It was the dumbest thing. He got caught in a rockslide—a stupid rockslide!—while on a hiking trip with some buddies. All of them died and he honestly wished he had just died with them rather than living like this.

Solid logic.
She turned and sure enough, their son was spying on them. At least she knew he wasn't able to hear anything because the apartment was soundproofed fairly well. It was better for him to believe his parents were together willingly.

It’s moments like this that I realize that some things about my childhood weren’t as typical as they seem from my perspective. My parents were both in emergency services, so many of their associates were as well. Which means most of the kids around my age that I saw outside of school had parents in emergency services or related fields. I don’t know if I ever went to someone’s house who *didn’t* have a stethoscope and other portable medical exam equipment around.

I have no idea how I missed that and I am going to look up a recipe for it. Thank you!

Fair point. I think I was assuming he’d be out networking, but it really would be quite the coincidence.
Would she even be safe after getting the official hit called off though? There was still the Agency to contend with. They might be more than a little pissed off that she had caused their best agent to go rogue. Returning to normal life might be an unattainable dream at this point.

Vincent didn't respond for a few minutes. 'I plan to but the time isn't right yet. I'm of the same opinion. I believe the more automated the world is the less chance there is of human error causing problems. I'm glad you think the same way.'
Urban · Mcllorycat
You know, that’s fair.
"Whew! You scared this old man for a moment."

You have just blown my mind.
"Marry me," he replied.

Thank you!
They would come get her, wouldn't they? Only Fletcher knew how dangerous that was though. None of the others were aware of her father's powers. He had promised he would protect her from her parents but what good was telekinesis against superstrength?

I think I have a rant on Tarzan somewhere in the comments of one of Mcllorycat’s stories. 😂
How could you live in L.A. your entire life and never go to Disneyland? That was practically a rite of passage around here even if you weren't a huge Disney fan. She did not come from a family of Disney buffs—her dad used to complain about their rendition of Hercules any time Disney came up—but they had gone twice when she was a kid.

They’re totally brothers.

You know, I’ve given some thought to this. Hellhounds are naturally invisible, and it’s weird that anyone can see her at all. She’s been raised as a regular dog, but she clearly still has her hunting instincts. I think one of those instincts is “hiding from everyone but the target”. So when she slips away to kill monsters, she’s the last thing they ever see and no one else ever sees her do it. Of course, this assumes Jordan is right about them being normally invisible. He’s only familiar with them when they’re hunting. It’s entirely possible that they’re perfectly visible when being raised (typically by demons), and are only invisible while hunting.
She was on edge all Halloween and she wasn't the only one. Pepper must sense that there were more monsters around than usual. Dallin, as always, was completely clueless.

Thank you for indulging me!
Appalled by the idea of its sting and venom, he hastily backed away from her. He couldn't believe that she could remain calm with this small yet terrible wasp around. One wrong move and she'd really get a taste of it.

Now I’m curious about how the process differs.

"Thanks, Martin," Maya said to the robot out of habit even though he couldn't respond.

"I think I'm stuck," she called back in a muffled voice she wasn't sure he would be able to hear. "Hang on."

Of course, each doppelganger robot would be a fully armed weapon underneath their disguise. All he needed was the right materials for breakaway skin that would still look natural and go back to its original shape after the weapons were deactivated. It wouldn't do to have to replace arm skin or whatever every time the weapons systems were used.

The album Elle by Dawson Collins? Good choice.
The AI began playing soft piano music. "Does this suit your needs, madam?"

That’s what the deer said. 😜
He let out a heavy sigh. "I'm fine. Just hit a stupid deer that ran into the middle of the road on the way home and it kind of freaked me out."

I actually got a really cool bath robe once. It was blue with white stars and moons, and very fluffy.
'You don't have an opinion on a lot of things, huh? That's okay. People like dividing things up too much anyway. Books vs movies. Coffee vs tea. Cats vs dogs. Why can't we like everything without having to pick?'
