I'm not sure why I hadn't thought of this earlier as most my stories are basically Fantasy with a capital F so let me get right into it. What separates 'Fantasy' from 'Contemporary' works isn't just where it's set but also the level of contrivances that are allowed.

As I've said before, every story allows a certain level of contrived scenarios where Destiny and Fate are actually a thing. Fantasy stories in particular work best when you go all in on your imagination.

I know you all have had it drilled into your brains that a certain level of 'realism' is needed even in a fantasy story. However, what most mean by that isn't adding the laws of physics to your story but keeping it internally consistent with clear laws and limits.

I'm pretty sure you guys don't need a rundown in how society works because fantasy societies work the same way expect they have the word 'Magic' added to them. Do NOT rip off Elves and Dwarves from the Lord of the Rings and flex the creative muscles in your brain a little. There's no limit to the kind of magical races you can make in a Fantasy!

This also applies to magic. However, people only remember limitations more than what a persons using Magic System can generally do since 'magic is omnipotent unless proven otherwise'. There will be no narrative stakes or tension if you can't even make sure random nobodies aren't shooting off nukes and your main character isn't invincible beyond measure.

There are people who tend to overthink about how to write Fantasy since it's such a popular genre everyone and their dog is writing. You don't need someone else's guideline to write a Fantasy since most good Author's base them out of existing literature of the past or modern ones they are retelling using their own tropes and characters.

You'll never get anywhere if you need someone else to flex your creativity when looking into the past brings forth many mystical stories and myths that all wouldn't be possible without a little bit of magic sprinkled onto them. The classic LitRPG genre with stuff like Guilds and Adventures is popular to use nowadays but only because you don't have to explain much in a story that's so easy to figure out.

If you're going to use the LitRPG setting with dungeons and dragons, make sure you make it character driven and focus on people rather than explaining how fireballs work. The only reason Slime Reincarnation (That Time I Reincarnating As A Slime) or Sword Dad (I Was A Sword When I Reincarnated) are so popular is because behind the Power Fantasy are well-written and diverse characters.

If you want to write your own Fantasy World unique to only you, then it's best to start researching ways to ground it with your audience. These days people want to read about 'people' more than someone dumping lore about a fictional world they don't care about. Even pure Fantasy stories needs a protagonist that can be the reader's eyes and ears.

Now, thanks to the Isekai Boom, you may think that a main character HAS to be reincarnated for basically no reason whatsoever. However, that is ill-advised as people reincarnated for trivial reasons bore the audience to death. There's this Fantasy story about this non-reincarnated girl who was raised by Death himself in a regular medieval magic world, causing her to be a mix of creepy and cute all at the same time. This is an example of the kind of plots which are interesting BECAUSE their MC is a member of this world but special rather than some random guy from Earth who just so happens to be Isekai'd.

Isekai can be done right when the main character's rebirth or transportation into this world holds some sort of meaning. However, it can turn into a very boring story with maybe one or two gimmicks if you aren't even thinking of an ending for it.

Getting back to the main point: You seriously won't be able to write a Fantasy properly unless you at least know something about characters (If you haven't already figured that out already).

How the life of this character, under the special upbringing that only those of your Fantasy World go through, is interesting to the reader depends of where you take the tropes of your regular Fantasy.

You can go the 'Epic Fantasy' route, then copying the Hero's Journey is fine as long as you switch it up a bit. As long as you understand the fundamentals of a Hero's Journey and not look at it as the ONLY WAY TO TELL A STORY then you're on the right track.

Those who are wondering what a Hero's Journey is can find the link at the bottom. Also try searching for Dan Harmon's Story Circle for a more character driven version of it on YouTube. Anyway, this trope is basically the origin of the whole 'Chosen One' trope.

As for what I meant by Epic Fantasy, it is actually quite beloved type of story for many who love the Fantasy genre. It could be about the journey about a chosen one destined to defeat a Big Baddy like Eragon, Lord of the Rings, etc. There are even shorter and more simplified versions of this which is basically where the 'Hero Vs Demon King' trope came from. As long as there's a quest fraught with danger then people would love to read about a chosen one being able to win against their foes.

