"My birthday is coming up," Joon Woo reminded proudly. My smile turned upside down all of a sudden.

I had totally forgotten that his birthday was in exactly five days! Five days were less than a week, only 120 hours meaning only 7200 minutes! His birthday was at the 6th of July. "Want to just visit my house?" he suggested happily. "My mother wanted you to come over to celebrate!"

"S-sure," answered nervously. I wasn't going to reject him, it would be awkward if I didn't. Plus I could never think of another excuse, his birthday was a public holiday so I couldn't blame it on school. 

The only problem was, was that I didn't get him a gift yet! Silence came back to haunt us again, I didn't know what to say now. I was lost in my panic. 

"So, how are your-" Joon woo tried to start a conversation to break the awkward atmosphere but... 

"RINGGGGGGG!!!" Joon Woo's phone rang loudly like a loud bell to wake everyone up even though it was already the afternoon. 

"Manager-" I was reading out the person who called Joon Woo's phone but before I could finish, Joon Woo snatched the phone and walked right out of the room to answer the call. 

I didn't know why he was being so secretive, normally he would answer calls in front of me but this time he walked outside. It was unusual of him. I picked up my cat plush from my bed and hugged it tightly. 

The phone call was taking awhile, so long I was kicking my legs back and forth boredly. I wondered why the phone call was so long, I really wanted to eavesdrop but he was standing right outside. 

I slowly sneaked to the door and put my ears to hearing mode. 

"I have to go now, I'll come right away," that was all I could hear but I knew right away he was going to return back into the room again so I rushed back onto the bed. 

I sat there and pretended like nothing happened, waiting for him to open the door. 

The door finally opened and Joon Woo walked slowly but with a little rush back into my room. 

"So what was it-" I asked him but his following sentence immediately cut my sentence short and unfinished.

I realised he was going to speak so I shut my mouth and waited. 

"I have to go Snow," he said a little disappointedly. "I am sorry to have to cut this short..." 

"It's okay!" I reassured him to make him feel better. I led him to the door and waved a big bye to him. 

"SLAM!" The door slammed loudly. 

Once I saw Joon Woo leaving, I ran into my room and broke into a panic state. I hadn't seen Joon Woo for so long that I had forgotten his birthday was coming up in the speed of lightning!

I looked around my room, looking for something to get money from. I could sell some of my stuff but that would take awhile and I didn't want to give away anything in my room, not the mention my house. 

I looked across my laptop, it gave me an idea. I walked over to my desk and sat down on my chair. I leaned back and pushed my books aside. 

I turned on my laptop, opened google and started to search for online jobs. I only found one trustworthy website in half an hour. 

I really couldn't seem to find any online jobs no matter how hard I tried. All the jobs seemed so... I un-fitting to me. I saw many job interview sights but I realised that an real life physical job would only give pay checks after every week. 

I searched for a few hours, there were chess competitions or other competitions but I wasn't talented at anything other than writing, sleeping and eating. You see I wasn't a multi-talented person. 

By the time I made it through the entire list of websites, it was already passed midnight, way past midnight already. I had used up more than an hour on doing this. 

I looked out of the window to see pitch darkness. I yawned tiredly and decided to just sleep and think about it tomorrow. There was no use of constantly using up your energy when there was no hope, might as well wait for the next day and maybe get some good luck next time. 

When I fell exhaustedly on the bouncy and jiggly bed, I started to think about other ways to make money. There were many other ways that could earn money but not suitable on such a short notice. Why didn't I just save money from last time, that would be easy, wouldn't it be? 

At this point of time, I wondered whether I should just ask my parents for some money. I didn't want to take more money from them, I was already so grateful for all they have done for me. Without them, I would most probably be stuck in an orphanage now. 

I had a bad headache, thinking about what do now, Joon Woo has given me so many different presents. From a pillow, to multiple soft plushies even to an entire school bag collection with a set of keychains and lunch bags. If I didn't get him a decent gift, it would seem like he has given so many things to me and I haven't given anything good to him. 

After thinking and thinking, my mind cleared after I fell asleep. 

I woke up when my alarm clock started to ring, it was already ten in the morning. I didn't actually set an alarm for today since today and the few days after this would be a public holiday. It's just that I set a 'just in case' alarm for everyday at ten am, just in case I sleep in too late. 

