   The sun, the stars, the moon, none of their light was able to reach the world. For the first time in centuries, no external light shone down. For the first time in centuries, Maker grew annoyed. She stood on the other side of the barrier and gathered her mana. Her radiance condensed into a ball the size of her fist. It rushed forward, battering against the barrier only to send a few calm ripples across it. She frowned and held up her hand. Two of her children appeared behind her. The goddess of good and the god of evil both kneeled down. All thoughts of battle were put out of their heads when their parent was angry. "That man…" Maker mumbled. "I thought we destroyed everything." She struck the barrier one last time then turned to face her children. "You both know what this means, right?"
   "Yes ma'am," said the god of evil.
   "Yes mother," said the goddess of good.
   "Then you will both need to separate." She pointed to the central landmass. "When the barrier dissolves, I'll search the main continent while you two get the east and west. I want him or whatever legacy he left behind destroyed." The two children nodded and tried to help pass the barrier ahead of time only to be pushed back. "I guess we have to wait." Maker summoned a chair and sat down. "Even after so much time he continues to be a thorn in my side."
…
   Doevm was pulled forward, crashing him and Horse into the ground in a dark room. As he got up the doors slammed close. An enormous lock made of an unknown material barred the door. Doevm held his leg, expecting pain to rise up, but it never came. The wound on his leg was healed. He stretched his limb out a couple times to find it was fine. After standing up on it, it was verified he was completely healed. Horse, on the other hand, vaporized. The mental connection was severed.
   'This is either a holy shrine or a sort of safehouse from another race,' Doevm thought. He tried to use his magic to see, but it was blocked. He tried again yet nothing happened.
   As if acting for him, a blinding blue light flooded the surroundings. After his eyes adjusted, he saw the source of the light was a transparent pillar. Inside were masses of blue energy flying around like a tornado. One after another, more pillars lit up on his left and right going down a long hallway. The way back was blocked, so he walked forward on the faded velvet carpet. Massive holes had been ripped in it. Besides the carpet, the floor was made of Ploly (Pl-ole) bricks.
   While the roof forty feet above him was made up of thousands of shining mana crystals, the walls of steel and aluminum to reflect the light, Ploly bricks were unexpected. 'Did the construction crew run out of money half-way through this project?' Doevm thought as he picked one up. Ploly bricks were famously useless. Their melting point was of dirt. They were so soft that one could crush them in their palms. Even Doevm had a hard time believing it was that useless. He had spent a year examining them only to find out they truly were garbage. Yet, despite his failure to find anything useful about Ploly, he knew they were useful for something. It was a material no one knew the origin of. If one used alchemy to split it into its original state, it would not turn into any other base elements. It was its own dark brown material.
   For a few minutes he walked until he got to the edge of the ruins. On the back wall constructed out of pure Ploly bricks were more hieroglyphics that read: "She is watching always. She is watching always. She is watching always. She is watching always." Over and over again. It filled the wall. As he continued to read, the hieroglyphs got more hurried and sloppier. By the end, it was illegible. Embedded into the center was a single book with a dark grey leather cover. The title read: "The game of the Gods, by Maximus Draken".
One hundred and fifteen years ago…
   Arthur walked straight past the two Undead knights guarding the library and into the throne room. "Doevm, are you ready for this week's session?" He took off his gauntlets and leaned his sword against the wall. He made sure not to get close to the bookshelves as this Lich would always get angry whenever his stuff was touched without permission.
   Doevm was in his half-destroyed throne hunched over a book. His skeletal head turned up to meet his instructor. "You're early." He shut the book and handed it to one of his Undead minions. "I guess that means we can spar for longer today." He rolled up the sleeves of his black cloak.
   "You know, I always see you reading the same book, why is that?" Arthur asked.
   "That's unusual," Doevm chuckled. "You interested in a book? What interests you about it?" He motioned for the servant to return. He plucked the book out of its hands and opened it once more.
   "Not just the one." Arthur walked shoulder to shoulder with him. "You mostly read books by the same author, Maximus Draken." He pointed to the signature. "The capital of the Acrin Kingdom is also Draken. What's he so famous for?"
   "That depends." Doevm held the book away from Arthur, afraid that his rough hands would damage the old book. "If you ask humans, they say he was the first hero. If you ask demons, he was the greatest magician. If you ask me, he was a great philosopher." A dozen servants came into the library and bowed with books presented. "Each of these is his work. His theories about mana are fascinating. They've kept me busy for a half a century now, testing each one of them. The most interesting thing about him, however, is that everyone is wrong about him."
   "You mean, he wasn't smart at all?"
   "No, not that." Doevm nearly hit his friend with the book, but that would most likely damage the book more than the hero's thick skull. "No one knows why he was so prominent. He was able to do so many things in his lifetime. It was like he was great at everything. Combat, magic, thinking, building, he did everything. His tombs can still be found around the world, hidden from the public's eyes. When he was at the height of his power, he lost his magic. He was unable to even see it. The kingdom that he built up was taken over. Many of his books were labeled as hearsay and destroyed. No matter how much I find about him, there is no answer to what he actually did to get so strong and who made him crumble. His family was unknown. He had no heirs. Only his accomplishments are known."
   "Sounds harsh." Arthur looked at the rest of the books. "They seem to be getting darker                 as they go. Did you notice that?"
   "What do you mean, the content? There are only a few copies in the world so how could you have read them?" Doevm closed the book.
   "Look at this one." Arthur forcefully yanked the book out of Doevm's skeletal hands. "This is volume one and it is bound in white leather." He picked up the next volume before Doevm could snatch his book back. "This one has a slightly darker cover and its volume two."
   "Ok I get it, now put the books down before I have to kill you." Lightning cackled around his hands. Arthur shrugged and put the books back as dramatically and gently as he could. "It could be because they are getting older or just a coincidence." His blue flame eyes inspected each book. The limit of his collection was at grey. "This means there might be more…" He picked up the last book and mumbled to himself, "That means his theories continue. From the latest volume I was able to invent light magic. What happens if I get my hands on the latest volumes?" He put them back down and shooed his servants away. "I'll investigate this matter later. Our time is limited. Let's spar." He went for a quick jab. Arthur ducked. "This is for touching my stuff!" He executed a combination attack against air.
   Arthur got into a stance: "I am going to touch e-ve-ry-thing after I win."
Back to the present…
   The book was a trap. It had to be a trap. Doevm knew deep in his heart that such an elaborate hallway was just to make him more impatient. His magic was sealed, and he had no idea as to why. Since there was no exit to this place, only the book, it was obvious that picking up the book was what the maker of this ruin intended. He grabbed the book and opened to the first page. Right on cue, a trap activated. A soft repeating clinking went down the hallway. The pillars cracked. The blue swirling mist burst out and rushed toward Doevm, who was zoned out. His eyes were glued to the first line: "Instruction for basic soul magic."

