That young maiden waved her hand and stopped the middle-aged man, she looked at Mo Wuji then turned and spoke warmly to Pang Qi and co., "Even though I don't know how this dao friend managed to survive in the Lost Swamp, I can confirm that not everyone would be as lucky. If the  few of you insist on going to the Lost Swamp, I can only wish you good luck. If the few of you wish to join my Chu Clan, while I can't guarantee what the future will hold, I can assure you that you will no longer be pursued."

Otherwise, you could even meet a Class 7 demonic beast. Many thanks for your warning. I have a route map here. This route avoids some danger zones and could allow you to reach the Fallen Ruins safely in a short amount of time. As long as you reach the Fallen Ruins, it would be the same as reaching the Zhen Mo Continent."

With that, Pang Qi retrieved a map and handed it over to Mo Wuji.

If Brother Pang insists on going to the Lost Continent, I would suggest that you do not go through the Lost Swamp because this is unquestionably a death trap. I do have a map which shows a route to the Lost Continent. It also has its own dangers, if you're not careful, you might even meet a Class 7 demonic beast.

I was being chased after by a Class 7 demonic beast, which was why I jumped into the Lost Swamp. Of course, when compared to the Lost Swamp, I feel that at least this route would give you a better chance of survival. However, I still wouldn’t advise Brother Pang to take it. I have another suggestion, which might be able to help Brother Pang shake off the pursuit of the Jing Clan."

Hearing that Mo Wuji had been chased by a Class 7 demonic beast and still managed to turn out safe and sound after crossing the Lost Swamp, not only did a sense of awe brew within Pang Qi’s heart, even that young maiden saw Mo Wuji in a higher light. A Class 7 demonic beast, if she was the one who encountered it, she might not be able to guarantee her survival. But this ordinary looking youth in front of her actually managed to jump out from the Class  demonic beast’s mouth.

At this moment, many people started suspecting whether Mo Wuji had came from the Lost Continent. But Mo Wuji did not have the intention of clarifying it so they would do better not to ask about it.

As she was speaking, the young maiden had already retrieved four identification jade tokens for the Star Wars Battlefield.

"How many spirit stones?" Mo Wuji asked subconsciously. If he could obtain this identification token, then he wouldn’t need to rush to break into the True Lake Stage.

The young maiden laughed gently, "Previously, my words were a little inappropriate and I was overly prudent with my map back to the Zhen Mo Continent. These Star Wars identification tokens can be taken as a form of compensation. Goodbye friends, may we meet again in the future."

When she finished speaking, the young maiden stuffed the jade tokens into Mo Wuji’s hands, turning and gesturing to the teen girl and the middle-aged man before she rushed out of the area, soon disappearing within the Lost Sky Ruins.

Seeing Mo Wuji’s disbelief, Pang Qi explained, "These jade tokens might be valuable to us but to those big clans, it doesn’t matter much. That Senior Chu must really admire you so she left behind these jade tokens as a form of goodwill."

In simpler terms, these jade tokens weren’t worth mentioning to those huge clans. Leaving a few behind for them was a casual act of goodwill.

Mo Wuji also came to understand, it was like when he obtained placings for the Five Elements Desolate Domain. To him, he could casually hand those placings away. But to the rogue cultivators of the Lost Continent, each placing was as valuable as their lives.

Regardless, Mo Wuji would remember this kindness.

Mo Wuji passed the three other jade tokens and his map to Pang Qi and co., "This one token is enough for me. I will pass the rest to you, may we meet again in the future.

Pang Qi accepted the three jade tokens but not the map. Instead, he turned and looked at Rong He and Xiong Xingteng, "Now that we have obtained the qualifications to enter the Star Wars, I have an idea. Since we have a 90% chance of dying before we could even reach the Lost Continent, why don’t we just head to the Star Wars Battlefield? Left and right is death, might as well do something useful."




Here, only those with spiritual roots can cultivate while those with mortal roots are destined to stay mortal.

