An Xiaxia froze, the hand holding a pen pausing in mid-air.
"What are you doing here?" she cried out in a low voice.
Sheng Yize enunciated each word. "To get my dear author's autograph."
"…" Gosh, you might as well have come here to slash my throat, Mr. Idol!
However, he had bought her books and she couldn't just chase him away. An Xiaxia had no choice but to sign the books for him — of course, she didn't write what he asked for, and only signed her name.
When she had finally signed the whole stack of books, the driver arrived, puffing, with another stack over his shoulder. "Young Master, as instructed, I've bought all the books here today!"
An Xiaxia was dumbfounded.
Shit! There were at least a few thousand books here and he had bought them all! It would take her forever to sign them all!
"Sheng Yize, knock it off…" An Xiaxia said in resignation.
Sheng Yize sneered. "No, I won't."
Behind him, the girls were discussing among themselves.
"Wow, he's so handsome!"
"Exactly… He's so dashing! And his long legs! Quickly, take a picture!"
"Aww! I'm so into it! I like the tsundere quality in a top!"
An Xiaxia felt like crying, but no tears would come. "At least let me sign the books for the rest of the readers. They've come all this way."
Sheng Yize turned around and said indifferently, "I'm gonna need to borrow your dear author!"
Taking An Xiaxia's hand, he pulled her to her feet, then with a little maneuvering, he threw her over his shoulder.
The audience erupted and there was a "wow" in unison.
"That's so heroic! That's like the ultimate boyfriend move!"
"Oh my poor heart… I've only ever been into slash fiction, but I think I'm being converted!"
"That was so romantic! I'm lovin' it!"
"…"
Yin Qinghan spun the pen in his hand and couldn't hide the smile on his face.
Compared with Sheng Yize's murderous face, he was looking forward even more to the bunny's fate after messing with the big bad wolf.

Sheng Yize tossed An Xiaxia into his car and she cried out in grievance, "What are you doing?"
"Taking you back home."
"I'm not going back with you! You big liar!" An Xiaxia shrieked and was going to jump out of the car.
Sheng Yize looked a little pale as he snorted, "Woman, hasn't it been long enough?"
Frightened by his intimidating manner, An Xiaxia pursed her lips and was going to cry.
It had been his fault all along. Instead of apologizing to her, he was threatening her!
"You jerk! You big, big jerk! I'm getting a divorce!" Vexed, An Xiaxia said those words without thinking.
Sheng Yize smiled coldly. "You can't even find your marriage certificate. How are you going to get divorced?"
"How do you know I lost my marriage certificate…" An Xiaxia was shocked. She realized soon enough and was infuriated. "Sheng Yize! You took it! Give it back!"
"Why should I?" Despite his cocky tone, Sheng Yize was pressing a hand to his stomach.
He had been having stomach trouble lately and hadn't brought his medicine with him after going after An Xiaxia in such a hurry. He had been in pain for the past few days.
"Bah!" An Xiaxia spat at him. He let out a muffled groan, which frightened An Xiaxia. "What's wrong?"
"I don't feel so well…" Sheng Yize said weakly.
An Xiaxia's eyes darted around. "You're lying to me again, aren't you? Do you think I'll go home with you this way? Hmph! You wish!"
She jumped out of the car and slammed the door behind her.
Back inside the car, Sheng Yize's forehead was covered in cold sweat. His vision then went dark and he slumped to one side… 


As an anti-fan of the idol group, Starry Night, An Xiaxia is happy to spend her time online slandering lead singer Sheng Yize. 

But things take an unexpected turn when An Xiaxia starts high school - the Starry Night trio somehow becomes her classmates, and even end up moving into her house. 

Also, the nation’s idol Sheng Yize seems particularly interested in An Xiaxia for some reason...

Sheng Yize: Xiaxia, if I and a chicken wing fall into the water together, which one will you save?

An Xiaxia: Hm… I can't swim, so obviously you're going to save yourself and get my chicken wing out!

Sheng Yize: I thought I was the nation’s idol???

Adria made it to the city limits quickly. Even on her two legs she was finding she was moving swifter then she used to. She was learning to love these new quirks that she was picking up from finally getting to meet her animals. She was still so incredibly happy that she was not an unshifter. After being raised to think that made her the lowest of the low it meant the world to her to know she was in fact really special.  