Another route you can take is Dark Fantasy, where all the lovely tales of HP Lovecraft comes from. His stories may lean more on the spectrum of supernatural tales about Dark Gods and Cults but the way everything seems to be ripped out of a nightmare is what I'm trying to focus on. If a regular Fantasy is like a dream then a Dark Fantasy is one you'd rather avoid since the world is screwed up.

And I don't mean the characters are screwed up or insane by any means, I literally mean either the Magic System or how society works is genuinely screwed up. Read 'Dungeon Seeker' as an example of this (Warning: Don't read it if you don't want to pollute your innocent mind with all the corruption in this story). Either way, it could be the Magic System relies on the blood of orphans, or it could be you have to kill a loved every time you cast a spell. The main point is that this Fantasy World is just hell.

Now, I could move on to Urban Fantasy and other sub-genres, but that would be wasting my time and yours since TV Tropes exists for a reason. Just remember what I've said and have a clear goal in beginning and end planned for your character's development and you'll be fine. There's nothing better than a story that's focused after all.

This is a story I worked on ages ago that has been refined and edited by adding foreshadowing to events while also simplifying the power system better than before. This story can be considered a prequel to An Adventure Beyond Greatness as it takes place years prior to the events of that story.

Short Synopsis:
After retiring from the battlefield, my life became empty and lifeless. The regrets of my past haunt me in my sleep. Then a change occurred, a King from another world summoned me to fight for his kingdom, but I died even before I could give him my answer. Now, after a fake God allowed me to reincarnate (albeit imperfectly) with my memories intact, into a world filled with magic and swords.

Long Synopsis:
This is about a flawed protagonist who only knew to rely on others and not socialise who gets a second chance to change himself in order to live the life he aimed for in his past life. The narrator isn’t exactly trustworthy since it is purely in his bias perspective while other perspectives given by others fill in the blanks that he either leaves out or twists to suit the situation.

The story itself can be considered a parody of Isekai’s classic tropes which are given a sense of reality as time goes by. As there exists no ‘Demon Lord’, there is also no black and white, only characters opinions and counter-opinions throughout the story.

POSITIVE REVIEW :

Tl;dr - Reincarnated mechanical engineer brings about industrial revolution in the Medieval Era (imagine going on an invention spree in the 14th century introducing steam engines, Newton's laws, Einstein's theories etc. Become the greatest scientist in the history and rule over the world), with the help of witches that are falsely called the devils incarnate by the Church. The world building is great, the translator is amazing and this story is a must read!!

The first thing I will say is that the title doesn't justify the story. If I was to sum up the story till now, it would be 'Engineer in Another World'. An interesting theory XD
The MC is level headed, smart, and he thinks like a student of science, and not like some stubborn and foolish idiot. He is nither arrogant nor a coward.
This is a story of an engineer being reincarnated in another universe, as a good-for-nothing prince and will fight against his siblings for the throne. And he uses science and stuff from his previous life in this world, which is still in the era of kingdoms using swords and crossbows, and becomes the overlord of the world.
Imagine you being reincarnated in 1500s. I will invent electricity, machines and everything I've learnt, and name then all after me. I will become the God of the masses and get worshipped by the whole world XD. Our MC is not that arrogant. He is humble and respects everyone, unlike a lot of novels. And there are witches in the story. From the sypnosis we get that the witches are hated by the whole world and our MC fights for them. I won't spoil it for you guys.
From the story so far, I think there will be lots of scheming, planning, plotting and conning others in the future chapters. Till now there has been no mention of things like cultivation levels or anything such. I don't think it will be a story where the MC is nuts about cultivation and becoming an immortal, which is different from a lot of xianxia novels, and I think this is one of the really good points about this story. The author is doing a good job at building the world, and I would recommend this novel very much

CRITICAL REVIEW :