When I woke up and cleared my mind, I decided to go to the mall to see what I could buy for him. 

I walked to the bathroom tiredly but also very excited to see what I could buy. I just knew that I would have to restrain myself from buying expensive things. My toothpaste was almost out so I squeezed the very last bit of paste on my toothbrush. 

After freshening up in the bathroom, I looked for something to wear. My wardrobe had clothes from dresses, to skirts all the way to basic pants and a shirt. I chose a black shirt that had a panda design with red and basic shorts. 

My clothing style was always casual and a little fashionable, I mean your outfit should at least match. The mall was not very far away so I decided to just walk, I haven't exercise after eating that heavy meal yesterday. 

I walked into the mall and straight away went to the bookstore. Joon Woo always studied anyway, or at least that is what he told me. I was thinking of getting something he could use to study with from now on. 

I walked around the bookstore, not knowing really what to get but trying to decide something that Joon Woo would like. It was funny, Joon Woo always knew what I liked but I didn't know his likes and dislikes that much. 

"Could I help you, miss?" the bookstore assistant asked with a friendly voice. I turned to her with a relief smile, showing that I really needed help. 

"What do you think would be a good birthday gift for a childhood friend?" I asked back. I never knew what to give you Joon Woo every time, I always planned ahead of time. 

"I know, maybe you could decorate a scrapbook for him! We have many notebooks, pens and marker in store!" she suggested happily as a bright light bulb appeared on top of her, she acted like she had found a cure to a pandemic virus or something like that. Then she started to promote the bookstore, she was an worker, after all. She couldn't not promote the store. 

I actually liked that idea, I could fill it with the memories we have made throughout the years. I thanked her kindly and gratefully, then I went to the notebook section to pick out a notebook. 

There were notebooks of every colour of the rainbow, it was hard to choose. Some which looked nice was the light purple notebook and the medium blue notebook, they both looked nice and colourful to design. However, I finally remembered very well that Joon Woo's most favourite colour ever since he was young was blue so I immediately went to pick up the last blue coloured notebook. 

Once I picked a nice notebook, I searched for some examples on google, I have never made a scrapbook before, not to mention a diary, I already knew this was going to take awhile. 

I walked to the nearby decorations section which looked colourful. I was excited to see if they would have everything I wanted. 

I just picked up the best looking pens, markers, decorating tape and stickers to decorate the scrapbook. It just took awhile to decide the colour, pattern and I had to imagine how the decoration would look in my scrapbook. 

Right after all that hard time deciding, I suddenly remembered something important. I should've known that I didn't have any money yet... 

There was no way I was going to put everything back so I scrolled over to the counter. 

"Can you keep this for me until I get enough money?" I asked the cashier at the front. She hesitated for awhile and was speechless. I stood there awkwardly waiting for an answer.

She told me to wait and walked to her fellow co-worker. She started to whisper into the other worker's ear quietly. I stared there confusedly. 

"Okay, I guess. However, don't make it wait too long." she replied reluctantly but trying to make some exceptions. 

I passed her my basket of items then saw her putting all my items into a plastic bag that she kept in the back drawer. 

I thanked him, I owned him a lot. 

When I went home, I straight away bounced up the stairs and skipped over to my room. I really needed to get some money and start decorating, there were only four days left. I calculated that I only needed thirty dollars and five cents to get everything I needed for the scrapbook. 

My laptop was already low on battery after forgetting to charge it last night so I plugged it into a cable to charge. I started to scroll through some other websites I hadn't checked yet. 

"Proofreader for seventeen dollars each day," I read out from the website. 

That was perfect, I liked English so I knew how to proofread fast and carefully. I messaged the writer about the job and surprisingly, she replied in less than two minutes. I heard that normally, job employers would respond after a few hours at the least. 

The message read," Sure but could you take this small online test first, here is the link." It was followed by a link which I opened immediately. It was just a simple grammar and spelling test. It was quite simple but included many grammar and spelling mistakes most people get wrong. 

I finished it in less than five minutes and took a screenshot to send my results to the author. I had gotten full marks so I wasn't very nervous to send the screenshot. 

The author I was texting replied with a message that read," Wow, no one else could pass the test, speaking about acing it, your hired!" 

