After a few minutes of reading, Ms. Lei finally looked up at Tayaw in a new light. Noticing that Tayaw must have been standing for a long time while she was reading, she embarrassingly said "Oh, for f*ck's sake, brat. You should have at least asked if you can sit somewhere. Whatever. Drag that monobloc chair over there here, and sit down."
After Tayaw finally sat in front of Ms. Lei's table, Ms. Lei continued to talk to him. "Alright, let me print out a list of the names of the available agents I know personally. You can also state my positive evaluation of your work to these agents. They should at least not ignore you once they hear of my name. I'm also doing you a favor of including the names of the agents I know that are competent and are veterans in the industry." Ms. Lei said as she printed out a piece of paper and passed it to Tayaw. Tayaw accepted it with a smile. This was a huge favor to him by Ms. Lei. From the things he heard, it's really actually hard to make an agent notice a talent, and even harder to even make them interested in working for someone. He heard it talked about many times during his time with the Percussive Corrections. Many of their colleagues and fellow musicians took months, even years looking for agents, only to no avail. Even if one found an agent, it was just a tiny step in starting their careers in the show business. So with Miss Lei giving Tayaw permission to use her name, it will immediately eliminate many difficulties in trying to find an agent.
"I noticed a copyright symbol on the page after your title page. Publishers usually do the copyrighting of the books on their authors' behalf. Did you not know this?" Ms. Lei started chatting with Tayaw. She found Tayaw interesting and wanted to find out more about the young man. Tayaw, meanwhile, was surprised that publishers actually do the copyrighting, but hearing Ms. Lei's positive review of his manuscript, he did not regret copyrighting the fairytales himself.
"I was actually told by a friend, who is also an avid reader, to copyright my work if I'm planning to self-publish. I just don't have the money to publish my book myself." Tayaw replied, making up an imaginary friend.
"Well, a copyright is indeed beneficial. He must have liked your book too, to suggest you to self-publish. I also liked your book, and with its quality and it's immediately digestible originality, there's no telling if someone gets greedy especially the smaller publishing houses." Ms. Lei nodded. She at first scoffed at the copyright symbol in Tayaw's manuscript when she saw it, but when she immersed herself in the stories within, she found that the copyright symbol is indeed a good precaution against people who will have ideas on stealing Tayaw's work.
"Your title page says 'Vol. 1', are you planning to writing more? Or do you already have more stories in stock? " Ms. Lei switched the topic to Tayaw's book. "I do have a few more ideas stuck in my head, I just haven't had the time to write and polish them down." Ms. Lei was surprised at Tayaw's response. The manuscript has around 400 pages, each story having 3 to 5 pages; it means that Tayaw has written at least 30 stories. "You're impressive, young man! You also wrote your book in English. That tells me you're ambitious enough to dream of selling your books internationally. If a publishing firm picks up your book, I suggest you also release a version in our Teungebian language." She was also impressed at Tayaw writing in English. She herself, who loved books and hopped across many jobs in the industry, knew how hard it is translate books into English; much more write books in the language.  
Tayaw, on the other hand, was feeling guiltier and guiltier by each compliment. Yes, he can write well in English, but he knew himself he was not creative enough to write these stories by himself. But what can he do? The only use he can see for the literary works given to him is to publish them and share them to his world. It's not like he's stealing someone's work, right? Those works were given to him.
If it was before, he was afraid of the consequences and maybe even divine punishment of him publishing the works in his head. Now, however, he is confident that the roulette itself wanted him to publish the books it to him because right after Ms. Lei was done reading just a part of his manuscript, the "View Points" in his vision, which stayed at "0" since he it appeared, has changed into "Vision Points : 1". This was no punishment, but a reward. He also want to see how the people, maybe even the whole world, will react at the works he will release in the future, and in the process earn himself a fortune.
"I will, ma'am. I hope to sell internationally as well." Tayaw replied. After a few more minutes of chatting, an employee entered the office. "Well, look at the time, I should get going. I'm sorry for taking up your time. My work also starts in an hour at my job in Cioni." Tayaw, feeling like he already spent enough time at the office, looked for an excuse to leave. "Indeed. I was too absorbed reading your manuscript; I took up your time." Ms. Lei said as she didn't know what else to talk about with the young man. Throughout their conversation, the young man never took the lead when she gave him permission to. "It's actually a pleasure, Ms. Lei. I'm also thankful for sparing me the time. As a token, please keep my manuscript. I can make more copies of it. I hope to give you its book version soon." Tayaw said as he bid farewell to Ms. Lei.
Watching Tayaw leave the office, Ms. Lei had a smile on her face. "What an impressive young man." She said to herself as she opened the manuscript once again. She wants to look for a story she can tell her child later in the evening.
Leaving the building where the Writers' Guild was, he was already planning in his head how he would write the e-mails to the list of agents he received from Ms. Lei. While in the train, he checked his phone if he received any e-mails from agents who saw his postings on the job websites he made in the morning. Seeing no e-mails, he took out the list of agents and copied their e-mail addresses to his phone.
Aside from their names, phone numbers, and e-mail addresses, there are no further information about them, so he really had no idea how to pitch himself to each agent. He also cannot gather any more information after he looked them up in the internet with his phone. He can only work with what he has, so to pass the time in the train, he started writing and re-writing his pitch of himself to send to the agents.