Release that Witch is a surprising read in a sea of webnovels. It isn't perfect, and I'll elaborate on that, but it's above the garbage often seen. There won't be plot spoilers in this review except the obvious "Yeah he helps witches" so continue with that in mind. Enjoy my mini-novel review.
Unlike most CN webnovels, RtW distances itself from Wuxia and enters the magic flintlock genre. With a setting reminiscent of medieval times, you've got a cast of knights and nobles and peasants. This isn't a new concept. In fact, it's old and worn. But it's how it's done despite the tropes, and for the most part, the author managed well. The twist is that the protagonist comes from our modern day, and this twist carries the story in both obvious ways and more subtle ones.
Had the first chapter never mentioned the origins of the protagonist, it would've been hard to realize at a glance. The name of this regular guy is soon forgotten as he takes upon the role of Roland, the fourth prince, and you will probably only know him as such. The previous Roland was a fool, as often these stories make them be, so when our modern day hero takes over, it becomes a familiar journey of climbing to kingship. He no slave or farm boy, but his status as nobility begins low relative to his siblings, and gives us, the reader, something to cheer for.
This brings up the advantages of a modern day man in a period lacking knowledge. But as you can imagine by the title, what keeps this in the fantasy genre is the inclusion of witches, giving Roland cards to play on his path to glory, literally and figuratively.
Witches are ostracized as devils and killed. Their powers are clearly seen and isn't mystical voodoo no one believes. And our protagonist becomes their friend. Whether it's because he's interested in a scientific standpoint or he's a friendly guy isn't important. What's important is the role witches play in the grand scheme of things.
Roland's Border Town becomes a bastion for them. His kindness and acceptance toward witches attracts a flock who aid and make possible things that would otherwise be impossible. Like many novels in epic fantasy, it becomes too much, and details become lost. Because of the story's scope, beside a select few witches, many of them take a backseat and are reduced to tools to help Roland grow his empire. This is a shame because the cast of said witches is fun and varied. Unfortunately you'll only familiarize yourself with certain ones, and the rest are non-existent until the protagonist has use of their power.
Those powers have an important role, and it's here that magic and technology mix. Roland's ability to rise up depends on magic, boosting his ability to quickly reach the industrial age of guns and manufacturing. You'd think one might overwhelm the other, but balance is kept in check. There are clear advantages to witches, yet they're no army. By helping witches, he's given the chance to command an army unlike any seen before, and with his knowledge, the overwhelming advantages he has crushes the opposition and gives Roland a legitimate claim to the throne.
I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, he should know things others do not. On the other hand, he knows too much. Roland was a mechanical engineer before, but apparently he knows chemistry, biology, the education system, war tactics, shipbuilding, and who knows what else. Basic knowledge is fine. What this guy has is unacceptable, however.
"Hey, I'm going to write a chemistry textbook telling you every formula in the world. By the way I'm going to jot down a 500 page manual on how2biology. And I'm going to rewrite an entire play or three, by memory, perfectly. But wait there's more! I'll add in a physics course for free. Did I mention I'm a master plumber, farmer, and blacksmith? Hell, have some music theory too, because I'm a mechanical engineer who took some GE classes and we can all do that while governing an entire city as a full-time job."
Like, what? Some defend this, but there's literally nobody who can do this. Stop trying to "logic" it. Can anyone recite every country in the world by heart, right now, and every state and city and province? Can they list the periodic table in its entirety 20 years after they've long forgotten their high school chemistry class? Do they have seven phDs and a photographic memory? Literally autism. And if you don't want to admit that, then Roland's a Mary Sue, period. Frankly, being overpowered is fine. But let's call this story what it is and not pretend it's anything otherwise. Release that Witch is a power fantasy for teenage and young adult men.
Only in foreign webnovels do protagonists get a pass for being overpowered, which is called bad writing anywhere else. Even Superman has his Kryponite, whether it's a rock or vulnerable friends he must care for. Millions are enthralled by something like Game of Thrones because the characters are human. They are flawed and morally gray men and women who may not survive to the end. Protagonist-chan? He might as well be an alien, because nobody is perfect.
And this is an issue because I've never been concerned for Roland's well-being. He's perfect, and thus boring. While he's no fighter, he doesn't need to be. He is in no danger because he's not one step ahead but twenty steps. I'm quite certain that a witch introduced hundreds of chapters ago, who has never done a damned thing, will suddenly become relevant at a critical point. Then he's going to say, "Just as planned." But because the author didn't give our hypothetical witch any show time, it'll look like our prince pulled it out of his behind. Rest assured, Roland has his bases covered with a plethora of beautiful women surrounding him. He doesn't need to worry about them, either, since they're also ridiculous.
