Medieval theatre

It was so painful that I found it hilarious! There I was trying to re-edit my previous work and I'm not even talking about the heaps of typos that seemed to appear out of thin air for me, from the writing style to my delivery, all was just out of place.
I suddenly got emotional at one point when I realized that there were people still willing to read the book even when I as the author thought it was that bad. You guys are really making a grown man cry with how big your hearts are.
Either that or you are really tolerant to high-level bullshit, in which case I say, Jolly good old chap, you're a good un.
I will be honest and say that my writing style is not delivering my story exactly how I pictured it to be. And I discovered a lot of plot holes in the earlier chapters from facts to character behaviors and such.
I told one of my friends that I felt I started the book too early... - (I planned to write this book for over two years before I uploaded the first few chapters. It was mostly procrastination but still, quite diligent of me, ehn? But apparently, even two years is too small when you are planning a project as big as I am doing) - .... I said I found a lot of words and actions done by characters in my earlier chapters that I felt didn't match with the persona I have of them in my head.
When I told him that though he told me I was overthinking it. He told me that if I had never started writing, I wouldn't have solidified the characters to the point where I would feel some words or actions were off-character in the first place.
 I agreed with him because what he said made a lot of sense. But then my guilty conscience for writing shit and knowing that I could have done better still gnawed at my insides.
There were definitely a lot of things I could have done better and as I edited (even re-wrote a lot of parts because I felt they were different kinds of levels of wrong) and corrected the errors in the earlier chapters, I found more and more of these things which kept breaking my heart, really.
Although I would have to admit that my writing style has shown slight improvement towards the latest chapters as I increased my vigilance and started employing editing apps and such (None of my friends seem to be good editors apparently, useless cowards….. ) I still think about the fact that a year from now, I would re-visit these chapters and probably still bang my head on a wall in frustrations on how bad they will look to me.
I guess it is the curse that comes with gradual improvement. Like the way your brain keeps reminding you about that one thing you did when you were 12? You know, that thing? ... That you always try to forget? ... You're thinking about it now, aren't you? That SUPER embarrassing stuff that leaves you blushing in shame?......

And for what I have been doing this past month, I know you didn't ask but I'm feeling very chatty. I have been reading the light novel, Overgeared.
The book is very nice, although the MC was a retard at the beginning, seeing him getting smarter and OP, as the book developed, was really satisfying. The adventure themes and all are really good. One of my role model novels when it comes to VR-gaming.
But if there's one thing I really loved about the novel though, then it is its comedy. I am a big-time comedy fanatic and most of my favorite adventure novels have heavy comedy themes.
I for one like how the author censored the cursing to make it more family-friendly. ( unlike a certain author – cough! Cough!). when you're seeing a character getting angry and instead of cursing by saying something like….
"This fucking bastard!"
You instead see something like…..
"This XX person!"
I don't know, it just does something to me. The delivery is always amazing and it leaves me chuckling every time.
I would then imagine a character like my MC who tends to curse every time he gets slightly excited. I know it is not a very nice trait but it is a copy of the original, me. I have bad control over my curses and it flows out of my mouth like a bottle of cola after it has been shaken vigorously while having a whole pack of mentos stuffed in.
I have been trying to curb it recently by saying stuff like….
"This XX is a XX person! Really an X!"
And stuff like that. I don't know if it will eventually work though but I will be reflecting on the progress in my MC. If you ever read a fight scene with the MC where he doesn't curse even once, just know that it was a mission accomplished.

It belongs to the Elizabethan period or 16th century which is a period of creative revival in the history of English literature. In the English literature of the renaissance, drama is its chief glory. Drama therefore is the most important subject for the study at this time, it is the most difficult because the diversity of the plays make classification difficult while the lack of sufficient dates makes it almost difficult to obtain a clear outline of the evolution of the theatrical world. During the middle English period theatre was confined with the church. The interludes were a form of drama which finally paved the way for the Elizabethan plays by the University Wits.
The Pre Shakespearean -Dramatist were known as the university wits owing to their association with the university of Cambridge and oxford. They were romantic in their approach and represented the true spirit of renaissance.
