Kevin Mannis was searching for items for his antique store.  He found an estate auction of items from a Holocaust survivor who has passed at the fine old age of 103.  He won a lot that contained hundreds of dollars of items for the store, including a locked wine cabinet that the late woman's granddaughter called 'The Dubbuk Box". Even though Kevin is Jewish, and knew what a dybbuk was, he took the box and other items from the sale back to his store.
When everything was stowed in the store's basement, Kevin went to work on the brass lock that held the box shut. When he broke the clasp, the doors opened.  Inside, Kevin found some odd trinkets that he chalked up to being the items of a sentimental old woman, and didn't think anything of the box beyond it being an old wine cabinet.
Jane Howerton, Kevin's sales assistant, was tidying up the basement before opening one day when she got the feeling something was watching her.  She had spent hours in the basement alone before, even to the point of being able to walk throught it in the dark, but never had she felt that sensation of being watched.  When Jane stepped away to answer the phone, she heard a noise, and knew something was wrong. When she went to investigate, glass started breaking.  Lights she had turned off came back on. She called Kevin, begging him to come back to the store. It sounded like something was taking a baseball bat to the inventory. When Kevin finally got there, the wrought-iron door into the basement is locked. He hadn't locked it. On the other side, the lights were out.  The light switch was useless. Pulling a flashlight, Kevin went to find Jane.  All of the four-foot fluorescent bulbs had been cast to the ground. Other light bulbs were shattered. When he finally found Jane, she swore at him and walked out, never to return. Kevin blamed Jane for the damage, as he could see no other explanation.
Later that October, Kevin thought he'd found the perfect birthday gift for his mother: the box. Kevin was called away shortly after giving her the box. Ida examined the box, opening the doors. She felt a cold evil from it, and it kept her from moving or speaking. Kevin returned to find his mother incapacitated by a stroke. Kevin saw the terror in his mother's eyes.
Kevin realized that the common denominator in the situation was the box. It was time to sell it. An older couple bought the box, only to leave it back at the store's door within days saying the box had an "odd darkness about it". Since it wouldn't otherwise sell, Kevin put the box in a storage unit behind his house until he could figure something out. All that did was cause Kevin nightmares of a friend--any friend--turning into a violent hag who would beat him up. Kevin awoke with bruises. Every night, the nightmares came. That finally convinced Kevin that the box was cursed.
Doing what anyone would do with a cursed antique, Kevin put it up on eBay, hoping someone with occult knowledge might be able to properly dispose of it. He referred to it as a dybbuk box, and disclosed everything that had been happening. College student Brian Grubbs noticed that his roommate Sam was checking out the listing. About three weeks later, Brian had come home for lunch. No sooner did he set foot in the house than he was hit with the overwhelming smell of urine. He walked back into the kitchen, and was face-to-face with the box. Sam, in a fit of curiosity, had bought the box.
Sam began recording his experiences in a blog. The box also became a focal point for house parties, including a moment when Sam thought it would be funny to stick a girl's hand into the opened box. The boys thought they were playing innocent pranks. They didn't believe it was haunted, until the electronics began wigging out. Sam had to replace his laptop. Other electronics in the house began dying every day. One morning, another of Brian's roommates woke with heavily bloodshot eyes. Bugs were crawling all over the box, in the living room, up the walls, everywhere. Sam grew more reclusive, noting in his blog that he was seeing things. Sam began trying to get rid of the box.
Jason Haxton, a director in the local medical museum, was fascinated by Sam's blog.  He was interested in obtaining the box, trying to find a scientific basis for the things that were happening to Sam.  Sam put the box up on eBay, and Jason was on the case. He gave Sam twice what he'd paid for it. Jason scanned the box for contaminants, but all he found was the dripping of wax on the front door.  It looked as though the box had been used in a ritual of some sort.
Within days of the box arriving at the museum, the computers began crashing.  Weeks of work was lost. The light bulbs around the box began going out. Sudden illnesses affected the staff. They made Jason aware that the box was no longer welcome in the museum. Jason took the box, locking it into the trunk of his truck. Jason began dreaming of the hags every time he tried to sleep.
One night, Jason and his son were watching TV when his son saw something. Jason looked over, and saw a black mass behind his son. Neither of them could figure out what on earth it could have been.
Jason decided that the box needed to be isolated and "sealed" again. He took it to the basement of an unused rental property, left it there, and locked the door. He came home and took a ritual bath to cleanse himself of the evil of the box. It didn't work.  Suddenly, he felt something tearing inside him. He began vomiting mucus. Outside the door, his wife was panicked over a patch of bloody poison ivy.
Jason decided to call Kevin Mannis.
Kevin went back to the house where he'd bought the box. There, he met Sophie, the cousin of the old woman who'd passed away. Sophie told him the story of the box.  Prior to World War II, séances were something of a rage. Sophie's cousin had made a makeshift Ouija board with embroidery on a handkercheif. During one of the séances, the group contacted what they thought was a dybbuk. It haunted them as it tried to get them to bring it across. The girls used the box to trap the dybbuk once it had come across to our world.
Using that knowledge, Jason contacted rabbis and found the best way to seal the box. It has been hidden away for seven years. No one has reported further activity…so far. For now, it is safe.

