"I know you have a question to ask. Feel free Asher. I don't bite." Grandpa Winks joked good humouredly. Asher slightly bowed after receiving his master's permission. He asked humbly, "The eternal throne, Reiki, he seems to have the ability to manipulate time. How is that possible?" 
 
His question would have surprised Maia if she were still here. Simply because the eternal throne wasn't as simple as she thought. What she thought was a memory scape, a glimpse into the past if you will, was actually 'a step into the past' (author's note- loved that book by the way). Even the eternal throne had no idea he possessed this ability. To the best of his sealed knowledge, he was only accessing the memories of the masters he had before. As for why he didn't know, it was very obviously related to his sealed memories. He must have been manipulated into believing memory peeping was his ability when he was basically a time machine.
 
On initial scrutiny, his question seemed silly. Time was a difficult law to grasp, but even humans, gods and devils alike had managed to grasp its essence at some point. Questioning an origin divine artefact's ability to manipulate time seemed to rather question the intelligence of the inquisitor. However, any person who was well informed about origin divine artefacts would find this false, and the question brilliant. Origin divine artefacts were powerful, yes, but not omnipotent. Each origin divine artefact possessed power over a major law, and just that law. The Book of Order controlled order and the Chaotic Flames was the overseer of chaos. But that was it. They had no mastery over any other laws, even the basic elements. As the heir to the law of order, the eternal throne should not be capable of controlling two laws- edict and time.
 
"Under normal circumstances, no he shouldn't have such an ability. But he does. Reiki wasn't chosen as heir for no reason. Even without the Book of Order's power, Reiki is mighty powerful in his own right. Back then, he was one out of four other origin artefacts that could stand toe to toe with the Book of Order and the Chaotic Flames. Reiki didn't really inherit the power of order. The Book of Order still has its control over this elusive law intact, yet it isn't a monopoly. What Reiki did was to study under the Book of Order for millions of years, through time stop of course, and comprehend a simpler minor law of order. One which he named 'the edict'. Reiki is still the origin artefact of time. And his mastery of the edict proves that origin artefacts may never be capable of grasping more than one origin law, but can control a minor law if they try hard enough. It was Reiki that travelled back in time to warn the Book of Order of the impending doom the Chaotic Flames will bring. It was he who told the Book of Order that she would be on the losing end. It was he who passed some of his power to the Book of Order, allowing her to halt time for an instant and severely injure the Chaotic Flames, forcing him to go into a deep slumber. It was Reiki that bought us time. It was he who was known as the Scheming Emperor, the first origin artefact to possess a title. It was Reiki whose foresight enabled us to see what was ahead, and what was to come. And it was the Scheming Emperor who decided that it would be best to seal his memories."
 
Asher listened in amazement as Reiki's achievements were listed one after the other. Who would have thought that the pivotal character in the power struggle between the Book of Order and the Chaotic Flames were none of the two, but the eternal throne. The handsome, naïve looking man wasn't just one of the oldest existences in the entire Universe, but he was also one of the strongest. And from the Cold Emperor's words, his true strength wasn't related to his ability to manipulate time or freely use edict- what many wielders called inner energy- but his impressive thinking. He was definitely not called the Scheming Emperor for no reason. To think the young dude with the innocent looking face and eyes had such a moniker. One really couldn't judge a book by its cover. In this case, a throne by its colour. But when a person considered that the eternal throne was actually black in colour, it made sense to judge it by its colour.
 
"Have our spies confirmed the assassin's information?" Grandpa Winks suddenly asked, effectively bringing Asher's mind back to the present. His wondering mind quickly stringed some words together as he quickly replied, "Yes master. His words are very likely to be the truth."
 
Grandpa Winks wrinkled his brow in worry, "If this is true, then it isn't to our advantage at all. What is the surety behind their words?"
 
"40 percent confident master." Asher replied. "Then we have no choice but to take it seriously." Asher nodded at his master's words with his head slightly bowed. 40 percent might seem like a really low percentile to inform a decision. It wasn't even 50 percent. But if one only based his/her decisions on absolute situations, that person would die real soon. Even if it was a 10 percent chance, they would have to take it, especially with the kind of information that they had received.
 
