Zhang Yun is a gaming hamster. For a special mission in the Lost Kingdom, he has been a hamster for ten years. To his surprise one day, the game suddenly announces that the server will be permanently going offline just as he's about to complete the mission…

However, at the moment the game goes permanently offline, he actually brings the game system to an alternate world. He also brings along everything in his inventory, including his hundred million summoning scrolls.

The beastmen mocked him in the arena and he half- squeaked , half- roared.

“ SO WHAT IF LAOZI IS A HAMSTER! DON’T YOU BELIEVE THIS HAMSTER WILL BITE YOU TO DEATH!”

In the end there’s just one thing to say- dynamite comes in small packages.

Self-made cotton paper was a very important and necessary item when hamster breeding. It could be bought from the Internet. The product was whole, raw, pulp paper, without any artificial dyes, and it could be cut into finger-wide strips. Hamsters would instinctively search for nesting materials after giving birth to their pups. If they couldn't find them, they would be anxious, even if the owner had already made a nest for it. It was useless, however, as it would only be reassured if it was a nest made by the hamster themselves.
The cotton paper was given to the children for free by Zhang Zian––a pack was only ten yuan––and he had the children cut them into paper strips.
When the children saw that the female hamster was actually eating the cotton paper strips, they were all very shocked.
"Is the female hamster hungry? Why is it eating cotton paper?" Little Celery asked, worried.
"Yes, should we give it some food to eat? What if it gets so hungry it eats the little hamsters?" another child added.
"You all think it is eating the cotton paper? No, it is just keeping the cotton paper in its cheek to make it easy to move it to build a nest. The reason why we needed to cut the cotton paper into thin strips was because if it was too wide, it couldn't fit it into its mouth…"
After the cotton paper passed through its mouth, it would become softer, and hence it could not be replaced by normal sawdust. Sawdust was too hard; it could not eat it and it was not suitable to build a nest with.
It kept several pieces of cotton paper strips into its cheek pouch, then ran back to its baby hamsters. It spit out the cotton paper and started to make the nest without any guidance. After that, it ran back into the corner to eat the cotton paper again.
"Isn't it better to directly put the cotton paper closer to the babies?" a child who asked. "That way it wouldn't have to run back and forth. It just finished giving birth so it must be very tough for it, right?"
Zhang Zian nodded. "It is indeed very tough for it, but during the making of the cotton paper and the transporting of it, it is impossible to prevent it from getting some human scent on it. When it puts it in its mouth, its own scent overpowers the human scent. It can't be put too close, otherwise that wouldn't happen."
The children saw that the hamster mother was very busy even though it had just given birth and had used all its strength. It was still painstakingly traveling back and forth, building a shelter for its children. They could not help but pay tribute to it.
Zhang Zian said, "When your mother gave birth to you, she experienced much more pain than the mother hamster. In order to take care of you, she also did more hard work than the mother hamster. She not only had to take care of your clothes, food, and living, but she also had to run between her house and her workplace every day to earn more money in exchange for a bigger and more comfortable house––in exchange for good food, for things for you to play with, in exchange for a happier life for you… So you all should be considerate of your mother, and not always make her angry. Try to help her share some housework, which will be the best reward for her."
Remembering their mothers' daily hard work and how they often made her angry because of their studies and their naughtiness, a few of the usually naughtier boys bowed their heads in shame. Several already sensitive girls were so moved they had to wipe away tears.
If one just stood on the platform and nagged, it would absolutely not have such an effect. One would not be able to let the children intuitively understand the hard work of motherhood. They had to witness it, personally feel it, in order to leave a deep impression on them. If one could do that, the cost of buying pets and the hard work of keeping pets would be meaningful.
No matter if it was pets kept at home or school rearing courses, the purpose was not simply to let children play, but to cultivate their love and sense of responsibility in the process of raising pets. If they could also experience the hard work of mothers in the breeding process, that would be great.
The children had made up their minds to try to start doing housework when they got home later that day––even if it was just helping their mother sweep the floor or wipe the table.
"Little Celery does very well in this aspect. You all need to learn more from her," Zhang Zian encouraged.
"I… I still have not done enough…" Little Celery lowered her head, embarrassed.
Wang Yaning was a bit awkward. Her studies were very good, and all her time outside of school was spent on homework and various interest classes. Her mother also did not let her do any housework.
While they were chatting quietly, the female hamster had already moved all the cotton paper into the corner, made a shallow pit in the sawdust, put the pups in it, and then covered it with the cotton paper to make a simple and warm nest. After all, the newborn hamsters were hairless and had poor heat preservation abilities.
"The baby hamsters won't suffocate?" someone asked worriedly. They saw that the cotton paper had already totally covered the baby hamsters.
"Don't worry. That's the good thing about cotton paper and sawdust: There are a lot of holes in the middle and they can breathe, so it's not a problem," Zhang Zian said. He retrieved the food bowl the female hamster normally used and opened a bag of small steamed buns made of goat's milk and eggs that he purchased online. He put a few into it, and then put them into cardboard boxes as supplementary food for female hamster.
Although he did his best to encourage the children to prepare their own pet rearing supplies, baking was too hard for children.
The female hamster was still busy making a nest. Even if he prepared food for it, it did not have time to eat. It was just hurriedly drinking water to replace the water that it had lost while giving birth.
"You have an electric kettle here, right? Bring an egg tomorrow and boil it in plain water. After boiling it, you can break off the egg white that is the size of the nail cap and feed that to it to make sure it has enough protein. Don't overfeed it. The rest can be fed to other hamsters," Zhang Zian ordered.
"I see people feeding hamsters with mealworms. Is it better to eat live food?" a boy asked.
The girls all scrunched up their faces and said, "No mealworms. That's disgusting!"
Zhang Zian was standing on the girls' side this time and agreed. It was better not to feed them mealworms. For house pets, live food was not necessarily good because live food could carry bacteria, and there was a small amount of toxin on the mealworms.
In a twinkling of an eye, there was a small bulge where the baby hamsters were, and almost no trace of the baby hamsters could be seen.
In the end, the female hamster had managed to finish all the work and was finally satisfied. It went under the cotton paper. If it was not for the slight movement of the cotton paper, there might even be people who would mistake the paper box as being empty.
"How does mother hamster take care of baby hamsters? I really want to see it," the children said sadly, but the paper cotton completely blocked their sight.
"If you really want to see it, there's a way. Is there any other mother hamster who's about to give birth? Find a normal glass fish tank, or an acrylic, transparent hamster cage, and spread the sawdust a little thinner. You can see from the bottom up. Maybe then you could see how the mother hamster takes care of her baby," Zhang Zian suggested.
The children suddenly realized that and they were full of expectations for the next delivery.

