After my parents severed our mind-link for the 99th time, I walked into the Pack's archives, clutching the diagnosis for "Wolf Spirit Failure."
"Hello, I'd like to schedule my Banishment Ceremony in advance."
Ten minutes later, my parents rushed in with my adoptive sister, Isabella.
My father, Marcus, an Enforcer, slapped me the moment he entered, his glove dusted with silver powder.
"Have you no shame? Is this just another malicious ploy to steal Isabella's spotlight?"
My mother, Evelyn, a healer, snatched the diagnosis from my hand and scoffed. "So you've learned to forge diagnoses now. You've been a liar since you were a child."
Isabella tearfully grabbed their hands. "Dad, Mom, please don't blame Elara. I'll never mention becoming Luna again. Please, just get her to stop lying!"
I wiped away the black blood seeping from the corner of my mouth, my cheek burning from the silver, and turned back to the guardian of the archives.
"I have three days left to live. Please, just help me finalize my banishment."

I was diagnosed with late-stage Wolf Spirit Failure, and the healer prescribed a course of ritual treatments that were exorbitantly expensive.
But I couldn't afford it. My only option was to ask my parents for help.
When they rejected my mind-link for the 99th time, I took my diagnosis and walked into the archives.
"Hello, I'd like to apply for self-banishment."
The guardian looked at me, his expression softening with compassion.
"Child, don't you have a family?"
The words had barely left his lips when my parents arrived in a flurry with my adoptive sister, Isabella.
Without so much as a question, my father, Marcus, slapped me hard across the face with a glove coated in silver powder.
He pointed at me, his eyes burning with rage.
"You'd ruin Isabella's Luna ceremony out of pure spite! You've brought shame upon the entire Blackwood Pack!"
I stood there, stunned by the blow.
The searing pain of the silver pierced to my bones, and only then did I remember that today was Isabella's Luna ceremony.
My father had specifically taken two days off to be with her.
And me? His own daughter, dying from Wolf Spirit Failure, was being accused of causing trouble just for trying to fund my treatment.
Black-tinged blood mixed with my tears, splattering onto the floor.
Clutchching my burning cheek, I tried to explain, "Dad, I didn't..."
"Still trying to argue?" My mother, Evelyn, snatched the report from my hand. After a brief glance, she sneered, "You'd ruin Isabella's momentous ceremony just to get attention by faking an illness!"
"You've been a liar since you were a child. Did you really expect us to believe you?"
Was she implying this diagnosis was forged, too? As the thought crossed my mind, she lunged toward me, only to be held back by Isabella.
Tears welled in Isabella's eyes as she pleaded with me, her expression a mask of fragile innocence.
"Elara, I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have celebrated. Please, just stop deceiving Mom and Dad!"
"They've already worried themselves sick over you. If you just apologize, I promise I'll never mention becoming Luna again!"
My mother tenderly pulled Isabella into her arms, wiping away her crocodile tears.
Their picture-perfect mother-daughter bond made my eyes burn.
My mind went blank as a warm, metallic stream of black blood trickled from my nose.
I raised a hand to wipe it away, then turned back to the guardian.
"I have no family. Please help me finalize my banishment."
My father let out a scornful laugh. "Aren't you just trying to ruin Isabella's ceremony? How ridiculous, dragging the guardian into your little act!"
"You'll pay for this vicious little stunt!"
"And when you do, don't you dare call yourself our daughter!"
With that, they swept out with Isabella, not once looking back.
I filled out all the initial paperwork myself.
With only three days left to live, I applied for banishment alone.
And my parents were busy celebrating their adoptive daughter's future as Luna.
