Chapter 2: 4-Year-Old

{Third Person's POV}
Earth, Year 2204, 2nd February, City M, Mahiro's house
Today is the birthday of Mahiro, she is now 4 years old, 11 years until she became 15.
"Happy birthday Mahiro!", Mahiro's mother said with a happy expression.
With a happy expression too, Mahiro replied, "Hehe, thank you, mom!".
Besides Mahiro, there is a boy and a girl.
The boy has spiky brown hair, emerald eyes, chubby cheeks, and a small chubby body.
The girl has medium-length straight black hair and light-brown eyes, she has a small body, though taller than the boy.
They are Mahiro's friends, and both of them are twins.
Besides Mahiro's mother, a woman is sitting beside her, she has long black hair that was tied into a ponytail, and she has emerald eyes, it was clear that the boy's eyes took after her.
She has a slim and medium in height body with small curves.
"Come on Mahiro, blow out the candles!", said the boy excitedly, even though it is not his birthday.
A bit annoyed though she tries to hide it, Mahiro replied, "Alright alright". And then she blows out the candles.
She tried to blow out the candles but it was much harder than she thought, so she blows much stronger, unconsciously making her mouth move long like a duck.
Mahiro's mother moves from several angles to take a picture of Mahiro blowing the candles out with her funny mouth.

Looking at the photos, Mahiro's mother said, "Oh my, you are cute Mahiro, as expected of my baby, take a look at the photo". And showed the pictures of Mahiro.
The picture was Mahiro blowing out the candle with her mouth making weird curves.
Both the girl and the boy laughed at the photo, making Mahiro embarrassed.
"Well, it's time to slice the birthday cake!", Mahiro's mother announced with a tone of excitement.
Hearing the words that were spoken, the twins became excited, they have been eyeing the cake since the rainbow cake looks delicious after all.
"Come on Mahiro! Cut it! I can't wait to taste the cake!", said the boy, he is craving to eat that delicious rainbow cake.
"Calm down, Hiroki, the birthday girl needs to taste it first after all", the mother of the twins warned Hiroki, the boy.
Crossing his arm and with a dejected look, he sat there impatiently waiting for Mahiro to finish her cake.
"Don't be sad, big brother, we will get our cake soon", the other twin spoke trying to cheer up her big brother.
Her words works and made Hiroki calm down a little, though he still look dejected on the outside.
"I'll take the pictures for you, Mitsuko", the twin's mother proposed to help Mitsuko, Mahiro's mother.
"Thank you, here you go", Mitsuko replied and handed her phone to her.
All of them have fun and Hiroki finally gets his rainbow cake and was happy, Mahiro gets gifts from each people that attended her birthday, which is her mother, Mitsuko, the twins, Hiroki and Momo, and their mother, Setsuko.
For the twins, Hiroki gave her a shirt with a picture of a smiling sun and the word 'Have a Sunny Day!', Momo gave her a yellow skirt with flower symbols all over the skirt.
The twins's mother, Setsuko gave her a pencil case with a picture of colorful ponies.
And finally, Mahiro's mother gave her a notebook.
When Mahiro got her gift from her mother, she was extremely happy and hug her tight with a bright smile plastered on her face.