The carrack had compartments and rooms provided for Samuel and Ephraim. They had chosen to sleep on the hammocks, which should sway about the sea as it sails the ocean. Though they could have chosen the room that had double-decker beds, Sam and Ephraim thought that hammocks should provide just the same feeling of comfort.

OR it was because they haven't tried to sleep on a hammock inside a wooden, sailing ship. Boats on Earth were as advanced as they can be—there was no way they could have experienced such a once in a lifetime type of happenstance again. 

Redundant, Ephraim thought. They were already experiencing once in a lifetime type of event. Who in the world thought as an Archaeologist, he'd actually experience riding 14th to 17th-century carracks? Ephraim had only seen them in textbooks, and often appeared in the stories of old. 

In the ship's most advanced forms, they were used by the Portuguese for trade between Europe and Asia beginning in the late 15th century, before eventually being supplanted in the 17th century by the galleon—which is large, multi-decked sailing ships ultimately used as armed cargo by states in Europe ranging between the 16th and 18th century during the age of sail and were the principal escapee units for use as warships. 

Ephraim was such a nerd for these types of things. On the majority of the duration of the sail, Ephraim was talking to Captain Borgh about the particulars of the carrack, taking every possible note he could. It took them several hours as well before Samuel gave up on listening to what he said as 'adult lame talks' and went to unwind. 

"Since you're the dungeon conqueror, I was thinking of you being more of a battle freak and more interested in things such as blades and dismantling some enemies," Borgh joked, "but it's surprising you even fable to talk about merchant ships as well. You're truly a wonder, lad!"

'Lad,' Ephraim repeated in his thoughts. That was a good thing. At least he wasn't called the awkward term 'dungeon conqueror' now.

"I'm very much surprised—a pleasant surprise, really—that you know so much about a carraca," said Borgh. "Many would often know carraca as a ship that was inferior to other warship vessels because it's only meant to transport goods, but it's such a beauty. Its design encompasses AND surpasses any other sails. Don't you agree, Lad?"

Ephraim nodded. "That's right. It's my first time seeing one,"

"Oh? It's your first time!"

Shoot. "What I meant it—"

"Then it's an honor to have you, a conqueror, to provide you the first carraca to board."

Carraca—a Portuguese term for carrack ships. Ephraim's slightly frazzled expression gradually softened. "Then I'm glad to be here."

"Still . . ." Borgh said. "Your sword is a mighty different level from any other blade I've seen. But don't misunderstand—I'm neither a blacksmith nor an expert in combat. I just have this dagger in my belt for self-defense,"

Ephraim nodded thoughtfully as Borgh showed him the dagger strapped in his belt under his overcoat.

"Is it the rumored vessel?"

"It's not," Ephraim answered. "The vessel is kind of like . . . not a physical form."

"Ooh, is that so? Your vessel must be special, then."

"Special?"

"You see, Wahid's Vessel—or the Tome of Knowledge—is usually a weapon in itself. Usually, they are glaives, rapiers, bow and arrows, shields, et cetera. They always take a manifestation of a physical weapon that is conquered by an adventurer, a warrior—" Borgh exclaimed, depicting his articulations with hand gestures. "I always hear rumors about some conqueror being unable to use the vessels because it is not their weapons of choice."

"Not their weapon of choice?"

"For example, they would often get a rapier when they're more skilled in long-ranged attacks," Borgh said. "But of course, these are all tell-tales. I don't know much. Ha-ha,"

Ephraim caressed his chin. Then, if it's like that, how is it that he got something different.

"Um . . . Is there a case when there's just, let's say, fire—a sheer fire that acts as the tome of knowledge? Not any weapon; just fire?"

"Hmm," Borgh speculated with his eyes narrowing. "I'm not sure there is . . . Ah! I remember. There's this legend about the first king of Feyfrost conquering the dungeon of the water deity. The story didn't specify what kind of weapon the water deity was, so many just assumed whatever they see fit."

"Water deity?"