"Screw magic, I want to learn how to do cool flips and stuff." Magic is awesome, until you've studied it for centuries. Doevm reincarnates into a human to experience the path of a fighter to its fullest and swears not to rely on magic. There is only one problem, a goddess stands in his way. She pits him against both the hero and the villain for all of eternity. How will he escape this, with magic or his fists? "Stupid game!" Liu Fu Jie shouted in annoyance as he smashed the keyboard onto his desk. This was the country's best professional gamer in his natural habitat.
"Brother Jie! You have to win!" A loud voice sprang from the other side of the headset.
"This is bullsh*t! This game is rigged!" Fu Jie responded, "Why do I have to win?!"
"Don't forget about the prize. I'm 99% sure it's that armor you always wanted."
"Damn it all! I'm going straight in. Cover me" Fu Jie cracked his knuckles and stretched his head towards the left and then towards the right before immersing himself in the game.
"Roger that!"

They raided the town hall, fought the demon boss and lost, built a troop, and fought the boss again. Won and backstabbed the troop, robbed the troop and ran away, eradicated the small NPC's, and leveled up. Joined a new troop and upgraded their armor. Fought the final boss, won, robbed, and killed the troop.

After another one hour and 30 minutes of hard work, Fu Jie sighed and stretched his sore hands, it hurt but it was worth it. His forehead was completely covered in sweat, but at least he won. That was the only thing that mattered right now: He won!

"Big bro... You won..." The boy on the other side seemed to have not been able to believe it but a second passed and the shock turned into joy as he exclaimed, "You won!"
"Who am I?" Fu Jie responded with a question, filled with pride.
"The great mo indeed!"

Yet another victory for the great mo.

The great mo[1] was the user name of the current superstar of the gaming world. The rich, handsome, and talented professional gamer, Liu Fu Jie, who had it all. If there was one thing he lacked though, it was manners.

"Now get lost! You useless f****r" Fu Jie replied before abruptly cutting off the connection.
A notification popped up on the computer screen, [Congratulations!! Player 19061, username: the great mo. You have won first place in this month's Super-sky event hosted by us. We are glad to inform you that you are now entitled to the grand flame sword and the special prize promised beforehand. The special prize would be sent to your address within the next 3-4 weeks. Hope you have a nice day. Well wishes from the Crimson Sky team (: ]
"...." Fu Jie clenched his fist as he read through the automated message, anger boiling inside of him. "F**k this sh*t!! Where's my motherf***ing gear?!" the perfectly fine keyboard was smashed against the desk once again, shattering into multiple pieces this time. 
Before he could destroy the computer screen as well, his phone rang and at the same time, somebody knocked on his door.
"Who the hell is this?!" Fu Jie answered the phone rudely.
"Young Master, your father wants you at dinner tonight. I had already sent a bodyguard over to escort you." The voice of a middle-aged man came through, calm, and composed as if already used to the young man's rudeness.
"Tell him I can't make it. I have more important stuff to do."
"Sir, your schedule for today is empty."
"It's filled!"
"Young master, I checked. It's empty." The man on the other side of the call spoke, "You have nothing better to do today."
"Tch- Stalker," Fu Jie immediately cut the call without bothering to respond.
Annoying. It was all annoying!
Today wasn't going as planned.
His phone dinged with an incoming text: 'your presence at dinner is mandatory.'
He ignored the message and proceeded to play crimson sky, getting ready to purchase the new royal red armor costing 199 USD, a limited edition, in-game purchase. He clicked on the confirm purchase button without a second thought but his purchase could not be completed as a continuous error showed up on the screen.
Ding, He received another text message: 'your credit card has already been suspended.'