Grimm's Fairy Tales of 95,000 words, is a compilation of 50 of my original fairy tales that defies the convention established by our predecessors when it comes to what fairy tales should be. With some of the tales' hidden social commentary for our world, it can also give our children a closer to life sense of reality and how the world works earlier and will prevent them from carrying idealistic principles and unrealistic dreams into adulthood.
Since time immemorial, we heard and saw stories that taught us lessons and gave color to our childhood, and helped reshaped us into the people we grew up to be. I myself can retell from memory some of the stories that my parents and teachers told me as a child. However, as I grew into a young lad and revisited the stories I have been told, it came to me that the tales we grew up with are nothing short of being too fantastical and too simple to pass on to the next generation.
I am currently about to enter as a freshman to Ouigab City's Northwestern university, but I have been writing and polishing the tales I have in my work for five years now. I hope that my skepticism of our currently established fairy tales along with my enthusiasm to change them shows through my stories' settings for you to see.
The first three short stories included in my work are enclosed to this letter, while the completed manuscript is available upon request. Ms. Nelly C. Lei of the Ouigab City's Writers' Guild of Teungeb office also spoke greatly of your experience in the industry.

Experimental Rat

I. INTRODUCTION

Laboratory rats are one of the most commonly used species for biomedical research, second only to mice. Developing an adequate institutional animal care and use program requires that the institution's occupational health and safety program perform risk assessment at the interface between humans and rats. The human-rat interface must be characterized for the presence of risk agents that may adversely affect human health. Notable examples of risks that are intrinsic to the rat are its potential to inflict bite or scratch wounds, transmit zoonotic diseases, and shed allergens. Risk modifiers intrinsic to the human are determined by an individual's general health, immune competence, existing allergies, propensity to develop new allergies, and technical competence in handling laboratory rats. There are extrinsic factors introduced at the interface inherent to the experimental paradigm that may include administration of carcinogens, toxins, biological hazards, viral gene therapy vectors, radioisotopes and/or physical hazards (for example, electricity and laser light). There are ergonomic hazards for animal care personnel associated with the repetitive movements executed when performing animal husbandry leading to carpal tunnel syndrome and/or back strain. The design of buildings, animal facilities and animal caging can be engineered to mitigate the exposure of personnel to some risks inherent to working with laboratory rats.

Minimizing risks during human-rat interactions requires an overall assessment of risk agents and risk modifiers. Risk assessment requires determining the source and nature of the risk to humans, the frequency and duration of human exposure, and the intensity of the exposure. Risk assessment examines engineering controls and operational practices for their ability to minimize aerosol exposure and to limit the contact of humans to risk agents. Occupational risk of exposure is associated with provision of animal husbandry, cage washing activity, colony management, veterinary care, facility management and research activities. A comprehensive occupational health and safety program implements adequate controls at a variety of levels: administrative, physical plant engineering and maintenance, animal husbandry equipment, personal protective equipment and periodic assessment of employee health. Additionally, consideration must be given to second-hand exposure to non-research personnel to risk agents because of their job requirements (for example, facilities maintenance personnel, housekeeping personnel, administrative personnel) or by association with coworkers that passively transfer hazards on their soiled clothing, hands and equipment. The dynamics of how various administrative areas in an institution interact as part of a comprehensive rodent exposure program can be found elsewhere (National Research Council, 1997). The purpose of this chapter is to cover many of the risk agents to consider during development of an occupational health and safety program in a research facility that uses laboratory rats. It should be noted, however, that at this point in time specific pathogen-free laboratory rats are used in the vast majority of research in rats. Therefore, concerns regarding zoonotic disease transmission are almost exclusively associated with studies of feral rat populations or research purposefully inoculating rats with known biohazardous agents.

Introduction

Laboratory mice and rats have always made up a large percentage of the total number of animals used for biomedical research purposes. This percentage is usually around 80–90% of the total number of animals used. For this reason, these species have been well-characterized in many ways. The use of the laboratory mouse (Mus musculus) has increased even more dramatically over the last decades, due to the possibility of studying gene function in vivo by the use of genetic modification techniques which have resulted in many newly established mouse strains.

The nutrition of the laboratory mouse (and rat) has also been well-studied and well-defined in comparison with that of other species (for an overview see [1]). This chapter concentrates on important aspects of feeding laboratory mice. One needs to be aware of how nutrition and feeding as an environmental factor can interact with experimental results and animal welfare when nutrition is not the main focus of study. Moreover, when the mouse is used as an animal model for human nutritional conditions, specific experimental conditions need to be taken care of. This is important in order to obtain reliable experimental results and optimal welfare of the animals simultaneously.

Laboratory rats used in toxicologic studies are kept under pathogen-free conditions and infectious agents should be absent. However, while the rats are kept under conventional conditions, infectious diseases may occur. Trichophyton spp. and Microsporum spp. dermatophytoses may infect rats. At the infected sites, alopecia, crusting, and dermatitis are seen, although most infections are subclinical. Dermatophytes are recognized as arthrospores and hyphae within the hair shafts of the infundibulum. Causative agents are readily stained with periodic acid Shiff (PAS). Rats are susceptible to Demodex infection The longitudinal mites are easily detected within the follicular infundibulum with perifollicular inflammation.