A lone child, in the middle of a white desert, cries. His cries echo, filling the desert with his moans. Without a person in sight, the child's fate seems almost decided. Yet he continues to walk, in hopes of an impossible salvation.

The boy doesn't know his name nor where he is. A lost soul wandering the world. No possessions of his own except for a pair of ragged pants spoiled with sweat and dirt.

The boy's walk seems never-ending, his thirst empowered by the heat that swarms his body. It was as if the sun was determined to strangle him, holding his throat in its blistering palms. 

After hours of walking, the boy falls. No ounce of strength left in his small body, scrapped by the harsh white desert sand. Slowly the desert heat disappears, replaced by a cool chill. The boy feels an ever waking urge for rest overtaking him, but he resists. He knows that if he falls asleep here, that he would never wake up.

As the boy slowly musters up the strength to stand up, falling on his knees more times than one can count, he catches a small glimpse of a puddle. Crystal clear like that of a finely crafted mirror, the small puddle was the salvation he was looking for.

The boy pushes every exhausted ounce of his body, pushing himself to the puddle's feet. The puddle represented far more than a small amount of water, it represented life.

Cupping his hands in the puddle, the boy tried to satisfy his thirst as he brought the water to cracked lips, but the moment he came in contact with it something unexpected occurred.

His entire body was pulled into the small puddle, which resembles more of an ocean from the inside.

The boy tried to emerge from the ocean, but it was of no use as he slowly sank. The surprise had prevented him from taking a deep breath, leading to his almost instantaneous loss of oxygen.

Water rushed through the boy's throat, replacing the air like a storming flood dragon. The boy continued to struggle, wrestling in the water like a wild mongoose but he passed out within the next few moments.

Darkness. That was all that he saw. That was all that surrounded him. That was all that was left.

The boy felt terribly alone as if he was destined to spend eternity in the darkness. No matter how much he searched, all he found was more darkness. Everlasting.

That was until…

That was until he finally came across something. An object in his path. A wooden box with lines that seemed to converge in the shape of a screaming face.

The boy didn't know why, but he was deathly afraid of the box. Not the kind of fear one feels when they meet a predator or at the risk of losing something important. No, this fear was indescribable. The kind of fear that hurt him to the core. A deep, powerful ache that overtime withered his very soul. 

He didn't know why, but he was drawn to the box. He felt like no matter his fear he needed to touch the box. To possess it. A type of greed that made him go mad with excitement.

But the moment the excitement rises it was counteracted by the fear again.

The boy felt conflicted. On one side he felt, no he knew that the box was wrong. An object he should avoid at any costs. On the other hand, he desired the box like nothing before. Something at the back of his mind told him that if he owned the box his dreams would be within his grasp.

Just as the boy was about to make his decisions, a shocking realization came to his mind. What were his dreams? What was the cause for his overwhelming lust towards obtaining the box? Why was he even faced with the box?

The boy decided to leave the box, to let it go. Not because of his nerve-shattering fear towards the mysterious object, but rather because he didn't understand the feelings he felt towards the box. 

His inner-turmoil made no sense, so there was no point in involving himself with the box.

Turned away from the box, the boy took small, slow steps away from the box. Each step slowly gained a bit more strength than the last, a bit more power. Without even realizing it, the boy was running with his very last breath away from the box.

He felt as if he could just get away, he would be alright. That he would be fine. But it was of no use, since when the boy looked back to see if he could still see the box in his trail, he saw the box a few feet away from himself. 

He was right where he started.

Streams of tears started to fall down the boy's eyes as he resigned himself to his fate. He fell onto his knees, all the strength in his body depleted. As empty as the darkness surrounding him.

The stream continued as he tried to crawl away, but without even looking he know he was where he began.

His fate had shackled him to that spot, destined alone with that box. Forever in isolation with its dismay.

The screaming face on the wooden box slowly morphed to resemble the boy's crying one. It was ridiculing the boy, laughing at him.