I get up and use the water that I same from last night, when I get back to camp with some more dead leaf. The dead leafs in the fire pit was no more and when the fire was start,  I want to a local food street fair, to buy something to eat because street food fair are make for folks that never make a lot of money and make for the poor folks. I found some foods that was around 1 cent and want back to my camp set, unit I found a alive little animal. I take a small place of bread and feed it to to a hamster, that look like it have never be food in a while. I feed  myself as well the hamster some of carat and bread under it was full, the hamster was hunter and attack by the darkness hunter. This hamster take some time to take some time, to won over and somehow I won this little guy over, they let help with the wind. As soon as this little guy was in my hand, after I pick up mu camp and this guy, as so they was near my packet on my jacket, want into my jacket pocket to sleep. My pocket was big and very dark, when I look into my pocket, the little hamster was asleep.
The rain get a little light and it was just a little warm, so I get a little more far then I have before couple days ago. The rain and Everwood cold weather getaway a lot but I make a good 4 miles without a break but something get my arm, when I have sleeve up so I have to stop, set up camp for the day. A old tree that have sharp end get my arm a little and I use a piece of my own shirt that  have in my bag. I use some of water and use a another pisces of the shirt, to press down to stop the bleeding, I didn't have all the supply I need to care for a wound but I will make it work, beside this wound was only from the tree not anything deadly. I was putting press on the wound to stop the bleeding for a couple of minute before I clean it with water and a piece of fabric from my other shirt. The hamster wake up and move in my pocket, I take the hamster out and put it on top of my bag. After I take care of the wound on my arm, I check the hamster wound then get it some food, that I put in the bag that I normal use for berries that I pick out some food from the meal I buy. Feed this little guy and saw a darkness hunter in the light once again but I found out, it was the same one that I talk to, the other day. "Hello guardian, I want to give you something before I pass on, hopeful with the zodiac sisters" then he wake over to me and hand me a . "I will never memory or see my daughter again to give this ring, that belong to her mother. So I want you to have, will you forgotten and the darkness hunter for the thing we do. The darkness hunter didn't want to do anything like this but we was force, so will you forgotten use and show the light, that we are sorry." I hold out my hand and he put the ring into my hand but when the ring was in my hand, this light show up. The ring take back time to look all new and change it to fix my right pointing finger. The darkness hunter left and I have this dream again but this blue green light was more alive.
"The era of the new hero has risen, you did the one thing that the fallen in the past didn't do and it will change the bomb with the darkness hunter now. You and the many before you, will be the only one who forgotten and listened to  the darkness hunter for their action beside looking at the thing they did. This will be a  big part in the war and let just hope that it will do good later on." this light woke me up from my nap and I saw food in front of me, with a note on it.
"The darkness is blind to others but the light is the only thing that will know the truth. You show that by being the only who listens and forgets the darkness hunter." I have no idea what just happened but I ate the meal and got the hamster, the food that was given to me to feed him. I put on the ring that I was giving after I forgot the darkness hunter for what they have to do and I notice that the sky turns lighter when the sun for the first time, shows itself a little with some of nature coming back to life. I'm starting to feel this power, is starting to bring back the light slowly and turning back into the Everwood, that was here before the darkness took over.

