Also known as "Ze Tian Ji", this is one of the best novels I have read. This is a pretty old novel and used to be translated elsewhere. It is about a boy who is fated to die and comes to the capital to find means to avoid his death. Subsequently, he gets embroiled in the matters of his fiancee, has unexpected encounters, overturns public expectations and gets pulled into the politics of the different factions. The writing is dense and complex, and needs a good translator to unpack its full potential. View More

SKEstrada: I´m an intern in a small hospital and when there´s an emergency everybody runs to help. Mexico has low personal so there are many time when there´s not enough people or the doctors are lazy and make the intern do all the work. There are doctors that like to teach (my boss/teacher) loves to explain everything she does to me because she wants me to learn

This is just average- no glaring flaws, typical tropes, nothing stands out. MC is a medical intern who suddenly gains a system, and completes tasks to earn system rewards. Coincidences pile up (like a doctor randomly calling on him, a sudden emergency, etc.) to help him accomplish the tasks. His surprising skill as a newb earns jealous glares from males and weak legs from females. All very stereotypical. The descriptions feel very off and unrealistic to me as I have worked in hospitals and social interactions do not really happen as described (for example, no doctor talks that much during a procedure and newbs are not called upon randomly like described because of both medical ethics and potential legal repercussions). If you like Charm of Soul Pets, this book is the way to go. MC is a teenager with an ability to view the emotional status of living things (monsters and humans) and see accurately how to evolve monsters. In this world, humans can have multiple monster pets and get stronger by evolving these monsters, so MC’s ability is a pretty OP skill. Overall, this is a solid novel with good world building and character development. I personally liked it up to the present (200+ chapters), although lately it is becoming a little difficult to keep track of all the different kinds of monsters and their descriptions. View More

A comedic novel that you would read only for the laughs. I generally do not like this kind of story where the female protagonist becomes OP out of nowhere but has no redeeming personal qualities. Female protagonist randomly becomes a super cultivator but is extremely lazy, selfish, irresponsible (not trying to learn about the world she is in and irresponsibly taking on a disciple), and dismissive of others(simply using them and not even bothering to remember their names). But the writing style is really funny and it is a good read for times when you just want to chill and destress. View More

I loved this in the beginning- the story had a very interesting premise in terms of how crimes had been committed and furthermore having a female protagonist in a detective novel was unusual. But the quality dropped as coincidences upon coincidences piled up with bizarre explanations, and even more disappointingly female lead proved to be a scaredy-cat who ran to a stranger’s (male lead) home at the first sign of trouble. Male lead’s personality is also weird and I found it very difficult to like him. Overall, not highly recommended (maybe if you are bored and have no other mystery novels to read- I know they are hard to come by). View More

Personally, I feel this novel should rank near the top alongside “National school prince is a girl” and “It’s not easy to be a man after traveling to the future”. It is a very refreshing read among webnovels with female protagonists. It is so hard to find unique and different female lead stories since many follow the same tropes and cliche plot devices. As a gender bender story (where the lead literally switches gender physically every three days) with a good amount of comedy and MC’s strong, rational personality, this novel is a personal favorite (I like stories with unique plot twists like “My dad is the galaxy’s prince charming” or “The Empress’ Livestream”). Strongly recommended. View More

Definitely worth a read. This is a light, humorous novel with underlying dark themes. It requires a suspension of disbelief, letting go of logical thinking and just enjoying the book. The female protagonist is great so far- down-to-earth and taking everything in stride- even billions of years of hibernation didn't affect her curious personality. The ML is warm and caring (he is absolutely OP). Side-characters are well fleshed out as well. Overall, highly recommended (note: I have currently read up to ch 110- hoping the quality keeps up). A bit cliche with MC knowing and remembering a vast amount of knowledge that is way ahead of everyone else, but worth a read if you are looking for magic-wizards-alchemy novels. The writing is good even though I wish the author would not keep using all the usual tropes (absent parents, arrogant bullies, face-slapping, underestimated MC, etc.). I was searching for good novels with magical setting (like Warlock of the Magus World, When a Mage Revolts, Advent of the Archmage, Night Ranger), and came across this- it's reasonably good at least up to the current chapter 58. While personally I am not a big fan of “everyone deserves to be saved” precept, this is a very calming and refreshing read. It’s about a guy who is suddenly gifted with a system and forced to become an abbott in a lonely Buddhist temple. He has to complete quests and redeem/ save people to earn system merits. It’s best to just let the story wash over you and read it lightly instead of thinking deeply about the morality of various issues (which can make you angry or happy, depending on your personal views). I learnt a lot about the structure and politics of temples, which was interesting in of itself. View More