I. INTRODUCTION

Laboratory rats may serve as hosts for a wide variety of parasites. Although most of these infections are clinically silent, some may result in severe disease. At the least, infections may affect host physiology, and therefore serve as unwanted variables in research. Consequently, only rats free of parasitic infections are entirely suitable as research subjects. Fortunately, advances in animal husbandry have resulted in a dramatic decline in parasitic infections in laboratory rats. This is particularly true for parasites requiring multiple hosts for completion of the lifecycle. In fact, parasites other than pinworms are uncommonly found associated with rats in the modern vivarium. However, wild rats may at times gain access to and contaminate animal facilities, as well as feed and bedding storage areas. Also, animal care personnel may privately and unknowingly purchase pet rats infected with parasites. Thus, the laboratory animal professional should be aware of those parasites capable of infecting the laboratory rat. This chapter reviews those parasites that may be found infecting laboratory rats. The information has been arranged primarily according to organ system(s) involved, and secondarily by parasite phylogeny. Each parasite is presented with a brief morphologic description, lifecycle, pathobiology, diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and control.

Treatment of parasite infections deserves a special word of caution. It is well known that many drugs used to treat parasitic infections or infestations have themselves the potential to alter host physiology. In so doing, these drugs may compromise the usefulness of research animals, including rats. Fortunately, the decline in prevalence of parasitic infections in laboratory rats has been accompanied by a decline in the use of parasiticides. However, the discovery of parasitic infection in laboratory rats will require action. At times, parasites may be removed chemically without affecting the usefulness of rats as research subjects. At other times, the needs of the research study will preclude the use of parasiticides, and necessitate non-chemical methods of parasite elimination, such as cesarean rederivation. To determine whether parasiticides are safe to use in specific situations, the laboratory animal professional should be aware of the physiologic effects of commonly used anti-parasitic compounds. Relatively few such agents are used to treat rats. Among those in use, thiabendazole has nonimmunosuppressive anti-inflammatory properties in rodents (Van Arman et al., 1975). Levamisole has been used as a broad-spectrum anthelminthic in both human and veterinary medicine. It has been shown to have numerous in vivo and/or in vitro effects on rats or rat cells. These effects include superoxide scavenging (Schinetti et al., 1984). antagonism of gastric ulcers caused by necrotizing and anti-inflammatory agents (Evangelista et al., 1984), enhancement of gastrointestinal absorption of some compounds (Utsumi et al., 1987), inhibition of platelet aggregation (Pinto et al., 1990), upregulation of pyruvate dehydrogenase and glycogen synthase activity in rat adipose tissue (Thomaskutty et al., 1993; Basi et al., 1994), inhibition of skeletal tissue mineralization (Klein et al., 1993). inhibition of fibroblast collagen synthesis (de Waard et al., 1998), decreased post-surgical translocation of bacteria (Cetinkaya et al., 2002), immune stimulation (Trabert et al., 1976), and others. Fenbendazole causes far fewer effects. In rats, these appear to be limited to subtle changes in behavioral performance in young rats from dams fed fenbendazole during pregnancy (Barron et al., 2000), although other minor effects have been demonstrated in other species. Albendazole, another benzimidazole with anthelminthic properties, is embryotoxic in rats, induces drug-metabolizing enzymes in the liver (Souhaili-el Amri et al., 1988), and delays rat brain microtubule assembly (Solana et al., 1998). Lastly, ivermectin, a macrocyclic lactone disaccharide and member of the avermectin anthelminthic family, is not without its effects on rat physiology. This is important considering the common use of ivermectin in the treatment of parasitic infections in rats and other host species. In rats, ivermectin and doramectin, another avermectin, are known to possess anxiolytic effects (de Souza Spinosa et al., 2000, 2002). Still other members of the avermectin family may be selectively cytostatic against tumor cells (Driniaev et al., 2001). Lastly, the avermectins may cause developmental neurotoxicity in rats (Poul, 1988; Wise et al., 1997). Each of these reports highlight the potential for commonly used anthelminthics to alter host physiology.

Norbormide

Laboratory rats showed difficulties in locomotion and ataxia but no hind limb paralysis after treatment with norbormide. Death occurs within 15 min to 4 h after struggling, dyspnea, hypothermia, and convulsions. Oral lethal dose 50% (LD50) values for Norway rats ranged from 5.3 to 15 mg kg−1. Rodents other than rats have considerably higher oral LD50 values (e.g., hamster, 140 mg kg−1; guinea pigs, 300 mg kg−1; and mice, 1000–2250 mg kg−1). However, no effect was detected with 1000 mg kg−1 doses of norbormide in dogs, cats, monkey, sheep, pigs, chickens, mallard ducks, and prairie dogs. Interestingly, L-type voltage-dependent calcium channels in guinea pig heart were relatively selectively inhibited by norbormide in the sinoatrial and atrioventricular nodes, suggesting a possible therapeutic benefit for norbormide in treating supraventricular arrhythmias in heart failure.

This chapter presents the taxonomy of laboratory rat and discusses its stocks and strains. Rats are rodents, and thus members of the largest family of mammals. Approximately 1,325 living species of murid rodents have been described by now, the members of which are currently placed in 281 genera distributed among 17 subfamilies, and which include most of the familiar rats and mice. Stocks and strains of laboratory rat discussed in the chapter are outbred stocks and inbred strains including standard inbred strains, coisogenic and congenic strains, consomic strains, and recombinant inbred strains. A key feature of rat nomenclature is the laboratory registration code, whether it is for the definition of an outbred stock or an inbred strain. This code is usually three to four letters, and identifies a particular producing institute, laboratory, or investigator. Further, these codes are intended to identify outbred stocks and inbred strains, including congenic strains.