What's also boring is how dull his knowledge can be. It drags the story down when the author harps on about molecules. Imagine a football fan yapping in your ears about his favorite team while the season is airing. Now imagine you not giving a shit, since you'd rather watch Rick and Morty or Futurama or something. This is what it's like when the author writes about details no one cares about. Your eyes glaze over and you skip entire paragraphs as terms you've never heard of are talked about. Please stop. Go back to the story.
Speaking of story, like many in epic fantasy, there are multiple factions with intrigue and espionage in the background. There's a cabal of witches, the church, and the princes and princesses vying for control. The writer touches upon all of them in a third person omniscient point of view, meaning you see what happens at a bird's eye distance and hear the thoughts of all characters. The reader is in the know of things our protagonist is not, and of events he doesn't witness. Possibly good, probably bad. Although we learn more about the world than Roland does, we don't get to experience the surprises in store for him in the future because we'll be in the loop. I personally lean toward this being a negative because this just becomes info dumping and telling rather than showing. Where's the mystery if the author introduces a new character, then immediately tells us his secrets? His life story, his children's stories, and the name of the gopher in his front yard--there goes whatever interest I have in said person.
Another negative is the grammar. For a translated novel, it's okay. But being readable doesn't mean it's correct, and if you're someone who understands basic grammar rules, little things will bother you. Punctuation and dialogue tags, for example, or the incessant use of passive voice. The editors could do a better job. For the last time, you can smile dialogue. When will they learn?
Now I'm going to talk about what this story is and isn't. Despite the roster of witches, all of whom are women, this is not a harem. It has the potential, but it isn't and hopefully won't be. This story is also small on romance. Because of the cast size, Roland doesn't have time to dote upon characters you may or may not ship together. It's present and there, but it's a subplot. Though some may praise the romance, I can't, because I don't see it becoming more than superficial. There's maybe one chapter focusing purely on relationships as of the 200s. How this is good romance is beyond me. RtW is and will always be about Townbuilding 101 and the politics that come with it.
If the main course of the novel is reaching a modern day quality of life, then witches and magic and such are like the side dish to add flavor to the meal. If one witch is salt and another is pepper, you'll get a lot of salt and pepper. But again, because of the story's scope, you're not going to get much paprika or garlic or chives. They're there, but only as one-dimensional additions. Let's not mention the named knight or three. Unfortunately, you may forget who half the cast is. But if you love the few characters that get the screentime of an A-list actor, you're in for a wild ride.
Anyhow, if I had to recommend a Chinese webnovel to a reader who doesn't like Chinese webnovels, this story would be my first suggestion. At the same time, it's so far away from the typical CN story that it almost doesn't qualify as one, yet technically it is. There's no saving face or retarded "can't see Mount Tai" or wow, he can't decide whether he should laugh or cry 100x. It's not a story of self-improvement by getting lucky finding an artifact, then senseless slaughter. It's a standard western epic fantasy that also suffers from CN webnovel tropes, and whether that's what you want or not, that's what you'll get. It's unique, but not unique. It's done okay, but certainly not groundbreaking.
I cannot get over the detachment I feel for most characters. I like the characters placed in the backseat, never to be heard from again. I like the subplots that'll never be brought up in the future. Instead I read pointless specifics on topics I couldn't give a rat's ass about. Instead I learn Roland paves some roads, and maybe adds a few more witches I'll forget exists. Worst, I'll never be worried about him because I know the fourth prince will pull through unscathed. Why, then, should I or any reader care what happens? The stakes aren't high. They're as low as the dirt under our feet. And when the hero doesn't struggle to achieve his goals, then he didn't earn those victories. Roland is given them on a silver platter, and suddenly, everything he accomplishes is diminished. Zero tension, because every battle is already won.
That doesn't mean I didn't like it. It's still enjoyable. But the fun factor degrades. So I have to ask myself why I should read this pseudo western fantasy. Why should I read RtW when I can read Patrick Rothfuss? Why should I read RtW when I can read Brandon Sanderson, or George R.R. Martin? These known fantasy authors have been picked up by publishers because their work are proven sellers, and have years of practice under their belt in writing. Release that Witch competes in the same genre, but doesn't have the same polish. So for a webnovel it's above average, but compared to published novels vetted by professionals, it has glaring flaws. By virtue of setting alone comes its own pros and cons.
Lastly, I want to say that the story really drags when the releases slow down. Because it reads differently, the pace is different and does not fit the norm of CN webnovels. If you binge read it, the experience is better, but the translators are not keeping up as of late, and my interest in the story suddenly tanked. And once I let the story sit in my mind for a while, I realized it's really as good as people say it is.
Tl;dr, Release that Witch is pretty good for what it is. Release that Witch is also pretty bad for what it pretends to be.

