IT WAS A FINE MORNING THAT DAY AS THE SUN SHINES ITS BEAM ON THE SPOTTED TREES IN THE CELESTIA...

"Why? Are we really facing you?" Seeing Rolling Mario, Quan Zhen Sect burst into laughter. Did the system do it on purpose? How could it be such a coincidence?

Seorang pria muda berujar di dalam mobil sport miliknya. Irisnya begitu  lekat memperhatikan mobil yang baru saja membawa Davina pergi. Meninggalkan asap dan debu di belakangnya.


"Hm..." Pria di sampingnya hanya bergumam. Mengetukkan jari ke dashboard. Lalu pandangannya beralih pada wanita paruh baya, sedang memapah bocah laki-laki berumur satu tahun itu masuk ke rumah kayu minimalis khas tradisional Jepang.


Pikirannya segera melayang saat ingin membeli rumah itu. Butuh perjuangan mati-matian membujuk seorang kakek agar menjualnya. Bukan tanpa sebab dia membujuk kakek tersebut, karena sang cucu adalah rekan bisnisnya, yang awalnya memang berniat untuk menjual rumah ini agar sang kakek mau tinggal bersama sang cucu di kota Fukuouka. Berkat usaha gigihnya, setelah diusir berkali-kali dan diomeli tiada henti, akhirnya sang kakek mau juga melepaskan rumah ini padanya.


Kemudian dia hanya perlu memasang tulisan pada banners di depan pagar dengan kalimat; 'rumah ini disewakan'. Dan selanjutnya, tinggal menyerahkan semuanya pada sang mertua, mengarahkan Davina ke sini - ketika mereka sampai ke Jepang nantinya.


"Kak Rio, bukankah sebaiknya kau menemuinya secara langsung?!" saran Ravi. Suara bassnya menyeruak di antara suara rock dari group band kenamaan Jepang---L'arc en Ciel---yang berasal dari audio mobil.


Pemuda berambut pirang ini menoleh ke samping, menatap sang kakak termenung sembari tersenyum kecil, menatap lekat rumah kayu minimalis yang tertutup rapat itu. Ravi mengelus alis coklatnya, kemudian mengangkat kedua belah bahu. Kakaknya sudah gilakah?


"Status kalian masih dalam pernikahan, kau berhak menemuinya, kapan pun kau mau," lanjut Ravi menganjurkan Mario untuk bertindak secara terang-terangan, daripada menjadi seorang penguntit seperti ini.


Ravi mendengkus jengkel. Oh, Astaga. Selama seminggu dia berada di Jepang. Dia baru tahu, jauh-jauh sang kakak menetap ke Jepang selama delapan bulan ini, hanya untuk menjadi bayangan seorang Davina, sekalian memulai bisnis hotel di sini.


"Mau sampai kapan diam-diam seperti ini mengawasinya?" protes Ravi lagi. Terus meracau sendiri. Sedari tadi tak ada respon dari sang kakak di sebelahnya. Bahkan dia mematikan audio mobil agar kali ini suaranya bisa didengar jelas oleh Mario.


"Hey, Bro. Kau mendengarkanku?" Ravi menyenggol keras lengan Mario.


"Iya, aku dengar. Sampai dia tak marah ketika melihat wajahku ini." Akhirnya Mario menjawab sambil mendesah pendek. Dilepasnya sealtbelt yang sedari tadi masih melekat di pinggangnya. "Untuk sementara, biarkan saja seperti ini. Mengawasinya diam-diam."


Ravi mengangga mendengarnya. "Astaga! Bro!" Hampir saja pria muda ini mengeluarkan semua umpatan yang berada di ujung mulutnya kalau tidak mengingat Mario adalah kakaknya. Untuk mengalihkan umpatannya, ia memilih mengacak rambutnya.


Sampai kapan Mario akan bertindak seperti itu? Sebentar lagi istri kakaknya ini akan melahirkan. Masa belum mengambil tindakan apapun? Dilihat dari kacamata pengamatannya, sepertinya Davina takkan marah bila melihat langsung wajah Mario. Mungkin, itu hanya pemikiran sepihaknya saja ya.


Dan menurutnya, lebih baik bertindak langsung, daripada seperti ini, hanya mengawasinya dari jauh serta mempermudah segala urusan Davina secara diam-diam. Jujur, dia merasa seperti seorang penjahat yang mengawasi sang target.


What the hell. Benar-benar menjengkelkan. Sekali lagi Ravi mengacak rambut dengan wajah tertekuk masam. Dalam hati ia terus mengumpat.


"Mau bagaimana lagi, Rav. Inilah jalan satu-satunya. Kau tahu sendiri sifat Vina seperti apa," sangkal Mario cepat. "Dan aku tak mau mengulang kembali kesalahanku. Melepas tanggung jawabku begitu saja ..."