When laboratory rats are exposed to a high-intensity stressor, there are recurring alterations in cardiovascular and metabolic homeostasis. One such stressor that has been studied is immersion of laboratory rats in water maintained at 18 or 24 °C for 15 min per day for 27 consecutive days. When compared to controls exposed to swim stress for the first time, animals exposed to chronic intermittent swim stress had significantly greater elevations in plasma levels of NE and EPI. This sensitized response of the sympathetic-adrenal medullary system to chronic intermittent swim stress is dependent on stressor intensity (i.e., water temperature). In contrast, chronic intermittent swim stress in water at 30 °C results in habituated plasma catecholamine responses.

Developmental Neurotoxicity of Abused Drugs

Species Considerations

Laboratory rats (Rattus norvegicus) and mice (Mus musculus) are the most commonly used animals in developmental neurotoxicity studies involving drugs of abuse. Both species are relatively inexpensive, can be bred readily in the laboratory, and have a short gestation period and rapid postnatal development. Investigators using rats or mice can avail themselves of an enormous existing literature on fetal development, neuroanatomy, neurochemistry, molecular genetics, and behavioral characteristics of both the animals. Genetic engineering of mice affords an additional powerful tool to examine mechanisms of developmental neurotoxicity, although this approach has not yet been fully exploited by the field. Despite all the important advantages of using a rodent as opposed to a primate animal model, there are also a few disadvantages that should be kept in mind. First, as mentioned earlier, rodents are not as suitable as primates for testing higher cognitive functions. As Paule et al. (1990) have elegantly demonstrated, it is possible to design cognitive test batteries that directly probe the same functions in monkeys as in children, and such test batteries have been used to investigate the effects of prenatal exposure to drugs of abuse and other potential toxicants on cognitive function (Morris et al., 1996). Second, because development is so much more rapid in rodents than in humans, it is necessary to adopt an appropriate translational approach in selecting the period of drug administration for modeling human gestational exposure. Early methods for equating brain maturation in rodents (mainly rats) to that of humans relied primarily on neuroanatomical comparisons at specific points in fetal or postnatal development (Clancy et al., 2001, 2007a). However, Clancy et al. (2007b) have now developed a web-based neuroinformatics approach to the extrapolation of brain development across 10 different species: hamsters, mice, rats, rabbits, spiny mice, guinea pigs, ferrets, cats, rhesus monkeys, and humans. The computational algorithms use days post conception as the time measure, and separate extrapolations are provided for cortical development, limbic system development, and development of noncortical/nonlimbic brain areas. For example, 20 days post conception in mice (equivalent to roughly 1 day postpartum in this species) translates to approximately 124, 90, and 97 days post conception for the development of cortical, limbic, and noncortical/nonlimbic brain areas, respectively, in humans. Consequently, administering a drug of abuse to newborn mice can be expected to influence neurodevelopmental events that occur during the second trimester of human pregnancy.

I wasn't born perfect. My imperfections back then were: envious, childish, clueless, and most of all, gullible. But they modified me, made me into something better, something perfect. 

My name is Phoenix X. I am now renewed, there are no more imperfections to who I am. 

I have been training in the RAYA ever since I was 4 years old. They saw potential in me, something that made them want to use me and make me perfect. And they did. 

Ultimate Z, one of RAYA's most important agents, has asked me to come to his office. That's where I'm heading right now. He's the one who took me in, my hero. 

And while there are many people here on Earth, there are only a few of the perfects. Ultimate Z was the very first one in this new age. He's an amazing person. 

He's the type of person kids looked up to, including myself. In my 17 years on this planet, no one could compare to him. 

As I walked down the corridor of floor 80 of the RAYA's official headquarters, there is only one thing on my mind; success. 

"You asked for me, sir?" I said, opening the door after hearing the sensor beep. 

"Yes, come in, Phoenix X," He said from inside room 8090. "Sit down." 

I complied, sitting down on the chair in front of his desk, folding my hands and resting them on my thighs. 

"No slouching," He said curtly, and I straightened up right away. 

Okay, maybe I'm not that perfect yet. But there's always room for improvement. 

"I have a mission for you. Easy, simple, but you need to be precise and follow all the rules in this book," He said, sliding a thin book, about 15 pages, across the table to me. The cover page read 'Mission 505 PXAQ'. 

"Sir?" I called. The name of the mission gave it all away. 505 was the code for an undercover mission and PX stands for Phoenix X and AQ for Alpha Q. The previous Alpha Q died in a mission so this person would be new. Why would I need a partner? 

"Yes?" He looked up from a folder that briefly read 'Mission 9932 UZUA'. Recruitment, Ultimate Z, Ultimate A. 

"Am I getting a partner for this mission?" I asked. 

Ultimate Z nodded, "Yes. I thought that was clear." 

"It is, sir. Am I dismissed?" 

"Yes, your partner would be in room 2114," He said, gesturing out the door. I can see that he's busy right now to talk so I left him alone and left. 

As I stood on the elevator, I skimmed through the book. The first page tells us briefly what we should do. On the next pages are steps and Plan Bs, Cs, Ds, you get the idea. 