"Should we contact his family?" Asher asked. "No. At least it isn't time yet." Grandpa Winks insisted. "Yes master" Asher obediently acknowledged his master's words, as he always did. 
 
"I wonder if there would ever be a day that you would go against me Asher." Grandpa Winks thought out loud. "Never master" Asher frantically denied the possibility of that ever happening.
 
"Relax Asher. I don't doubt you." Grandpa Winks chuckled happily upon seeing his subordinate panic. It was a pleasant sight for the Emperor, for Asher rarely lost his cool. 
 
"Thank you for your trust master. We are Eternals. Our will is eternal. We will rise with the Supreme One. The Universe cannot bind us. For we are its binders." Asher solemnly swore the pledge of the eternals.
"I think we should change our pledge." Asher's brows twitched at his master's words. Grandpa Winks smiled at the subtle change and said, "Back to the matter at hand. About the information we received, it must be kept confidential. No one. Absolutely no one, must know where the Book of Order rests."

"My heritage is a strange one, my destiny even stranger. My journey is not for the faint hearted, and even my friends cannot truly be trusted. Yet I will come out on top, for I am the Supreme"

Both Xue Ying and Lord Si An settled down facing each other. Servants constantly served snacks and hot tea. Zong Ling, Tong San, You Tu and others waited just outside the corridor.
Savouring the hot tea in his hands, Lord Si An gazed at the snowy blizzard that raged outside.
"My Lord, you live in such a wonderful place. Unlike the city, which is plagued with noisy crowds who can be heard even in the wee hours of the night, your place is both tranquil and without restrictions." Lord Si An chuckled, "After I retire, I will look for such a peaceful place to relax in."
Xue Ying smiled, "There are many who desire your high status that would normally be out their reach."
"High status? I am just a person in charge of a Dragon Mountain Mansion in a small town, yet you are speaking of high status." Lord Si An replied before presenting a small stack of gold, "Here is eight hundred gold! Although the bounty for Ge Bin is not much, I still want you to have it."
Xue Ying took it from him.
Prisoners of the Empire… Generally gold bounties would be reserved for star ranked criminals or for those who had committed heinous crimes. Average bandits were not eligible for such handsome rewards.
"This is the Black Iron Order." Si An presented yet another item, a black token, with the two words ‘Dragon Mountain’ carved on it , "Every citizen who has the strength of a Meteor Knight will receive this token."
"Strength of a Meteor Knight? Black Iron Order?" Xue Ying appeared to be preoccupied by his thoughts.
"There are two types of tokens."
Si An continued, "There is the Black Iron Order, and the Bronze Order! Those who have the strength of a Meteor Knight can obtain the Iron Order, while only those who possess the remarkable strength can obtain the Bronze Order… Those of higher strength would be a Transcendent Knight! Transcendents make up the entirety of our Xia Clan’s and the Empire’s strength. But of course, Transcendents live in an entirely different world, it’s useless to talk of them now."
"Take this Black Iron Order, it belongs solely to you, and it can be used for many purposes." Si An placed the token before Xue Ying.
Xue Ying took a closer look. Other than the words ‘Dragon Mountain’, there were complex lined designs that seemed to naturally cross and combine with expert coordination. It was a beautiful sight.
Si An waved his hand, and a small stack of papers were brought forth: "This is the Dragon Mountain Mansion’s Imperial Report’, it records the general events in the Empire, and provides detailed information about happenings in the Azure River County. For example, you killed a Silver Moon Wolf King and single handedly annihilated the entire Bent Blade Union. Your deeds will be recorded in the next report, and all those strong individuals who are in possession of this report will be able to see what you have done.
"Oh?" Xue Ying flipped through the report he received.
The report had over ten pages, the first page detailed the important incidents that occurred outside the Azure River County. The rest recorded all the events that passed within.
"Dragon Mountain Calendar, Year 9623, November 19th, Azure River County. The fifth division entered the Mountain Range of Desolation. On the third day, they encountered a rank 6 magical beast, ‘Darkness Demon Bear’ which awakened from its deep slumber. Two thousand soldiers perished from this destructive foe..."
"Dragon Mountain Calendar, Year 9623, November 10th, Azure River County. A Transcendent Level Knight appeared in Serene Sky City. He appeared to as a bare footed old man with white hair who was deranged and in tattered clothing..."
"November 5th, the marriage between Si family and Zhang family..."