I never knew it was that easy to get an online job, it's just that it would take awhile to look for. 

I smiled and couldn't help but stand up and start to party. I was so happy. I was sent a link to a long chapter of writing. 

I sat down on the chair and started to slowly and carefully proofread everything. Easy enough, two days past and I got more than enough money by sitting on a chair and reading, my favourite thing!

Alone, I racked my brain as to how I came to be here. I could only surmise one possibility and that was I somehow had transmigrated into Rosaleen's body after my death.
I felt my throat tightened with emotions once again. Despite that I felt sad, however, I wasn't that sad. I had expected to die and I had done the most important things I had wanted done in the limited time I had left; like spending precious time with loved ones such as my parents and grandparents as well as my friends, and broke up with the boyfriend who cheated on me. 
Although I must admit a part of me was still unsatisfied with my previous life. I had always wanted to travel and explore the world, enjoying immersing myself in new cultures, and sampling all types of different cuisines. Not to mention falling in love and be in a romantic relationship with someone who genuinely loves, cares, and respects me. But that was not meant to be. My life was cut short, and no matter how much I wail at the unfairness of it all, it wasn't going to change.
The water was getting colder now, and I didn't want to stay in it much longer. I didn't want to catch a cold, considering how low my immune system seemed to be.I couldn't believe I transmigrated into such a frail body. Then again, this was probably the reason 
why I ended up here in the first place, since we matched as mine was very frail after the chemotherapy sessions.
Of course, I had never believed in supernatural phenomena such as this, but the world was a vast place. Undoubtedly, miracle like this was bound to happen now and again.
I struggled to get out of the tub as I worked on pushing myself up. I managed somehow, with a foot landing on the marble floor. I was just getting the other one out when I felt myself stumbling forward, landing on the floor on my knees.
Pain shot through me and I groaned, my eyes closed.
When the pain on my knees subsided a little, I opened my eyes, and that was when I saw something flashing. It had blue light in the shape of a square button like those advertisements on the internet, enticing me to click on it.
What?
I rubbed my eyes, thinking I was seeing things. The button, however, was still there. I squinted and found it had letters on the button. It read OPEN SESAME.
I tilt my head to one side, and because I was curious, I reached my hand out and touched my finger on the button. Instantly another screen appeared. It looked so much like an online shopping site back at home. I couldn't believe it.
My hands shaky, I started scrolling, like I had done countless times with my smartphone. This time, however, my finger didn't touch a plastic glass screen of a smartphone or a tablet. This time, I was touching air.
The screen changed again to lists of items like I had seen in various online shopping site, from clothing to home appliances to skincare and cosmetic and more.
I was, naturally, dumbfounded.
This is real, right? I'm not seeing things, right? I'm not hallucinating, right?
To prove to myself that I hadn't gone mad, I decided I'd need to buy something. Now then, what did I need?
Ah! Aspirin. After all, that medicinal tea didn't work one bit. Why should I have to suffer drinking the darn thing anyway?
I scrolled through the pharmaceutical department, and voilà, I found a list of painkillers products, as well others for cold and flu that didn't need prescription from a doctor. I didn't recognize any of the brands though the writings on the packaging was in English. Anywho, brand wasn't important right now.
Now, I just needed to put one into my shopping cart to see if this was for real or it was just my hallucination, considering how sick I was.
I picked one and clicked to add into my shopping cart. Then I checked out.
The next page popped up, and surprisingly enough, it had all my details, including my name, which was Rose O'Connor-Kim, and bank account details, including the amount, which was thirty-grand.
Thirty-grand.
That was how much money I had left in my bank account back home before I died.
Strange. Very strange indeed.
I continued with ordering the product by scrolling down. There, the page asked when I'd like my order to be delivered. But how could my order be delivered if the system didn't have my address? Maybe it'd ask me to put it in after?
I went ahead and choose when I'd like my order to be delivered which had the options of IMMEDIATELY or CHOOSE YOUR DATE.
I chose IMMEDIATELY.
I finished the checkout and the screen changed to THANK YOU FOR SHOPPING WITH OPEN SESAME. It didn't ask me to put in my residential address, that was if I even knew where I was right now.
Done. Now what?
Puff!
A small packet popped out of nowhere and landed on the floor before me. I stared, wide eyes.
Did that truly just happen?
Still sprawling there on the floor, I picked up the packet and inspected the product. It had ASPIRIN written in bold letters in the front. It said: REDUCE PAIN, FEVER, AND INFLAMMATION below that. At the bottom, it had a fancy logo of Open Sesame.
I opened the box and took out the tablets, very much like those back at home. I stared at it for a moment and then broke the seal and popped two pills into my mouth. I swallowed as I gazed heavenward. "Thank you," I whispered softly.
Whatever was happening and whatever this magical Open Sesame was, I was very grateful, and I wasn't questioning how it came about. It was about time Rosaleen had a break anyhow.
Slowly, I managed to move and sat, resting my back against the tub behind me for a moment. Then I pulled myself up to a standing position. Now on my feet, I started stripping myself naked of the wet clothing. Done, I reached out and grabbed a robe sitting on the counter not too far away and put it on. I was just heading over to the door when Mary came rushing in.
"My lady," she said. "You should have called me."
The girl rushed to me and then aided me back into the bedroom. The packet of aspirin was hidden well away from prying eyes.

