward: Hidden Class + ???]
"Yes!" Jack almost screamed, forgetting where he was, embarrassed he rubbed his head and said with a slightly lower voice, "Yes, I'll work with you."
The old man nodded satisfied, "Good! Great! That'll make my research so much easier." He said with a grin on his face, Jack had a bad premonition seeing this – the old man's face resembled the faces of his old bosses when they had wanted him to work overtime with no pay.
Of course, no matter how creative his imagination was he had no way of knowing that he'd just signed himself up for an experience worse than hell – a decision he'd soon come to regret.
He had no way of knowing, however, that if he had refused the old man was planning to simply kill him and that would be that, he would've respawned and he would never have had to deal with the old man ever again.
Of course, there's no potion for regret in the world or else maybe things would've turned out differently to how they did…