"You really don't know anything, don't you, Lad?"

"I—uh,"

"Just kidding! You're still a sprout, a youngling that rose from the ground. So I know you tend to dismiss the history in pursuit of the present,"

Of course, it wasn't true. And it hurt Ephraim's feelings greatly. He was an Archaeologist. He was meant to excavate and uncover things from history itself. From legends and myths alike. This man telling him he didn't give regard to the very thing he had dedicated his whole life with made Ephraim's brow twitch.

But there's no use crying over something as trivial as this. After all . . . 

"You shouldn't tell people that you're both from another world." Guildmaster Shey said.

"Huh? Why?" Sam scowled. "Wouldn't that be stu—"

Ephraim's gloved hand covered Samuel's mouth. "Is there a problem in having people know we're really not from here?"

"You see, the Boundary Crossers are very peculiar and mysterious people. They appeared several years ago in Sembilica and then from their first appearance evoked plagues, wars, and the most fatal blow to Patriargë."

"The most fatal blow to Patriargë? What did they do?"

"I do not have knowledge over what they did since they are surrounded by a dark mist of unknown mystery." Said Shey. "But they were said to be the ones who delivered Patriargë to its lowest low . . ."

"They're very much antagonized," Samuel said after he removed Ephraim's hand on his mouth.

"Yes—which is why I would prefer it if you two would keep your real identities a secret. You can go around the world to tell people that you are from Alaris and orphans Shey Ramgold adopted. Although it won't eliminate the suspicion entirely, it would at least provide a good cover for the two of you."

Samuel listened to their boring discussion about ships and whatnots. He did not study anything like a carrack part whatsoever. Aside from the fact that the famous Cristopher Columbus rode the carrack he made—Santa María—in his voyage at 1492 and the carrack Victoria, which is the first ship to circumnavigate the globe from 1519 to 1522 (which is the only ship that survived on Magellan's expeditions)—Samuel pretty much knew nothing more.

He discovered these random trivia by chance when he was browsing through the internet. And being Samuel Albrecht, the smartest human alive (claimed by him also), there's a hundred percent chance it'll stay in his mind for as long as he would live.

"Mainsails, forecastle, sterns—what the hell," Samuel mumbled. He sat on one of the wooden barrels as he fixated his electric-blue eyes to the similar-colored sky. The clouds were looking thicker and plumper at sea, as it seems.

Sam expected the journey to be about 6-8 hours, considering Alaris and Patriargë seemed to be too close to each other. 

Samuel sighed.

He's really here.

"That president is really fuc—" Samuel blinked, "what's that?" Samuel jumped away from the barrel, his shoe creating a creaking sound to the planks of the ship's floorboards. His gaze was still lifted up to the skies, with his electric-blue eyes pinned to a gleaming star in the horizon.

"UFO?"

But no, it wasn't any UFO.

Ephraim and Captain Borgh talked so much for hours that they noticed it was already sunset. At this point in time, Ephraim noticed that he hasn't seen Samuel come back at least to check on them. Was he that bored and he didn't want to really involve himself with their adult talk?

"Aah, that's very refreshing. Feels like I became a teacher," Borgh said as he stretched. 

"Thank you, Borgh. I learned a lot." Ephraim flashed his usual smile. He used the opportunity earlier to inquire more about the dungeons and Andromeda whilst slipping the topic about the Boundary Crossers from Sembilica bit by bit in the guise of being a curious young man.

"Anytime. It's been a while I talked about these things. And especially to the dungeon conqueror. It's an honor, really." Borgh exclaimed. "Now then. My crew's done cooking dinner by this time. I'm sure you're hungry now, considering we only had some snacks for lunch?"

"Yes, I apologize about that," Ephraim said.

"No, no! It's very much alright. I really enjoyed talking, Conqueror!" The captain beamed. "Now then. I'll go to the crew while you go fetch Samuel up for dinner? Dusk is approaching quite quickly, I daresay!"