"Here's the book you asked us to proofread kid." Ms. Val said as she handed over the book to a kid, he was around my age, maybe younger.

I was at the back, arranging and stacking books. I wasn't that far in the back so I can hear their conversation pretty well.

"Wow, that was quick. Thank you so much! Say, has anyone told you that you look like that Mask Girl?"

"Mask Girl? Who's that?"

"You know, the mysterious girl with a mask which came out of nowhere during the monster attack in the school stadium the other night. She looked so cool as she battled the monster."

"Ahh, well. Who's to say that she's not me?" Ms. Val said as she let out a chuckle, snort laughing along the way.

I went out of the back, carrying books that haven't been proofread yet. I looked at them as they were talking to each other. What? I want to hear how their conversation ends, it sounds interesting. 

I was confused when the kid said that the Masked Girl, a.k.a Ms. Val, looked cool while fighting the monster. I got confused because as far as I know, Rachelle and I were the ones doing all of the fighting, well, dancing. Wait a minute, did Ms. Val used that amnesia powder on the students?

I was about to butt in until I remembered that I got knocked out by a table the monster threw at me.

I forgot that I got knocked out, so maybe what the kid said about the Masked Girl looking cool while fighting the monster happened when I was knocked out. With that in mind, I just let them continue their conversation.

"What? No, you can't be the masked girl. She was cool and foxy, and, no offense but, you're the opposite of her."

"What!?"

"She looked cute and cool and beautiful, you're not anywhere close to her. Your cat can be the Masked Girl though. Anyway, thank you for proofreading my book. Here's my payment. Thank you again." The kid placed his payment on the counter in front of Ms. Val and started walking out the door.

"If the author of this book wasn't so 'stick to pg13' the blood of that kid would've gone everywhere. Unbelievable. Hey, did you hear that Blueth? 'You're the opposite of the Masked Girl' What's that supposed to mean? I AM the masked girl!"

"Well, I can't argue with him Ms. Val, you are the opposite of that Masked Girl."

"What are you talking about!? I am the Masked Girl that kid was talking about!"

"I don't know, the Masked Girl is foxy, and you look like a plank."

"Okay, that's just rude and I am foxy! It's just these baggy clothes I have."

"No, I still don't see it." I said as I placed one book on top of the table. "Well, are you going to help me proofread these books or what?"

"Sorry kiddo, can't help you today. I have to prove my worth of being Masked Girl! I don't know why I still need to prove that I am her, but still. Fame awaits me! Later Blueth! Watch the house while I'm away!"

Ms. Val waved her finger and just like that, her outfit changed from baggy clothes to this violet tattered dress with a violet masquerade mask to complete it. Her scarf also changed, it turned from its maroon-ish color to violet, matching her dress.

"Wait, you're telling me that you'll go running around, showing people that you have magic, and telling them that Masked Girl's true identity is Ms. Val? The proofreader?"

"Yes."

"I thought you were keeping your magic a secret!?"

"Don't worry kid, I'll throw some amnesia powder at their faces when I told them my true identity."

I looked at Ms. Val with confusion on my face. "Then what's the point of telling them your identity if you'll just throw amnesia powder at their faces!?"

