Chapter 1: Chapter 1 The games Begin

"Wake up, young one wake up" a voice was sounding out sounding feminine with a slight growl. "I said WAKE UP YOU LOUSY BASTARD" with this a series of hits were added to help the person sleeping on her floor to wake up.

"WHAT DO YOU WANT" Romulus woke up with a start hell he was waking up when the person was gently telling him to wake up, so he was understandably mad when receiving hits for something he was going to do anyway. When he stood up what he saw was ten things waving around while the body they are attached to was covered in shadows.

With a huff, the person in front of him was apparently annoyed that her fun back talked. "First off little being, you are dead" With this, the darkness that was behind her rushed forward to keep his mouth shut.

"This will go a lot faster if you shut up and listen human" the same growl was present, but it was very feminine there was no doubt in Romulus mind.

"You died in the last battle with those cute little creatures you call frogs. How that happened when they are considered the weakest of the monster races is beyond me the dangerous part of them is their blood, and that can be easily washed away with water or can be absorbed with a towel or even with dirt seriously.

You lot thought to counter-act poison with poison what stupidity was your so-called medics thinking of. In all my many thousands of years of living and observing your people, I must say the lack of intelligence that was performed is mind-boggling stupid even..."

This rant went on for what felt like years to Romulus as the woman in front of him would not run out of breath about the stupidity of his race and the extolling the virtues of her people and her intellect. It seriously went on way too long, but a mystical pressure was keeping his mouth shut against his will.

Eventually, the being stopped talking and moved what could be a paw for all he knew to her face to scratch her cheek? Muzzle? In what could be embarrassment.

"My apologies when I see something stupid on such a scale I tend to rant I do apologize for something so improper of me. Let me introduce myself. I am Grera Goddess of Rebirth and Fertility." With this, she removed the shadows that covered her and stepped adequately into the light.

The ten objects that were behind her were tails each one with a different color coating the tails. There was even a few that looked like they were entirely made of fire, water, earth, and what I can assume to be darkness. But the person that the tails were connected to was what caught his attention as well frustrated him to no end she was a beastkin what species he did not know there were so many of them that it was hard to keep track of.

She had two triangler ears on top of her head instead of around her head. Her face was elongated into the face of a fox her eyes was of deep ocean blue the fur seemed to change color tending to the colors of her tails continually shifting between them her hands if you could call them that were really paws with electricity dancing between the claws that were extended. Then suddenly he heard a faint rumble coming from the woman before him when he looked up he saw her face pulled back in anger showing a row of sharp canines.

"Are you done inspecting me mortal or have you never seen a kitsune before? Wait don't answer that you haven't as my species currently has their own slight issues at home. I am however hoping you, and I can come to a beneficial deal for both of us."

What was this creature talking about and what was this about me being dead what is a Kitsune are they fox-like animals or dog like? More importantly WHAT IS GOING ON.

"I have three questions can you answer them please my lady" With this statement he did a bow never hurts to be respectful to a woman after all.

"My first is that you said I died. What do you mean by this?" Romulus stated

She, however, replied with a sniff and a quick muttering of how much more is there to explain about death.

'What is so hard about understanding that you are dead you are not with your friends this is most certainly not a dream, your heart is not beating, that you are not breathing, in fact, you are just a skeleton, and you think that would happen if you were alive? Do you think that would be in a dream if you are in control."

With her assertion of me being dead, I quickly checked myself, and sure enough, the screaming and yelling came about because when I lifted my hand instead of my old scar covered hand and arm that I have expected was actually white with bone coverings, in fact, my entire arm was bone.

He did a quick once over of his body and yup his little member was gone this somehow didn't discomfort him as much as it should have. When he looked at the being in front of him, all he saw the slight movement of the shoulders helping to indicate her laughter.

Soon it was too much, and she was rolling on the ground pounding the floor over something that he didn't know what was so funny to make her roll and cry as well.

"Well, it has been a few hundred years since the last time I laughed that hard, and this time it was from a male skeleton thinking that he still had his penis now that was funny," she said with a few more chuckles.

'I will give this for free we are communicating via your soul residue while it is currently waiting in line for a new body to be well made to hold your specific soul. Each soul needs a chassis, and the blood can be said to be the acting glue that holds and binds the two together. That is why when enough blood is gone or lost the soul just leaves the vessel and the body only becomes an empty husk of its former self. Now that this is explained to you a simple mortal I know that blew your mind so please ask the other two questions that you so rudely assumed I would answer."

I was speechless this did not explain how I died, but the process so did I die from blood loss that doesn't seem to be the issue was it the poison he does remember that, but for some reason, he was feeling oddly distant to his old life.

For several minutes Romulus stood still thinking and noticing several changes in his mind it seemed like his life was getting hazier and more distant the more he tried to remember it.

"My next question Grara is what... is it you want from me," Romulus asked the second most valid question to him there is while there were some more pressing questions none were as important to him as this.

After all, if a goddess came to you, first what was it that made you so special to be even recognized at all especially from a goddess you have no idea that even existed.

