The concept of force is the interaction between two objects in which energy is transformed or exchanged. And gravity is a field force, which means it doesn't need physical contact to propagate. Gravity is a force that manifests itself through a distortion in the fabric of space-time, this distortion is regulated in three great theories, The Newtonian Theories(Universal Gravitation), The General Relativity and The Standard Theory of Particle Mechanics. Some may argue that gravity is the consequence of the curves in the fabric of space-time, but it doesn't change the fact that it is the characteristics of these bodies of mass that define how these interactions are going to happen. To summarize, a field force is still a force, even if the interaction is not direct, the existence of a medium doesn't matter. It's hard to explain such deep concepts in a simple comment, so I'm sorry if it wasn't clear enough.
'Forces are the fundamental energies of the universe. Third Dimensional worlds identify these Forces as Gravity, Electromagnetism, Strong Force and Weak Force. They are in fact correct about these four, however, they are oversimplified.
