Chapter 11: Poisoning A River

The Misty Mountain Range was immeasurable in terms of magnitude. A chilling atmosphere ruled the atmosphere as mist rolled through at tempestuous speeds. After seeing the terrifying scenery most wouldn't dare to enter, although not that most of them had any motives to enter either. The multiple mountain ranges connected together lead to nowhere but different empires. Traveling through the range was slower, riskier and not many had the courage to do so.

Surrounding the Misty Mountain Range were the many empires of the world. Yuan Ming couldn't remember, but was sure that each empire had cities and sects in charge of protecting the border.

Unfortunately, Yuan Ming wasn't interested in them — he was sure he'd never mix with the human race ever again. It was regrettable, and slightly unfortunate. A part of him was still human and didn't like not being able to talk.

Two weeks had passed, but they still hadn't arrived at the Misty Mountain Range.

Yuan Ming leaped from tree to tree in the shadows and occasionally turned to look at the far away mountain range. A few maggot infested undead midgets followed him with quick maneuvers. Actually, they were monkeys. But they lacked fur and skin; the only thing that suggested they were monkeys were their monkey-like screeching.

The land below was green and had a road, so they didn't wait and quietly left so they wouldn't be spotted by humans.

Yuan Ming hadn't even thought about eating other beasts or killing humans in the journey; his mind was fully concentrated on the Misty Mountain Range. After all, he had to build a new Necropolis in a suitable location.

Soon, they approached a small border town. It wasn't the frontier city, but the defense was still awe-inspiring. He could sense a dozen strong essence signatures from the walled town. As such, he didn't dare to wander close to it and instead picked another path.

The bulky Yuan Ming sometime made trees shake when he jumped on them, but he didn't really pay attention to it. Once a grassy plain appeared, he had to travel on foot.

Yuan Ming ruthlessly ordered in their language, ‹be careful around here…make sure no one sees us. If any human approaches us, kill them!›

A burst of life-essence came from his core and traveled to his legs; the veins and muscles on the leg twitched and strengthened as a result.

"GRRR!"

His short growl motivated the undead monkeys as they began running. Yuan Ming dashed into the undead crowd and mixed with them.

[Try to avoid righteous sect members on the mountain range . Most of those sects occasionally hold pretentious beast killing competitions, where thousands of disciples are let loose.]

The whispers that disappeared for a while returned to pester him. This time the voice was relaxed and nonchalant.

Naturally Yuan Ming was unhappy, 'You filthy b***tch, I lost my arm because of you. '

[Whoa whoa, calm down. If you behave like this, you'll sooner or later die in a ditch. Just because you inherited a Plague Lord's body doesn't mean you're hot sh*t.]

Yuan Ming controlled his anger and asked the obvious questions, 'Who's the Plague Lord? You've been talking about that since I've been in this body! '

[Naturally, it's you. Carrier of death and plague, a Plague Lord; creation of the Legion's overlord. You've inherited its body.]

[But don't worry, I've freed you from their control. Anyways, you should have more questions, but I don't really have the energy to answer them.]

[As you progress through the ranks, you'll gain more abilities from your body…Rank 5 is the bare minimum for protection in this world, so be quick. Or smart. By then you'll learn how to control other people. ]

And just like that, the sh**ty voice disappeared. Leaving Yuan Ming and his minions alone on the plain.

Rolling his eyes, he increased his speed. He stopped and crouched when he saw the Misty Mountain Range. When he saw no people come out, he stood up.

Even from up-close, the Misty Mountain Range was huge. To his left and right was a limitless forest that contained nothing. Only deeper inside could one see mountains and valleys. The one thing that made Misty Mountain Range unique was its mist. Even the outer edge of the range, which was clean of even chickens, much less beasts, was covered in white mist.

The mist rolling above the forest somehow never even came an inch outside it. When Yuan Ming entered the forest he came to know why ordinary mortals shuddered at the name of Misty Mountain Range.