"Damn!" Fu Jie cursed as he saw the awful message.

Quietly sitting at the awkward dining table, dressed in a formal white suit, Liu Fu Jie couldn't help but feel uncomfortable. In his mind, he wished for this night to end quickly and to leave this place peacefully but contrary to his wishes, his father spoke up, "Your brother is joining us tonight."
"What do you mean?" his face twisted in disgust as he heard his father.
"He has been abroad for far too long, it's time that he came back and learned how to manage the company." His step-mother commented from the side with a fake smile.
"Why wasn't I informed?" Fu Jie asked as he tried his hardest to hold back his anger.
"For what reason should you be informed? So you could run away again?" his father asked as he glared at him.
"Do you have to push me like this? Do you enjoy tormenting your son?!" Fu Jie raised his voice in anger.
"I really do enjoy it! I have tried to straighten you out so many times but you still want to act like a child and play around in your computer all day." His father put down the fork he was holding as he shouted at Fu Jie, "you have been nothing but a disappointment to me. Why should I be mindful of your feelings?"
"Playing around? That's my job!! I am a professional gamer, I get paid for it! When are you going to understand that?!"
"Paid? The monthly pocket money I give you is ten times more than what you make in a year with that pathetic job of yours."
Fu Jie scoffed as he heard his father, "it's all about money with you, isn't it? I'm doing what I love and I cannot sit here and listen to you degrading my job like this."
"You have absolutely no right to raise your voice against me, young man." His father yelled and at the same time, the door opened and another young boy around the age of nineteen entered the room.
"Dad..." the boy spoke.
"Look at your brother and learn something. At such a young age, he brings value to the company, how could you even compare?"
"That's right! I'm not worthy of being your son, so you can just take that boy and replace me with him like you always do." Fu Jie abruptly stood up and walked away, forcefully bumping against the young boy on his way out. Just one step away from the door, he heard his father's voice, "I'm selling that apartment of yours, move back into the main house by next week."
Fu Jie slammed the door behind him as he heard this and strode down the hallway of the luxurious hotel.
Instead of going back home, he decided to go to one of his online friend's house for the next few weeks and after a few sleepless nights of gaming, he was exhausted enough to forget all about the issues concerning his father.
After two weeks, he decided to go back to his apartment and rest, only to realize that his apartment had been emptied inside-out, ready to be sold. Only a box was left behind in front of the apartment. He picked up the box and read the label pasted on it. It was sent from the headquarters of the crimson sky game, probably containing the special prize he had completely forgotten about.
"Damn! I'm still mad at them for fooling me." He spoke to no one in particular.
He went inside the apartment and opened the package. Thankfully, the passcode of the apartment had not been changed yet.
Inside the box was a single book, carefully packed like a treasure.
"I'm going to sue the entire crimson sky company! Are they scamming me?!" he threw the book aside and picked up his phone to call the number that was given on the label of the package belonging to the sender.
"Hello! You have reached the crimson sky helpdesk. How may I help you?" A sweet female voice answered the phone.
"F**k you people." Fu Jie cursed without discrimination. "Are you kidding me? Not only did I not get my crimson gear but you send me a book?! This is fraud! You're messing with me!!"
"Ah...calm down sir. Can you please explain the situation?" The girl asked.
"I'm the great mo, this month's winner of the super-sky event. Do you still not understand?"
"The great mo? Oh! I know you, sir. You were the one who won the special prize!" The girl spoke in a delighted tone.
"What f***ing special prize?! You guys lied to me!! Where's my crimson gear??"
"Calm down sir. The crimson gear can only be attained by completing the final level of our game. There's no other way to get it."
"Do you think I'm a fool? You people promised a one of a kind special prize, the crimson gear and now you have the face to go back on your words?!"
"Sir, we said no such thing. We promised a special prize but did not elaborate on what that was. Are you unsatisfied with the prize somehow?"
"Unsatisfied?! Should I be satisfied then? I spent hours playing that game just to win that crimson gear, I am beyond unsatisfied."
"Sir, this has nothing to do with us. We gave you what we promised. It is your own fault for assuming that the special prize was going to be the crimson gear."
"What type of sh*tty management is this?! Who gives a book as a special prize for winning a game?!"
"Sir, the prize is indeed a one-of-a-kind treasure that was organized by the maker of crimson sky directly. We did not lie to you in any way."
"Your maker? Who the f**k is that sh*t head?! I want to talk to him!!"
"Sir, I'm afraid we cannot let that happen."
"Why the hell not?! Do you know who I am?!"
"Sir, it doesn't matter who you are, you still can't meet our maker."
"Why? Is that f**ker dead or what?!"
"Not dead but you still can't."
"I'm going to sue you all!"
"Sir, you can do as you please. We have done nothing wrong so naturally, your threat does not work against us."
"Just you wait!"
"....Sir, if it makes you feel any better, that book was written by the maker."
"...." It took Fu Jie a minute to respond, "What?"
"You should read it first before making any hasty decisions. You are one of our top players so naturally, we have no intention of deceiving you and we consider you as deserving of knowing how our game came to be." The girl successfully diverted the topic.
"What the heck are you talking about?"
"I'm sure you have heard the rumors that our game was based on the story of Bai Ling....?"
"Is it not?"
"No. Our game is indeed based on a novel and that novel is right now with you."
"What the heck?"
"We promised a special one-of-a-kind treasure to the winner and that book is our most valued treasure."
"Are you joking around with me?!"
"Good day, sir." The phone call ended as the girl hung up first making Fu Jie curse her even more. He redialled the number but instead of it ringing—an automated voice came through, "the number you have dialed is no longer in service."
He had not expected the rumors about the crimson sky to be so true. It was said that they had the best legal team under them hence, taking any legal action against them was utterly useless and the location of their headquarters remained a mystery, making it impossible for people to barge in and cause any trouble for them. Not only that, but their helpdesk could only be reached once, and even if you redialled, you'd no longer be able to contact them. At first, all of these mysteries were the initial reason why Liu Fu Jie was interested in the game but after playing for a few weeks, he was automatically addicted to the crimson sky. Only now had he realized how shady the developers of this game actually were.
He threw his phone aside and picked up the previously discarded book. The book had a pretty antique look to it, the cover was made out of black leather and the pages were sown in. The pages themselves seemed to have a brown tint on them, some letters rubbed off and some pages torn from the edges, indicating how old the pages were. On the cover was the title of the book, written with red ink: the midnight musician by Bai Ling.
"Bai Ling? So the maker calls himself Bai Ling? What type of joke is this?" even though he was dissatisfied and constantly complaining about the prize he won, he still sat down and read through the book. At first, he found the story to be like a cheap version of the original myth of Bai Ling but after reading more than twenty chapters, he had long forgotten his initial dissatisfaction and was completely immersed in the story, finding it to be quite interesting.
Liu Fu Jie didn't realize when but he had read the whole book in a single sitting and had somehow fallen asleep.
The next morning he woke up to a near heart attack as he looked at his surroundings. He was no longer in that old empty apartment of his. He woke up on top of a tree in the middle of the wilderness and rubbed his eyes a few times, thinking that it may be a dream. But dream or not, one thing that didn't change was his fear of heights.
"What the actual f**k is this?!! @#$!@#%$&&*%$#@%$#^$%" A string of profanities slipped through his tongue as he clung on to the branch of the tree for dear life.