Ms. Val stayed quiet as she looked at me. I looked back at her with one of my eyebrows raised.

"To fame and fortune!" Ms. Val suddenly screamed as she ran away towards the door. And with that, she was out in the streets. I can hear Ms. Val screaming, telling people that she's the Masked Girl.

"Wow, could you believe that Cathy? Well, looks like it'll be you and me proofreading the books." I looked over towards Cathy who was laying on top of the counter and I saw her wearing the same mask as Ms. Val. "Oh no, don't tell me you too."

"Sorry Blueth, but fame and fortune sound nice to have. So, have fun proofreading!" Cathy then jumped off of the counter and started running towards the door.

"Well, guess it'll just me who will proofread all of these books then. Me and Mr. and Mrs. Socks!" I said to myself as I pulled out sock puppets I made and placed my hand inside of them, moving their mouths as I speak in their voices I made up. What? I sometimes like to play puppets, don't judge me, we all have these weird hobbies. "Now, which book to proofread first?"

I kneeled in front of the books which were laying on the ground as I chose which of them I'll proofread first. It's so hard to decide! There are so many! Ugh! My greatest enemy! Choosing!

I kept looking at the books laying on the floor, choosing which book to proofread. As I was looking at them, something caught my eye. I looked over at the table and I saw that a book was already placed on top of the big magical book.

"Huh, I don't remember placing this one on top of the proofreading book." I closed the book to see what's the title of it. "Hmm, Child's Birthday?"

I started reading a few parts of the book to see what's it about. It was about a kid which was celebrating his birthday, but no one came to his party, not even his friends or relatives. He was celebrating his birthday alone.

"Well, I guess I'm going to be needing this then." I grabbed a box of tissue paper because I know this will start making me cry. What? Sad stories make me cry, don't judge.

I placed the book on top of the proofreading book and it began glowing. "Huh, the proofreading book wasn't supposed to glow without tapping on it first. Oh well, that should be fine."

I climbed on top of the table and tapped the proofreading book with my foot. And the proofreading books light grew brighter and it surrounded me. The lights faded and I was now inside the book.

"Wow, what a bad time for Ms. Val and Cathy to leave me behind." I said as I looked around, taking in the background. The background was filled with fog, lots of it.

As I was looking around, checking my surroundings. I felt something run past behind me. I quickly turned around and I saw nothing but trees. Chills started running down my spine as I felt something watching me within the trees.

"This is a horror genre, isn't it...? I should've read the whole book..."

Blueth Mendoza, a 16-year-old girl looking for a job as a proofreader to pass the time of her summer vacation, finds not only a job but also finds something else, something magical and weird.

So I have my exams in around 2 weeks but I decided to change course so I will be switching so their only important if I don't pass the interview for the other course which I doubt. 
Now, what about this well I decided I'm going to rewrite It to a much more serious degree so all chapters will be deleted but I may copy some of the chapters every now and then and will let you know if all the chapter is a CnP (copy and paste) or just a bit of CnP, However, updates may still be slow although not a 2 month or whatever gap like it is right now prob a week depending but I will delete the chapters today and come up with some ideas or prob keep some chapters I may keep the start where he is reborn and change some skills or something etc so look forward to it.

"I wish to create a open world VRMMO-RPG game. One of more than 100 floors, and a initial exam that is required after completing the tutorial. The tutorial would be short but cover all main game mechanics. The exams after the tutorial will test all of those different mechanisms. 

For example, on the first exam players will be running for miles, the players will have a stamina bar and if they run out of stamina or can't keep up to reach the end of the race on time they'll fail. 

Allowing players to see how much stamina they are starting with and how long it takes to completely deplete it. So they can learn to optimize their stamina levels in the future. 

There would be 4 stages to the exams, so clearly it will be time consuming just for the exams alone but we can find a work around."

Also when creating characters, players will choose a class archetype. Each archetype would have some kind of downside so that there can be diversity between players. At launch, we can have six classes to choose from; Mage, Illusionist, Slayer, Berserker, Medic, and Rogue. Along with this they will also be choosing their sub-class and base Render ability. Leveling up will enable the player to unlock more Render abilities based off of their sub-class. 

This was Ender's original pitch for 'Ender's Playground' a game that had yet to be created or given a name in the year 2121.
"I have been dreaming of a game like this for 16 years every since 2105" Ender said. 

