You can do research for private companies for R&D but those wont published. Also you can be commissioned for publish an article or research for a new issue of a journal for pocket money or no money at all. Journals and indexes are monopolizing the money and researchers wont get a penny for even most influential papers of theirs. Moreover, sometimes researchers pays to the journals so their paper could be published… so no, you can’t gain investment money from academic research.

Fiction characters inherently different from game characters tho. It does not disturb me when a game character's int is 100 or 1000 but a fiction character is accepted as a real in that fiction. And as a reader, i let myself inverse in this fiction reality. When a decision making, sapiens-like character has a status that describes their streght, dexterity and intelligence, you would except that represent it. It doesnt right to gatekeep, its your story, therefore your rules. But as writer of it, to represent mana, you can change the status setup. You dont need secondary symboles to represent one thing that you can do directly. It is offputting. Thats what I feel and it effects my inversation to a story, which I believe I'm not the only one feeling that way. Sorry for bad english :)

MC doesnt sound like a 13 y/o. Especially highly skilled in multiple martial arts and doesn't have a social life as implied but also know many fictions... He literally just gained sentienty. Biologically, couple of years before, he shouldnt be able understand abstract concepts. Why not age him couple of years? 15-16 would be less unbelivable and more relatable...