"Floor 67," RAYA's voice rang through the system as the elevator came to a halt and Rogue F came in. 

"Phoenix X," He greeted with a nod. 

"Rogue F," I said back. 

I felt him glance at the papers in by hand and up to my face. 

"New mission?" He asked. I suddenly felt relieved that the cover page of the book wasn't facing him. Mission details are classified unless the Ultimates gave orders. 

"Yes." 

He opened his mouth to say something then but the elevator stopped as soon as he did. 

"Floor 21." 

Without sparing him a second glance or a goodbye, I walked out of the elevator and onto floor 21. 

"Room...2114," I whispered to myself, finally arriving in front of Alpha Q's room. The sensor beeped and RAYA's voice rang out. 

"Alpha Q is currently unavailable at the moment, please try again later." 

"This is Phoenix X requesting to speak with Alpha Q," I said monotonously. 

"Request denied." 

"Reason?" 

"Alpha Q is, reportedly, busy at the moment." 

"RAYA, let me see them." 

"Request denied." 

"Reason?" 

"You just don't give up, do you?" RAYA's voice was replaced by a male's, Alpha Q. 

"No, I don't." 

The titanium door slid open, revealing him wearing Alpha's training uniform. Alpha's beginner training uniform. 

"I am Phoenix X, your partner for Mission 505 PXAQ," I introduced myself. 

As soon as I saw him, I know what he's like. A part of our training is to analyze people. And I can see that he's a perfect-born. 

"Alpha Q," He stuck his hand out. He's serious, uptight. 

I took his hand, smiling at him while studying him, but he doesn't need to know that. 

"We leave at 6," I stated, then left.

"Alright, listen up!" was what I heard when I walked in the recruits training. Salva G, a friend of mine, was training the recruits. 

I leaned against the wall, watching her speak. 

"I want all of you in a line with your assigned mentors," She commanded. Seeing everyone followed, she continued to speak. 

"Alphas are leaders. Betas are second in command. Charlies help with drugs, medicine. Deacons help to send messages. Eagles are snipers. Foxtrots cover disguises, costumes. Genesis agents assign missions. Hypes help to keep classified information out of the public's knowledge. Imbues are doctors. Jonas agents supervise the missions. Killjoys are also known as assassins. Lacis agents specialize in networking and hacking." 

Salva G walks across the field while talking, meeting the newcomers' eyes, taunting them. Hilarious. 

"Magnum agents are sent ahead before an undercover mission to get information. Neos come up with plans. Orions pick the recruits and choose which type of agent they are. Phoenix agents specialize in spy missions. Quinton are royalty or governors who are also agents. Rouges take on solo missions. Salvas are trainers. Torques are weapon masters." 

My mind took me back to the end of the year 2020, when the RAYA started recruitment. I was one of the first and youngest here. My parents died in the middle of the year and they took me in. 

"Ultimate is the highest position here, there are none among you. Volts work with electricity. Willows fix the damage that has been caused. Xenon, chemicals. Yttria, you are transportation and safeguards. Zany, you are the distractions. Any questions?" 

I left the room to my next destination. Room 4486, Foxtrot K, he's assigned to help Alpha Q and me for the mission. 

"Hey, PX!," He greeted me. Did I mention that we're the best of friends? 

"Hey, FK. Do you have it?" I asked. 

He put up a finger and turned around, walking into his disguise closet. Foxtrot K turned around holding a black bag that I assumed had my disguise inside. 

"Thanks, FK," I was about to turn around when I heard him calling out my name. 

"For your partner," FK said, giving me another bag. 

I smiled, "Thanks." 

Walking back to the elevator, I caught sight of room 4415, a room that brought back many memories that shouldn't be spoken of. A shudder crept up my spine as the memories flashed. 

"Just walk away," I reminded myself, urging my feet to move. 

Everything's going good, nothing from my past is allowed to bring me down now.

In a renewed world where humans are modified to perfection, Phoenix X, a modified agent of the RAYA, is paired with newcomer, perfect-born, Alpha Q on a simple undercover mission.

What would happen when they uncover more than they should know?



I stepped onto the river banking, thankful that I always keep a pair of flats in my handbag. I walked over to the yellow tape. Everything was already cleaned up, just a few agents and individuals from their forensic lab doing a final sweep. 

" Why did you want to come here?" Farhad asked. Honestly, I was hoping to see or feel something that could help me figure out what was happening. 

" Why did you come here?" I asked her knowing that I was somewhat pissing her off. 

" For evidence, all the evidence in your expertise is being sent to the Athanasius ." She said, stepping up beside me. I could feel her reddish-brown irises focusing on me, and I turned to meet her gaze, looking her over. She had sharp features, a slender face that came to an end with a round chin. Cheekbones that could cut and eyebrows were thick but well-groomed, pink lips that stood out on her tan skin with small but somewhat noticeable beauty spots. She was nothing short of gorgeous; she had features that some would describe a classical woman. If she got tired of the whole FBI thing, she could definitely succeed in the modeling industry; they would eat up her rare but beautiful features. 

" Well, I'm here for evidence too, not just the physical stuff, sometimes you just have o get a feel of the scene," I said, hoping she would drop it. I should have known better. 

" You came here for a feel of the scene?" She questioned with nothing but shock on her face. I sighed; working with her is going to be a struggle. 

" Yes, you have your own way of working, and so do I," I said before walking away; I wasn't picking up anything. Not sure if it's because I am still on edge about my book involvement or because of Agent Grumpy. 