Ender was born in 2093 and was currently 28 years old. He quickly grew tired of the VR games he played while growing up. By time he was age 12 he came up with a new VR game that would alter the very existence of games as a whole. 

"And what do you believe would be the minimum production cost of this game?" Head director at Slender Entertainment questions. 

"As a minimum I believe the cost would be $225,536,397." Ender articulates nonchalantly. 

"My God, did you just make that up?" A man sitting next to the head director blurts out after doubting the numbers authenticity. 

"Oh no, I assure you, I used the correct math for the production, marketing, and distribution cost down to the last cent." Ender fires back
"I have the math work with me if you desire to proofread my work." 

"There will be no need for that." Interrupts the Head Director, "I like it, let us begin with a start budget of $225 million or whatever." 

"We'll also need at least 450 people working on every aspect of the game in order to finish in the next 4 years." Ender adds

Three years later the games goes live for the first time on New Years Day 2124. The game was set to be released on February 10th of that same year but a tragic accident struck Ender on December 30th, and he underwent  a heart attack, placing him in a comatose state. Feeling saddened, Slender Inc. decides to release the game early in honor of Ender. 

Vander Kirino, a 15 year old boy living in Saitama, Japan, gets word of the early release and checks online to see where his game currently is.

When Vander, nicknamed Rino (for his last name), saw the location of his game he quickly put on his shoes and ran out the house.

'I have to get my game as soon as possible, I'll take this cut and meet the FedEx truck on the back street.' Rino thought

"Hah. There it is." He exclaimed excitedly as he sped up to catch the truck. 
When the truck finally stopped Rino caught it in front of someone's house. 

"Hey old man, do you have my game?" Rino asks the postman. 

"Oh it's you Vander…" the postman says jokingly. 

'Stop calling mii that you old geezer.'

As Kirino stands there agitated, the postman grabs his package from the back of the truck-

"Here's your game kiddo." as he motions to Kirino. 

When Kirino hears the word "game" he immediately snapped out of his fiery state to accept it. 

"Thanks, well I'll see you later old man" Rino exclaims as he starts running away.

"Wow that kid, always moving." The postman states as he reminisced about Rino as a child. 

Kirino speeds home almost faster than he ran while chasing after the truck. When he finally gets home, he runs into his mom in the driveway as she is leaving on Japanese government official business. Kirino is a Japanese- American who moved from America to Japan when he was eight years old. This was due to his mom working for the Japan Self-Defense Force. 
  
"Vander grab these bags for me" Rino's mom orders. 

"Ahh, but mom-" Rino exclaims tiredly 

"No but's, I've already told you I was leaving for my Ambassador trip to England."

Kirino eagerly runs his mom's suitcase to the end of the driveway for the shofar to get.
He can't wait any longer, he really wants to play his new game.

"Thank you son, now I'll be back in 3 weeks, so wait for me okay?" Rino's mom orders

"Alright I'll see you soon." He says back

Kirino speedily took off towards his room, took off his shoes, grabbed his True Exper VR tech and laid down. 

Entering the game into its socket he said…

"I've been waiting a long time for this."