Fog. Just fog, fog, and fog.

The moon shone its light into the forest, but the heavy mist inside blocked it. Inside the outer forest, Yuan Ming couldn't see anything as the white fog blocked his view. The barks of the trees were visible to a certain extent, but after a meter his vision couldn't differentiate between ground and tree.

Fortunately, it was only the outer forest. And the outer forest was short considering the length of the Misty Mountain Range. He quickly maneuvered through the forest on foot and made his undead minions follow him, lest they get lost.

The fog couldn't deter them. After a few hours they saw a valley between two mountains — which signified they had entered the mountain range.

Yuan Ming cautioned himself and traveled down the valley, into a lowered river which lead deeper into the range. He wanted to go as deep as he could! As much as his strength allowed him to!

Soon enough, Misty Mountain Range's reputation was proved as a swarms of bugs flew from the other side of the river and locked onto Yuan Ming and his minions.

The bugs' shells shone in the mist as they erratically flew. They resembled mosquitoes due to their needle-like fangs, but the difference was that they were equal to chickens in terms of size!

Marrow Devouring Mosquitoes!

Yuan Ming instantly recognized them, as he saw them attack his slum once. The difference was that the one he saw was smaller in size and unranked, while the ones he's seeing now are Rank 1 Beasts.

‹Don't let them land on your bodies! They specialize in eating bone marrow and brain!› Yuan Ming warned his brain-dead minions and dashed to the side, evading a mosquito that flew towards him.

A monkey heard his command and tried to evade the flying mosquitoes, but due to its slowness one landed on its back and injected its fangs. Its translucent body slowly began to fill with black blood.

A few seconds later, the monkey's body turned pale and it fell to the ground; its fate was sealed after the bug landed on him.

A few dozens of such mosquitoes ran after the other monkeys, while only a few of them dared to approach Yuan Ming. He smirked when he noticed that they were smart enough to avoid him. Of course, some were dumb too.

Yuan Ming expressed regret at the loss of another monkey, but didn't care much. He dashed to his left and caught a flying mosquito with his palm.

"BZZZ, BZZZZZZSSS!"

The glass-like translucent wings of the mosquito flapped at inhumane speeds as it made buzzing sounds. Yuan Ming squashed it with one squeeze and sent green-goo flying through the river.

Within the water, it was difficult to move. Which made it hard for the monkeys to escape. While the flying mosquitoes held the advantage

He was kind of disappointed with the monkeys. From now on, he'd just ignore unranked beings. Turning them into undead was just a waste of time.

A hissing sound reverberated in his ears as he looked at the source. The mosquito that sucked a monkey dry fell on the river and started to struggle. Its body eventually burst as the blood contained within it mixed with the river.

The blood floated on top of the water like oil. Its viscosity made it look like some kind of black oil.

The river was fast, so fast that many of the monkeys couldn't even hold on. As such, the blood traveled so far that he couldn't see it anymore.

Not caring about his monkeys, Yuan Ming opened his jaw and sprayed the water with his diseased spit. As expected, his spit floated on the water similar to monkey's blood, but was far more heavier.

Like an endless pump, Yuan Ming's mouth ejected liters after liters of spits into the water. The river was small and contained within the valley, so soon enough the translucent water was polluted. He estimated that many beasts would drink from the river, which would benefit him.

Yuan Ming sprinted through the river, but left behind the bodies of the monkeys. They were more likely to burden him than help him, so he abandoned them.

..

Yuan Ming climbed an uphill slope and successfully crossed the valley. Unlike what he thought, the river was very long.

'Actually, how big is this place? That river was almost two li long! Good thing it was shallow, otherwise I would've drowned…'

The mist was even more intense deeper into the range, and he wasn't even that deep. But it was actually good for him, because the mist was so thick that light couldn't even pierce through. Maybe he wouldn't have to hide anymore from the sun.