	This will be the journal entry I will ever write, this journal will only one I own and it is going to be in hiding as well. Only the child  of the zodiac sisters can read this and Stacy told me that the child of the fourth older within the zodiac signs is the only one, who understands Everwood. The Everwood on the island and put this journal with the other. So if you are the child of the fourth older zodiac sisters, I trust you with the journal of unfinished tales and the handbook that the darkness hunter gave me. So if anyone reading this, copy this letter down and give it to the darkness for me.

When the zoidac sisters are all dead killed by the darkness and their no light in the land. When the darkness take over with no guardian left in the land but for one under the darkness nose. After Stacy death, the sign and power off Scorpio is the first one to come back to Everwood. The new journal of the zodiac signs, have start once again. Read to found out what happen in the curse of the iron rose.

"Well done, well done!" The hamster clapped at the top cabinet before he rolled down his body to the table and subsequently the ground. "Did not expect those chickens to see me when I took their eggs. I thought I could grow a few chickens of my own! Hahahah!" Hamatarou laughed at his own misfortune as he revealed two oversized chicken eggs from the depths of his furry body.
"How did he keep all those things inside his body?" Qiu Yue wondered looking at Lynn as the other gave her a deadpan stare.
"I've only come to visit this world twice before. As if I would know such stuff." Lynn replied as she took the bodies of the Horned Chicken via the Sub System. She was informed that signs of Body Restructuring had been detected inside the creatures. It advised Lynn to wait until the chicken reverted to its original sizes before processing it.
"Interesting. Are you a shaman too?" Hamatarou asked and ignored the Penguin Chieftain Skitter who was kneeling in front of him.
"You don't seem to be a particularly good host. I suggest you answer the person who is requesting your audience first." Lynn answered with a bit of annoyance in her words.
"Ah! Sorry Skitter! I did not see you down there." Hamatarou laughed loudly as he took out another exact copy of the Totem of Atem for them. "Just as promised you ten years ago. Here is your new and improved totem. According to my research, I predict that with this improved one the generation after the next should hopefully not even need this. The same routine, go to the Altar of Giants to recharge its powers every once in a while."
"Thank you, Sir Hamatarou!" Skitter expressed his gratitude as the rest of the penguins knelt and bowed in front of him as well.
"No need to be so humble. You did earn it, especially after my impromptu task of killing the horned chickens. Now if you don't mind, would you introduce me to your two companions? They seem quite capable. I regret to say that I have yet to encounter any members of their species in our world." Hamatarou requested.
"Other species? No, you are mistaken Sir Hamatarou, they aren't from anywhere around here. Lady Lynn graced us with her presence suddenly. She is actually from another world." Skitter replied.
"Another world? Well, I am surprised you appear to believe them so readily. I admit that I have never seen those strange vehicles they rode, nor the weapons they used. Still, that does not mean they hail from another world. This might as well be some long lost technology or magic." Hamatarou remarked as he suddenly became suspicious.
"It is true, Sir Hamatarou." Kido took the initiative to speak. "I've been to their world and the others had served Lady Lynn in her quests."
"...Hmm okay. Assume that I'm interested that I want to see that world for myself. Will you bring me along as well?" Hamatarou said in a wishy washy manner.
"Sure, but you will have to sign a contract with us. The short version is that you will have to serve us at our times of need." Qiu Yue immediately took out a contract form and showed it to Hamatarou. The Sub System had managed to write it all in its native language based on what it had learnt about the Penguins.
As she wanted to hand it over, she noticed, that there was a bit of discrepancy in their sizes, but the hamster immediately used his own totem of Atem to turn the same size as Lynn and began to read the contract.
"Interesting. So, I will have to go into combat against other members of your species?" Hamatarou questioned, and Qiu Yue nodded her head.
"That is most often the case. However, it may also turn to you battling some species you have never seen before. If you have other talents to provide, we can also change the contract to something more suited for you. In return, you will experience at least our own world, and maybe others." Qiu Yue listed their demands, and Hamatarou was deep in thought.
"Sounds like a very unfair deal." The hamster concluded, and Qiu Yue shrugged her shoulders.
"Well, you will practically become an interworld traveller with our help. It's not something anyone can offer you on the spot. Additionally, we will provide you with decent food, entertainment and a place to stay. Not to mention, if you work for us, we will pay you some credit in accordance to your results to get better food and the chance to train yourself to self betterment. If that is not to your liking, we also offer knowledge you may never learn otherwise." Qiu Yue added, and Lynn could not help but cringe at her promotion of a contract.
"Anyways if you don't like it, it's not like we are keeping you forever. The duration of the contract is designed for a three month provisional stay. If you like it, you can renew it or turn it into a permanent contract. " Qiu Yue was basically trying to hard sell it to the hamster. The penguins, on the other hand, shared their own experiences with the sceptical hamster.
"Fine. I trust the penguins more than you guys. And I am really curious to see how other world looks like. You are right, such an opportunity may only come once in a lifetime, but I am unable to leave for three months. One week. That is all the time I have before I have other matters to attend to." Hamatarou bit on his paws and was ready to use a drop of his blood to seal the contract.
"Agreed. For starters, please tell us more about this Giant World." Qiu Yue told the System to rewrite the contract, and upon verification, the hamster sealed the deal.
"Very well. Long story short, I am a druid. Which is also why I am able to provide these totems to the penguins. This place is just one of the meeting places that I had set up as a haven for the various races that wish to survive this harsh world without being affected by the Giantism Virus. Follow me." Hamatarou ordered as it grew larger once more and indicated the rest to grab onto its fur.