The ‘Imperial Report’ recorded all the important events and messages of all the districts in Azure River County. It even contained urgent official information, and included the dates of each event.
As for the anecdotes from the districts, the documentation was less restrictive.
Xue Ying was awed by the report, realizing that there were many things happening within the thousand miles of the Azure River County.
"Lord Si An, there is actually a Transcendent in Serene Sky City?" Xue Ying asked curiously.
"And he disappeared without a trace after that." Lord Si An mused, "Those Transcendents are of extremely high status. The things they wish for and desire are different from the rest of us. For them, travelling throughout the world is a normal thing. It is recorded in the report to notify all the clans, so that they do not accidentally offend a Transcendent! Disaster will surely follow if one is offended! An entire tribe might cease to exist!"
Xue Ying nodded.
That’s right.
Street beggars were always randomly bullied, but according to this notice, any beggar could turn out to be a Transcendent Knight! Who would not be cautious?
"The existence of a Transcendent is extremely rare; within the entire Empire’s nineteen provinces, there are just a few of them. Take a look at our Azure River County, while our county is quite big, it has yet to produce a single Transcendent!" "The following items I am going to give you are gradually getting more important."
"The second most important items are these two books!" Lord Si An’s expression turned stern as he swiftly presented two sealed books, one canvassed in black with the two words ‘Dragon Mountain’ on the cover. The other had a red cover and a drawing of a dagger dripping with crimson blood imprinted on it.
"These books are?" Xue Ying inquired curiously as he stared at them.
"This one is the Dragon Mountain Book, and is recorded by our very own Dragon Mountain Mansion. While the other is the Bloodshed Book, written by the Bloodshed Tavern." Lord Si An replied.
Xue Ying retrieved the two thick books.
Xue Ying flipped open the black Dragon Mountain Book, within it was a long list of names in descending order based on rankings, with a brief introduction of each person next to their name.
"The Bloodshed Book is a book of murderers!" Lord Si An’s words made Xue Ying  gasp in surprise.
"Book of murderers?" Xue Ying glanced at the scarlet book at his side.
"Yes, the history of the Bloodshed Tavern is shrouded with mystery, so much so that the Dragon Mountain Mansion dares not to provoke them! Every city throughout the Empire, contains at least one Bloodshed Tavern." Lord Si An continued, "According to their number of kills, the Bloodshed Tavern was able to fill this book with the nicknames of many killers! After all, killers usually like to maintain their anonymity."
"The other Dragon Mountain Book is more authoritative and is viewed as a matter of great importance to all the powers within the Empire." A proud expression was plastered on Lord Si An’s face, "The Dragon Mountain Book is our very own recording of the top three thousand Bronze Order powers throughout the entirety of the Empire’s nineteen provinces." Lord Si An continued, "From first to the three thousandth, every power has been ranked through severe and careful consideration in accordance to their fighting strength and further detailed evaluation aspects."
"The entire Empire’s three thousand strongest powers?" Xue Ying’s eyes gleamed with interest.
Bronze Order.
Only those with recognised fighting strength were eligible to obtain the Bronze Order! Here was a document containing the top three thousand powers.
"Due to the scarce number of Transcendents in the Empire, there is no record of their rankings." Lord Si An explained, "Those a step away from the Transcendent rank are proclaimed to be supreme, and many are impressive enough to be compared to actual Transcendents. In the entire Empire, there are countless individuals who possess such strength."
"The entire Azure River County has a total of twelve Bronze Order powers. And only five are recorded within the Dragon Mountain Book." Lord Si An elaborated.
Xue Ying nodded slightly in response, the Dragon Mountain Book had a limitation of three thousand positions, and not every Bronze Order holder can be included."
"These five powers."
"Ranked fifth, is Chang Qing Ze with an overall rank of 2895."
"Ranked fourth, is Zhang Yong with an overall rank of 2822."
"Ranked third, is Dan Chen with an overall rank of 1259."
"Ranked second, is Si Liang Hong with an overall rank of 569."
"Ranked first, is Xiang Pan Yun with an overall rank of 525."

And this world that Gu Qing Shan was currently on, was one of those Prehistoric Worlds.