Ephraim nodded. "Alright, thank you, Borgh."

After getting out of the Captain's cabin, Ephraim set out to search for Samuel. 

"Sam. Dinner!" He called. "Sam?"

Ephraim's eyes widened as he beholds the spectacle—

Amidst the dismantled barrels was a wet, blue overcoat that soaked the planks' darker brown. Ephraim knelt to the overcoat and then sees the red stains etched on its dampened fabric.

"What happened?!" It was Borgh, who now came rushing to Raim along with his crew.

"Samuel . . ." Ephraim tightened his grip around the overcoat.

"—Isn't gone!" From the sky, a voice yelled out loud: "But you, ALL OF YOU, should vanish without a trace!"

Before anyone could react, the one with the source of the voice landed straight to their ship, with his hook directly supporting his fall.

"I am Jaxon Sparrows, the Captain of Sunken Pirates—" A boy, no older than Samuel, said. His dark and empty fish-like eyes directly looking at Ephraim. "And I am here to kill you all." He said as he licked the hook that served as a replacement on his other hand.

"Now, my minions . . . ATTACK!!!!"

As a man of science, he knew what his weakness was: curiosity. Upon entering the premises of ANDROMEDA, Raim discovers that succumbing to his desires would prove fatal one day.

"If there is one person among you Vandals who looks brighter than the rest, it's you." Calabast suddenly gestured to Ves while holding a bubbling cocktail. "Mr. Larkinson. Ves. I've met several mech designers, and I do say you're a cut above the others."
"Thank you, Miss Calabast." Ves replied stoically. "I do wonder why I've caught your attention. I'm just a mech designer, you know."
Calabast smirked at him. "Don't put yourself down. Compared to those spineless nerds who will never amount to anything in their lives, you've got the air of a leader. I see that your current posting as temporary head designer has done you good."
"An outsider like you shouldn't know stuff like that." Ves replied with sharp eyes.
"You Vandals are lousy at keeping secrets, especially when you are all running around the Harkensen System. It's like you are telling Vesians like me to watch you all. Well, we're here now. If you have something to say to us, speak your words."
"We're at war. The only dialogue that matters is whose fist hits the hardest." He said. His fellow Vandals all agreed. "Outside of that, we don't welcome you."
"Don't be so harsh, Ves. We can't help but pay extra attention to the young head designer who is responsible for managing the thousand mechs of your task force. Ah, excuse me, that figure is already out of date. If I'm correct, your task force is only capable of fielding five-hundred mechs. Is that accurate?"
"Don't answer that, Ves." Nolsen said to him before turning to the Vesian. "Miss Calabast, it's no use trying to show off what you presume to know of us. While we aren't allowed to come to blows under Reinald's auspices, I doubt the Planetary Guard will be pleased when we call them over."
"There's no need for you to go that far, lieutenant." Calabast said. Her smirk dropped a bit after hearing that. "We are friends, are we not?"
"There's no friendship between Vesians and Brighters."
Calabast shook her head. "I very much doubt that. To me, we are peas from the same pod. Think about what the rest of the Komodo Star Sector thinks whenever the Bright Republic and the Vesia Kingdom are mentioned. Aren't we the dysfunctional twins of the star sector? Constantly at war, yet never winning. Some believe we love each other too much to destroy each other."
"What a joke!" Another Vandal erupted. "It's you Vesians who are constantly starting the war by invading our space! If you'd just leave us alone, billions of mech pilots wouldn't have met an early grave!"
Another Vandal joined in as well. "Yeah, don't pretend you Vesians have the high ground. We never asked to be your punching bags."
"If we never started our preemptive invasions, you Brighters would have come to us, I'm very sure of that. Our rivalry can't be melted with a single friendly gesture. Many innocent Vesians will suffer if we ever soften our stance against your state."
Some Vandals laughed at that. "What a hypocritical way of looking at the wars. You're like the butcher asking the pig why it wants to attack you. The entire wars are your fault! Bleating about suffering Vesians, what about our citizens?! I'm glad our mech regiment whalloped the Detemen System. You warmongers needed a reminder that the suffering can go both ways!"
