Chapter 2: Panic

His last words hung in the air as the broadcast ended and the T.V. went back to the original broadcasting channels. Simultaneously, my phone started functioning properly.

Eager to gauge my parents reactions, I glared towards their direction. Both already fixated on me. My parents were clearly shocked, reasonably so, as my birth year, 2004, was one of the three mentioned.

Although we were staring into each other we sat there in silence for a while before my mother decided to be the first to speak up.

"What an awful prank." She remarked, in an attempt to lighten the mood.

"Yeah, I mean it was probably hacker group that thought they were being funny, I mean 'transported to another world'—as if that is even possible." I added, though for some reason I was unsure of my own words. Everything was just too coincidental to dismiss as a mere prank.

"Anyways, thank you for the breakfast. And the power's back on, I'm gonna head in my room for a bit. Don't think about the video too much; it's just a prank after all. The news channel or government will probably release a statement soon, confirming that it's a prank." I reassured, yet I knew I would not even heed my own advice.

Entering my room, I quickly hopped onto my laptop in an attempt to find answers and evidence that the video was from some hacker. Instead, I discovered through Twitcher that the video was shared worldwide as many peopled described the exact same predicament that filled us with fear.

After around an hour or so of surfing the web, I had found no proof of the video being a prank.

*Knock Knock*

"Yes?" I responded, quickly turned around looking at the door.

My mother creaked it open and stuck her head through. "Atlas honey, come into the living room really quickly." She said to me without making eye contact.

I quickly got up and followed her into the living room. Arriving at the living room I found my father with a somber expression. Without a word he nodded towards the T.V., as he pressed on the replay button.

'The video that was broadcasted earlier at 11:00 GMT for us in the U.K. was broadcasted across all devices with a screen, in every country in the world, something that should has been deemed impossible to do as a hacker, until now. It is currently being reviewed by all government organizations throughout the globe to try and trace the perpetrators. However the hackers have not been able to be traced thus far. Nevertheless, do not panic yet, every country is coming together to verify the legitimacy of the contents in the broadcast and catch these terrorizers before they can cause more panic. Good-day and Happy New Year.'

"Do you think what that man said is true?" My mother spoke up instantly, her voice tense, as the man finished his speech.

"..."

"Do you really think it's possible for you to be transported into another world. Logically, it shouldn't right? Right? But for some reason my chest hurts every time I think about it, and fear overwhelms me." My mother exclaimed, as her gaze filled with sadness and anxiety.

My dad who hasn't said a word yet attempted to calm her down with a hug by reassuring her, "It's okay, I'm sure it's just a silly prank don't worry." He said to her as he kissed her in the forehead. However, his worried glance told me all I needed to know.

"Either way, Lily should hear none of this, I don't want to make her worried." I quickly said trying to divert conversation from its sorrow turn.

"Did you say my name Atlas?"

Quickly turning around, I found Lily rubbing her eyes, still in her pajamas. Luckily, I think she only heard the latter part of the conversation and was still unaware of the situation.

"Lily!" I quickly ran up to her and gave her a large hug, mindful of her complaints.

"Gah, you're squeezing too hard Atlas." She wined as I picked her up in the air.

Putting her down, she gave my parents a good morning hug and ran along to the bathroom to wash up.

My parents and I shared a glance for a second before I returned to my room. I wasn't sure what to make of the situation. I desperately wished that the message was fake—we're talking about teleportation here, to another planet nonetheless.

I decided I would go back to sleep for a little bit and hopefully when I wake up I'll learn that this whole think was a bad prank by some hacker group.

I had decided to go back to sleep, hoping that when I awake, I would discover that this whole ordeal was some silly ruse a hacker group had thought up to cause panic.
