A terminally bored IT guy finds a sub-dimension in the back stairwell of his office building. It escalates from there. _____ If you'd like to support the author, you can find me on Patreon at https://www.patreon.com/user?u=768711 If you'd like to join us in our Discord server, try https://discord.gg/wDjugAy And if you want to browse, or help maintain, the Wiki, you can find *that* over at http://the-daily-grind.wikia.com/wiki/The_Daily_Grind_Wiki This story was originally posted on RoyalRoad, and that's where you'll be able to find the author's notes if you so desire them.

Moments

This is true, but also not likely. The webfic I write, The Daily Grind, clocks in at somewhere around 8k readers. Currently, my Patreon has a scant 33 people donating, many of them only $1. So, yes, the author COULD have done that, but it probably wouldn't make them anywhere close to enough to live off of. View More

eval: Shouldve gone for patreon, if there is atleast 1000 readers and all of them paid atleast $3/month the author would have $3000 per month. SMH, this is a short sighted move.....

Hi there. While I appreciate that you're looking out for plagiarism, I feel like I should let you know that I *am* the actual author. This is a secondary posting, usually about one or two chapters behind the one on RoyalRoad, and it has a link to the main one up in the description. Along with a link to the actual discord, and my actual patreon. If you need to check up on this, feel free to message me over on RR; but just know that this isn't the stolen one. This site was pretty decent about removing the fake early on, even though I had to jump through some hoops. View More

There is romance. Whether or not it counts as a "harem" depends on how you define that. Spoilers, if you want them : three of the characters do end up in a relationship together. And while that is a bit off the beaten path in terms of stable relationships, it's also not something I think of as a harem, if that makes sense? It's also not the main focus of the story; though that could be said about literally anything at this point. View More

Yeah, I wish I had more time to write, but so far, Patreon is just barely keeping me above water when combined with my job. So I try to put as much effort into every chapter as I can, but sadly, that means that we only get one a week or so. View More

Maybe I'm biased, but I think it's pretty good. A story about friendship, life, and the random button on Wikipedia; what more could you need? View More

I totally understand; I'm not a huge fan of people rating things just because they believe the average rating "should be different". It's a big problem with the board gaming community, and I'd hate to think it's showing up here. I just wanted to clarify my stance, so everyone knew I was rating it as I did due to personal opinions and not just because I wanted the number to go down. View More

Skiller: well i did say it's your opinion if you rate 2 stars on good reason well i don't care but i'm not forcing you to read it :))

To be clear: I'm giving it a bad rating because I think it's bad. In addition to that, I don't understand why people think it's good. Perhaps it becomes better later; I wouldn't know because I'm not prepared to read through it. It's not well written, so it's kind of hard for me to understand what's supposed to be happening anyway, but if the author has cool ideas to communicate, then I'll often overlook that. Except here, the ideas just seem to be random and constant acquisition of power for the sake of power. That bores me, even in my power fantasies. View More

Skiller: this is your opinion but it's still wrong because he doesn't become a slaughterer later actually he goes to university :)
you can say the first chapters an arc about crime and fighting but the next one is university .
i just don't think you have to vote a bad review because it doesn't deserve it's ranking .

I don't get the rave reviews here. This story is... bad. It's about a person who goes from someone with no self-esteem (a character trait worth exploring and working up from) to someone who's a sociopathic murder, killing at their own convenience. In three chapters.

Nevermind that he's provided with conveniently Nazi-esque enemies to slaughter, or that he escalates to three times the pinnacle of human accomplishment in a matter of paragraphs. Just the whole use of the system is lazy and boring. It's just a sassy partner character (which, again, could be interesting, but here becomes grating), that gives him whatever it wants because apparently as a sentient capital-s System it's allowed to ignore any rules it might have and set its own prices.

Look, I get it. It's cool to have a power fantasy. But this one... does not deserve to be at the top of the rankings. Maybe it gets better later, maybe the author improves. I wouldn't know; I couldn't stomach it. View More

ActuallyArgus: Okay, the main character is something different. I appreciate that.
That said, I literally wrote something like this as a bad joke once; the punchline being that there was never a paragraph without a level up, and the things leveling getting increasingly silly. And here, it seems to be played totally straight, and not that... weird. It just happens, and that's all. It's not bad, just bland. I'll read more, and adjust this if it changes later on, but still, it's kinda hard to get through sometimes.

I'm actually really digging this part, though I'd like to see more of our heroic protagonist MacGuyvering his way through problems. Putting his engineering skill to use to come up with hardware solutions to wetware problems. View More

Classic author trick; show the reaction to something but not the deed itself, to make it feel more universal to the audience. It works well here, though. View More

SenileBoy: Only read this story on a whim. Really great world building as far as the dungeon. Descriptive but not in an overwhelming way. I really dont like the addition of the female character not because she's a female but more her views. Like we have to fix the world and why are you guys not doing more to help people. Forget that noise. Hopefully she'll get killed off, probably not.

"I... forgot about that. Fine, money from the... Empire of Wank, I don't know." Anesh fluttered a hand in the air, dismissing that line of thinking. "The point is, Alanna's right. It is weird. Though Dave is also right."]

This story so far reads like a dose of anime tropes infused into battletech. It's pretty cool, though sometimes cheesey. But that level of camp just makes me enjoy it a bit more. View More

Honestly, either is fine. The story itself doesn't change, and since I've lost the free time to update frequently, it's not that hard to keep up with the schedule on both. If you're interested in a robust comments section, then RR is the place for it, since there's just a larger audience talking there. But if you're comfortable with this site, and don't care about the discussion, there's nothing wrong with reading here. View More

There's nothing here. It doesn't even really establish the parameters of a system for the cat; it's just... a stream of consciousness burst of cat-things. It's kind of cute, but it's not engaging. View More