Unique spin on MC gets lucky with a system trope. The characters are very well fleshed out (including the personalities of the system, the monsters and the villains) and world building is great. Most importantly, MC retains his lazy unflappable persona in the face of it all- his body being seized by the system, beauties scheming next door, money rolling in, his fame skyrocketing, world getting overrun by rats- MC is unperturbed. He only flips out when his internet gets disconnected- we can all relate, can’t we? Highly recommended. View More

One-of-a-kind exceptional novel. Once you get past MC’s absurdity of relying on a quirky system and repeatedly courting death just to save his business and gather uncertain clues about his family, you realize that this novel is an amazing blend of mystery, horror and game elements. MC is an ******* detective, businessman and spirit master (person who can see ghosts) all rolled into one. So far, the cases were all intriguing and hair-raising (slightly predictable, but the author still managed it well). Definitely recommended. View More

Dragon King's Son-In-Law

Daoist_Jie: This is a novel with a female protagonist who transmigrates directly into a "bridal chamber" in another world (there's a backstory to how the original body ended up there), and meets up with the cold, handsome, competent male lead (the usual trope). She uses her previous hobby of cooking to make new delicious dishes, impresses the male lead, and accompanies him in his (and her own) struggles. Has a few similarities to female protagonist cooking novels like "Here comes the lady chef" and "The Two-Faced Venerate Emperor" (though the stories are very different). Worth a read if you haven't read similar novels, but for experienced readers in this genre, it offers nothing novel or exemplary.

Daoist_Jie: This is similar to classic cultivation novels, where MC after being betrayed is reincarnated into the body of a 16-year old prince thanks to a "lucky item". Following the usual trope of underestimated and bullied protagonist, MC is the "least talented" among all his brothers as he had not been able to open his "Mark" and cultivate until the age of 16 (this "mark" has something to do with the favor of Gods being bestowed on the talented). Even after the MC opens his "mark", this is not recognized and the Empress withholds resources from him and bullies his mother. First part of the book is about MC trying to overcome these hindrances and making a name for himself (I read up to chapter 95, but there are over 1,900 chapters. At least the first part is worth a read if you like the classic cultivation novels).

Daoist_Jie: In this novel, the world is a mix of futuristic setting with advanced technology like virtual reality and elements of traditional cultivation. Our MC is absolutely overpowered from his childhood, much to the surprise and shock of his superbly average parents. This novel is filled with a comedic underdone as the MC tries to stay low-key in his school life, but epically fails. In this sense MC is somewhat similar to Zhang Xuan from LoHP, although in this book the face slapping element is relatively less prominent. It is suggested as a light read for comedic relief.

Daoist_Jie: Alternatively known as “Descent of God of Magic”, this novel is shorter relative to others (less than 800 chapters), but it is a good read (although the ending feels a liitle rushed). MC travels to a game world and has a level system that gives him missions and lets him upgrade his level of magic. Armed with his knowledge from the game, MC is OP, but has a very likeable personality. He is intelligent and excels in strategies, but he is also willing to help others and go the extra mile. Romance is well developed with one key love interest (a plus for those who don’t like MC picking up girls everywhere. MC does have other women attracted to him). Overall, a recommended read.

Advent of the Archmage

Daoist_Jie: Unfortunately, this story is nothing like Long Live Summons. It is about a news editor who became a Void Traveler, traveled in the various worlds and absorbed the memories of other void travelers (the author tells the readers these in the first two chapters, so not a spoiler). Then he is summoned by a girl in a magic school, and the story starts from there as he solves her issues. I found the writing quite bland as the fantasy setting needs one to suspend disbelief, yet the author just tells things instead of showing how the events actually happen. It is readable, but nothing really stands out compared to other fantasy/ summoning novels.

Why Did You Summon Me?

Daoist_Jie: One of the best novels on this site. It retains its quality even after several hundred chapters, so definitely worth the read (unlike many other novels where the story quality drops sharply after starting out well). The world building is extremely well done, so much so that you can actually visualize the scenes in your mind. Foreshadowing is also done well, and the romance is slow but good. One of the few novels with mecha elements that I really like.

Forty Millenniums of Cultivation

Daoist_Jie: I am revising my review thanks to popcornlol who confirmed this was completed (not hiatus, as I had thought before after finishing it). This one is a very short novel with only 101 chapters, and at the end of book, it leaves you wanting the author to tie up the loose ends. Our MC had just won the national soccer championships when he has to transfer schools. One of his old friends also decide to transfer. Anyways, the team on the new school is relatively bad, and the first part of the book is focused on shaping it up through matches to make it competitive. There's the usual trope of the pretty team manager, and the unexpected wins against public expectations. I was hoping for something like the old anime/manga "Hungry Heart" with regard to how an underdog shocks the nation, but it definitely isn't as good.