The hamster opened the door with much ease since it was on par with its enhanced size, and jumped up to the roofs as soon as it was out of the house. Lynn and the others saw only a part of the entirety of the ruined city that they were in. It wasn't until Hamatarou reached one of the watchtowers that they saw more of it.
"When I told Skitter ten years, I was not joking. You have seen that I can control my size, but the transformation is not permanent and has its limits. Even at my largest, the city remains vast and huge. It took me a year alone to get the totems to different races like the penguins here. After which, I had to travel using stealth to other small towns and cities to share with them."
"So there are other sentient races as well? Why are you doing this?" Lynn asked, and apparently, others who lived far away from the penguins within this city. The turtles, walrus, crocs, frogs as well as other different penguin settlements.
"I need all of them to get stronger so that we can eventually prepare for an exodus from this cursed city," Hamatarou said as they were jumping from one roof to another.
"Exodus? Leave this city? Cursed? Why?" Lynn continued to ask as Qiu Yue grabbed on both her and Hamatarou's fur.
"The city has long since been depleted of its food stock. The giantism virus had infected almost everyone that lived in this city. While the different tribes are procuring their own food, there is only so much they can grow and survive." Hamatarou sighed.
"I am trying to find a place for all these people to live and thrive, a mass exodus of the most capable warriors and talented beings who will follow me to find such a sanctuary. I heard of an island beyond the sea that should have an abundance of food and animals still on the size of the penguins. This meant that they can live there." Druid Hamatarou announced its plans to them.
"Is that why most of the races that you saved…are amphibious in nature?" Lynn questioned as she had noticed, that all the races he had listed could live on land and survive in the long sea trip. Mildly surprised, the druid nodded in acknowledgement.
"Still, depending on your ability to travel to other worlds, that might change our plans a little. Although we potentially still face another problem." Hamatarou spoke out saying that they were reaching his base soon, which was at the bottom of the large tree ahead of them. At the centre of a desolated nature park.
"To search for the other surviving races," Hamatarou spoke a few words in an unknown language (though it sounded like an annoyed hamster) and the tree roots opened itself up to let the hamster in.
"While I did not tell the penguins initially, I've told the other races to meet me at the Altar of Giants within a few months time if I sent a continuous flare of light in the night. That would also signal the start of the mass exodus." Hamatarou stated and the rest immediately understood what that meant. If the entire village or even just a small group travelling will attract danger from the various giants in the vicincity.
"Can't we just search each tribe up individually? That's what you did to meet up with them, right?" Qiu Yue asked as they finally reached the ground.
"I remember he said that he met them via meeting places," Kido replied and Hamatarou nodded.
"Yes, this was to prevent any possible infiltration from another group. A group I regret having saved before." Hamatarou lit up his base, and the first thing everyone saw was an entirely horrifying body of a lizard hanging right in front of them seemingly ready to pounce. 
"The Salamanders."
Hamatarou told them how he tried teaching the salamanders to shape shift …or size shift after the Giantism Virus had hit throughout the country. However, the Salamanders had used their newfound knowledge to infiltrate other villages and steal their food.
Sadly, it did not end there. The Salamanders eventually killed entire villages and burned them down so that they could use the corpses as food stock.
The druid had been so mad that they did such an atrocious act and decided to curse them with a forbidden spell. They remained fairly large in size no longer able to revert to their original smaller size, allowing the other more giant monsters to prey on them. Afterwards, they had decided to hole up in the castle of the city which was up the hill. 
The city was split into three parts. The bottom of the hill once housed the peasants with the middle being for the wealthy merchants and nobles. At the top was once occupied by the royalty, though it appeared to be a lifetime ago.
"If I shoot the flare spell up, the salamanders will use that as the perfect opportunity to kill us as part of the revenge. I also fear they have found ways on how to tame the monsters too. This will allow them to reach the cathedral very quickly. And they are prone to attack anything in 'their' territory." Hamatarou finished his story by giving the stone salamander in front of them a disgusted look. 
This particular one had tried to kill the druid in his own home, but the druid managed to petrify it and decided to allow it to remain here as a grim reminder that the Salamanders could strike him at any time.
"That should not be a problem. Whenever you meet up with the other races, possibly teleport them to our city?" Qiu Yue suggested, and the others agreed that it seemed like a good idea too. "Besides, you signed the contract, just holler me up if you wish to transport them."
"If it were that easy, I would have been elated the moment I heard you have the ability to teleport people. But it seems like the Salamanders are doing their cleansing job seriously too. There was a tribe I was supposed to meet, but they never appeared. This was also the reason I was late for the meeting as I tried to track their village down."
"Same kind of destruction?" Lynn asked solemnly.
"Worse. The Salamanders massacred and decorated the place with their entrails. They were not even interested in them as food stock because they were too small for their appetite; it seems. Their marks were all over the place, and it felt deliberate. I'm pretty sure that they wanted me to find it that way." Hamatarou replied.
"That is also why I readily accepted your contract. I want to see your world, and see first hand whether it would be liveable for my other subjects."
"…Other subjects?" Lynn repeated that word, and suddenly, the two Sub System users realised.
"…You were the king of this city?" Both asked at the same time which the druid hamster was silent for a while.
"…Prince. An exiled one."