 Or maybe not. Maybe the box was sympathetic with the boy, trying to make him feel as if he wasn't alone.

It was impossible to know the box's true intentions.

The box slowly floated to the boy's front. Without a lock, it was ready to be opened.

The boy had no strength to open the box, but thinking about it was enough to power the box. 

Lights starts to sprawl from the box's light opening, replacing the darkness in the world. It gave the world light.

But for some reason the boy wasn't happy, missing the darkness that he once so feared. Just as the boy was about to see the contents of the wooden box, two orbs pierced through the sky.

The two orbs, one black while the other white, suppressed the box. As the wooden box was forced to close, the white dessert reemerged in the boy's surrounding.

The boy stared at the two orbs. His saviors. He didn't know why, but he had a feeling that the orbs wanted him to pick between them. Unsure of his decision, the boy turned to the sky.

"Oh wondrous Sky, which should I pick?"

The sky above the boy rumbled and scattered as the clouds within it gathered and diverged. The sky gave the boy a generous smile, "I cannot decide for you little one."

Disappointed by his answer, the little boy frowned. He was on the verge of crying as tears started gather around doll-like eyes. "But why Sky? What if I regret my decision."

This time the Sky remained silent, with Earth taking its turns to speak. The nearly endless desert sand flustered up and down like a roaring ocean wave as the Earth spoke, "This is your choice to make my dear. If we were to decide for you, you would end up resenting heavens no matter the conclusion."

Left with no other choice, the boy turned his vision to the two orbs. The orbs shocked the boy the longer he looked at them. Each spectacular in their own right.

The dark orb was blistering storm of darkness that seemed capable of swallowing the world whole. It contained within it the past. The light orb on the other hand, was a gentle wave of tranquility. It contained within the future.

Contemplating his own decision, the boy remembered the wooden box beneath. Compared to its past terrifying nature, the now suppressed monstrosity, seemed more pathetic than anything else. It had failed its purpose and was now nothing more than a lie.

As the box looked around it was a tree that was next to a wooden bench in the corner of the college field and rushed over there seeing that the land was in top condition for the milli-E-vine.

"Only holy events occur in this room Sparkles" Catra said grinning. Adora narrowed her eyes at Catra giving her a face that said 'you know that isn't true' Catra smiled and wiggles her eyebrows, Glimmer just cleared her throat. 

"ANYWAYS!" She said wanting to remind the lovers that she was present. "A package came for you Adora" She teleported somewhere and then teleported back with a rather large box. "The people of Thymor wanted to thank She-Ra for Saving the planet" she placed the box on the floor and placed her hands on her hips. Adora looked surprised but smiled 

"They're so nice" she said getting off the bed and opening the box. Catra got off the bed and hovered over Adora who was crouching to see what was in the box, Glimmer stood near by to see too.  It was filled with drawings by little children , statues of wood, and little figurines all of She-Ra. "Aweeee" Adora said looking at a drawing of a little girl with writing on the back. "It's pretty embarrassing though." She said grabbing what she could and walked into a closet where she kept all the things people sent her. Catra and Glimmer grabbed the remaining things and followed Adora. 

After Glimmer had left Adora went back into the closet to rearrange things. Catra laid down on the bed and stared at the box. Her tail moving in anticipation. Box box box box box box box she kept repeating in her head. She got up and circled the box  box box box box box she put on foot into the big box and then the other and soon enough she sat in the box purring. Adora came out of the closet and was confused because she couldn't see Catra.

"Catra?" She said looking around. A pair of ears popped out from the box and she began to hear loud purring. "Are you in the box??" She exclaimed walking over to see Catra sitting in the box. Catra began to bite at the edges of the box. Adora shook her head and rolled her eyes "Catra get out of there" she said reaching to grab her. Catra leaned away from her hands.

"No. I'm staying in the box" She declared, Adora scoffed 

"You're not even going to eat breakfast? Or cuddle with me?" Catra shook her head.

"This is my home now." She said determined looking far off. Adora rolled her eyes

"You're being silly" she said sitting down besides the box that contained the person she loved the most. Catra only looked at her and grinned.

"You're jealous I claimed the box and you didn't." She said. Adora shook her head and leaned against the box.

"Whatever you say." Catra leaned her head on Adoras and they both looked at the view of the balcony. 

"I love you weirdo" Adora said. Catra purred and lightly rubbed her head against Adoras.

"Which of these is for your son? Golden one?" he asked the Emperor. The Golden one seemed more luxurious. So there was a chance that it was for his real son. 