Everything starts with a unique yet mysterious beginning.

And this is one world that came to be.

The world of Eden.

And therein that world lies one single massive and large continent, surrounded by a vast ocean known as Seanoace.

In this continent, it is divided into five nations, one in the center and the middle of it is the main capital called the Alanova Capital. It is the nation where only the cities and towns of the world population's civilization are.

Also surrounding the capital is a very dark thick forest known as Nekrad Secdur. It's also called as the 'Cursed Dark Forest'.

On the north is known as Baseat, where it is a region and land of rocky mountains.

On the south is Evelan, a grand land of thick greenery and forests.

On the west are Evitan, a hot region of sands and blazing deserts.

And finally on the last nation at the east, is Erivam. A foggy covered land filled with shrouded mists and darkness.

This Eden world is unlike any other world you would ever encounter.

At least not in reality.

For this world is another world full of fantasy and magic.

For this world, there is only not just humans populating it.

There are also elves, dwarves, beast-people, shapeshifters, dhampirs, vampires, merpeople, and lots more of these magical beings and mythical creatures.

All light and dark types, the magic users and non-magic users, and the sentient and non-sentient beings.

Although these many races live or travel in different places among the five nations of the continent of Eden.

Each of the nations had the various residents that live permanently in them.

For the human race, they live in Alanova Capital.

In Baseat in the north region, there lived the beast-people and the dwarves.

In Evelan at the south, there lived the elves, dryads, and nymphs.

In Erivam at the east, there lived the dhampirs, vampires, and dark creatures.

In Evitan at the west, there lived the wild and native-like humans, and shape-shifters.

In the oceans surrounding the continent, there lived the water beings like merpeople and such creatures like that.

Finally, on the forest known as Nekrad Secdur that surrounds Alanova Capital, there lived the darkest type of creatures, like shadow monsters or demon-like terrifying beings that lurk and hide in the cursed dark forest.

This is the world--the world of Eden.

A fantastical magical and also mysterious and mythical world, unlike any other worlds you might know or encounter.

A world where your heart's desires and dreams come true.

And also a world where your worst nightmares and darkest fears come to life.

But in this grand world, this is the place that you surely want to see.

And this is how it all started.

With the origins and births of the fantastical races, its energy of magic, and the most astounding object and heart of it all that had borne the continent of Eden.

This object is known to be called…the Fiery Blade.

And here is how it all begins.

Between writing and giving herself a break, Elaina edited and rewrites everything and making sure that she didn't miss out on any blank pages to write down notes while writing out all contents in her story.

Just as Elaina stretched her arms up and do some home aerobic exercises for a few minutes of her break, she didn't notice that all of her notes and writings into the new book started glowing like a magic as if to etch permanently into the pages.