You hold in your hands Magical Wands - A Cornucopia of Wand Lore, one of the most popular and widely used textbooks on wand lore, even if I do say so myself. Although I specifically wrote this book for the wand lore class I teach at The Isle of Skye School of Magick, I am more than a little proud to note that it has been used in several other schools, both here in the British Isles and across the pond in America. My publisher even tells me that it is often used when young witches and wizards do not attend a proper school of magic but are home schooled instead.
When teaching wand lore, I cover the first four chapters during the fall semester and remaining four chapters during the spring semester. Although this book was specifically written for fourth year students, I sometimes allow the more advanced third year students to enroll, and they usually do not find the material too challenging even though the book is considerably longer than the typical third year textbook.
As the word cornucopia in the title implies, this textbook covers almost all of the important topics of wand lore. It begins with a quick review of the foundations of magic including the metaphysical elementals, phases, genders, and their associated spells and spell sets. It then dives into the many important principles of wand making. This is followed by chapters on the materials used in the crafting of wands including magical creatures for the wand's core, magical woods for the wand's shaft and handle, and finally the mystical crystals and metals often found on the wand's tip and end cap. The remainder of the book largely deals with the wands of famous and infamous mages throughout history including many examples of how the selection of wand components frequently enabled their wands to excel at strengthening and focusing the spells they cast most often.
In spite of its rather large size, this book does not cover every aspect of wand lore. For instance, it does not detail the proper ways to obtain wand-making materials and many of the practical aspects of crafting a wand from them. These are advanced topics more appropriate for a fifth year hands-on course in wand making. Neither does it teach the casting of spells, which is rightly the subject of a series of courses on spell casting.
And now it is time to dive into - dare I say it - the magical world of wand lore. I wish you all success in mastering the theory of wand lore, and. I hope you consider following this course with one covering the actual crafting of magic wands. Finally, I hope one or two of you consider a career of wand making once you graduate. After five years as an apprentice, you will become a master wand maker and enjoy a life of crafting fine wands, a mage's most important instrument.

Magical Wands: A Cornucopia of Wand Lore is that textbook from The Isles of Skye School of Magick. The first chapter begins with a basic overview of magic wands followed by an introduction to magical theory including the four planes of existence (Astral, Spectral, Physical, and Daemonic), the five metaphysical elementals (Quintessence, Air, Fire, Earth, and Water), and the three preternatural phases of Light, Twilight, and Darkness. It also contains sets of the commonly used spells associated with each of these elementals and phases. The first chapter then describes the different types of wands, their components, how they are crafted, and how they are used to cast spells. Chapter two teaches the 17 principles of wand making. Chapters three through six comprehensively cover the materials used to make magic wands including magical creatures (both beings and beasts), magical woods, mystical crystals, and mystical metals. Chapter seven documents 26 famous and infamous witches and wizards, their wands, and how well their wands suited their needs. Chapter eight concludes the textbook by nicely summarizing the contents of the entire textbook. Each of the chapters ends with student exercises, the answers of which are included in the back of the textbook which also includes a glossary, references, and afterword by the editor.

