What's the point of having a fortress if you're just gonna charge ahead and not use the walls. That's like sitting on top of a tank rather than inside it..... Just write that it's a forward camp instead of a fortress. A forward camp/outpost won't have walls, a fortress is made of walls. It makes sense to charge out if you're in an outpost, it's superbly dumb to charge out of a fortress when you're being mobbed. You can literally kill more monsters while inside the fortress than charging out of it... you've even got mages for crying out loud.
As the monster approaches the magical barrier, "Everyone, CHARGE!!" shouted general Borkin, raising his Warhammer and charging towards the monster horde.