Anyway, now that she was back at the city limits she knew that she needed to find a place with the most businesses if she wanted a chance of finding a decent job. Not that she really knew what was classified as a "decent" job. She knew she wasn't going to be anyone's lackey though, not like back at the old pack. The buildings that backed up to the woods did not look that great in the light of the day. A lot of them were run down and several had boarded up windows and appeared abandoned. She could see some people milling about the alley ways. A few of them seemed very unsavory and sketchy. Adria definitely didn't trust this part of the city as a safe place to find work. 

She figured her best bet would be to head further into the center of the city and see what might be there. She hoped there would be more businesses and less abandoned buildings there. She was not sure what the best course of direction would be. She was still behind the tree line and fairly well hidden. Using her keen sense of smell she tried to pinpoint the best direction to head. Where she was the people smelled stronger, like they hadn't bathed in a long while.  She assumed that meant that they may not have access to clean water in order to do so. In the old pack the unshifters and her rarely got to bathe and when they did it was usually in very murky water. The clean spring water was reserved for the members of the pack that "deserved" it. Adria wondered if it was the same here. If the people in this part of the city were the "Skinners" of the city. 

Adria closed her eyes and focused on blocking out the scents from the people closest to her location. She tried to hone in on scents that were further away, ones that smelled cleaner. Once she had locked onto that scent trail she set off in that direction. She kept her eyes forward and kept up a brisk pace through the alleyways and shadowed backstreets. She did not notice that she had started to attract some attention from the people that were in the alleys already. Her animals did though. They could sense the three men that were trying to sneak up on Adria as she quickly made her way to the center of town. Just as they were about to try to surround her, her wolf shouted a warning in her head.

'Adria! Look out!'

Acting on pure instinct Adria whirled around and faced the three men head on. She could see in their eyes that they had unscrupulous intentions towards her. She could take a guess at what that was. However, she knew she could easily overpower them now. If they had been shifters and she had actually been a shifter, like back in Gregory's pack when she had been jumped before she wouldn't have stood a snowball's chance in hell. As it was though she knew she had inhuman strength now. 

"Well looky here boys," one of them crowed, Adria assumed he was the leader of the group, "We haven't seen you around here before. Where did you come from little girl?"

"Excuse me?" Adria said.

"I asked where you came from," he repeated smirking as he continued to move towards Adria. She knew he was trying to back her into a corner thinking he would get her trapped there.

"I am not sure why you need to know that information," she replied, "I am just trying to get into the center of this city. If you would be so kind as to excuse me, I'll be on my way."

"Oh i don't think so," one of the other goons said with a laugh, "There is a toll for coming through our alleyway, didn't you know that?"

"A toll?"

"Yeah...you need to pay up."

"But...I don't have any money. I am on my way to get a job in fact. Once I do I will be sure to pay the toll then."

"Oh that won't work. We know that once you leave you won't come back here again. You will just have to pay another way. Hmmm what to do, what to do," the leader said tapping his chin with his finger pretending to think, "I've got it! You'll just have to pay with what you do have. That dress of yours isn't hiding too much from our eyes girly and I think we would like to see that off of you. That sounds like fair payment, right boys?"

"Yeah!" they chorused closing in on her their eyes gleaming dangerously. 

"Please don't try this," Adria made one last attempt to reason with them.

It was obvious that they were not going to back off though as her back hit the brick wall behind her and the three men continued to advance on her crowding her personal space. In her mind she felt her connection with her animals strengthen as they told her in the mental link to just let them take over. As soon as the first male reached for her it was almost as if she had no control over her body any longer. 

She could feel herself being controlled by her animals as they used her body to make quick work of the three would be rapists. With her left hand she grabbed the leaders arm and snapped it back behind him with a loud crack. It was obvious that his shoulder was broken. He fell to the ground with an agonizing wail of pain. The other two screamed an obscenity at her and closed in on her stepping over their friend to get to her. Her right leg swung up and connected quickly and forcefully with goon number 1's testicles. He screamed extremely high pitched and fell to the ground joining the first guy. She squared off and faced the last goon. He looked at her and then to his two friends on the ground.

"Yo lady you're nuts. I'm out of here."

He took off running leaving his friends on the ground in pain. Adria looked at the two men she had leveled and said, "I would suggest a new business plan for yourselves."