" You're rather derelict." She said as she caught up to me. I stopped dead in my tracts, and I blinked a couple of times, trying to process what she said and how I should tell her to fuck off in a beautiful way. 

" Look, Farhad, if we are going to work together for this case, I need you to understand that I have my methods and respect that," I said and continued walking before stopping and turning to her again. " I'm not only of the best forensic anthropologists in the Athanasius but the entire region by being negligent. I haven't had to refuse several FBI agents because they think I'm derelict; you wanna what I do, go and ask your colleagues." I said and walked away from the river and stunned the agent. 

She has some nerve; I thought as I slammed my SUV door. I drove away from the crime scene and headed straight to the Museum. 

" When did we start taking consultations?" Sage said as I entered my office, Sage and I have been friends since I first started working here. She helped me with my first ever consultation, and she also helped me when they began to become taxing. Sage's the only person that knows me, other than Kal. She thought I was crazy the first time I told her I could see and communicate with the dead, until I basically prevented her from dying since then; we've been inseparable; at one point, I thought Kal got jealous. 

" Since my book was involved in a murder," I said and watched the look of her horror that appeared on her face," that and the killer only left behind a freaking skeleton," I groaned as the various FBI agents walked in with a few museum technicians. 

" Well, that's shitty." She said, and I nodded. I watched the exchange between the agents and the technicians and started to get ready when I realized the agents were wrapping up. I dragged my coat over my body and slipped on some gloves, and got to work. 

I looked at the skull on my examination table. The bastard really wanted us to work. He removed the teeth of the victim so that identification will be a bitch. 

" Send it over when your finish," Sage said before entering her workspace. I gave her a thumbs up then got to work. 

" Base on skull structure, it belongs to a human, due to the ossification of the fontanels the victim is estimated to be around 18-20 years old. Skull structure is that of a female". I said into my voice recorder. I opened the skull's mouth and saw antemortem scarring where the teeth used to be, fucking bastard removed her teeth before she died. 

" Antemortem scaring in the mouth indicates that the teeth were removed before the victim died." I recorded. I sighed, this didn't happen in my book, the left behind the skull, but it had all its parts. No words were carved into it. The only thing that ties this crime to my book is that the killer cut it into the skull and that, well, a skull was left close to a water body. Even though I repeatedly told myself that this wasn't my fault, that I didn't kill that girl. I can't help but feel some blame. Maybe if I didn't write the book, this wouldn't have happened; maybe if I didn't write such cruel and vivid scenes, that girl wouldn't have endured the pain she possibly felt. I can't help but feel responsible for her death like I pulled her teeth and carved those words into her skull. I can't help but feel like her murder.

I groaned and slouched over and gripped my knees; sweat ran from my hairline to my eyes and lips. I slowly fixed my posture to get ready for my cool down when I heard my doorbell ring. I groaned and paused my workout video, and made my way to the door. I opened the door angrily, not in the mood to be bothered but came face to face with no one. It was probably just one of my neighbors' children being bored and stupid; I moved to close the door when something at my feet caught my eye. I squatted and came face-to-face with a "floral" arrangement, a clear vase with bones attached to mimic various flowers' appearance. 

I looked up and down my hall again, hoping no one could witness this, especially a child. Like how do you explain this? I quickly ran inside, grabbed some paper towels and picked up the vase; using them; I kicked my door shut and made my way over to my island. I gently place it down, not wanting to shift anything. 

" What if that had a bomb?" Kal questioned. I ignored her, not in the mood to talk to her after what transpired today. 

" You're still not talking to me?" She questioned, and my answer was me walking away from her and grabbing my phone. I heard her groan and mumbled something about me being a bitch. 

" Agent Farhad," She answered the phone. I stared back at my "flowers" and started to panic. 

" Kole!" She yelled, snapping me out of my thoughts. I took a deep breath, trying to steady my breathing and a racing heart. 

" You need to come to my apartment, bring forensics," was all I could say before hanging up. I slid down the back of my couch, my cool down long forgotten. It knows where I live, whoever-whatever is out there knows where I live. That's how my book came into play; they weren't trying to mimic it. They had one goal, and that was me, to get my attention; well, they definitely succeeded.

I wasn't supposed to be here, and I'm reminded daily by the shadows that lurk around. I lived my life trying to ignore them and the horrors they tend to bring, but that proved difficult with each passing day. I yearned for a healthy life growing up, I still sometimes do. Some would say what I have is a gift,  sure one I would like to return. It's not fun being able to see the dead, I know television and books make it sound like a goddamn superpower, but I'm here to tell you that it's a fucking  burden.  One that literally sucks all life and energy from you isolates you and keeps you from having simple things in life, like a friend or a family. I hate this curse and all that it brings. It's hard to be happy and alive when you're surrounded by the dead.

Time flew by and it was September* 2nd, the day of the premiere of E.T.  The Universal Pictures through a grand premiere for E.T. Unlike the previous time, the E.T this time is a best selling book and had a lot if fan base. Top it off the Author of this book is not only the screen writer but also played a important role in the film which attracted a lot of people specially the children.