(13/8/2020) Author's opinion: At this point, this book had hundreds of chapters worth of content which I had planned for a long time. If you wish to undertake the book and appreciate the story, please read it up till chapter 300s to understand the sudden twist in chapter 100s.

i will admit that during that time, I am still a young budding author and could have expressed the story better in the early hundred chapters. But I assure you the story development is worth it.

Today was another sunny peaceful day where nothing happens BUT BUSY.

Ah yes the life of an office slave was .....mind numbing. So many phone calls. So many Covid-19 test scams.

"Mr. Hamster did I finish the press release rewrite for the doctors?"

"Ya."

"K cool. Did I do a good job."

"No. I did."

CC kinda remembers now, translating doctor speak was hard. Especially when they're cussing and crying about how stupid their patients are. It sounded a lot like high school teachers correcting their students homework.

"Remember everyone, don't get scammed so easily- do your research. Yes that was the motto!"

"Meh. " squeaked the hamster, not caring about the high scam rate of humans in their scary pandemics. 

Hamsters just want to scam readers. Of their feels. Tears and feels. 

Money would be cool but tears and feels. THe goal was to scam them into a sense of quiet security and then TRUCK-SAN them into oblivion with feels. The only problem was that the hoooooman it controlled was also slammed by the same truck of feels. Why are humans so troublesome?

"I'm so sleepy again Mr. Hamster. Did we get any more work done?"

The hamster was mad.

So the answer was no.

"YOU ZONED OUT RESPONDING TO COMMENTS!!!"

"Again?"

"SOmetimes you passed out and I had to take over!!!"

"Oh thanks for thank Mr. Hamster! I think the readers like your answers more because they're so detailed with the facts."

"FACTS SMACTS I WANT SUFFERING"

CC would argue more but she was too brain dead. She did however recall it being a wonderful update bc then she would get lots of comments. Despite what the hamster complained about, both human and hamsters liked comments. 

For they were authors.

Weak weak attention-seeking authors that fangirl/hamster over their own novels.

"k cool, I'm gonna pass out again."

And so once again, CC will wake up with a strange kink in her neck and a ringing hamster in her ear.She will not get enough sleep, again, and work will make her run aorund like a headless chicken in a medical face mask. Again.

But the comments were nice. 

Comments keep authors alive. Tomorrow CC would reread all her comments, again.

And maybe food too. 

In this case, it was screaming hamsters that weren't wrong. What would this human ever do without the evil writing hamster? Write more fluff maybe?

