Chapter 5: 05 - Hobgoblin Slayer Knife

While the three men looked at Damien with an expression of suspicion, the chubby man finally changed his expression after recognizing him.

But what surprised Damien was that the expression of the chubby after recognizing him instead of the angry expression that Damien expected from that young man, what appeared on his face was a very happy expression.

"Hey little brother, you were the one who sold me that knife, right?" The chubby man asked excitedly as he walked over to Damien.

Seeing the strange excitement of the chubby man coming towards him, Damien was a little suspicious, but still, he replied, "Yes, and I didn't have the money to buy the healing potion with those coins. I will have to sell another knife to be able to buy one..."

Hearing this, the chubby man's eyes got even brighter as he looked at Damien. "This can only be a work of fate. Since those 6 copper coins were not enough to help you buy the healing portion, I'm going to buy from you another knife like that for 6 more copper coins, how about that?"

Seeing how this chubby man was talking, Damien was surprised. He believed he had tricked this fat man into buying the knife at an absurdly high price, but apparently the knife he had sold was... cheap?

"Sorry, buddy, but I don't have a knife like that anymore," Damien replied, and noticed the downcast expression on the chubby guy's face, "But I have another knife, a 'Hobgoblin Slayer Knife' this time."

Hearing this, the expression of the chubby man, who had been slightly dejected before, was now even more animated.

"This is incredible! If that 'Goblin Slayer Knife' already killed goblins so easily, a 'Hobgoblin Slayer Knife' must be even better! What is the price of that knife, little brother?" The chubby man asked excitedly.

Hearing this, Damien discovered that his assumption was correct. The knife he made was really worth more money than the amount which it had sold - at least, in this initial village.

Damien had already analyzed the knives and swords on the blacksmith's shelf, and he had confirmed that these swords were much better than the junk knives he had made. But because of the dust, no one had noticed those weapons hanging there.

And considering that the game had just launched, players still had no concept of the value of money and items, so selling an unusual item for 6 copper coins, for some it might be expensive, but when comparing that it was only 6 copper coins, and that in the future the player may have several gold coins, this value may seem cheap.

And Damien, of course, decided to take advantage of this situation. He wasn't forcing anyone to buy his knives, people were buying willingly, which didn't hurt Damien's character.

"Big brother, as this knife is of the 'Common' classification, I fear that I will have to sell it at a higher price. This one should be about 20 copper coins," Damien said as he pretended to be excited again.

"Little brother, 20 copper coins is very high. Players only start with 10 copper coins. The most I could afford is 10 copper coins for this knife," the chubby man also replied, pretending to be excited / dejected.

"Big brother, this knife has much better stats than the knife I sold you earlier. While the Goblin Slayer's attack is 2-4, this Hobgoblin Slayer's attack is 3-6; the damage is 50% greater!" Damien replied, making the chubby man's greedy expression noticeably brighter.

"Come on little brother! Being honest with you, my friends here only have 7 copper coins each, and I only have 1 copper coin that I earned in the last mission. The maximum we could pay is 15 copper coins for this knife," the chubby said regretfully.

"Then we have an agreement. It will be 15 copper coins!" Damien replied decidedly.

The chubby man: "?????"

The muscular man: "????"

The thin man: "?????"

'Little brother, if you wanted 15 copper coins, you only had to have offered that price initially and we would have paid. You didn't need to ask for such a high price right away,' The chubby man thought, but didn't say this out loud, while transferring the 15 copper coins to Damien and running off to kill more goblins.

Damien looked at his inventory and saw the 17 copper coins there, feeling like a tycoon. With these coins he could forge several more knives and become rich, in addition to gaining numerous statistics.

'Who needs to level up? I can be a level 1 player with stats from a level 10 player!' Damien thought excitedly as he went back to the forge.

There, he saw the complicated expression on the blacksmith's face. Initially this blacksmith just wanted to trick a poor guy on the street to earn 2 copper coins without making any effort. Even if the mark spoiled the materials, there would be no problem, since the iron was of very poor quality.

But who could have known he would find someone who would make him feel jealous? With just two rubbish knives, which the blacksmith could make in 30 minutes, this kid made more money than the blacksmith normally made in a few days!

Damien didn't even bother with the blacksmith. With the help of the game system, he had already figured out how to learn how to make weapons. In Damien's mind, maybe by the end of the day he could even make a rare sorting knife!

But reality again did not care about his plans. After spending the whole day making knives, Damien had made five more knives, and unfortunately, all of the knives were rated 'Common'.

Clearly the last knives were better than the first. The damage reached 4-6 and 4-7 in the last two knives, but still, it was not enough to reach the 'Uncommon' classification.

With each 'Common' knife, Damien had received 2 statistic points, which for a normal class, was equivalent to 2 levels, but for a Legendary class, it was still part of level 1.

Getting tired of just forging weapons, Damien decided to take a look at his statistics and go to hand over the mission to the city mayor, hoping that now, at the end of the day, there would be more space for him to approach.

[Player: Ares

Level: 01

Class: Legendary Blacksmith

Strength: 8

Vitality: 8

Dexterity: 10

Intelligence: 5

Wisdom: 5

Lucky: 5

Statistical points: 0

Skills: None.]

Every time he finished a knife, Damien immediately applied the points he had earned in order to make an even better knife.

And it worked! With each point that Damien added to his statistics, the process of forging a knife became even easier. Unfortunately it was not enough for him to be able to make an 'Uncommon' knife. But Damien didn't care about that. It had only been 12 hours since the game had launched. Considering that 20 hours in the game was equivalent to 10 hours in real life, and that the server was only open between 10 pm and 10 am, Damien knew he still had 8 more hours left to play that day.

Since he was a warrior-class player, staying in a forge making weapons all day was not something Damien loved. He had had fun inside, yes, but no more than the pleasure he had when killing monsters.

So, in order to complete the first mission of the game, Damien headed towards the home of the mayor of the initial village.