In the middle of the cosmos where you can't see anything other than the boundless black space and infinite number of stars, you can see a fortress floating without any sign of stopping anytime soon.

This fortress was so big that it could make a planet look like an ant.

But the most shocking thing about it was that there was no living being roaming it.

There was only one person in this fortress who is an old man with a long white beard and hair, he looked so old that it seemed like he would be blown away by a gust of wind at any moment.

No one could remember he's name nor where he came from, but the only thing they knew was that no one could beat him and that no one that entered his fortress with ill intentions had ever been able to return alive, that's why they call him the fortress master.

The old man looked with his majestic eyes at the void and sighed.

"Haa, I never thought that I'll be able to live until my life span ends this is really a joke, the immortal fortress master died of old age those two little brats would be laughing there ass off." The old man looked depressed, then he suddenly shock one of his hands slightly and then a book appeared magically.

The book's name was written on its cover.

This was the cultivation technique he created in the last few years of his life, he was planning to cultivate it to perfection and breakthrough to the last realm and become a god.

But now it seemed like he didn't have much time and by the end of the day his lifespan would end, even though he was an immortal, it wasn't true immortality he just had a really long lifespan but he couldn't go against time the being capable of doing that was God.

But this didn't mean he was out of cards, even though he couldn't use the [Rule maker] cultivation technique couldn't help him breakthrough to the god realm he could still use it to bend the rules slightly and get a chance at rebirth.

"Well, it seems like all the preparations are done, with my heavenly fortress as a sacrifice and the body's of 9999 heavenly immortals and the {words of laws} art  from the [Rule maker] cultivation technique to be able to be reborn and start again from scratch, but this time I'm going to become a god." What would happen if an immortal dies and get a chance to be reborn in a fantasy world where elfves, dwarfs and other races live were magic and aura rules.

It all started with a manual. A semi spiritual set of instructions and an activation key that was supposed to imprint the human mind with the proper knowledge needed. It was almost similar to how the tablet of Thoth; properly known as the Emerald Tablet, behaved It was meant for anyone and everyone to read so when the first distribution came out in print it was sponsored enough to sell regularly. The origin point of the book came from the assimilation of many classical texts brought by the new age hooligans who were flaunting the rebirth of a new spirituality or so they believed. All good writing begins on a good foundation and frankly a person is entitled to their belief systems but the book was a plain reprint of nearly 11 pages long and the rest was celestial star maps. The book was not received to be overly popular but modest that it seemed to be available at almost most mom and pop places.

With that kept in mind and the nature of business added with the factor of the magic that books have on people to innately draw them in interest to the sources of information they need. An avid reader who reads three books a week could simply miss this book due to the uninteresting description while a newbie would be inspired by the clarity and information of this book. One would take a look at the first page and see a warning from the company and author stating openly and honestly the intents and purposes. Folks of a religious faction may find the book offensive or not but that's simply ensuring that there's no need for a disclaimer. That the right mind may attain therein the code of ascension for the ensoulment of one's dreams.

So all those that obtained the code were divided into two groups. Group one recognized that they innately needed to return to a similar state prior to an incarnation of their lives so for that matter will be called Inators. Group two were those that met the conditions of life that were simply right timing, proper reaction, and a tad bit of curiosity in a sense that chance and luck were the only reasons that the book travelled into their hands.
Properties of the book was not intended for the misuse of anyone who just happened to take a peek across the classrooms to read it were not affected by it. The magic of books provides assistance to one's soul by consuming their entirety. If one who never attempted to pick up a book in the subject of interest then they will never read it. Everyone likes books because it records the flaws of mankind and their successes. The purpose of this particular book for the folks who needed an answer to their mysteries. This humble 11 page manual described to anyone a new possibility of other worlds within the scope of living inside the body and outside the normal range of the mind.

the book's code breaking on brought to light the untapped potential a human has. It was indeed a humble book that did not ask for more than it's maker intended.  It was not in the book's wishes to dress in a fancy shiny glitter cover. It did not exist to make others money. Just to share. Only did it become wider known it still was selected by the unique inmates and fatesworn. This essentially the story of such people who managed to invoke the code which unsealed them and how they learned to adapt to the new mystic bodies which were granted from their inner consciousness. Not all those participants were prepared for what was to come and only by chance did reading one flick of a page they they get drawn into a beautiful journey of harrowing events..

A book goes viral lending people the power to ascend to a new world while running their own normal ones. Charlie, anonymous teenager is set to be the catalyst that sparks the estranged journey of a city.

Taking a flight of stairs up to the third floor, I walked through a corridor and came to the other side where there was a locked door. There were three, but I went over to the one that was on the far right.

