The reason for this is because he made it a habit to always increase his pain endurance whenever he got home. Not that he was planning on actually stabbing himself, but 'seeing' himself get stabbed.

eye of the storm is the center of the storm, you can learn it science class, just like in the news when reporting the rain you would see a red rotating eye like thing that tells you the center or eye of the storm

My current goal was to reach the eye of the storm as it was the safest place to be inside of the storm. The reason why the eye was so calm was that the strong surface winds that converge towards the center never reach it due to a force called the Coriolis force.