Samar ingatannya kembali ke delapan bulan yang lalu ....


"Eh, Rio?!" Chase tersentak kaget akan pintu ruang kerjanya yang di banting kuat oleh Mario. Melepas kacamatanya, sementara irisnya menatap lekat sang adik---tepat berada di bawahnya---berjalan cepat ke arahnya, sembari membawa amplop coklat di tangan.


Chase tahu isi amplop tersebut, sebelumnya dia mengintip sekilas ketika memeriksa keadaan Davina. Dan saat memeriksa itulah dia menemukan hal yang mengejutkan di dalam perut sosok manis itu. Akan tetapi belum sempat dia membicarakan hal tersebut, karena dilihatnya Mario tak beranjak dari sisi sang istri barang sedikit pun.


"Vina sudah siuman." Mario membanting map coklat itu ke atas meja kerja Chase yang penuh dengan berkas-berkas bertumpuk. Lalu duduk tepat di depan dokter muda itu.


"Oh, aku harus memeriksanya kembali!" seru Chase.


"Tak usah, Chase. Tadi ada dokter Hank yang memeriksanya, juga ada pengacara Brave yang menemaninya," sergah Mario ketika Chase ingin memakai jas dokter yang tersampir di sandaran kursi kerjanya. Bersiap ke ruangan Davina.


"Bagaimana? Apa Vina tetap pada pendiriannya?" Chase kembali duduk dan menatap lekat wajah kusut penuh frustasi milik adiknya.


"Ya. Dia tetap ingin bercerai dariku. Astaga! Kenapa ini harus terjadi," racau Mario sambil menjambak rambut hitam lebatnya. Berkali-kali dia mengembuskan napas berat.


"Dan kau menuruti keinginannya? Bercerai darinya?" tanya Chase ingin tahu Mario mengambil tindakan bagaimana.


Pria muda itu mendengkus, menatap lekat amplop coklat di atas meja. Mengepalkan tangannya ketika kembali mengingat airmata Davina yang bersikeras ingin mereka bercerai.


"Tentu saja tidak Chase. Aku tak ingin mengulangi kesalahan yang sama."


"Lalu bagaimana selanjutnya?" Chase menggerak-gerakkan pulpen di sela-sela jarinya. Sudut bibirnya terangkat - membentuk senyuman tipis. Dia senang sang adik tak mengambil sikap gegabah.


"Untuk sementara kubiarkan kami berpisah, biarkan hatinya tenang dahulu," terang Mario. Segera berdiri dan mengambil amplop coklat di atas meja. Tanpa berpikir lagi, memasukkan amplop coklat tersebut ke dalam mesin penghancur kertas. Maka dengan ini, perceraian mereka batal? Semoga saja, dalam hati berharap Davina tak melanjutkan gugatannya ke pengadilan, walau dia telah mentah-mentah menolaknya.


"Hm ... tak masalah, asal jangan bercerai," komentar Chase menerawang, lantas memperhatikan Mario bersidekap, mengamati map amplop coklat tersebut menjadi potongan-potongan kecil dalam mesin penghancur kertas.


"Dan kuharap kalian berpisah tak terlalu lama, sebab ..." ungkap Chase beringsut dari kursi menuju jendela di belakangnya. Memandang lekat sekumpulan burung-burung merpati sedang memakan jagung dari tangan pengunjung rumah sakit.


Mario mengerutkan dahi mendengar penuturan sang kakak. Dia menoleh pada Chase yang memunggunginya.


"Hn! Entahlah, aku juga tak bisa memastikan berapa lama." Mario mengangkat bahu. "Memang kenapa, Chase? Sebab apa?"


Chase menarik napas dalam. Ia membalik tubuhnya, menatap lekat bola mata Mario. "Karena ... menurut hasil pemeriksaanku yang lainnya, Vina hamil anak keduamu. Usia kandungannya baru seminggu ..."

Malam ketika saudarinya meninggal kecelakaan. Davina Oswalden mengetahui kenyataan siapa ayah kandung Baby El (Eleanore Oswalden). Berbekal surat wasiat saudarinya, Davina nekad datang ke kota Vancouver, Canada - bersama Baby El; bayi laki-laki berusia lima bulan. 
Davina mengetahui fakta yang tidak diketahuinya selama ini, ketika dia mengetuk pintu rumah keluarga Archielo ... pria itu---ayah kandung Baby El---mencium dan memeluknya, membisikkan kata ....

Ketika penyesalan masa lalu menghantui seorang Mario Archielo ... tiba-tiba, suatu hari pintu rumahnya diketuk oleh seorang wanita manis nan mungil, lalu menyodorkan bayi laki-laki lucu padanya.