The premiere will held in 7 in the evening for special consideration of the children in the famous Chinese theater. A surprising number audience can be seen including a lot of kids.   As celebrities stepped onto the red carpet, the click of the camera shutter became a piece of information. At the same time, fans cheered and reporters asked questions. , The clamor of the paparazzi, also disturbed one after another. 
Putting down the camera in his hand, Drek Williams breathed a sigh of relief for the time being. He is a reporter for the entertainment edition of the Los Angeles Times and he is used to seeing all kinds of big scenes. if not for Universal pictures invitation, or the film is adaptation of a popular best seller book or the gimmick that the author of the book is the actor it is difficult for him to be dispatched in person.
"Drek, is  Universal deliberately hyping?" his assistant asked at this time, 
"A 7 year old is both the screen writer and the actor of movie? Is this possible, I don't  even believe a kid can writer a book much less a screen play, a unless he is alien."

"Don't you think   Universal is a fool. Even they will not willfully fool audience unless they are crazy. So, it must be fact. "
"Hey, They are here, it should be them!" some paparazzi shouted.

A family of three are walking on the red carpet. A man wearing a black suit while the lady is wearing a silky black&white gown and the boy in middle wearing a  three piece black suit.
Richard have faced many red carpets last life but no like a main character which is making excited and nervous. despite his nervousness and excitement in his heart, he managed to calm down and finally started smiling while walking the red carpet.
"Mr Richard Jackson, this should be your first book turned to a film. How do you feel.?" 
"Mr Richard Jackson it should be your first time acting, can you tell us some of your feelings?"

When they came to the reporter area, various questions came over, but as previously planned they didn't mean to answer, and ignored those shouting, they walked directly to the front of the theater. 
"Hey Steven, how are you" Richard took the initiative to socialize seeing Steven Spielberg in front.
"Hey Richard... How do you feel." replied Steven smiling.
"Well to tell the truth, I don't know what I feel right now. But I can say that its definitely better than making it." answered Richard mischievously well nodding his head as if he is making a point.

The men in front of Richard laughed out load hearing him.
"Oh Richard don't ever change. By the way this is Francis Coppola, Martin Scorsese and George Lucas."
"Hello everyone. its nice to meet you all. But look at the time, show is about to start, so lets get going then." said Richard looking at his watch.
Getting confirmation from everyone went in took their respective seats. The light turned off and he screen started to lit up. the logos of Amblin and Universal came one after another and the movie started.
One starry night in suburban California, a group of alien botanists' trip to Earth is interrupted by a shady team of federal agents. In their hurry to vacate, the aliens accidentally leave one of their own behind, a little alien called E.T.
Later, a boy named Elliott hears strange noises in his backyard and almost literally stumbles across E.T. Naturally, he's stoked. The problem is, nobody believes him—not his older brother, Michael; not his younger sister, Gertie; not his mother, Mary, who's raising Elliott and his siblings on her own.
Elliott tries to lure E.T. back to his house using Reese's Pieces...and it works.
He hides E.T. in his closet, and then introduces him to Michael and Gertie. Elliott swears both to secrecy. Meanwhile, the menacing federal agents are still hot on E.T.'s interplanetary trail 
During this moment many audience laughed due to those weird noises. 

As the kids get to know E.T., they discover that he has special powers such as he can make items like balls and bikes levitate, and he also resurrected some dead geraniums. He also seems to share a special bond with Elliott, and Elliott feels it, too. 
In fact, Elliott feels everything E.T. feels.
Gertie teaches E.T. to speak, and he tells her and Elliott that he wants to call home. He hasn't been feeling so well lately and needs to return to his home planet. Elliott and Michael help him gather parts to build a communicator. The sinister federal agents get closer, E.T. gets sicker, and when Elliott cuts his finger, E.T. quickly mends it with his healing touch.
On Halloween, Elliott and Michael sneak E.T. into the forest so he can call home. The next morning, Elliott wakes up alone and sick. 
E.T. is gone. 
Michael later finds E.T. severely weak and lying face down in a creek bed. Michael brings him home, and E.T. is finally introduced to Mom...just before the federal agents and their team of doctors storm the house.
The doctors set up shop and run a battery of tests on E.T. As he gets sicker, Elliott gets better. 
E.T. crashes. 
At that many held their breath.
But when Elliott tells E.T. he loves him, E.T. awakens...
This time many shed their tears.
the plan to return E.T. to his home planet is back on. 
Elliott, Michael, and Michael's three friends race E.T. back to the woods on their bikes, arriving just in time to meet the aliens' spaceship. After heartfelt goodbyes all around, E.T. returns to the ship and it departs, leaving a rainbow across the sky.
When the screen turn black all the audience stood up clapped hard. They clapped, made noise talked excitedly all in all the movie was well received. The entire film crew sigh in relief, all is left is the  box office performance.