The constellations of university wits are John Lyly, George Peele, Robert Greene, Thomas Lodge, Thomas Nash, Thomas Kyd, Christopher Marlowe who revolutionized English drama and brought it to a point where Shakespeare began to experiment upon it. There was a fondness of heroic themes like lives of great figures like Tamburlaine. Heroic themes needed heroic treatment: splendid description, handling violent incidents and speeches .
 Let us now see the contribution of university wits with reference to three dramatists: -
 John Lyly(1554 -1606), the leader of the university wits was Lyly, his education was classical and he selected classical themes and stories for his plays. His famous plays are a most excellent comedy of Alexander and Campaspe and Diogenes (1584), Sapho and Phao (1584), Gallathea (1588). The Man in the Moon (1588), Midas (1589), Mother Bombie (1590), Love's metamorphosis (1590) and the Women in the Moon (1597).
 He addresses queen Elizabeth where she is strong to thrust back his love for fair Campaspe in order to give himself to his empire. She is Sapho, enamored for a while of Phao the handsome ferryman then mistress of herself and conquering Venus who had been envious of her beauty. She is Cynthia, loved to despair by Endymion who overpowered with sleep by the magic art of Tellus, is by Cynthia's kiss, brought back to life and respectful adoration. She is the queen of lesbos against whom fail all attempts of Midas whose fatal touch transforms everything into gold.  To these court comedies is Gallathea with a content of love, loves metamorphosis a lively derision of women. Women in the moon and Mother Bombie is a comedy with Italian plot. Except Women in the Moon is written in a kind of prose called euphuistic, often graceful beneath their artifice.
As Lyly wrote for private theatres so his plays differ from other playwrights of this group and being a court dramatist he added to the drama, charm, delicacy, bombastic pieces wrote for performances in public theatres and gave shape to romantic comedy and created atmosphere with humour and romantic fancy which is more idealistic than Greene and Peele and his high poetical blank verse could express lighter sentiments which lacked in Marlowe. There is an introduction of songs symbolical of the movement or mood of a particular comedy owes its popularity.    
 Thomas Kyd (1558 -1594), is one of the most important university wits and the Spanish tragedy occupies an important place in the development of English tragedy. It is a Senecan play adopted to popular requirement. Pompey the great his 'faire corneliaes tragedy' (1595), first part of Jeronimo published in 1605 a fore piece to the Spanish tragedy attributed to Kyd, the tragedy of Soliman and Perseda (printed in 1599).
The Spanish tragedy is a landmark in English Tragedy because it is a drama of vengeance, where the author has skillfully woven passion, pathos, fear, madness, suicide and the play are well managed where the murders are thrillingly committed. Albert writes commenting on Spanish tragedy that "There is a largeness of tragical conception about the play that resembles the work of Marlowe; and there are touches of style that dimly foreshadow the great tragical lines of Shakespeare." Kyd contributed a new type of tragic hero to the stage. There is a largeness of in the character of Hieronimo, Kyd presented hesitating type seen most magnificently in Hamlet. Cornelia (1593) another translated version of work of the French Senecan Garnier.
Thus, Kyd succeeded in producing dialogues that are forceful and capable. Kyd brought revenge theme to the stage. His subtlety of characterization appealed to his generation. The main tragedy of his time had been afflicted princess or grandiloquent supermen. Thus, he discovered the formula for melodrama and his success was great and lasting.
Christopher Marlowe (1564 -1593), the son of a Canterbury shoemaker and a clergyman's daughter born in 1564 February was a Cambridge man and in 1587 was awarded the MA degree and had a scholarly career at the university. He acquired vast knowledge and stormed into popularity with the publication of his first play Tamburlaine (1587-88). His other plays like Dr. Faustus (published in 1587), the Jew of Malta (1592), Edward II (1593) were all immensely popular. Marlowe was called a 'wild genius'. John Bakeless recognizes him as 'the most reckless spirit in all that turbulent age'.
