Commented It's essentially a warzone so this is not very surprising. Rape and murder can happen in a peaceful city in the real world much less the wilds in a world where humans are fighting for survival.

I feel it wouldn't hurt to have his parent's input in this. He just chose a college without really checking out the others. If he let the other colleges know about him they might offer better conditions that trump staying close to family. If I was his parent that's what I'd tell him.
