Chapter 4: Chapter 1

In the beginning, before the sea and lands and sky, there was but one face of nature in the entire universe, whom they called Chaos. It was a rough and uneven mass, in which there was nothing except idle weight and the congealed, dissonant seeds of unstable things.

No Helios yet gave forth his sunlight to the world, nor yet did Selene display the waxing moon, nor did earth yet hang in surrounding air, nor had yet Amphitrite held in her embrace the far reaches of the world.

The ground was unstable, the waves unswimmable, the airs lightless; no form of anything lasted, for one hindered another, and in one body cold contended with hot, wet strove against dry, soft things fought with hard things, and the weightless grappled with the weightful.

Eventually, some of its matter was collected to form the earth, which developed a personality that called herself Gaea. After some time, the sky appeared as a great dome above the earth that became Ouranos.

Water pooled out of the mist of Chaos and formed the first seas on earth, which like his predecessors, developed a consciousness Pontus. Finally, another dome emerged from Chaos. Unlike Ouranos, this was Tartarus, the Pit of abyss right beneath the Earth itself.

From then on Other Protogenoi also appeared from Chaos, namely Erebos the Darkness and Mist, Nyx the Night, who was born with the help of Tartarus, and Akhlys the Misery and Poison, who was created with the help of Nyx. From the union of Erebos and Nyx, Aether the Upper Air and Light came into being. Without the aid of a consort, Nyx gave birth to Elpis, the Spirit of Hope, as well Hemera, who ironically was the Day.

So began the first age known as the age of Protogenoi. In which the Protogenoi the first race of immortals to come into existence and were born directly from the Sea of Chaos ruled the world. At the start, everything was alright with everyone minding their own business but soon Chaos went into eternal slumber, fading and becoming one with reality itself as it had used up all its powers to create the Protogenoi from the nothingness.

With Chaos having faded and become one with reality. They were a huge vacuum of power and because they were no one managing the cosmos, the cosmos slowly became disorderly and chaotic. This chaotic state became so much that Protogenoi were influenced by it thus igniting the first Divine war in which various Protogenoi fought for the hegemony of the world.

The war was so massive that it resulted in the fading of many of the Protogenoi causing natural disasters as the fallen immortals integrated with the very fabric of reality. With the surviving Primordial being permanently weakened.

Eventually, after years of war Ouranos came out victorious becoming the ruler of the cosmos and bringing order to the chaotic world. He later took Gaea as his consort and together brought forth their children the Titans, the Cyclopes, and the Hekatonkheires.

Ouranos wasn't the fatherly type and didn't care for his children at all. He hated them. He hated all his children but especially those of his children that did not look normal such as the Hekatonkheires and Elder Cyclopes.

They were unsightly in his opinion and he wanted them gone but he couldn't kill them because they were immortal, just like he was.

So instead, Ouranos chained all six of them up with extremely durable black chains forged from the darkness of the night sky and subsequently hurled them into Tartarus. This caused Gaea great grief. She was also furious because they were her children, and Ouranos cared nothing for them.

Enraged at Ouranos's actions, Gaea eventually forged a sickle within the earth's essence and imbued it with most of her powers. She then gathered her remaining children to free their brothers and overthrow their arrogant and sadistic father. Initially, only Kronos would agree to help his mother, who gave him the sickle.

He was able to convince all of his Titan brothers except for Oceanus to aid him in their father's murder. Kronos' sisters Theia, Tethys, Themis, Phoebe, Mnemosyne, and Rhea refused to participate as well

While preparing to ambush his father, Kronos asked his mother to distract his father from the earth as Ouranos would lose power out of his domain while he hid behind an enormous boulder along with his brother Hyperion, Iapetus, Krios, and Koios.

After his brothers held the struggling Ouranos down, Kronos used his sickle and severed his genitals, claiming his supremacy over the cosmos. However, right before Kronos sliced him up, Ouranos predicted that one day Kronos himself would suffer the same fate at the hands of his child. Then, Ouranos' form was spread so thin that was never able to form a consciousness again.

The ichor from him fell on the earth and the Furies, Nymphs, Satyrs, and Meliai were all born from it. Kronos then threw Ouranos' remains into the sea as a gesture of disgrace to Oceanus, who had refused to help take down their father.

As he had promised, Kronos granted the brothers who helped him control of the four corners of the world and released his Elder Cyclopes and Hekatonkheires brothers from Tartarus.

In return, they built a magnificent black marble palace for Kronos on the top of Mount Orthys and a massive obsidian throne encrusted with gold and diamonds. Believing everything was fine now, their mother decided to rest for many thousands of years.

Fearing his father's prediction that he would be overpowered by one of his children, Kronos had initially vowed to stay a bachelor forever.

However, after all, five of Kronos' elder siblings got married and had many children, they no longer visited him on Mount Orthys. While they claimed to be too busy, Kronos knew that the actual reason was their secret fear of his might and infamous temper.

Furthermore, Kronos began to fall deeply in love with Rhea, his most beautiful sister. He seemed to believe that marrying her would improve his personality and induce his siblings to visit him more often.

In the end, Kronos confessed his deep feelings for Rhea and proposed to her. To Kronos' great delight, Rhea accepted. Their wedding was held at Mount Orthys. Rhea had one bridesmaid, her sister Tethys.

He had one best man, his loyal brother Hyperion. All the Titans were allowed to come. It was a beautiful day with a clear sky, blossoming flowers, and a waterfall behind them. Rhea walked down a carpet of flowers. Her two loyal lions accompanied her at the reception, which was served with nectar and ambrosia.

A few weeks after her and Kronos' wonderful honeymoon, Rhea gave birth to their first child a beautiful girl named Hestia. At first, Kronos seemed willing to be a good father and not to resemble his father.

However, Kronos suddenly realized that Hestia wasn't a Titaness, but rather, a more powerful and beautiful immortal goddess.

Fearing that Hestia might one day overpower him, Kronos quickly swallowed her whole, to Rhea's horror. Trying to calm down his beloved wife, Kronos would give her many gifts and invite her to multiple magnificent dinners.

Rhea would give birth to four even more beautiful children Demeter, Hera, Hades, and Poseidon, all of whom were gods. As before, Kronos feared that any one of them might one day overpower him and swallowed all of them whole.

Rhea pleaded with Kronos to spare their children but with no success, since even Kronos' great love for Rhea wasn't enough to overpower his selfish and evil nature.

For his savagery towards his children, Kronos became known as "King Cannibal." All five of their children had been growing undigested in Kronos' stomach, being immortal gods.

A distraught Rhea soon heard the voice of her mother Gaea advising her to give birth to her final child who would save his other siblings on the island of Crete. Claiming that Koios advised her to do so, Rhea successfully departed for Crete.