With that she stepped over them and continued on her way. She was extremely shaken up but knew enough not to show it until she was out of sight. She kept walking for as long as she could keeping the anxiety at bay. When she couldn't hold it back anymore she made it to the corner of a building and darted around it. Once there she braced herself against the concrete wall of the building and slid down so that she was sitting on the ground. She tucked her legs up underneath her and buried her head in her hands. She could feel her heart racing and her breath came in gasps as she tried to calm herself down. 

The panther and wolf were thankfully quiet inside her head besides the occasional whine or purr as they tried to calm her down from inside her mind. They knew that what she had almost gone through was a lot to process and could have ended much differently had they not been here. It was a big thing for her to try to wrap her mind around and accept. As well as the fact that they had basically taken over her motor functions. Yes, it was to protect her and keep her safe but that had to be a strange feeling to have. To know that someone else was in control of you and you couldn't stop it. 

Adria was not sure how long she sat there but it must have been for several minutes. She only looked up from her hands because she felt someone tap her on the shoulder. She jumped as she looked up into the face of a gentleman that appeared to be around 45 or so. He wore a kind expression on his face and had a cap on his graying hair. His eyes were a gentle blue that seemed very concerned about her, however after her recent experience she was very distrustful and she shied away immediately. 

"Hey! It's ok!" he exclaimed and held his hands up and stepped back from her so he wasn't as close, "I just wanted to make sure you were ok. You were sitting here outside my bookstore for so long I wasn't sure if you needed help?"

"Help?" she said with a soft scoff, "I came to the city today to hope to find work, I was accosted on my way here by three men who were going to try to...." she broke off unable to say the word out loud. She also couldn't tell this gentleman everything else she was dealing with mentally because he would not understand a shifter mindset as he was clearly human. She could smell that. 

"Where are these men now?" he asked standing up to his full height, which from where Adria was sitting was pretty considerable. He looked around like he was expecting the men to pop out of hiding from behind a tree or bush. His facial expression had also changed from kindly to menacing very quickly as he looked around for the offending men. 

"Oh I took care of them, they won't be bothering anyone for a long time."

The man looked at her unconvinced. She knew it was because she did not look strong enough to have taken care of three full grown men but she was not about to explain how or why she could.  Thankfully he didn't question her on her story but instead crouched back down so he wasn't towering over her, "Did you say that you needed a job?"

"Yes," Adria said meeting his eyes, "I came here hoping to find one. I don't have much experience though so I don't even know where or how to start looking."

"Well it just so happens I was going to place a wanted ad for help around my shop today. It doesn't pay much, barely more than minimum wage but it is a start. Why don't you come into my shop and tell me a little more about yourself and see if this is a job you think you could handle?"

Adria was still slightly suspicious but she was also extremely thankful for his kindness. She agreed and stood up to follow the gentleman into the building that she had been sitting against. For the first time she looked around and noticed she was in the center of the city. There was a small park across the street. As she suspected the roads were much cleaner here and the people passing by were definitely cleaner. There were cars here too that were flying by on the roads. Adria had never driven one as back in the pack there was no need for it. She may have to learn yet another skill she thought to herself as she followed the man inside his store. 

He pushed the solid wooden door open and a tiny brass bell jingled over the door as it opened fully. Stepping inside Adria inhaled deeply. It smelled fantastic in here. Looking around she saw aisle after aisle of books. She could read some of the closest titles to her and saw that they were of all varieties. Some history, some fiction, some non fiction and so on. She gasped in joy.

"Do you like to read?" the man asked.

"Like to? I love books! Back where I came from there wasn't a book left that I hadn't read at least 4 times! I don't think we had anywhere close to as many as you do though!" she exclaimed in happiness bouncing on the balls of her feet.

"Well, I own this shop. My name is Barry Donovan by the way. What is yours?"

"Adria."

"Adria...?" he pressed obviously looking for a last name or at least some more information.

"Just Adria," she replied. 

"Hmm, ok. What brings you to Skydale?" he asked. He saw her confused expression and elaborated, "That is the name of this city Adria."

"Oh!" she said embarrassed, "Um, well honestly this was the first city I came to after I...left..."

She broke off. She was not sure how to tell Barry about herself without giving away information that she couldn't. Humans could not know about shifters for many reasons, but the main one was that they were highly untrusting towards that which they did not understand. Adria did not know Barry well enough to know how he would take finding out that kind of information. 