By the time she had finished doing whatever relaxing exercises she needed to relieve her fatigue, the glowing instantly stopped and the book seemed to look normal again.

Then Elaina sat down again and continued on writing, oblivious and unknowing over the sudden strange happenings that are occurring near her.

After the time had gone by so fast in a passing blur, including the break time to eat meals or relax her mind shortly and then continue writing, it was already late at night and Elaina was so surprised on seeing the time as she turned to look at it.

She instantly stopped writing, as she decides to be done for the day and then continues on the next one tomorrow to the book of her new story.

She closed the book with the pen inside as a bookmark and then she sighed as if instantly exhausted from what she's doing as she went off to change her clothes into sleeping ones and go to sleep.

Hello, this is my first time writing a techno-fantasy but I hope you'll enjoy it. There's a few things to take note of, however.

1. There is action, both melee and ranged, both magic-like and techno-like. In fact, the lines will blur.

2. This world I built is, duh, a mix of 'magic' and science. It's not exactly just magic and science coexisting, no—they are one and the same in this world. Mana rules and bending its limits is what brought about their technology. Magecraft in this world is the building of tech, and Mages are pretty much glorified scientists — it doesn't mean they can't fight, however.

3. This story still has fantasy elements. There are different races and there are dungeons. There are more 'magic-like' weapons than usual Magecraft, like Gears, and there is such things as Spirits. Mana Beasts exist and so too do Robots and Homunculi.

4. This story takes place in a noticeably advanced world, more advanced than our own in pure technological standards but still modern enough in some parts.

In a fantasy world,  one thinks of it as wonderful,  many things to explore,  but a fantasy world,  is just like any this world.  Some are lucky to be born with talent , while some,  aren't.  

In this fantasy world,  there is a saying, "The weak will never never be strong". Why that phrase?  Because in this world,  there's no such thing as hope for the weak. In this world,  there are magic everywhere,  you can easily collect it. The problem is,  how much of it you can contain and control.  

There are some that are great at controlling magic but have low magic storage,   which means that they have weak cores, thus saying that they are weak.  magic cores can never be changed,  while magic control can.  Thus, with weak magic cores, comes weak magic capability.  

It can be said that magic cores symbolises your talent while your magic control symbolises your experience. So, it is up to your luck for you to be strong.  

Finally making a phrase "The weak will never be strong".

But one man,  broke that phrase,  and this... This is the story of that man.

Chapter 6:
I Managed To Grasp







I lost all concept of time in that place, the light spell I had first cast was still going strong without the need for renewal. There were no real signs of any passage of time outside of my need to sleep and eat. The next several 'days' consisted of me waking, eating, and practicing magic until I was exhausted and then sleeping until I woke again. Most of the time I simply fell asleep as soon as I stopped moving. Other times Master talked with me about various ways to clean up my mana usage, giving pointers an how to be more efficient.

It was about the eleventh 'day' that I was able to nearly drain my entire mana pool without feeling like I was going to collapse from exhaustion. Master was quite happy with my rapid development.

"Good good. Now we can start focusing on the really important matters."

I sat down in the chair, I wasn't breathing hard but I certainly felt like I had been running a marathon through the whole Kyoto prefecture. I released my staff, letting it fade away and summoned a glass, using my power to fill it with water and drinking deeply as I listened.

"The Fourth Magic that a Pagemaster must know is Story Magic. This is the magic that brings the stories to life. Unfortunately, there is little we can do to affect it. It is fickle and yet unmovable. It cannot be changed, though it can be diverted or even subverted with the right situation. It is a contradiction and yet it isn't.

The power of Story Magic is that it seeks out things and people that have certain situations happen that allows for events to unfold a certain way, and then it begins to pressure such things to begin the stories it knows to happen. Particularly when those stories feature characters whose names are mere nicknames instead of real ones."

"So like Prince Charming, and Sleeping Beauty, or the Old Witch in the castle?"