With a set of practiced movements, I put my hand below the carpet before the door and caught on to the object I was rummaging through for. It was a rusty old key, which I used immediately after to unlock and enter inside.

When the door opened, I walked inside with careful strides. I didn't want to knock over the stack of books strewn all over the floor again, cleaning up was a mess when one of the librarians came over. 

With a little bit of effort, I had gotten to the other end of the room. Before me, was a ring of 20-feet tall shelves, caved outwards in a semi-circle. There was an opening in the middle where I used to pass through.

Once I was inside, I threw my belongings to the side and jumped onto the cushioned sofa leaning against the wall. 

Aah, how I've missed this so much... Well, it's only been a week. But I've returned, to my usual seat. This entire place that's reserved for me alone.

Was it better to call this a hideout, as this small space created from the enclosure of arced shelves wasn't a place where normal people could come into. Well, I wasn't technically allowed in here either since the the third floor was off-limits. However, it wasn't very difficult convincing a bunch of underpaid librarians to turn a blind eye to my entry. As long as I didn't cause any trouble and didn't leave a mess around, we had a deal. 

Because of how obscured this place was, it was easy for me to sneak in some snacks on occasion. Those were stored behind a cabinet of books, and I conveniently went over and opened a bag of dried squid for myself. I also took the time to pull out the stash that was kept hidden here.

"This goes here. Here. And this one here... here... and done." I wiped the sweat off my forehead after exerting some effort carrying them around. While enjoying the taste of preserved seafood in my mouth, I looked around this redecorated space with a satisfied look. Almost a week's worth of paycheck had gone to these things— A coffee-maker, a music player, and a roll of super-comfy fur blanket draped around me comfortably. Is this what they call a best of both worlds? I'd almost feel like a degenerate again whenever I come to visit.

But who cares, it was my well-deserved break. Others spend it on the weekly theatrical plays in the city square, or find their enjoyment in brothels and sex. But I find most comfort in what I enjoy best. Reading.

I wore a pair of muffled gloves and started the coffee-maker. Since I had already stocked up enough cores for their mana usage before, the coffee-maker operated seamlessly as usual. A few seconds later, the aroma of rich coffee entered my nostrils. I took the porcelain cup from the stand of the coffee-maker and took a sip.

Aah... This is heaven... Thank you, Satoru-kun. Your inventions are a blessing to this world.

While thanking the otherworlder I never had the pleasure to meet in my head, I took off the gloves again and flung them to the couch. While enjoying the homely taste of Earth, I moved over to the windowsill right next to this small space. 

When I looked outside, I could see the bird's nest settled in between the branches of the oak tree as usual. But there was an unfamiliar figure? What used to be two hatchlings, had now become three. Something about the sight of the mother bird pecking up earthworms near to its children's mouths, was just so endearing. 

When I got my fill of how they were doing today, I came close to one of the shelves and knelt down. At the lower row, I picked out a book which was the only one there without a hard cover. I returned to the couch and sat down with the book in hand, flipping through a few pages. After getting to the latest page where there was nothing written on it, I started penning down my entry for what I did this week.

Cooking, cleaning, tending to stores and inns. Well, those were the usual. But at the end of the entry, I didn't forget to include a monster I had defeated recently thanks to Heinesia's tip-off. A Level 3 monster-squirrel called [Acorn Bearer], it ran nearly as fast the Horned Rabbits, but once I led it away from a terrain without trees, the fight became one-sided quickly.

Speaking of which, I was also slowly starting to get used to the act of killing monsters. After thinking of them as 'digital creations' that the 'game' creates, the resistance from monster blood became substantially less from each encounter with them.

—-After that, I recorded a few more restaurants I had visited, and stores in the inner district before I finished the entry with how much money I had left. With the money for today, it still didn't seem as much as I'd like to have. Even with the title ability I got as a [Merchant]:｢Merchant's Deal｣ that gave me 'discounts' to whatever I purchased, I was still only able to scrounge up a total of 4 silver and 13 copper coins at the end of this month.

If I had not bought those magic items here, maybe I would be close to 5 silver coins but I didn't think I was being wasteful with my expenses. Especially since I had told myself to live without regrets this time in this world, I was now a stronger believer in the value of self-satisfaction more than anything.

As for when I would get my custom-made equipment, I had already dropped that idea. That stuff was way too expensive. 

Additionally, the number of low-leveled monsters around Halvan was going to stay low because of the freak incident where all the Horned Rabbits in a nest had gone crazy, and had attacked the city. Needless to say, all of them were wiped out, but I had never expected that monsters had their own ecosystems as well. When the Horned Rabbit was removed from the food chain, the presence of other monsters had also become unstable. 

The royal scientist who came to Halvan a few days after that incident had determined that this phenomenon was only going to be temporary, and it would take another two months before the mana in the air was redistributed to create more monsters accordingly.

Since I wasn't going to be monster-active during this downtime, I didn't have an issue with re-using the [Moonsift Fang] dagger given to me. As for the camping rucksack I had purchased before, I never got the chance to use it yet, it might really have been an impulsive purchase back then that I still regret to this day. But I am properly using the weight-enchantment robe and the custom clothes I ordered before. I was even thinking of getting an extra set because of how comfortable it is. Despite what my first impression of that guy had made me believe, Richard Brownfield was a talented tailor who really cut no corners when making clothes.