"Left huh?" Barry said. Adria could almost see the wheels turning in his head as he tried to figure out how to get more information from her. Her panther spoke her mind quietly and told her that they would need to give him something or he would never trust her enough to hire her for the job he mentioned.

Knowing that was correct she spoke again, "Yeah, um, my old home wasn't very...safe...so when I turned 18 I ran. I got as far as I could and this is where I ended up. But I left so quickly I have nothing with me. Nothing beyond this dress on my back."

"Oh you poor thing!" Barry said. "I am sure we can work something out for you. Let me tell you about this job ok?"

Barry started to go over the tasks that she would need to complete during each day. He told her that she would need to ring up the customers that came in, help unpack new shipments and get the books marked and on the shelves. She would also need to keep the place neat and dust free. He asked if she thought that would be something she would be interested in doing. Adria readily agreed but asked if he would show her how to use the cash register machine and he gladly taught her and she picked it up quickly. He asked if she could start tomorrow and she replied in the affirmative. 

When he asked if she had a safe place to stay the night she said yes. When he pressed her for where that was she refused to tell him more beyond the fact that it was safe and no one would be able to harm her there. He was satisfied with that answer and thanked her for stopping in front of his building. She smiled and shook his hand. As she stepped out into the setting sun she had a bright smile on her face that lit up her expression. She was incredibly happy to have found a job, and one that she could tell she was going to really enjoy.  

She wanted to head back to her cave quickly but knew that Barry was watching her. She could feel his eyes on her and she did not want him to follow her. So instead she decided to take a short walk in the park across the street first. Looking both ways and seeing it was clear of cars she quickly crossed the street and entered the park. The sun was going down but there was still plenty of light for her to enjoy a short walk there. Also during her walk she could figure out a safer way to make it back to the woods and her cave as well. 

She walked along the pathways that wove through the trees and stuck close to the streetlamps as they started to turn on. She used her senses to try to smell and see the best and safest route home and it didn't take her long to work one out that completely went around the alleyways and back streets of the abandoned area. Making sure she was alone she stepped behind a bush and took off her dress. Concentrating on her wolf form she allowed the shift to come. As badly as it hurt it was getting quicker to complete the shift. Once she was shifted the wolf picked up the dress and, careful to stay hidden in the shadows, made the way back to the cave. Once there the wolf uncovered the hidden deer and ate some more of the animal before recovering it and then going back up into the cave to sleep. 

Adria shifted back to sleep in her human side and knew that once the sun started coming up she would wake. She knew at least that way she would be on time for her new job. She would even have time to bathe in the pond that she had first seen her wolf's reflection in. With those thoughts in mind she closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep.

So, obvious title is obvious, but I'll still be giving some brief thoughts on how this should develop. And, yes, I'm aware of the more recent fan-fiction which uses the same setting, but his character is a Living Armor, whereas mine is set to be a wolf-type monster. I'm also gunning for a similar development to Rimuru, quickly gaining power and companions. I also would like to see a bit of romance for the MC. Yeah, I know he's going to be a canid, but we can rectify that later on in the story.

Let's get the blurb out of the way first: Human dies, either due to a criminal or some unfortunate accident. Similarly to Rimuru, he makes a couple of statements which are then interpreted and transformed into Skills. After taking his final breath, he awakes in a new body, that of a wolf pup, being licked clean by his new mother. I haven't exactly figured out what kind of wolf it should be, it could even be a Fang Wolf, but I'd prefer an original species.

So, what about Skills? Well, I have a few ideas, but there is one I'd definitely like to see above the rest. First, let's talk about your typical buffs. Things like Resistances, Agility, and Strength are all very important physical attributes, and definitely shouldn't be overlooked in terms of usefulness. Next is things that will help in the acquisition of Magic and other Skills. Analysis, Sage/Great Sage, Deconstruction, Predator, and Starving One would all greatly increase survivability. Though if you are going to use these, I wouldn't pick Starving One, it has a couple of negative effects, like never-ending hunger. I don't want to copy all of Rimuru's skills, so maybe combine Analysis & Deconstruction and then use Predator. But let's move on to my magnum opus for this fan-fiction.