Roman, who had once called himself "Homeless Billionaire" was actually a son of a noble family, whose wealth was worth over 5 trillion MWD.
After the diamond price plummeted, Roman did like what Misha had asked her grandmother to do, stocking diamonds.
Roman thought that once LHO was appreciated by players from the Milky Way Galaxy, the price of diamonds would increase naturally. Therefore, he went all-in, investing in the game currency.
When Roman bought all his diamonds, the price dropped to 200,000 MWD each, and its value continued decreasing. Yet, Roman had bought 1,000,000 diamonds with all of his pocket money as an investment.
Unfortunately, the price did not show a sign of increasing after Roman bought his diamonds. As the Milky Way Government had hoard a hundred million diamonds, the puny amount of 1,000,000 diamonds did not influence the market.
His heart ached when he saw the value of diamonds decreasing each hour. Still, he knew that his decision was not wrong since any VRMMO game could turn into a new haven for immortal seekers, the virtual world residency. Everybody would need diamonds to buy their immortality and perks to migrate their souls into the game.
Also, Roman discovered one of the diamond's usage when he completed a quest from his Parthenon.
The Human God statue in his Parthenon sold EXP books that could be bought once a month, which had a price tag of 10 diamonds at the lowest. Each book could increase a player's EXP by a thousand, ten thousand, a hundred thousand, and a million!
This was a shop that pay-to-win players could shine!
Roman dumped 100,000 diamonds on a million EXP book right away. Although his human race had a level cap of 100 and the total EXP requirement from level 1 to 100 was 495,000, he used the EXP book anyway.
Now his level jumped from 20 to 100, which reached the cap of the newbie class. Furthermore, he retained the excessed EXP for future usages.
Roman looked at his ranking in the leaderboard with a wide smile.
"Once I spread this information, I can make the diamond price jump. Too bad, I have to waste 100,000 diamonds to reach the level cap, but I get all the footage I need."
He turned to social media, which was in an uproar because of his sudden level increase.
With his certified account, he uploaded his footage about the existence of the EXP book shop. Now, he waited for the diamond price to increase.
As he was monitoring the diamond price, he ignored the news broadcasting, which became background noise in his room.

Milky Way Government agents and insiders were busy trying to boost the diamond price in the market, so they could sell theirs for more money to salvage their financial crisis. The best way to increase the diamond price was to increase the game's reputation and encourage citizens to migrate their souls there.
In the process of promoting, agents from the government had to gather information in Lilith's new game, so they could get a clear picture of what world they could migrate into.
However, all MWG agents did not dare to risk logging into the game because of Lilith's new regulation.
Many agents attempted to get into the game to gather information about the casual server that they had no knowledge about it. However, 99% of the agents were sent to the hardcore server and lost communication with them. No one could contact them or receive a report from the players.
Furthermore, all VRMMO mining companies also filed about their missing people whom they had sent to explore and mine in the hardcore server.
No one who had logged into the hardcore server managed to return!
The game companies could not peek into the casual server either as they had lost control of all games.
There had been reports of missing agents who were once LHO alpha-testers during the exploration phase. Some of them were reported that they were teleported in front of their colleagues and disappeared.
That happened in their real dimension, not in any game!
Lilith kept mocking the game companies when MWG tried to use the administrator's commands or asked her what had happened.

"Let them invest in that while we grind our level normally. If they want to pay billions of dollars for a level 100 character, let them be."
"Did Misha and others buy the EXP books as well? Is that how their level shoots so fast?"
"^I doubt it. From the footage, you can only buy one skill book once a month in-game. Her level only increases by 2-3 per tick. That's the result of her power-leveling."
"Wow, so Misha is a good player while Roman is a PTW?"

The diamond price rose to 205,000 each for a moment before they dropped to 180,000 because the government continued releasing their diamonds.

Upon the value dropping to 180,000 MWD to one diamond, he heaved a sigh of relief.

He laughed as he logged out of the game to receive a mysterious phone call, which disclosed their number as [Classified].
"Donovan's speaking."
[This is Joan. Are you free to talk?]
"Yeah, if you're going to give me a good job or you're going to ask me for a date."
[I'll pick the first option. I have a job for you.]
"A pity. I hope it's worth my time, 'cause I'm busy enjoying my retirement gaming."
[It relates to the game you're playing. I heard that you're the top ranker again. Is that true?]
"Top 3. Misha and that PTW player got me. What's the job?"
[We're hoping that you can promote the diamond price. Can you spread the words that you've become a top ranker by spending diamonds? We'll compensate for your lost reputation.]
"You're asking me to humiliate myself of being a PTW player?"
[You're already a PTW player. You have VIP10 from us, so do Misha and Roman.]
"You can just tell the universe that we have VIP10 by spending 20,000 diamonds. That should promote your diamond a bit, right?"
[We've already done that, but it'll be more effective if your certified social media account is the one that spread this info.]
"I'll see what I can do. By the way, I want my form of payment with spaceships. I have enough MWD."

They hung up.
Dove sighed. He had a good idea of what he could do to promote the current diamond prices, but he would not do it without reaping some profits.
'Time to restock diamonds before I start promoting.'
Without waiting for the price to lower, Dove exchanged one billion MWD into diamonds.

Grandmother Min also monitored the diamond market ever since Misha wanted to dip her hand into this exchange business. The grandmother, too, interested in the sinking price of the current diamond market.
Unlike Misha, Grandmother Min's had 5 trillion MWD remaining in cash, storing in one of her spaceships, preventing the government from freezing her money in the system.
As a [Special] player in this dimension, she had more than one way to play this investing game.
Min opened her game menu and contacted Lilith.

"Can I contact Mia?"

"Then, are you trying to create some kind of event? Why are you trying to crash the MWG's economy?"

Although he could access social media and universe-net, he could not communicate with them since Lilith put a [Read-Only] restriction on his browsers. 
Upon having nothing else about Misha to read, Mia closed all monitors and leaned on his throne.
'At least, she is doing well.'
Mia shut his eyes to take a nap.
As he was napping, he ignored the beeping notification about the hardcore server's players.