I returned the journal to where I had kept it before, and sighed. Taking Shinri's advice, I had started this journal. The journal had recorded a mundane life, it was the normal and fulfilling life that I wanted. A working member of society. But as a month had passed, I found myself wanting more. Was I getting influenced from just having a taste of being 'on the edge' once? I knew that this feeling had started ever since I was chased down by the goblins. I found myself lamenting about it at times, that if things would turn out differently if I had simply stood my ground and fought them?

—-There was also the heart-pounding episode in the rabbit burrow. I left another adventurer to die and told no one about it. I saved a demihuman slave, but she seems to have already disappeared after being set free.

Would anything change if I had taken the initiative to confront my cowardly self?

Was I really going to be able to truly enjoy my second life in a fantasy world if I was stuck in a tiring cycle of being treated as a manual labourer? Slowly but surely, this sentiment of dissatisfaction crept up to me. Before I knew it, I was already hooked on the thought of what a 'true adventurer' would be like, and I felt like right now, this wasn't really the kind of life I wanted the most.

...I yearned for adventure.

But, no use beating myself over it, this was just temporary anyway. I was already a Level 6 for some time now. Remembering the fact that I would finally be able to obtain my long-overdue class in the church in a few more days, I gathered up a little more motivation again.

I stared at the book Lyndel had placed on a small round coffee table before I came—-[The World History by Devani Marcoles].

Before then, the least I could do was read up more about this new world. After playing the music player, a simple ambient piano softened the atmosphere.

I sat down cozily on the couch and began to work on the thick history textbook with a pleasant smile.

Both of the men continue to stare at her for a few more seconds to see if she would break. 

She did not end up breaking so they simultaneously looked back at each other before continuing their conversation. 

"So you have no idea what this means?"

"I'm afraid I do not." 

Dave lets out a long sigh. 

"Well then, Neyuki we are going to get a spell book. If you can't use magic I'll make you pay me back in the future."

Neyuki gets excited and starts to look at all the books on the shelves. There were book covers of all colors, and were all relatively small compared to some history books. 

The colors of the covers varied based off of the spells element. 

Brown would be a spell of the earth element. 

Dark blue would be a spell of the water element. 

Red would be a spell of the fire element.

Each element had its own unique color however some books had more than one color. The cover having multiple colors means that the spell contains multiple elements. 

If it only has two colors then anyone with an innate magic under blue would not be able to learn it ever. 

If the cover has 3 then only mages with purple and up can cast it. However, there were no covers with 3 elements at this shop. 

The majority only had 5 pages. The first page would have the element of the spell and how it was created. 

The second page would have if you were compatible with the spell and how long it would take you depending on your innate magic. 

If you were red it's impossible to learn any spells. If it is green it would take a long time just to learn a spell. A person with green would also be limited to small and simple spells. 

If one had blue which is in between green and purple they would be limited to not being able to do the best spells and would have an average learning speed. 

If a genius with a purple innate magic ability wanted to learn a spell they would not be limited. They would be able to learn and use any spell that they desired. They would also have a slightly below average learning speed. They also have a small chance at creating a spell if they tried their hardest. 

If an amazing person with black innate magic wanted to learn a spell they could learn much faster than average. If they tried to create a spell they would have about a 25% chance if they tried their hardest or were lucky. 

If a legendary person that had managed to break the magic stone with their innate magic tried to create a spell they would have a 70% chance to do so, not trying their hardest. They would also have no trouble learning a beginner spell after reading it once. 

The 3rd page of a spell book would be the actual spell. It would have obscure runes that one would have to look at and for a while before they gained understanding of the spell. 

The 4th page would be how to use it effectively. For instance if it's a spell to make it rain one would need to be outside to have it work. If they had a really good understanding of the spell maybe they would be able to make it rain inside. 

The 5th page would be a small summary about the maker of the spell. They accomplish other spells they have made. 

"If you are unsure if she can even use magic then I would recommend this spell."

He approaches the family with a green book in his hands. On the front of the book is the title 'Plant Growth.'

"It is one of the most basic spells. This can be learned in half a month for those with an innate magic of green. Her test resulted in a black as well so if she learns it instantly she is possibly above a black."

"How much will it cost?"

Dave was more worried about the price than the skill needed for it. If there was a cheaper spell but would take her a year to learn he was going to do that. 

"For having shown me something I have never seen, I will put it on discount 1 silver instead of the normal 3."

"Deal!" 

Dave reached for the man's empty hand and shook it before he could change his mind. If the book normally cost 3 silver that means in a month or so he could be 2 silver richer.

Dave then takes out a small money pouch with a dozen silvers inside. Out comes a single silver and placed in the man's hand. Dave then takes the book from the man's hand and starts pushing his family out of the shop. 

They had to leave before the man changed his mind and made them pay 2 more silvers. 

When they left the shop they could tell the sun had fully set and it was starting to grow darker outside. 