"Calm down, everyone!" Nolsen barked in an authoritative tone. That shut down the belligerent tones. "I'm sorry, Calabast, but we aren't in a mood to discuss high politics with you. We're simple grunts, you see."
"As you say." The woman shook her head as if she found his response to be disappointing. "Despite our disagreements, we are very much alike. Don't forget our brotherhood in the coming days. Whatever we may think of each other, the rest of the galaxy is a very dangerous place."
With that, Calabast and her escorts slid from their chairs while bringing their drinks elsewhere. Once they walked out of sight, every Vandal sighed in relief.
Tiss rubbed her head. "That's weird. Why did that Vesian spook decide to approach us out of the blue?"
"Their motives are unfathomable." Nolsen said. "Don't read too much into their actions. That's exactly what they want. Just remember that nobody can do anything to us while we are out in public on Harkensen I."
Someone else agreed with the security officer. "Aren't we supposed to enjoy a holiday? They just tried to screw with our heads. I say don't let them win! Let's end our shore leave on a good note!"
Everyone tried to put the strange encounter on the backburner, but not everyone succeeded. When Nolsen contacted some other Vandal groups, they all mentioned an encounter with suspicious Vesian individuals. Their group was not the only one visited by spooks!
"How many Vesians are assigned to stare at us?" Ves asked with dismay in his voice.
No one knew the answer, but evidently their numbers was much higher than everyone had thought. It had to be mentioned that hundreds of groups split up in Harkensen I and Harkensen III. Any Vesian intelligence operation needed to invest in a lot of manpower to stare at them all, let alone approach them in person for some inscrutable reason.
Ves didn't have a good feeling about this. "You know, I think we should be more careful from now on. Let's not visit anywhere remote or isolated."
"I've always taken that into account in our planning." Nolsen said. "But I can see why we need to be more prudent. Even if this is exactly what the Vesians want, we shouldn't play with fire."
The group resolved to remain in highly trafficked places on Harkensen I from now on. Visiting an exobeast safari or renting a boat to sail out into the sea had to be crossed off their list.
"The night is stretching on. Let's go back to the hotel."
The group left the bar and took an aircar to the hotel on Harkensen I which the Vandals had rented out. Though the place was less secure than the temporary compound on Harkensen III, it saved them an unnecessary commute between planets. There were also a number of Vandal security officers on patrol, which reassured the Vandals who slept overnight.
"Good night, Ves!" Tiss waved as everyone returned to their suites.
As Ves entered his hotel room, he walked over to the wide open windows and stared out into the city they were in at night. Lots of lights flashed as many tourists still sought out entertainment in the night. Beyond, boats and ships sailed across the waters in an endless merry of partying.
It was easy to forget that a war was taking place. The Reinald Republic sat at the other side of the Vesia Kingdom, so any repercussions of the war only affected them indirectly.
Having spent some time in this star system, Ves envied the Reinald Republic. Despite being small enough for the Vesians to devour in a single bite, the Frozen Leaf Alliance was like a timely umbrella against the rain. Under the auspices of this ironclad defensive alliance, the Reinald Republic possessed much more security than it ought to. This was the blessing they enjoyed from their geopolitical situation.
Unlike the Reinald Republic, the Bright Republic doesn't have any good neighbors to ally with. One of their tragedies was that the Bright Republic was surrounded by belligerents or nutbags.
To their galactic east sat the Vesia Kingdom. It went without saying that their conflict was irreconcilable. Over three-hundred years of wars interspersed with temporary peace periods created an enormous amount of enmity between the two rivalling states.
To the galactic west of the Bright Republic sat the Ylvain Protectorate. The Bright Republic attempted to draw them into an alliance many times, but the Ylvainans repulsed every overture with the same isolationist stance.
The Protectorate didn't get along well with everyone because every Ylvainan was a religious fanatic. To a state like the Bright Republic whose only religion was rationality, such fervor clashed directly against their values.
