I was pretty sure I just stood there for like 20 minutes just mulling over which one to choose. Ultimately, I chose Ralts because his talent had so many possibilities. So, him having to train an extra 2-3 years was negligible, especially since I was still young and my official journey was still far off.

one thought : he shoul still have tried to join the junior league too - he has enough young pokemon, that he could enter with, and use the gym and tournament as training for. and i dont think even s rank gyms are supposed to be this tough..

maybe ... but the least he could do was choose some common pokemon that could become very strong very fast or relatively fast... growlithe , horsea , abra are all common enough he would not get hunted by people he could not handle. if it was early kanot, even choosing gible could be a good choice - he could hide its dragon typing with some trouble until he gets a full team... anything but a random choice would be good. hell, even choosing a machop or beedrill is better than a chance of getting a shuckle or worse...

ash's one is the only one we see not listening to him. thats because it became too powerfull too fast. it ended up being his strongest by a wide margin. it had to evolve twice to save his life, and decided he was too weak to be his trainer. and i agree.
I'm definitely not stupid enough to pass up a regional starter but the choice is quite difficult. Charmander will not be part of my pick as I need a Pokemon who easily listens to my commands as it evolves.

i want to see a dozen people trying to keep mothra down with disable - trying to stop it from attacking, and mothra bringing out a new move everytime a move is disabled... and maybe learn a new move from one of the attackers to top it all...