"That's easy to answer you see as mentioned before my people are in a bit of a situation that I might have indirectly you understand between the god of fate and myself well hehehehe. It's a funny story really we wanted to take a few years off to relax from our stressful jobs, and he was a gorgeous male specimen, and I hadn't had a man in so long, so those few years turned out to be a hundred years.

When we returned, we found our races to be enslaved to another species; this well caused us to be embarrassed, and we need someone to help us out of this pickle of a problem. Now I know you want to know why I can't involve myself well there are laws, rules, and specific situations that must be met before I can even descend into the mortal realms for someone as strong as me this is a necessity. As the sheer power of my decent can destroy a few kingdoms. The only reason why you aren't killed, souls are simply indestructible even to omnipotent gods such as me." She said this with such pride that it boggled my mind and with such casual arrogance that showed that she fully believed in it.

But she answered my question in a roundabout way. I was a convenient person whom she just randomly picked out from the masses of souls that were around me that I only now recognized they were floating orbs and occasionally an arm would descend made of bone and tossed them into a cauldron that glowed green when she followed my eyes to the giant container she said.

"The Cauldron of memories is an interesting relic of the past and a very, very powerful relic that only the judges of the dead can use. It is a reasonably harmless device; its primary purpose is to remove any lingering memories a soul has on them.

But if the soul has done some of the most heinous deeds, it will burn them till only the most basic soul is there which it will then be molded into a shape to fit the soul's sin. This is how beasts and monsters are created while the soul is indestructible that doesn't mean it can't be changed that would best fit the previous owner.

This, however, isn't always the case if the soul was pure and just throughout multiple lives, they are rewarded for the good deeds they have done. Like those souls." With this Grara pointed to a series of souls that had a golden hue coming from the middle it was at that time another bone this time covered in runes came down and grabbed the souls and gently placed them into the cauldron.

It didn't take long that a loud roar was heard throughout the realm and a series of moans from the various souls around us were heard following it.

"Ah, a dragonling is going to be born soon. That one had to have a soul who enjoys challenges and the pride and arrogance to match it that was a relatively rare thing to see you should be proud to witness such a creation of a marvelous creature." She looked excited to witness this birth as well, so it had to be true but before I can speak the bone like arm came into my direction, and she frowned.

"Looks like the last question will need to be held off while I am powerful I am nothing compared to the judges they operate on law's that are so far beyond me that I dare not offend them also this is their realm of power and no being beside them can resist them. So human I offer you the chance at rebirth as a champion of mine will you free my people and live a life of adventure and war or will you just let go of this opportunity for a new life with your memories mostly intact?"

"What will you offer me, goddess, if I accept your proposal."

"I will grant you another life while you may not remember your former life all that well and most certainly not your sex. Sorry, that is the rules even I can't go around them without attracting some very unsavory people to my location and revealing some of my plans can't let that happen nope can not allow that to happen at all." Grera mentioned to herself that last phrase several times before moving on.

"What do you say mortal want to be reborn as a kitsune I promise you will enjoy it a lot maybe not so much in the beginning but down the road after a few bumps and tumbles doing the beginning and with a few wise decisions on your part you shouldn't have to much trouble. What do you say Romulus want to have another shot at life

For a moment that seemed like an eternity to the young being known as Romulus, he seriously considered everything while he was once attached to his sex it seemed pointless, meaningless even then again he was also terrified at the thought of being female and more so in losing his memories. But he didn't have long the arm was now atop of him he needs to make his decision soon.

"Yes" With that single statement the Goddess of Rebirth and Fertility spoke a single word of power that sent the entirety of the realm of death into a bright burning light, and as one the arms of bone reached out to her. But the person that she wanted to be her champion was going to be reborn soon.

But she won't be able to escape, and she had to suffer the consequences of using her power to reborn a person without the permission of the judges.

"Why did you use your power Grara you know that each soul must be cleansed of memories before being granted life once more. So why did you break this ancient convenient that each god upon ascension must agree before taking the final steps into godhood and if they refuse to be cast out and banished from the higher realms that only gods may enter? DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE PERILS AND RISK THAT A MIND THAT REMEMBERS THERE PAST CAN DO YOU, FOOLISH WOMAN. ESPECIALLY IN THE WORLDS OF POWER IN THE LESSER WORLDS, THIS WOULD BE FINE BUT NOT ON THOSE WORLDS. We sentence you to ten million years of torture with no way to be saved for this transgression, and your spawn will have a harder time as the consequences of your actions as the founding god of the Kitsune the sire of their race."

The Judges spoke as one, no one knew how many there were, but some say it was twelve. The voices had this rusty, grating sound that could be best described like fingernails on a chalkboard. The boom reverberated throughout the entire higher realms as the judgment was pronounced upon this insignificant being who dared to impede the work of the ever watchful judges.

As one the hands of the judges grasped the Kitsune goddess of rebirth and fertility who accepted her fate as if she knew what was going to happen to her and as one all the hands lifted her up and tossed her into a portal that was reserved for there exclusive use.

This all happened in front of a golden individual who chuckled and with a snap of his fingers and a loose whisper that sent shivers down the judge's arms "Let the games begin."