"Exactly! They are not actual names but generalizations that the Story Magic can then apply to anyone who fits the description and circumstances. In good news, this means that as long as one knows how to find the story one can be prepared to seal it away.
But in bad news, it means that the story must progress to a certain point so that the story Magic is fully invested in these actors of its tale that it cannot pull away and find a different set of similar circumstances to start over with telling the story."

"Can't we just seal away everything at once?"

Master shook his head. "It's impossible. Each story must be sealed separately, and there is a chance that people in this world are also from the real one as well. Ye overwrote the real world with this one, it doesn't mean that all the people from our world were erased. That and it doesn't help that some stories are based on real-life people. We can't seal them away just because there are stories of them involved with magic."

I sighed and leaned my head back. "This feels really complicated."

"Well, it wouldn't have been this bad if ye hadn't picked the largest genre in creation. Couldn't have chosen medieval or harem fantasy or some subgenre... Had to pick them all."

I lowered my head again in apology, I suppose I really should have thought a little more about that when I had started this huge mess. But it was too late to think about could've and should've.

"So how do we start with all of this then, Master?"

"We'll start with easy ones. Grimm and Aesop have fairly simple tales to work with and should be easy to gather them up quickly."

I made a slight face. Western Fairy tales were not my forte by any means. Most of them I only recall watching D**ney films when I was little and even then I didn't pay attention. "Couldn't we start with Japanese legends?"

"And how many Legends and Tales in Japanese folklore don't involve spirits or gods? Ye don't have the strength or ability to go facing down beings that can wipe the floor with ye without even batting an eye."

I could name a couple that might be simple, but his point was made and I had to acquiesce to it, albeit grudgingly. There were too many that dealt with beings of high power or spirits that might be too hard to seal on the first try. Though there was something we first needed to do.

"So Master… How do we get out of here?"

"That's the easy part.|{SYSTEM OVERRIDE}| |{RELEASE EXIT}|"

I stood there dumbfounded as an opening suddenly appeared, looking between master and the open gateway, doing a double take and then a triple. "I thought you couldn't use magic?"

"It's not really magic. It's the power of The Word, and I didn't say I couldn't I just can't interfere with yer story. We can freely travel between time and locations to a small extent to ensure we can be where we need to be. But once we are in a timeline we can't cross back over a timeframe we're already in."

"So no being in two places at the same time."

"Exactly."

Well, I guess it would be too much of a cheat if that was possible. It might have been useful, but on the other hand probably way too confusing to use and remember being in too many places at once. I was kind of getting a headache thinking about it so I quickly stopped.

"Master, what is going to be our first stop?"

"I can feel the Story Magic starting to move out there, Phintibluis Kingdom. The Gingerbread Man is getting ready to come to life here. It's an easy story to seal and give ye some advanced powers to help make things go easier. We can also work on teaching ye how to sense and get a feel for the power of Story Magic."

I nodded looking out at the across the fantasy landscape before my eyes, trees, and hill spanning across the horizon. Though we were surrounded by trees we managed to be settled on top of a fairly large hill that you could make out some of the surroundings near us. Master seemed to know his directions pretty well.

To the north was a long flowing river that divided the kingdom in half stretching out even beyond the kingdoms that bordered either side of this one.,To the south lay the deep forests home of the ancient battlegrounds of Demons and werewolves. east was more forests and the tips of a castle that was likely the capital of this region. And right behind us and further west lay the village and the Dragon Mountains even further beyond that. Far enough away that you could barely make out the peaks of the highest mountains of the range.

"I don't think we're in Kyoto anymore…" I mutter to myself quietly stepping through the gateway and into the open land before us.

The portal closed as soon as Master landed on my shoulder revealing a small village behind us, fortunately, the time of day seemed to be right in the middle of lunchtime. "First thing we need to do is use the spell of rewrite."

I nodded holding out my hand as I had been taught, instead of grasping for my staff or other items I had crafted for use I gripped into the sheen of reality itself. I wondered why this spell was listed as an ability for me, maybe it was just to be a reminder or some special scripting

"|{Riraito shite}|" There was a freeze around us for a brief moment. Bending reality around myself and Master so that we would be considered normal within this part of the world. The villagers would consider me as a traveling magician with his familiar. Vague memories of seeing us before and knowing we were not hostiles to them. This spell wasn't completely infallible according to Master but it was good enough as long as people didn't start to scrutinize why or how they know us too closely.

