Hello everyone, clinical psychologist here. Psychogenic autism is autism born of tree psyche. In this case, autism refers to any symptoms brought about by turning inwards to fulfill psychological needs. The author's use of the word is accurate, though the term which might be more readily understood might be a state of catatonia (also an inactive state, but more related to psychosis and not relevant here). Just understand that severe trauma can result in people acting like a shell of themselves and this state can accurately be called a state of autism.

The world building is kinda shoddy. We have plenty of stories about realistic fiction. Why would fantasy die down just because people got powers?
However, the love for Vampires never died down for Layla, it only grew. If abilities exited then that meant somewhere out their maybe vampires did too. When she saw Quinn's actions, she had already convinced herself that he was a vampire.