Transcendent Evolutionary Growth, the main skill of the MC. Its name directly explains its affects, with three different abilities. First is Growth, which increases the speed of "leveling" by 5x. Second, Evolution gives the ability to freely evolve into a higher species at any time, so long as the requirements have been met. Thirdly, Transcendence removes any limit to growth and when combined with Evolution, guarantees the user will evolve into a stronger Variant of their chosen higher species.

Now, I'll give a few ideas on what higher species I'd like to see from Evolution. So, first is either Cerberus or Fenrir, for obvious reasons. Both of these would grant incredible physical power, as well as unique abilities. Obviously the Cerberus would have Parallel Thoughts and powerful fire magic, and Fenrir would be the opposite with Devour and ice. Next is a werewolf or lycanthrope, which would give the ability to switch between a human and wolf-like form. Naturally these suggestions shouldn't be the first species the MC will evolve into, they should be the last, or close to it.

So, I have these ideas float around my head constantly. I figured since I'm not using them, someone else could. If you read them and feel like writing about it, feel free. I'd rather focus on my own novel, so they are fair game for anybody. I'd love to read them if they are ever used.

"THERE'S SO MANY people out and about town!" Alice gasped, turning her head to follow a little boy that was holding onto a candied apple that had rushed past her.

"Yes," Wyatt beamed, his eyes pressed closed due to his smile, crinkling at the corners. "It's always rather busy in the capital of Gladiolum." 

A day after the ball, Wyatt had suggested bringing Alice around the town square to soak in the sights. He personally had to do a little shopping and thought that it would be a wonderful chance for Alice to grow more familiar with the capital. She had been living with the Ragans for nearly two weeks and yet she had barely even stepped out of the mansion's walls. It was best for young ladies to enjoy their time around town with friends. Being constantly cooped up in the study room with Charlie wasn't exactly an ideal situation in Wyatt's opinion. Of course, not that Alice had ever complained.

Strolling through the cobbled streets, Wyatt pointed out some of his personal favorite shops along the way. They passed by boutiques selling beautiful ball gowns, stores selling sparkling jewels, and even quaint little cafes that wafted out the sugary sweet scent of freshly baked pastries. However, while Alice acted as though she was very interested in those, he could tell that was all it was. An act. She simply smiled and nodded to Wyatt's words, not once asking to step into any of those stores like he had expected. Yet again she had him colored surprised.

Just the thought brought a curving smile onto his lips. The girl that his family had chanced upon was most certainly different from the rest of the girls in the capital. She stood out in such a way that there wasn't any spare place for the others to shine. She was the lone star now, a happy and proud resident of the Ragan household. While still suspicious of her origins, Wyatt couldn't help but admit to himself that he was growing fond of Alice Clemente.

"Are you not interested in any of the shops I pointed out?" He prodded. "Those are all famous names here in the capital."

"Oh!" Alice exclaimed. Wyatt watched with his practiced smile as the girl's eyes widened delightfully, eyelashes fluttering like a pair of butterfly wings under the golden sunlight. Her lips parted just a little in surprise before she quickly gathered back her wits, shaking her head politely. "They are all wonderful shops. I just… I don't have any money to buy all those things. Looking through the store window is more than enough."

For years Wyatt had worn the same smile on his face. It was his perfectly crafted mask made to shield his true emotions from the rest of the nobles. No matter what he felt inside, a smile was always the answer to dealing with those that had to be schemed against. However, every time Alice spoke or made one of her silly little expressions, he found his smiles to turn true as day.

"Let us go into that one, then." Wyatt pointed to a little bookshop down the street, a corner store with a gleaming bronze sign. "There are some things I wish to purchase."

Alice nodded. "Alright," she said.

Although her expression remained as still as possible, Wyatt still caught the slight twitch of her lips. The sparkles in her eyes practically screamed of her excitement. She couldn't fool anyone. Even the blind could tell that she was particularly eager to enter the bookshop. 

The little bell that hung above the door rang when Wyatt entered the shop. Inside, there were no other customers, simply a store clerk that had a book in hand. A pair of round spectacles rested on his crooked nose bridge, his eyes scanning the words at an immense speed before he licked his finger and flipped to the next page. At the call of the bell, the clerk looked up from his book, squinting at the door before rising to his feet. The book was placed pages-down onto the counter, a smile upon his lips.

