Actually... I have similar thoughts, but think crippling is the better option for one reason... Personal choice. Kill them, and they're gone. Nothing more can be done. Cripple them, and they can still do something... Maybe their world is shattered, but if they well and truly believe being crippled is worse than death, then they have the option to embrace death by their own power. The fact that there are crippled cultivators still around means they don't truly believe it to be worse than death... Not on a deeper level. They still fear death more than a future without cultivation. It's a dark line of thought, but I'll stand by it.