Chapter 50: Bigger pebble.
By Sloan’s count, he’d died once when the snake bitch shot him in the head. Then he’d died four times in the ring. Well, that was it. Five was enough. He wasn’t going to end up in that revival tank again. He was going to do this. He had to win this time. Octnavin warned him that the folantos were now bored. His sense tentacle said that they were not even cheering any longer.
As Sloan rose up toward the dome, he could hear Octnavin in his head giving a steady stream of battle tips. Sloan had to live this time.
When the platform stopped, this time, Sloan didn’t wait. He’d learned that lesson already. Sloan rolled off the metal and into the dirt as the hamster rushed him. 
“Not this time, mother-fucker.” Sloan got to his feet. He spun and did a sold kick to the hamster’s face. He was never going to own a hamster if he ever got back to Earth. Sloan dodged a swing from the hamster’s claws. With wide fingers, Sloan nailed the Malzian in the eyes. The rodent reared back in surprise.
While the hamster was momentarily blinded, Sloan ran around to his hairy back. He jumped on his shoulders. Sloan gripped the hamster in a headlock. Gritting his teeth, Sloan held on with everything he had. 
Scratches to his forearm caused Sloan’s skin to gush blood, but he didn’t give in to the pain. He refused to let go. Using his other arm to secure his grip, Sloan squeezed. The alien hamster backed up into the mirror wall, but Sloan knew from death number two that those were not glass. 
“Nice try, rodent-from-hell.” Sloan threw his legs back and bounced off the trampoline-type material. The propulsion from his legs was just what Sloan needed. Still holding onto the hamster’s neck, he sent them both flying forward. The damn alien hit the ground whiskers first. Sloan held on for dear life. That is what this was… Sloan's dear life. 
-Hold a little longer.- Octnavin spoke calmly in his head. Sloan tightened his grip crushing the hamster’s neck. The alien rodent thrashed in the mud. His airway was cut off, but still, the creature fought. Finally, the hamster stopped moving and wheezed.
-Well done, but you must kill him.- Octnavin said. -This is a fight to the death.-
Sloan eased his hold from around the alien’s neck. He sat on the furry back and then grabbed both sides of the hamster’s head. 
“It is what it is.” Sloan wrenched on the hamster until the fuzzy neck was broken. There was an audible crack. The head was now in an unnatural position.
He did it.
Sloan got to his feet and stood in the mud of the ring. Holding up both his middle fingers, he spun in a slow circle giving everyone behind those mirrors the biggest fuck-you Sloan had.
“That’s right, bitches. Eat it.” Sloan did a victory lap around the dome. He would probably have to fight this guy tomorrow, but for now, he didn’t care. In this second, he was alive.
Sloan noted that his platform was dropping. Leaping, he reached his lowering dais and once more flipped the bird to everyone watching. As he was lowered back to his cell, a grin lit up his face. Damn right. Humans could hold their own. 
When Sloan got to his floor, and the raiser stopped, he jumped off the metal and grinned at Octnavin.
“That’s right. I’m the mountain now.” Sloan did a victory lap around the tiny cell as Octnavin watched him from his seat against the mud wall. 
When Sloan stopped dancing, Octnavin shrugged. “Bigger pebble.”
“You’re a dick.” Sloan laughed as he walked to the water. He began to clean the scratches on his arm. He used part of his shirt to clean the injury before he returned to Octnavin’s side. The alien looked asleep against the rock. 