Through countless years, the struggles these worlds went through far surpassed most other worlds.

Because of a certain characteristic among many that their World Origin possesses.

Every creation of the Old Gods would naturally come to an end sooner or later.

But Prehistoric Worlds possessed the 'Eternal' characteristic.

Even the historical calamities that were said to have destroyed everything only temporarily destroyed them.

After just a few years, their world Laws would once again fuse the fragments back together.

A Prehistoric World would always reform itself.

Naturally, a Prehistoric World after reformation would have differences as compared to how it was before.

For living beings of billions of worlds, this type of 'Eternal' that came close to that of Gods naturally became the most interesting thing, especially to Combatants who stand at the very top.

This world of sand had gone through a total of 37 owners, 61 times of natural destruction, 9 times caught in the mass destruction of many worlds, and 7,925 times of being destroyed by wars.

The book Gu Qing Shan was reading detailed the events of this world's 5th destruction.

At the time, a Lord-class Combatant of overwhelming power defeated the previous owner of this desert world and took it over.

His power largely came from his unique ability

---------the power to replicate himself.

He had the ability to perfectly create a copy of himself.

This wasn't the same as cloning or incarnation techniques, as the one created from this ability would become a real living, breathing person.

The newly reborn 'him' would keep all of his experience and memories, losing only his strength.

And the Lord-class Combatant would always fully commit himself to nurture his copy after they split.

When this Lord took over Drifting Sand world, he had already reached 70 copies of himself.

By himself, he had the power of 70 Lords!

The reason why he took over Drifting Sand world in the first place was to study the 'Eternal' Law that this world possessed.

At first, everything was normal.

He received a lot of new understanding from observing the world's natural cycle and operation.

But one day, while this Lord was studying the 'Eternal' Law, he went insane.

10 of his incarnations attacked each other, not only did they kill one another, but they also destroyed the world in the process.

After Gu Qing Shan was done reading the book, he closed it up.

The book asked him: [Do you want to read something else?]

Gu Qing Shan looked ahead.

About a dozen armed guards were observing the queue at the entrance into town.

 Whenever someone reached the door, the guards would point their weapons at the person.

Anybody that wanted to proceed into town from that point would have to place their hand on a book that was floating in the air.

It was a particularly thick, silver-back book.

The book had a name, the Life Observer.

The Life Observer would decide whether or not the person would be allowed entry into the town.

And currently, the queue was still ridiculously long, it wouldn't be for a while until he would even reach the entrance.

Gu Qing Shan answered: "If possible, I would like to read more about this world"

[Please wait a moment]

The book answered him and flew up to the sky.

Soon enough, another book hovered in front of Gu Qing Shan.

Gu Qing Shan took the book, flipped through its pages and focused himself on reading.

This book talked about a certain civilization that was once born in this desert world.

The civilization in question was an orthodox magic-type civilization, telling the story of its journey to the peak of prosperity over 13,000 years.

At the time, this civilization was connected to several billion worlds, and its people were able to freely travel to and from several World Layers at will.

All of a sudden, this civilization stopped their outward exploration.

-------they found out that the world they were born in was a Prehistoric World.

So they decided to instead explore the secrets of their own homeworld.

A few years later.

Over a single night, the entire civilization collapsed.

The billions of worlds connected to them before completely lost contact with them.

Several days later, because of their curiosity, the Combatants of other worlds arrived to check the situation.

They discovered that the entire civilization had collapsed, leaving nothing but countless ruins on this world.

Every single living being was dead.

The world simply began its cycle anew.

The scene at the time caused all the witnesses to shake in their boots.

A glorious, thriving civilization suddenly came to an end without any warnings.

Gu Qing Shan closed the book and slightly scowled.

[Would you like to read something else?] the book asked.

Gu Qing Shan looked ahead again.

The queue was still slowly moving along.

"Yes. Please give me another book" he replied.

The book flew back to the sky before another book descended in front of Gu Qing Shan.

Reading this book, Gu Qing Shan once again saw another journey of this world's destruction.

As he stood in the queue, he finished reading several books, in which this world was always being destroyed and reformed, repeating itself.

No matter if it was a Combatant or a civilization, those who occupied this world all met a terrible end.