"Master Wyatt!" The old clerk greeted enthusiastically. "I was wondering when you'll be visiting next. The books you ordered two weeks back are finally here." 

"Greetings," Wyatt replied fairly. "And thank you so much for your help with those. It's nearly impossible to find them anywhere else."

The old man waved, his cheeks reddening just a little. "It's no problem. Let me go get them for you." Shuffling towards the back of the shop, the clerk disappeared behind a dividing curtain.

"Do you come here often?" Alice asked, looking around the small bookstore with great interest. At random, she pulled out one of the books from the shelves, her fingers tracing the title of the book on the cover, feeling the indented words on the hard leather.

'History of Gladiolum. Volume III,' it read. Alice had seen a similar history book in Charlie's study room before. Making a mental note to briefly read through the contents of the book, she slotted the book back to its original position.

"Hmm, I wonder." Tapping a finger to his chin, Wyatt looked deep in thought. "I guess I do visit this store a little more than the average folk. They sell writing supplies as well as books and I run out of the former a little too often. Besides, this store is the only one in the capital that can procure rare and often out-of-print."

Walking a little further into the shop, Alice glanced through the assortment of reading materials offered. They had both fiction and non-fiction books in the store, leaning closer to non-fiction books. Most books were new copies, their covers still brightly colored while others were much older and encased in glass covers. Those books seemed old and tattered but the words were still in dark black ink, most likely having been re-written over so that it wouldn't be lost to time. 

The one that had caught Alice's attention was a purple leather-bound book that was almost as thick as a dictionary. The title of this book was written in bright, glittery gold in thick block letters. A small sign that indicated the price of the old tome was placed beside the book. Alice's eyes widened at the number of zeros, her head reeling back a little in surprise. She still wasn't sure about how the currency worked in Gladiolum but with so many zeros, the book was bound to be expensive no matter the exchange rate.

'The Theory of Magic. Volume I,' the title wrote.

"Are you interested in that one? Ooh, that's a pricey one." Wyatt's voice was right by Alice's ear, causing her to jump a little, her ears tingling from his breath. Stepping away, she held both hands to her chest, staring wide-eyed at Wyatt who looked as amused as ever.

"Just looking," she answered before firing back a question of her own. "How much is that book? I don't really know how the currency works here."

"See that symbol over there?" Wyatt gestured to the symbol behind the number as he spoke. "That's the symbol for our currency, 'fleuron'. That's the larger of the two units that we have in our country's currency. The smaller unit is known as a 'flois'. Ten flois equates to one fleuron. To give you an example of its value, five flois can buy you a piece of stale bread at the end of the day in the capital's cheapest bakery, maybe? Books, on the other hand, are usually five to ten fleurons, if it's a common title that can be easily found."

Alice gulped. Judging by the examples Wyatt provided, the currency here in Gladiolum seemed similar to the system she was used to. A single fleuron held as much value as a dollar back home and a flois would be around ten cents. Her hands were starting to feel clammy as she stared hard at the price tag of The Theory of Magic. 

"And yet this book is…" she trailed off.

"Fifteen thousand fleurons," Wyatt finished the sentence for her chirpily.

Fifteen thousand dollars.

Taking another step back, Alice no longer dared to hover near the expensive article. If anything had happened to it, she wouldn't be able to pay the store back for the damages incurred. She had never seen a book as expensive or even half as pricey. 

"Why is this book so… so…"

"Ridiculously priced?" Wyatt supplied. When Alice nodded numbly, Wyatt chuckled. "This is an ancient tome about magic. There are only five copies of this book that was ever produced. But if you're really interested in this book, there's no need for you to fork out such a hefty amount just to read it. We have a copy of it back in the mansion's library."

Flabbergasted and speechless, Alice blinked dumbly at what Wyatt had so casually revealed. Although she long knew that the Ragan mansion was a sprawling estate with many different needlessly fanciful rooms, she hadn't even thought to think that it might house precious artifacts within its walls. 

In Gladiolum, it seemed as though the gap between its people was wider than the ocean. The rich lived in heaven while the poor couldn't even afford hell.

"Why don't you take a look around the bookshop and see if there's anything that catches your eye?" Wyatt offered. "If we don't already have the book back home, I don't mind making a few extra purchases. It's the least I can do for dragging you out here with me on such a warm afternoon."