Sloan studied the alien for a minute. Octnavin looked too still. Curious, Sloan entered the alien’s head. Lately, the alien had been closing off some of his thoughts. During Sloan’s fights, Octnavin only presented calm. During Octnavin’s time in the ring, the great Dagerstanteen hid the pain from some of his hits. For the first time, Sloan wasn’t okay with being shut out. He barged into the alien’s mind as if he’d just kicked down the door.
Hunger. 
The starvation was a living, breathing monster in the alien mind. The feeling, the sensation, was so powerful that it took Sloan’s breath away. Instantly, Sloan’s stomach cramped in response to the need for food rolling off Octnavin. 
“What the hell is wrong with you?” Sloan asked. “I know it’s not five-star cuisine in your fancy palace, but get off your high horse and eat some fruit.”
 Sloan rose and picked up an apple. 
“I cannot.” Octnavin didn’t even look at the offering. 
“Don’t be a stubborn ass.” Sloan waved the apple and then set the food down by Octnavin’s leg. Turning around, Sloan began to pick through the muddy pile. He grabbed the pieces that looked the least rotten. Quickly, he washed them at the little watering hole. “Here.” Sloan turned around. “These are still good.”
“I cannot eat them.” Octnavin waved his drinking tentacle. “They gave you food because you need all the help you can get, but they are trying to actively weaken me for the fights. It makes the betting better. I can only take in liquid.” Once again, Octnavin closed his eyes like he couldn’t even look at the fruit. 
Sloan sat back on his heels. This whole time he’d been eating, and Octnavin had been slowly starving. Why didn’t the alien ask for help? Sloan knew why. The king-ruler-warrior was a stubborn dick and he didn’t ask for help from anyone. He carried the weight of the world on his shoulders alone. 
Shaking his head, Sloan hunted in the fruit until he found a busted watermelon. One side was rotten, but the other side was perfect for making a bowl. After he broke the rind, he dug out the center and then washed his new container. Smiling, he decided all his work in the coffee shop was finally worth something. This might be the grossest smoothie ever, but it was food, and it was liquid. 
Sloan began to squeeze oranges into his rind bowl. After chewing apples, he spat the pulp into the makeshift container. He worked to find anything in the pile that was soft or liquid, and that was still in good condition. 
While Sloan chewed a banana, he added water. As he mushed fruit. he thought about how much he’d learned about Octnavin in the time they had been here. The alien was fearful of becoming a shitty ruler of his planet. He was lonely with only his siblings that he could talk to or trust. He felt the weight of Rhylent’s judgment every time his sibling didn’t like a decision he made. The planet’s political system was full of Dagerstanteens who would delight in pointing out how his creator was better than him. 
Sloan also learned that the alien had a hard time asking for help or saying please. He never apologized. Octnavin only thought of past mistakes as the best choice he could make at the time. It was crazy that Sloan had learned all that about the alien’s family, home, and life but had somehow missed that he was hungry. 
"I’m the pebble, but you can be defeated by not having teeth." Sloan teased the alien. "You’re like a big baby."
"I am not defeated, my pebble." 
When the liquid was finished, Sloan carefully carried his full rind bowl over to Octnavin. He picked up his drinking tentacle. As he gripped the limb, Octnavin lowered his eyes to the bowl.
“It will not have the right nutrients.”
“Come on, baby. It’s better than nothing.”
Octnavin let Sloan set the tentacle into the watermelon bowl. He sucked it empty in a matter of minutes. Sloan felt his hunger ease. 
“I know this is the grossest smoothie ever. And I would give my left arm for a steak right now, but it’s what we got.”
Octnavin grinned and pulled Sloan into his tentacles.
