I'm curious why they haven't set up anti-cavalry defenses since they should clearly know that a cavalry would be their main opposition. This isn't an open field, this is urban combat. There's only so many directions where the cavalry can come from. Barricades, posts, fences, spikes, and spears all good deterrents against mounted foes. It's the bare minimum they can do.
By the time Charlie is still questioning why the reserve team hasn't stopped the cavalry, the vanguard of the Blood Knight Army is already clearly visible.

I always found odd that many countries with caste systems, like Japan in the past, usually had merchants and tradesmen at the very bottom of the caste system hierarchy. Apparently it was because merchants didn't create or produced anything and didn't offer anything in war. Peasants tended to produce pretty much all of basics essentials needed to survive and the nobility tended to get the essentials through taxation. Meaning that merchants mostly dealt in non-essential items or in essential stuff needed by those affected by misfortune.
In front of the nobles, the merchants, no matter how wealthy, were just lambs waiting to be slaughtered.

For some strange reason he does seem to be in a hurry to do this. Even though he can't possibly reap the rewards of it yet.
For Trier, a leading global metropolis, the ingredients Ludwig needed were easily collected, and by noon, Lumian and Lugano had returned to see Ludwig placing the main ingredients along with the umbilical remnant into a stew pot filled with several hundred milliliters of milk.

Perhaps you can bypass it by sacrificing a high rank member from the Monarch of Decay Pathway.
"Yes," Franca said with a pained expression, "Is there no way to bypass this ritual? Or is there an equivalent, less evil ritual?"

That's a harsh one. Specially if you actually have morals. That said, this would work insanely well with the Outer Deity Pathway that political aide guy had in Volume 2.

Ding-ding—a vehicle resembling a steam train came from the other end of the street. It had few segments, just two, with no distinctive chimney but a strangely shaped bracket extending from the top, connecting to something in midair.

Isa nodded in agreement, no longer pressing the matter. She was indeed confident in Colin.

They also noticed his black hair slowly lengthening, tinted with a blood-like glow.

I hope that he does. I always like a story where the protagonist has an apprentice.
He was eager to see just how capable the prince was. If he proved satisfactory, perhaps Colin would truly consider taking him as a student.
