There are certainly many out there incapable of intelligent discourse, but if you learn the right techniques, arguments, and are willing to empathize with others, then you can find plenty willing to listen. In my exp, most disagreements start at the core level of perception. Discussion of religion, government, science, etc. should start with all parties stating what they perceive the purpose of the the topic to be. "What is religion to you?" "What do you think the goal of gov. should be?" "What is science?" Once all parties are aware of the other's answers to these questions, it is much easier to reach a common ground. Anyway, glad you enjoyed the discussion, I enjoyed rereading it lol.

The whole tree climbing plan is fun and all, but is not well considered.

I understand your logic, but for me at least, it is worth reading as is and among light novels it still ranks as the best I've read even without completion. Even outside of light novels, it ranks highly. I do hope it gets finished though!