"Let's go find ourselves an inn. Traveling at night is never a good idea."

Neyuki tried to read the book while they were walking but it's far too dark to see what it says. 

Her mother made sure to walk behind her to lead her in the right direction. If they lost Neyuki in this city it would take a long time to find her again. Eventually they got to an inn that had empty rooms. It was located about half a mile from the city gate they entered from. 

Once they got into their room they locked the door and turned on a small fire in a glass ball just like at the one they had at their house. The second the room was lit up Neyuki opened the book. 

She was ready to learn all there was to know about this spell. 

'Plant spell. Was made on accident by Anizul, a mage who wanted her pototo(not potato) to grow faster.'

Wow, talk about luck. Neyuki hoped that one day she would be able to accidentally make a spell.

'Innate magic of green is required. Time depending on Innate magic: Green: 2-4 weeks. Blue: 1-1 and a half weeks. Purple: 1-3 days. Black: Just one read.'

Neyuki was bummed out when she couldn't find out how long it would take her to learn the spell. 

When she looked at the 3rd page she didn't even realize there were weird symbols. She just knew how to cast the spell. 

Neyuki is shocked at the spell. All she had to do was command it to grow then give it some magic? That sounds so easy. 

"That's the spell?"

Her mother walks over to look over her shoulder. All she sees are a bunch of weird shapes going around in a circle. 

"Do you know how to do it already?"

Neyuki instantly remembers that this was supposed to take at least 2 weeks for an innate green magic user. She is at the very least that 1 out of 1000 of all magic users.

After leaving the game store, RJ, Tatiana (Tatterhood) and Bellerophon the dog(goat) decided to take the sudden opportunity of freedom to look around Sam Francisco properly.

Well, to be more accurate, Tatterhood decided to drag RJ around as she explored San Francisco...part of it anyways. She had originally planned to drag him to explore the whole city, but he had managed to talk her down to at least the immediate area for the day due to still needing to go home at some point. 

"Let's see what this town has to offer"!

That did not stop her from running around like a maniac.

*Ding! Ding*!

"Huh. The Cable Cars a bit smaller than I anticipated, but still have this timeless charm to them...reminds me of some friends...and myself!", Tatterhood commented with a mix of glee and nostalgia.

"Repent! Repent"!

"Hah! Bible-slingers! Seems like they always preach the same thing regardless of the century. Granted, they look a tad crazier and drunker than what I recall", she said with a laugh.

"Performers today are much better than what I remember seeing back home...course, they got nothing on old Orphy".

"As in...Orpheus"?

"Who else could I mean?", Tatterhood asked while looking at RJ like he was dumb for a hot minute. She then turned her attention to yet another sight.

As Tatterhood ran about and looked at San Francisco's sights, RJ took the opportunity to check on his newly acquired..."game".

"Okay, so opening the game doesn't just automatically teleport me to...I'm just gonna call it the WBTL..", RJ though to himself as he pressed on the app to reveal the game's menu.

The menu in question looked pretty standard for a mobile game, animated spell circle in the center, some side bars providing information such as time, energy and currency.

"Let's see here...'Home', 'Gacha','Soul','Quests' and...'Settings'? ... I'll just wait until I'm home to use that one", RJ thought before clicking on the tab marked 'Soul'.

The sidebars retracted to the sides as the spell circle changed color and three new options appeared on-screen: [Creatures], [Artifacts], [Self].

The first two options were self-explanatory, so RJ decided to skip those for now and go straight to the [Self] option. The screen shifted into blackness for a bit before presenting RJ with a profile screen for himself.

Noticing the "!", RJ clicked on it, figuring if he had skillpoints, he might as well used them.

The screen shifted away from his profile to what appeared to be  the same book that almost threw out his back. Upon closer inspection, he realized that it was decorated with three gems embedded in the cover: an agate, a piece of bismuth and an opal. Carved into the agate was the Chinese character for Earth, while the opal had a tiny spell circle carved into it. 

"Huh...so the giant book was digitized into an e-book...neat", RJ thought to himself as he saw the book floating there in a loading screen-like manner.

A short animation of the book opening played, before switching to what appeared to be a void with three floating balls of colored lights. RJ guessed that they were the three skills that the book was dedicated to.

Rapidly clicking through them, he soon learned that most of the skills were completely blacked out or grayed out, and that some of the skills connected 

Except for one branch in the [Crafting] section:[Model Making], which was already lit up.

RJ had mixed feelings about this discovery, but shoved it to the back of his mind as he looked at the skills he could unlock.

As RJ stared at the screen to determine what he should spend his skill points on first, he failed to notice Tatterhood stopping her sight seeing in order to sneak up behind him.

"Ah!", RJ yelped as he fumbled his phone a bunch of times before he managed to catch it.

"Tatterhood! Don't do-" {Skills selected, beginning knowledge transfer}.

"Wait wha-Nyeehh", RJ managed to squeak out before the knowledge for [Earth Shape], [Sculpt], [Spirit Sense], [Spirit Call] and [Infuse] downloaded into his brain.

It's not exactly a bad feeling, but it ain't pleasant either.

It has been a few years since Jace locked me in the basement.
