For everyone complaining about him being anemic: A quick Google search told me that although the blood volume can be regained quickly, most of the volume is just plasma. It takes longer for red blood cells to reproduce. I don't know about other places, but in the U.S. you can only donate about a pint of blood every 8 weeks (FDA regulations) to make sure you stay healthy and don't become anemic. One pint is about 9,500 drops. That's about 7 drops of blood every hour on average. With how often he dies some days and all the times he is injured and bleeds, I'm not surprised he's anemic.

From what I've gathered, it decreases the chance of death, and the more active people are the less likely they will be judged as a passive gamer. Overall, I think the incentive is being able to live better (at least, for those that have enough courage to face zombies and whatnot