Marlowe raised the subject matter of drama to a high level. His main themes are insatiable spirit of adventure, passions of love and beauty, greatness and littleness of human life. Tamburlaine is a world conqueror, Faustus is in pursuit of universal knowledge, Edward II mingles nobility and worthlessness, heights and depths of human nature. Marlowe imparted individuality where Tamburlaine, king though at the end of drama is born a peasant, the Jew is but a Mediterranean money lender Faustus is an ordinary German doctor and alchemist. There is even tragic conflict in his drama between good and evil forces in Dr Faustus and in Edward II the conflict is represented through external forces. There is inevitability, pity terror.  We feel pity for damned Faustus who underwent intolerable pain due to one fatal flaw of desiring limitless power and terror in the murder scene of Edward II. Tamburlaine who dies miserably, Faustus who is condemned to eternal damnation gives us an ethical significance.
Marlowe had of course the defects of his age. There was no unity in his plot construction. The comic scenes in Dr Faustus are poor as compared to the tragic scenes. Tamburlaine has no construction; demonic tartar marches through the seas of blood from conquest and succumbs to death. Jew of Malta begins greatly but ended with orgy of blood and horror. Edward II has situation crisis and he ignored minor figure.
Commenting on the contribution of the university wits to the British drama Nicoll writes: - 'The classicist had form but no fire the popular dramatist had interest but little sense of form. Drama, that is to say, was struggling between a well-informed chill and a structureless enthusiasm. The great merit of the university wits was that that they came with their passion and poetry, and their academical training, to unite these two forces, and thus to give Shakespeare a pliable and fitting medium for the expression of his genius.'

A slight smile was printed on her face which, together with her hourglass figure, made most of the cafe's customers turn around. Males were attracted to her beauty while girls were jealous of her beauty.
As for clothing, she was wearing a cold shoulder top of a not too 'heavy' black, together, she had a long white skirt with a bright purple belt at the waist.
Touka who had gone to serve other customers, hearing a person enter, turned around and greeted, but as soon as she saw who was at the door, her gaze became rigid.
The girl's eyebrows got tangled at the sight of that woman on the threshold of the door.
But since there are other customers and she doesn't want to cause any problems, Touka still welcomed her even though her expression was severe.
"Welcome"
Touka accompanied the girl to a table not far from Ken who in the meantime remained with his mouth open.
He would never have imagined seeing that figure in this place, especially not when he entered.
Rize Kamishiro, the same person he was thinking about a short time ago, as soon as he left the house.
It must be a game of fate, Ken told himself.
It has to be, the day before, the first day he arrived in this world, he had to face a ghoul, the next day he probably met the character he wanted to meet more than everyone else.
Ken has removed his gaze from Rize. He does not want to arouse suspicion, not at this moment which is without transformation. Ken knows very well that ghouls are perceptive and even a single glance could cause them to focus on themselves.
"The usual, thank you," she said with a smile in the direction of Touka who stayed by Rize's table waiting for the order.
Touka, without thinking twice, turned to give the manager the order of Rize and in less than a few minutes she delivered it to her, but without the elegance with which she delivered it to Ken's table.
Rize doesn't seem to have noticed, she clearly knows why she's so nervous, and even if she doesn't like to say it, it's her fault. *giggle*
The fact that she moved from the 11th to the 20th wards caused problems. Her "hunger" caused her to hunt far more people than those who usually died in this district. This immediately led the Doves to investigate.
"Thanks"
Then, opening the bag she had with her, she pulled out a book.
Ken took a look at the cover of the book out of pure curiosity, The Flowers of Evil by Sen Takatsuki.
Immediately after, however, he returned his gaze to the street outside while he continued to drink his coffee, admiring the passers-by who walked with a smile on their face, not caring of the world.
Unconsciously, a smile also appeared on his face.
"Sorry, can I sit here?"
Ken was 'awakened' by a voice too familiar to him, so turning his gaze with a forced smile he looked at the seated figure on the other side of the table.
Why the heck she is here. Ken's heart started beating wildly. Ken started screaming inside his mind but showing a smile on the surface.
He has no idea why Rize is here; he hasn't done anything that has caused her attention unless ...
Don't tell me my only glance in her direction has been seen. Ken started sweating cold at the very thought of this.