People gradually understood.

This Prehistoric World was most likely hiding a sort of strange 'curse', or something of similar nature.

And no one dared to approach this world anymore.

Until 1700 years ago.

The owner of the black market came to this world.

He gave up on ruling this world and only built a black market here.

From the very start, nothing bad ever happened to those who came here purely for transaction purposes.

And because of the owner's might, no one wanted to risk their lives by trying anything.

The owner of the black market also didn't interfere with the various Combatants who arrived to study this world.

He allowed those Combatants to come and go as they pleased, freely studying the secret of the world.

So those Combatants also had no reason to provoke the black market.

In fact, due to its existence here, the Combatants' rest and supplies during their period of research were supported by the black market instead.

Just like that, the black market won the approval of many.

As time passed, the black market grew more and more prosperous.

These were the events of the most recent 1000 years.

Gu Qing Shan closed the book and let the book fly back into the sky.

This time, he didn't ask for a new book.

The prepared guards attacked him all at once without holding back.

The lanky man's expression changed.

He only managed to turn into a huge blob of dark substance before being eliminated without mounting any retaliation.

The dark substance that made up his body collapsed and scattered, disappearing like smoke in the wind.

After dealing with the creature, the guards slowly made their way back.

One of the guards asked the Life Observer: "Sir, what's the situation?"

The Life Observer responded: [A bastard who carries Worlds Apocalypse Online: Kindling. I could smell the scent of an Order from miles away]

The guard appeared a bit anxious and spoke: "This is already the 15th one, what exactly is the [Demon King Order] trying to do?"

[Don't care, as long as they're related to an Order, they won't fool me] the Life Observer said.

It then called out to Gu Qing Shan: [Your turn, step forward]

The guards all focused their attention on Gu Qing Shan.

Would two envoys of the [Demon King Order] show up in a row?

They once again gripped their weapons tight.

Gu Qing Shan casually stepped forward and placed his hand on the silver book.

I'm not carrying the [Demon King Order].
But I have carried the [Demon King Order], [Angel Order] as well as [Life Order] once each.
Can this book detect that?

Gu Qing Shan felt a bit tense.

Soon enough, he felt a power flowing from the book into his body and made a round trip around it.

This was probably the Life Observer's probing.

Gu Qing Shan sneaked a glance around.

The guards' breathing calmed down as their grip on their weapons loosened slightly.

They couldn't help but all smiled at another person's misfortune.

The [Life Order] was supposed to be the method to help novices quickly gain strength.
Unfortunately, with the advent of the path to Godhood, the [Life Order] was broken by the seven Gods' preparations, turning into power for the figure of light.
And this novice just happened to be traveling through the space vortex when that happened, that really is unlucky.
Being able to make it here without being devoured by void monsters is already quite a feat.

However, this also makes him clean.

The 900 million World Layers alliance's Profession Committee had always been strict in their work, so there shouldn't be any problems with a novice who passed their test.

Gu Qing Shan looked at the group to see that they were all grinning brightly.

He could only shrug and smile bitterly as he spoke: "Can't help it, it's my luck"

Hearing that, the guards' grins became even bigger.

[Get in, hapless fellow, hope your luck turns around] the Life Observer told him.

"Thanks"

Gu Qing Shan walked past it.

As he walked, he was still using his inner sight to carefully observe the guards.

Only to see that the guards really did shift their attention away from him onto the next person.

「Scritch! Scritch!」The twenty plus spiders caught in the explosion were in a state of upheaval as they cried out in agony. No matter what kind of state they were in, however, they were still unable to attack Nie Yan and Tang Yao.

"I'm out of mana." Tang Yao gazed at his mana bar that was almost completely bereft of any colour. He still had enough to cast a few Arcane Missiles, but he wouldn't be able to cast anything like Flame Explosion.

After hearing Tang Yao's words, Nie Yan recalled something; Meteor was a spell that voraciously consumed mana. That fact that Tang Yao was able to cast it was already quite impressive. Not to mention, he even had a little bit of mana left over to cast other spells!

Besides the mana consumption, Meteor also required Talismans which weren't cheap either. Therefore, if he was to continue casting this spell while grinding monsters, then Tang Yao would find his funds being quickly eaten away.