A useful safeguard and one that seemed could be cast as many times even if the cover was blown to become someone else. Though there were a few exceptions to this rule, I've been warned. "The main characters of the story will recognize you if you aren't careful enough. Especially ones that have true names. Trying to use Rewrite near any of them after you are exposed will only cause more trouble."

I guess another good point about this kind of magic was that I could also blend in more because even if I was a stranger I was also very clearly a foreigner, walking into the village I could see that everyone else was quite plainly European. I was worried for a moment but I could understand everyone fairly well, to my surprise.

"It's the power of The Word. To understand all languages and written words. Especially when you realize how varied each language can be, it just makes it easier for our job to understand." I could certainly get behind. Never having to worry about my broken English ever again? Yes, please! Even for a cheat, I will gladly accept this kind of power. Now if only I could just go back to high school and ace that exam…

"Guten tag, Herr Blue. So nice to see you again." A rather busty woman called to me as I walked past her garden. She was tall, maybe sixteen years old. But she is full of curves for days.Was Europe always this big on having such endowed women? Her hair was soft and curled, even though I didn't recall much in the way of cleanliness in medieval history. I guess this was probably from a poor authorial study, or fantasy magic keeping people clean and healthy...

I half understood she was speaking in German, I guess it made sense if this was Grimm fairy tales we were hunting. It took me a moment longer, staring at her to realize she wasn't calling someone else.

"Errmm Guten tag, Fraulein. You caught me in deep thought just there."

Wow, I even manage to use correct phrases and greetings too?

"Oh, My apologies, what was Herr Blue thinking of?" She smiled at me and shifted herself a little. Certainly giving me a show for my eyes as her body jiggled in the right places. This is so much better than anime… Just what kind of Fairy tale fantasy world did I step into? And do I have to stop it? I am not ashamed to admit I was getting a bit too distracted by her.

A sharp pain cracked the side of my head reflexively making me duck in pain. "We have a job to do first, Herr Blue…" Master growled into my ear. I guess playing My familiar he couldn't be too abusive, but he has a good point.

Right. Work first, play later. But just let me look a little more... Smack. Ow!... Alright, alright….

"Perhaps we can talk about such thoughts I've been having later tonight?" I asked her, trying to put a block between my head and Master's beak. He nipped my hand, insistently while I tried to ignore him just a moment longer.

She giggled slightly and bent down to pull out a weed, though the motions of her hand and body were certainly suggesting something else entirely. "Don't make me wait for too long, Herr Blue."

I'm very very grateful for my wizard robes in this very moment. Trying to not walk away to awkward as I made a promise to do my best to be back later.

"Was that real?" I asked myself quietly.

"Yes and No… It seems this land might be connected to a few ... ehem, other tales. Apparently, one of them involves the feminine gender being quite forward. You didn't rewrite yourself as the Main Character did you?"

I shook my head, trying to not keep glancing back behind me. "No, I did as you said, I just made myself known as a good wizard who travels around the kingdom. I didn't add anything else. Really.."

"No perverted thoughts or being overly heroic?"

"Of course not. At least not consciously… I'm pretty sure I didn't let anything that perverted come out."

"The other option is that the Hero in this tale she belongs looks Japanese."

Thinking on several stories I know this wouldn't be that far fetched a scenario, big breasted girl falling over a hero she just met. And I'm also not ashamed to admit that I wouldn't be upset about taking advantage of such things. Though I'm half curious if such a thing would be NTR if I stole her away from the real hero.

"Enough about this for now. This way, I can sense the Magic starting to gather up. We could be too late if we dawdle too much longer. Mush!"

"Yes, Master," I responded asking one last glance behind me before setting off into a jog into the forest. Starting to realize that the animals and plants were being rather harmonious, a little too much like music to be real. Damn you, fantasy!