Though the Brighters and the Ylvainans were like ice and fire to each other, neither side wanted to go to war against each other. The Bright Republic already had their hands full with the Vesians, and they weren't snobby enough to think they needed to impose their values on the Ylvainans.
The Protectorate on the other hand had their own concerns. To their galactic south existed a state called the Star Faith Collective. The Collective was made up of religious fanatics who believed in an entirely different faith.
Compared to the Protectorate dislike to faithless dogs like Brighters, their animosity against the Collective was much more extreme. Discussions on religious dogma was a surefire way to spark a fight between citizens of both states.
Strangely enough, the Ylvain Protectorate and the Star Faith Collective never came to blows for some reason. Unlike the many wars between the Vesians and the Brighters, the two religious states largely kept their conflict contained.
"In any case, the Ylvain Protectorate can't help us at all."
To the galactic north of the Bright Republic sat a state called the Coman Federation. If there was one thing that defined a Coman, it was their fervor for transhumanism. Their deviance on this matter bordered on heresy, though their beliefs wasn't strictly illegal in the eyes of the CFA and MTA.
Nevertheless, they attracted quite a lot of dirty looks. The Coman pursuit for transhumanism led them to blend their physical appearances with aliens or amputate their limbs and replace them with cybernetic equivalents. Their preoccupation with their fetishes practically repelled the entire Komodo Star Sector.
Detesting the outside galaxy became ingrained in every Coman. Every baseline human was a primitive in their eyes. Though they were known to field a strong mech military, they spent most of their efforts on holding back their regional rivals and exploring the frontier for more alien marvels. Comans were known to be the best treasure hunters in the Komodo Star Sector.
"It's too bad our differences can't make us into allies."
Brighter diplomats attempted to draw the Comans into an alliance many times, yet their conceit against baseline humans prevented them from taking their neighbors seriously. If not for being surrounded by rival states, their elitist attitude would have pushed them into a war against the Bright Republic.
As what lay at the galactic south of the Bright Republic, the Independent State of Pillis was an oddball of its own. Smaller than the Bright Republic, the Pillis was a state as crazy as the Coman Federation.
The best way to put it was that they were radical independents. They violently rejected any notions of alliances and other entanglements. If not for the overwhelming strength of the CFA and MTA, they would have rejected their rules as well. As it was, the Pillisers barely tolerated the Big Two, believing it was only a matter of time before those hegemonic organizations fell.
"Every Pilliser is a doomsday fanatic."
For some reason, the Pillisers believed that the human race had reached their peak in the galaxy. Their gains at the end of the Age of Conquest represented the apex of their achievements. Every Age that followed marked the decline and end of the human race in the epoch of galactic history.
Their beliefs essentially turned them into giant jerks whenever they interacted with foreigners. The relationship between the Bright Republic and the Independent State of Pillis was very poor as a result.
In truth, the Bright Republic could have conquered Pillis if they really wanted to. As long as the Vesians were held in check, the military strength of Pillis wasn't enough to hold back the Mech Corps.
"Pillis has a lot of big brothers though."
The Independent State was only a branch of a larger organization that spanned many star sectors in the galactic rim. Their doomsday predictions held them all together, and they were known to transfer their strength between star sectors whenever their branches faced a pinch.
The only reason why Pillis hadn't borrowed the strength of their big brothers was because the other enemies of the doomsday cultists wouldn't stand by.
North, south, east and west, the Bright Republic was surrounded by hostiles and crazies. This was because most entities that initially settled in the Komodo Star Sector consisted of exiles. In fact, the Bright Republic counted among the crazies as well in some people's eyes!


After obtaining the Mech Designer System, Ves aims to create the greatest mechs in the galaxy!

In the far future, the galactic human civilization has entered the Age of Mechs. The countless lesser powers of humanity have come to adopt mechs as their main weapons of war!