"Time to go on another Death March." He exclaims

Ender’s Playground, a dream game of the genius developer Ender, took the world by storm in 2124. Vander Kirino, a boy living in Saitama, Japan has anticipated the game’s release since it was announced in early development, somehow gains access to a secret special class type. It's been a few days since Nate had passed his sign-up form online, having done so when he got back to his dorm. He's been nervous ever since because he's asked Lynn if there's an interview when signing up for a position at her org.
"Yes," She had answered, not even sparing him a glance as she worked on proof-reading the articles she's been passed. "It is not that difficult, really. But still, professionalism is needed, President is a bit strict.. kinda."
So that's gotten him nervous. He's had a class with the EONS organization's President in the previous year, and he still couldn't shake off the intimidation he felt around her. While she was kind and had a cheerful personality, he could feel the leader-like features flowing off from whatever she does. Whenever he'd ask a question about the org's President, Analyn would laugh it off, he found it odd.
He arrives at the mess hall, having finished classes earlier since the professor decided to dismiss them thirty minutes earlier due to everyone passing their homework before deadline. Luckily it also gave him time to read up on his notes for his next class, he knows that he has a test later.
Until he receives a text from Analyn.
[ Analyn (14:16) : It is your vacant period, right? President is free right now for you interview, if you don't mind. ] 
Nate stares at the text. Checking the time, he still has an hour before his next class. Seeing that he's studied enough for the test, there's nothing he couldn't risk, right?
Having thought about it enough, he packs his things away into his bag and stands up.
"Woah, I just got here and you're leaving already? Did I do something to you?" Kol says, having just sat down at the table he was at. Nate flashes an apologetic smile, slinging his bag onto his shoulder.
"I got an interview at EONS, sorry dude. We're still eating dinner with the otherslater anyway, don't sweat it." Nate says, waving before heading out of the mess hall. Nervousness taps at his thoughts as he heads to the Akadem sector, which is where the EONS organization is found. He finds himself turning the wrong way, having forgotten that the newspaper org had switched from being inside one of Akadem's main buildings to an abandoned two-storey building that the university had refurnished for the org to stay at.
Upon getting on the org's area, he spots Lynn standing by the porch, waving at him.
"You got here earlier than I expected." She says, amusement evident in her tone. She motions to the door with her head, saying, "Clary is inside at her office."
"You guys act like an actual publishing company, feels like I'm actually applying for a job." Nate chuckles, trying to laugh away the nervousness as he follows after Lynn inside the place. This really feels like a job simulation to him, how everything looks so professional with people typing into their laptops at desks and such. He recognises a few people from his classes, waving at them when they acknowledge his presence. He wonders if it would be rude to suddenly sign up for a top role in the org such as News Editor, but then again this is just an organization, it's not as serious as a job.
"Hey, what's the second floor for?" He asks, noticing the door reading "do not enter". Lynn gives it a glance before turning back to the direction where his interview will be conducted. 
"We do not really disclose the second floor for just anyone, there are only a select few that gets to go up there." She answers, heading to a door. He notices the way she brushes off the topic so easily, though he doesn't ask any more questions. She knocks first, pushing the door open just enough for her to peek in, "Pres? Nate is here."
"Nate?"
"My soon to be co-editor."
"Ah, send him in." 
Lynn turns to him, fully opening the door. She spares him a kind smile, saying, "Good luck, try not to stutter or anything."
"I'll try." He answers, smiling nervously as he enters. When the door closes behind him, he spots Clary, the President of EONS. A guy is standing in front of her, desk, holding a laptop in front of him in such a position as if he was showing her something. Nate flashes a smile, greeting, "Hello, you received my e-mail, right?"
"Yeah, it was professional. It seemed like you were applying for an actual job, it's amusing." She says, chuckling lightly. She turns to the guy in front of her, passively waving a hand, "We'll talk more about this later, you don't have afternoon classes today, right?"
"Of course, madam. You know me well." The guy says, picking up the laptop and turning to the door. He grins at Nate saying, "Good luck to 'ya, she's a feisty one. Might bite."
"Oh, Chen, don't scare off a new editor." Clary chuckles, though he could tell there was a stern edge to her tone.
"Nah, I know 'ya." Chen says, heading out the door. As Clary motions to the chair in front of her desk, Nate goes ahead to take a seat. 
"You know my name, right?" She says, tapping on the placard on the desk. It adds a touch of professionalism to their organization, especially the way the placard seems to be made out of metal. Upon further observation, he could tell it was just plastic. On it reads her name, "Rosaline Clarielle Albeon" with the words "President of EONS Organization" below it. He wonders if other editors had the same placard or it's just her as the leader.
"We were in the same class once, of course I do." He says, trying to act casual to a degree. They've been classmates, it wouldn't really dampen his supposed professionalism to act so, right? "I assume you still remember mine?"
