Hypophosphate - Profile

I can’t exactly put my finger on why exactly, but I like the novel. I wouldn’t say it’s the best thing I’ve ever read, but I’ve enjoyed myself while reading. If you’re short on time and only want to read the best of the best, I would probably pass on this, but if you do have the time you likely wont regret the time and money you spent reading it.

Seeing as I’m 300 chapters in and haven’t regretted it I think a review is long overdue. The story has developed at a good pace, and sticks to past rules and precedence. The story builds on itself and the MC grows. As far as I remember there hasn’t been much growth for side characters though, which is definitely unfortunate. One gripe I have is while the antagonists plot, scheme and try to hinder the MCs growth in a logical way, the MC hasn’t really suffered any major losses.

Honestly feels like a worse knock off version of Mushoku Tensei. The characters (as of chapter 35) don’t really feel human, there’s no real emotion to them. I’d like to think part of that is due to the authors choice because MC has a mental age of >40 and doesn’t really want to put up with being a child again. Regardless, I don’t think that it does the story any favors. The story itself is a good concept, I just think that (at least as far as chapter 35) the author didn’t do an exceptional job executing it.

The first 15 or so chapters are really good, however I didn’t like the direction that the author took after that. Just personal preference for me.