"Sure," Ken replied to Rize's question, then looking straight into Rize's eyes, he continued, "although I wonder how a young lady like you wants to sit in this place."
Seeing that Rize didn't immediately respond Ken added, "I'm just curious, if you don't want to tell me about it you don't have to."
Ken has made an effort to ask this question because if Rize realizes that something is wrong with this question, he has practically marked a death sentence for himself, not as if he hadn't already marked it.
Getting Rize interested in oneself can be considered a death sentence in itself if you don't possess some strength and, unless you don't go to places where Rize doesn't go, the chance of being eaten alive is quite high.
Fortunately, Ken's fear didn't happen this time.
"Nothing, I just saw you looked at my book" Rize replied with a natural smile closing her eyes.
"Do you read Sen Takatsuki's books too?" Rize asked Ken.
Ken revealed a surprised expression, immediately nodded.
Ken blatantly lied about this question, but that doesn't mean he doesn't remember what Kaneki and Rize talked about when their eyes fell on their respective books.
"Even though I like Sen Takatsuki and her 'dark' style, I must admit that my favourite is Franz Kafka, his themes that speak of loneliness, isolation, alienation are something that in my opinion fully reflect this society."
Rize seems to have been surprised by this answer. She made a small exclamation by putting a hand in front of her mouth.
"I didn't expect you to read these kinds of novels!" Rize exclaimed looking at Ken with a surprised expression.
Ken stared at Rize for a few seconds and then shrugged, "I don't look like it, but I'm a person who loves these themes."
"After all this society, in my opinion, it is possible to see it fully in its novels, that highly disturbing atmosphere with haunting elements, I find it simply magnificent, not to mention his characters, they seem as if they are victims of existence" Ken continued to tell in the direction of Rize who in the meantime looked at Ken talking with a smile.
"You said earlier, like this society, what do you mean?" Rize asked.
What Ken said intrigued her a lot, and this was the moment when she began to take an interest in Ken's person.
Ken, not knowing about this, replied, lowering his eyes slightly, "I think this society is identical to Kafka's works. If I can make a comparison, I would say that the city of Tokyo is like an empty canvas where ghouls and humans are the characters controlled by fate, each of them is chased by some anguish that the other race does not understand, this has created a continuous cycle of vicissitudes. "
Ken's words are echoing inside Rize's mind. Not only within Rize, within the mind of Touka, of the manager Yoshimura, Enji Koma, Kaya Irimi.
Every single ghoul who heard these words froze slightly only to resume their activities soon after.
But before doing this, they can do nothing but look for a second at that customer who before that moment was like everyone else in their eyes.
Rize had also looked more carefully at Ken, if before she was just a kind of attention, now she wants to know more about the person in front of her.
The desire to devour him has subsided slightly, while now, in its place, there was a desire to learn everything Ken knows and what he thinks.
Subconsciously the two talked about their literary tastes since they were similar.
The more time passed, the more Ken's initial anxiety faded. If at the beginning what Ken said was only to satisfy Rize and her question, after a while, he started to free himself from the chains he had imposed on himself and started to speak openly.
In this way, time passed quickly without the two noticing it. The sun in the distance has tinted the sky an intense orange, a symbol of the sunset.
Ken looking out the window, looked at that scene without words, he never expected to talk to the person he himself considered dangerous for so long.
But at the same time, he must admit that it is not bad at all; indeed, this discussion was pleasant.
"I better go," Ken said to Rize after getting up.
Just then Rize seems to have come up with something, and then, in a hasty tone, she stopped Ken who had just got up.
"Wait for a second, you haven't told me your name yet," Rize asked.
"Ken Law, while you miss?" Ken replied while asking Rize the same question. Even if he knows the name of the girl in front of him that doesn't mean Rize knows he knows her.
"Rize, Rize Kamishiro, it was a nice day, I haven't felt like this in a long time, I have to thank you," Rize said with a smile.
Ken seems to have gotten a little embarrassed. He immediately shook his right hand, indicating that there was no problem and then turned around and left but not before paying.
Seeing Ken leaving, Rize continued to watch him.
"What an interesting person ..." Rize muttered.