Alice's heart skipped a beat. She braved a step closer, momentarily forgetting about the book in the glass display case. Cupping her hands together as if they were in prayer, Alice beamed.

"Really? Any book?"

Wyatt's smile didn't falter. "There's no budget, if that's what you're asking."

Alice wasted no time. Her feet went scurrying across the dark wooden boards of the store, quickly scouring the bookshelves in search of any title that might help her or catch her fancy. Her fingers ran down the spines, quickly pulling out a few covers that had caught her attention, some fiction and some not. She had a feeling that most, if not all, of the non-fiction books were already available in the Ragans' library but there was no harm in bringing the books over for Wyatt to look through. These books will become her survival guide in this foreign world.

As the store clerk returned to the front counter, Wyatt slowly made his way over. However, he was still gazing in Alice's way, watching silently and bemused as the girl darted from shelf to shelf, climbing ladders and bending low in search of more. There were already over seven books in her hands and she only ever added more to the collection.

"My," the old clerk exclaimed. "I've not seen anyone so frantic for a good title since you first came to my humble store years ago. The old ladies at the bakery next block over will go mad once they hear that the young Master Wyatt is no longer single."

The white-haired man chuckled. "She's just a curious little bird my brother picked up a while back."

The old man shrugged, unconvinced, but he didn't say a word more on that topic. With a heavy thump, he placed three thick books onto the counter, the covers in the three primary colors. The titles were all written in gold, large block letters.

"This set was a little trickier to find as compared to your other requests but there you go. Though, Master Wyatt, don't mind this old man prying but are you sure you want to dabble in this subject? There's always a price to pay when you go against the laws of science."

"I can pay whatever price the world throws at me," Wyatt casually remarked. Picking up one of the books carefully with a gloved hand, he examined the old cover, grinning with satisfaction. "Besides, I'm just completing my collection. With these, the set will now be complete. There's no need to worry, sir."

"Oh well," the old clerk sighed, pursing his lips. "If you're sure, youngin. Let me wrap these up for you."

Tottering away, the elderly went to retrieve a few sheets of brown wrapping paper and some strings to bundle up Wyatt's purchases while waiting for Alice. 

Partially leaning on the counter, Wyatt continued to observe Alice. She no longer had the strength to carry the books she had picked out. Instead, she placed most of them on an empty table by one side. The stack of books was almost taller than she was and yet she continued to hunt for more, her eyes practically dripping with avarice.

'How peculiar,' Wyatt thought to himself. 'She is unaffected by fanciful dresses or glittering jewels and yet dusty old books can bring her into a craze. What an odd woman. She is most certainly a woman before her time.'

Gifted a candle that was said to be able to make wishes come true, Alice Clemente burned it that very night only to find herself in an unknown world the next morning. 

She had wished for a life of adventure away from the city and its routine. With her wish granted, she was whisked away to a world very different from the one she grew up in. 

Thrust into a new life, would Alice learn how to adapt? Or would she fall down the rabbit hole only to never surface again?

"Cevin," my twin sister called out to me and I automatically looked back to see her. I was quite surprised that the book that I was holding almost fell from my hands. 

Both my sister and I work in the library as student assistants. Our father died because of a car crash and our mother on the other hand works as a call center agent. Her salary isn't enough for the three of us that is why my sister and I became student assistants. It's the least we could do for us; for our mother.

"Ma'am told me to tell you to go to the room at the back of the library. She wants you to look for the book titled 'The Last True Cowboy' by Kathleen Eagle," she added and I just nodded at her as my answer. My sister got some books and she went to her desk to fix the cards of the books. I walked swiftly towards the room to find the book I was asked to look for. 

I arrived at the room and turned on the switch of the room but the bulbs didn't light up. I turned on the flashlight of my phone and one by one, I looked at the shelves to see the book ma'am wanted me to get for her.

I saw different kinds of books on the shelves, with different genres made in different timelines. Almost all of the books here are books that aren't frequently used or borrowed. Old books, to be more specific. Fiction, non-fiction, old news articles, et cetera. Most of them are all kept here but the problem is, the books aren't all organized which makes looking for specific books difficult to see.

I also have the interest in reading books. I don't find watching television very interesting because it doesn't get me to use my imagination very well. In every book that I read, I like it when I get to imagine the worlds or the situations being described by the author through his or her character's senses. In this way, I get to make my mind active other than doing school works.