"How could I forget a name like Ignatius Kron? It's unique, more so that you choose to be called Nate." She chuckles.
"Well, it isn't really that comfortable for me to be called Ignatius, it sounds.. Hacrene." He says, lightly shrugging.
"Ah, so we have the same predicament, then? Imagine me being called Rosaline or Clarielle, it's all too Hacrene-like. Clary is just fine." She leans back in her chair. The silence follows causes him to fidget in place, by the way Clary had just been staring him down even though she was much shorter gets him unnerved. She clasps her hands, saying, "So, News Editor, huh?" 
"I could just go for Editor, really, but I've had the same position at the journalism club back in Devel." He explains, trying to feel comfortable in his seat. "Lynn told me she needed to take some work off her shoulders and asked me to apply, I don't really mind applying."
"Is that so? Well, with the examples you sent me I could tell you're a pretty decent writer. Because you're applying to be an editor I want to see how you proofread. I had Analyn give me an article she hasn't edited yet, I wanted to see how you'd proofread it for the writer to make changes on." She says, turning her laptop around so it would face him. "Ah right- do you want anything to drink?"
��No thanks, I'm good." He says, moving the chair forward to he could see the screen of the laptop. Just from reading the first line of the draft he could see grammar errors already. This should take him a while.
"Is something wrong?" Clary asks, eyebrows raised in concern. "You can start editing now."
"Ah, right, I'll get started." He mumbles, bringing his hands up to the keyboard. He starts on spotting the spelling mistakes, mumbling under his breath what they got wrong. The mumbling was on purpose, he can't really help but make some noise as how silent it was in the room. He feels unnerved as to how Clary is simply staring at him, though she'd write down something he couldn't see as the laptop's monitor was blocking his view from the rest of the table.
"You're a History major, right?" She asks, looking up from what she was writing. He pauses on typing, having read about a quarter of the article.
"Yeah.. it was a compulsive decision, I never really planned on going to a university," He admits, continuing to type. "I went to the entrance exam and surprisingly got in with a scholarship, so I couldn't really turn it down."
"So what would you have been doing if you didn't go to Valnix?" She questions again, writing a few more things on whatever notes she was taking.
"I originally planned on getting a culinary course, but even if I did or didn't I could just work at my family's diner in the Pykrest part in this state." He answers, looking up. "Is my answer crucial to me getting the position?"
"No, I just wanted to know you better. Carry on with the proofreading." She smiles, tapping on the table. "Hmm.. what got you interested in being a History major, though?"
"Well, I've always liked learning about History. Since each state teaches History differently, I wanted to know each states' perspective on Rapille's History." He explains, halfway done with his proofreading. Checking the time, he has half an hour before his next class. He has to get this done soon. He continues, not wanting to cut his explanation short, "Most likely at the era when the Suffocation happened."
"That was 25 years ago, but still not a lot of information was reported other than it was destructive." Clary says, an amused tone in her voice. "Do you agree?"
He tries not to shudder from her stare, the way she had asked him that seemed like she was evaluating him.
"I can't really form my own opinion if I don't know most of the perspective told about it." Nate shrugs, turning the laptop around so it would face her. "I've finished."
"That was fast. I imagined you would be taking your time." She smiles, leaning closer to check the laptop. "What time is your next class?"
"In.. like fifteen minutes." He checks his wristwatch, turning back to her, "Is it alright if I go or is the interview still going on?"
"I'll get back to you after checking this edit." She says, nodding along. She passively waves a hand, telling him, "You can go now, I'll just send you an email. You got the position, honestly, but there's a few more things we need to discuss."
A knock on the door resounds throughout the room, the door opening to the blonde girl holding a laptop, "Clary, you free?"
"I am now." She says, standing up. Smiling at Nate, she holds her hand out, "Welcome to EONS, Nate, I'll introduce you to the team soon, is that alright?"
"I don't really mind. See you around." He stands to shake her hand, heading out of the room. He nods in acknowledgement to the girl who had just entered the room, then stepping out. 
He got the part, right? Now he just has to study hard so he can keep his scholarship.
That's all there is to it.

“You mentioned being part of the journalism club in your school, right?”

Those are the very words that lead him to the turning point of his life.

Nate wished he never joined EONS, the famed news organization of Valnix University. Upon meeting the cheerful and head-strong leader, Clary, he realised that the cheerful front she puts up was just a cover-up; along with the entire organization she had created. His life, once lived with ignorance, had become riddled with revealing the truth, facing threats, and barely missing the swing of death just to dig up crucial information for the public to be aware about.

He had wished he had never joined EONS, but no matter how hard he wishes, he cannot regret stepping inside the organization’s building.

Recently, I have been writing super often, doing hundreds of words every day. Due to this, I am going to get a set schedule for my writing