The twins and their mother has gone home, and Mahiro's mother is now cleaning up the mess from the birthday party, as the good daughter she is, she wants to help her mother, which her mother warmly accepts.
After helping her mother, Mahiro goes to her room while carrying her gifts.
Arriving, she put the clothes in her wardrobe and brought the pencil case and notebook to her desk, before putting both of the items inside a drawer, she thought, 'I'll use this notebook in the future for my diary and notes about my nanomachines... If one day I get it', she put the items in and closed the drawer.
"Mahiro, it's time for dinner!". Mahiro heard her mother's voice shouting, her voice came from the kitchen.
Hearing her mother, she shouted, "Yes, I'm coming!". She exit her room and ran toward the dining room.
...
'Should I do it?', munching her food, Mahiro is thinking about something.
'Alright, let's do it'. Taking a deep breath, she called her mom.
"Mom", Mahiro said with a serious tone
"Yes, dear?", hearing her daughter talking seriously, she tries to carefully hear what her daughter is about to say.
"Do I have a father?"
She was shocked.
She didn't expect that question from her daughter, not at this early age.
"W-What do you mean, Mahiro?", she stuttered, she is afraid of Mahiro knowing the truth.
"Well, Hiroki and Momo's father sometimes came to our house, but what about me?", with a dejected look, she continue speaking.
"I have never seen my father, I don't even see pictures of him".
Mitsuko, feeling her daughter's sadness, wanted to tell her the truth, but she thinks that this is too early for her age, with sadness mixed stern face, she replied, "I'm sorry Mahiro, I can't tell you just yet".
"But-"
"No buts!", Mitsuko cut Mahiro's words, Mahiro's mother for the first time yelled at her, it was shocking for both Mahiro and Mitsuko.
"I-I'm sorry mother", shocked, Mahiro immediately apologizes to her for asking something sensitive.
'I shouldn't have asked that question'
"No, I should be the one to apologize because I yelled at you, I'm sorry", Mitsuko apologized back to her, she came close to Mahiro to hug her.
Mahiro who is sitting beside her, leaned forward to her mother to hug her back.
The hugging continues for a few seconds.
"Let's finish our food", Mahiro's mother said with watery eyes.
"Yes", Mahiro replied with watery eyes too.

Finished eating Mitsuko took their plate and goes to the kitchen to wash them while Mahiro goes inside her room.
Arriving in her room, she immediately dives into her bed.
She sighed and thinks about what was happening these 4 years in this life.
At first, she tries to hide her intelligence but when meeting the twins, she has some doubts since they were smarter than a normal toddler would be in her previous life's world, but after going to the park with the twins, she realized the kids in this world is smart, so after going to the park, she gradually revealed her intelligent of being able to read and write to her mother, she was able to read and write this world language, which is Japanese, its because, from a bonus gift from ROB, she only realized it a few days after her reincarnation and thanked ROB many times, while Mitsuko is surprised but she doesn't take it seriously.
After that, Mahiro asked her mother to buy books for her to read and she requested for one of the books to be about a history book, Mitsuko asked her, "Why?", and Mahiro replied, "It's because I'm curious about the world!".
"O.K., I'll buy it for you, but read the other books first ok?"
"O.K. mom and thank you!"
"You're welcome".
In Mahiro's free time, she read the history book and was surprised by what she just read.
The world she is in is a 1 massive continent, 85% of the world is an island and the rest is the sea, in the land, there is 1 massive unified country, the country is divided into 26 pieces and was called a city, from city A to city Z
It is said in the book that in the year 2160, a huge pandemic broke out in the world, it started in the city I (A/N: it's i, not L) and slowly spread to the neighboring city, the cause of the pandemic is unknown, but Mahiro thinks that they just hid the cause behind the pandemic, maybe its related to the zombie apocalypse that is about to happen?
It's a pandemic where the infected at first will be caught with the serious flu and later their body was slowly rotting from the arms area until the person dies.
The government has no choice but to quarantine several cities that were heavily affected by the pandemic, 7 years later, a vaccine was found and 3 years later after the vaccine was found, the virus finally died down, but society was still affected and crimes were at its peak.
Due to the effect of the virus, which is rotting, prosthetic arms became popular worldwide, making other fields, especially technologies stagnate except for prosthetic arms.
30 years later, the government managed to fully stabilize and returned the world to how it supposed to be was before the pandemic happened.
'Now matter how many times I think about it, the zombie apocalypse can get dangerous, especially with 1 massive land and not several big ones, I hope the outbreak doesn't happen here first', Mahiro thought, she is worried about what will happen in the future, especially with her loving mother and friend, she doesn't want anything bad happened to them.
With a sigh, she goes to sleep.