My index finger stopped when I saw the book I was supposed to look for. I pulled the book from the shelf but was a little bit startled when a black book beside it fell on the floor. It was opened when it landed and to my curiosity, I pointed at my phone to see what book it was. 

"Weird," I commented when I saw nothing written, drawn, or printed on its pages. I knelt down to further examine the book but when I came across its book cover, it even had no title. I got lazy returning it on the shelf so I just left the book on the floor. 

I went outside the room and went straight to my sister, Terra, at the main desk and sat beside her.

“Only those with great intentions can see this book and those chosen by the book will make its desired story… 
but you will never return.”

Anything can be bound. Anything can be sealed. Anything can be restricted. Only time will tell how long these will last. A rewrite from my original Book 1 of the Gamer Series.

This is also on Fanfiction.net, same name and everything. The author is the same, but with Web novel limiting the word count, so I had to make it similar to my fanfic's username.

I looked outside my bedroom window looking at night sky and trying to justify I deserve a second chance in life and all I did before was better for everyone including me. But that's sound like a complete bullshit.

I tried scratching my head where my bandage was irritating me. 'Fuck this stupid head thing.' I screamed internally.
I fall back on my bed and said out loud 'I deserve a second chance in life, I deserve a second chance in life, I deserve a second chance in life. But do I deserve to be Lily Evans?'
I looked at my 5-year-old hands and tried again to reason I have earned merit, in my life to be given a second chance and to be give a boon of magic also.
'Am I really going to live in this magic world?' I felt shiver run down my spine.
'Harry Potter world Hummm, I have read countless fan-fiction.' But in fan-fiction there was a distinct type of MC being all good or all evil? You can tell that by reading about them from the start. How they go about approaching people and how they all have the halo of all going according to the plan. Rarely they have any issue with plot holes, like how can a baby defeat the power dark lord or how Defence Against The Dark Arts potion is Curse and no one was able to break it. There are multiple plot issue that was never talked by Rowling and it was taken up by fan-fiction society to manipulate as they want.
'Wait am a Main Character?' I sat up again with frown on my face. In the last 50+ year life I have all way like as I wanted and worked hard to get what I wanted. Money, Fame, lovers..husbands.
Should I just live it like that, or should I be like Lily even is going to be (according to the books or fan fiction). Goodie two shoes, know it all, good at charms, wife of Potter and mother to Harry Potter? Was there more to Lily Potter I mean Evens than that?
'OK stop this and start thinking as you. What would you do'?
IF I was Lily Evans then first, I need to remove the status of muggle born from me. This is trick and will make smarts and money but this NEED to be done. Second, I must decide should I connect with Severus Snape or not? I need to stay neutral in this war. 
'Should I leave British Isles?' No, I need to qualify as full grow witch and then I can do what I want.
Potter and Black, I know lot about them due to books and fan-fiction, what is true and what real that is what I need to figure out.
With all these thought I went to sleep having a weird nightmare of running while getting chased by dogs with knife in their mouths and running with ravens by my side.

Next morning my mother or Lily mother came in and start fussing over me. I just rolled my eyes and did what she told while thinking about my home situation. Helen and harry Evans are good and normal (eye roll and yes, I said that about Lily's) parents. Her sister on the other had is a stuck-up, stupid girl who things she is the best and deserve the best, Petunia Evans.
Normal, easy and muggle life. This is what Lily's I mean my life is.
I don't think Lily has met Severus Snape as they just moved into this house 2 days ago and Lily in all her hyper running got hit in her head by the door and fainted.
All TADA I appear in her body all 53 year back on time. Fuck.
'OK, calm down' I murmured starting hard at my breakfast.
'ahem ahem' I turn my head to petunia who was smirking at me. Bitch.
I stared at her and said 'what'? She smiled and said 'breakfast is getting cold and you should finish it quickly'.
I turned back to my breakfast and stared at it again and slow started eating.
Harry Evans ( I need to start calling his dad, I through) and started talking to Helan and Petunia about the upcoming school semester and how we are all going have good Christmas in this big home.

Wait do I even have magic. I screamed initially and standing up straight. All Evans started at me and I just stood there thinking hard. This body has no collection of magic or anything she has ever done.