"The answer is for you to decide. At the moment, none of these boxes belong to any of you. I'm giving you the first chance to choose to make it fair to you. But you can't see what's inside them. It can only be your luck and destiny what you receive," the Emperor told Long Chen calmly.


'Interesting. So I get to choose, but it's just a random guess without seeing what's inside. There's no benefit of selecting first since I don't even know what I'm selecting,' Long Chen thought as he stepped closer to the boxes.


He stopped before the golden box first before he gazed at the Emperor, "Can I see touch them?"


"You can," the Emperor nodded, giving Long Chen permission to touch the boxes while wondering if there was even any use to touch the box?


The boxes didn't matter. What mattered was what was inside the box. 


Long Chen touched the Golden box and felt its smooth texture. His fingers gently grazed over the box that was lying in front of him. 


Touching the box was only an excuse though, his main purpose was to get as close as the box as he possibly could to give his Divine Sense as batter range. He was curious if he could see inside the box.


It was a failure. His Divine Sense failed to penetrate the box. Just what was it made of that even his Divine Sense couldn't see inside?


As he failed, he realized that it would be useless to try it on the silver box as well since that could have the same characteristics, but he still tried it. 


He removed his hand from the golden box and moved over to the side to the silver box, and tried the same thing.


Even though his Divine Sense once again failed to see inside the box, he was still able to find a difference. This box seemed smooth, just like the other box from the distance, but his finger touched it; he realized that it was unusually rough, so much so that it seemed somewhat strange.


"Have you decided?" The Emperor asked Long Chen after giving him some time.


"It's tough. But yeah, I decided," Long Chen answered, nodding his head.

"The Silver one?" the Emperor asked, frowning. A smile formed on his face. "You sure you don't want to go with the gold one? It looks better and more premium."


"As you said, the box looks premium, but I'm not taking the boxes. I'm trying to choose the treasure inside. I don't judge a book by its cover," Long Chen answered as he gazed at the silver box. 


He had decided to go with the unorthodox silver box that seemed a bit strange even though the gold box seemed more luxurious. 



"Alright. The Silver box is yours," the Emperor let out as he waved his hand again. The Gold box disappointed, leaving only the Silver box there. 


"Can I open it now?" Long Chen inquired, wondering if he could open it right away now that the box was his. 


"Of course. It's yours. Open it," the Emperor said as he sat straight, excited for Long Chen's response after he saw the treasure. 


That man hadn't reacted as he had expected when he heard about the treasures, but this should be different when Long Chen actually saw it, he thought. 


Long Chen stepped closer to the box and opened it slowly. The box seemed a bit heavy. Even after all the strength he possessed, he still had a hard time opening it. 


It took a bit of effort, but he did manage to open the box, which was hard to open. 


The Emperor nodded in appreciation as he saw Long Chen open the box so soon. He had thought that Long Chen was going to take longer considering how the box was, but he took less time than Lu Junwei had assumed. 



As Long Chen opened the box, he saw a black cloth inside that was properly folded. 


What was it? He wondered. He had thought it would be a weapon or something but a piece of cloth? Was Lu Junwei kidding him?


He reached his hand inside the box and pulled the cloth out, finally getting a good view at it. 


It was a robe. He was given a robe, but he could feel that it was only a Gold Grade artifact. What the heck? This guy was messing with him?


What inheritance treasures? It was a freaking gold-grade robe. His Phoenix Blood Robe was on a much higher level and a Heaven Grade Robe. This seemed too useless before that. 


"What is this?" He decided to ask the Emperor. 


"It's the inheritance you chose," the Emperor told Long Chen as he smiled.

Long Chen's expression proved to him that the guy did feel a bit of regret. That means he did care about the treasures. That gave a bit of satisfaction to Emperor Lu Junwei, who was constantly wondering why Long Chen didn't care for the treasures. 


Finally, he felt like Long Chen was normal. 


"Regret?" Long Chen asked the Emperor, wondering if what he was feeling was actually regret. 


He fell in deep thought. Was he actually regretting over a treasure?


After a deep thought, he finally realized that it was a bit different. What he was feeling wasn't regret but something else. 


"It's not regret but a bit of disappointment to see my luck failing me," he answered. "Anyway, what's this robe? Why is your inheritance a Gold Grade Robe? Isn't it too low grade?" 


"Is it?" The Emperor asked as he rubbed his chin with an amused look on his face. 


"Whatever, it's not like I need treasures in any case," Long Chen let out as he placed the robe inside his ancient ring. 

"The trials ahead to prove my worth? I'll crush them !! Enemies? I'll slaughter them!! "
