Chapter 3: Their First Meeting
Joyce opened the taxi and entered.
"Hey, sorry to keep you waiting"
Noticed her limping legs, Franda asked Jenny, "What happened to her?"
"As usual, she sprained her ankle in heels"
Looking at her and shaking her head "You and your heels are really mortal enemy. You shouldn't offend your leg by wearing high-heels you know..."
"Oh, puh-leeassseeeee, it's only a 5cm heels. she's the only one who can fall or sprained her legs in such short heels"
and soooo the banter went on and on until they reached their rented house....
Unusually quiet, the two friends thought that she was sleepy and just needed to rest because of her aching feet. Inside her heart, turmoil began and her mind flew to the first meeting 14 years ago...
She was walking on the way to her boarding house from the bus-stop, when she noticed 2 people walking towards her.
"Joyce!" one of them called her. It was her bestfriend. Lily.
"Hi! Where are you going?"
"We are going to the minimarket nearby to buy some supplies for our art lesson."
Joyce looked at the other person, a tall lanky boy. He must be at least 185cm. While she's just a short 165cm. Noticing Joyce looking at the boy next to her, Lily introduced them.
"Joyce, this is my classmate and my art group mate. Jayden Oh."
"Oh, Hi!" Joyce said to him.
"Hi." Jayden said.
Since Joyce is quite shy in personality, she didn't say much more and continued making short conversation with Lily and off they went to their separate way.
Joyce and Lily were best friends since they were in their kindergarten school. Where Joyce is, that's where you'll find Lily. So, when Lily asked Joyce to study abroad together, Joyce immediately asked her parents to let her go with her. So, the two daring teenagers went to country S to continue their middle-high school for 4 years.
Both staying at the same boarding house and in the same room with 2 others.
However, when both took the entry test for a few different schools and found that they were accepted at different school. Since it's quite hard to pass the entry test, both agrees to just stick to their respective school. Thus, it was the first time both of them were separated.
Every Saturday, Joyce would sometimes visit Lily at her school since Joyce do not have any extra curricular activities at school, but Lily who was in Drama Group would need to attend and practiced on Saturday. So, the next Saturday, Joyce went to Lily's school and waited for her.
When Joyce was waiting at the school canteen, she looked at the basketball court and saw a group of boys playing basketball match. Although not a sport fanatics, Joyce love basketball and badminton games. Soon, she was absorbed in the game. Once the competition was over, Joyce looked at her watch and noticed that it was time for Lily to meet her.
"Joyce! Waited for long?" Lily voice called her from far and she was waving excitedly.
"Hey!" Joyce walk-run towards Lily. "Finish?"
and they started chatting.
Joyce was actually quite a chatter-box with her friends and people she's comfortable with. But with new acquantance, she shut up pretty quickly.
Lily was waving again at a person behind Joyce.
Joyce turned around and saw Jayden with a girl she didn't know.
"Joyce, you've met Jayden, this is my other classmate. Her name is Sherly."
"Hi, Sherly." Joyce shyly greeted Sherly.
" Hi! Nice to meet you!" Sherly replied smiling and looking at Jay with meaningful look on her face.
"What?!" Jayden blushed.
"Hmmm... Nothing..." Sherly teased but her eyes were looking at Joyce.
Joyce was confused looking at their exchanged but said nothing. Soon the four of them walked out of school and after sending Lily and Joyce home, Sherly and Jayden went to their own house.
Sherly and Jayden were cousins. So, their parents had arranged them to live in the same rented house so they can take care of each other.
"So, that's the girl you talked about???" Sherly asked Jayden while they were walking home.
"Shut Up!" Jayden answered annoyed and blushing profusely again.
and Sherly laughter was all over after Jayden scolded her.
