Chapter 3: Brute

                     JEREMY'S POV

With my baseball shorts, a white T-shirt and my black beanie, I'm ready to explore St. Louisa.

I can't particularly say I like the area because I just arrived yesterday but with the blooming sidewalk flowers and favourable weather, I could say I'm slowly digging it.

When I hear a familiar yip, I jog outside the apartment to find a lady with a hose pointed at my dog and said dog dripping wet.

"Did you just squirt my dog?"

At the sound of my voice, my dog, Brute, barks and skips over to my feet. I smile softly and pet his head before turning to face the perpetrator.

"That's your dog?" The lady raises her brow. I nod.

She frowns for a moment. She lowers the nozzle of the hose before she raises it up back and points it towards my direction. I stumble back in surprise, nearly falling on Brute.

"Then I should squirt you too." She holds it as though she was holding a gun and with what I've seen, she's pretty scary.

Her arms were covered in tattoo that sneaked into her tank top. Her hair was pulled up in a high ponytail and soap suds were sprawled all over her face. She had a nose piercing and her face was stone hard and scary.

"Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait!" I raise my hand up in surrender and she glares at me.

"Speak," She lowers the hose.

I sigh a little in relief. It wasn't a big deal but me getting drenched and changing clothes was a really big deal.

"Okay," I walked closer to the car she was standing beside. "I'm sorry Brute disturbed last night. He isn't always like this, I guess it's the feel of a new environment. I'm sorry,"

She looks at me for sometime. Her eyebrows furrowed in deep thought. Then she says, "You named your dog Brute?"

A chuckle escapes me and I run my fingers across my hair.

"Yes... Wait, I mean, No! My brother named him. He's actually the sole owner of the dog."

She nods and turns back to the car, which looks like she is washing it. Not a pretty job for a lady but what can I say. I stand there awkwardly for some minutes, even Brute could feel the awkwardness because he would nip at my knee-length shorts once in a while, like he was begging me to lighten the tension.

"So, um, I guess we started off on the wrong foot, so why don't we do this again," I stretched my hands out, "I'm Jeremy."

She raises her head from where she crouched, washing the tire of the Jeep. She glanced down at my offered hand and glares at me slightly.

"Dude, there are soap suds on my fingers. Put your hand away, you look stupid." She waves her right hand in a Shoo motion.

I grin sheepishly as she sprays the roof of the car, thereby clearing all signs of foam immediately. I wait patiently as she does that to all other parts of the car.

Brute had ran off along the line. His hyperactivity, sometimes, is worrying, but since our last visit to the vet we've had to cause to worry because, apparently, it was normal for a 9-months old dog.

"You didn't tell me your name," I noticed and the car lady smirks before dusting off her shirt and placing all cleaning supplies in front the apartment next to mine, which I could guess was her apartment.

"What do I look like?" She raises a brow.

My eyes widened in surprise. I didn't expect this at all. Sure, she didn't look like one to easily give in but still...

"Um," she sits on her porch and leans her head against the slim metal pole that supported the roofing.

"Yo, Allison! Bring me ma keys I'm gon' be late for work!"

Allison.

An old man struts out of the apartment close to the car la- Allison's apartment. He was wearing a baseball hat and casual clothes. An old woman leaned on the door frame and stared him. Oh, a couple.

Allison smirks at me before throwing the keys at the old man that owns the car she was cleaning.

"That's your job?"

"Yeah, got a problem with it?" She raises her brow.

"No, no! It's pretty cool, I guess?"

"Keep it at tha- Get that dog off me lawn!"

I turn as I see Brute pissing all over her lawn. I mentally kick Brute in the ass. He was practically embarrassing me right now. I facepalm. I smile apologetically at Allison before running to an already running Brute. He barks happily as I glare at him.

"I'll be back!" I yell and pursue Brute who had absolutely no problem with being pursued.

When I catch up with him, I'll give him the lecture of his life.
