This is a great novel that I highly recommend to anyone looking for a good cultivation novel. This isn't a novel that's going to define a new genre or spark a new wave but it knows what it is and doesn't try to be weird or quirky just for the hell of it. The inclusion of pets adds an interesting layer to the first realm of the novel which is nicely utilized without turning the whole thing into pokemon. The novel does however suffer from a lack of consistent side characters and most of the action is focused on the mc when he is alone and the only real partner that he has is his pet. That is not to say that the side characters that do exist are bad, they just don't get much screen time and when they do it's mostly so their friends can piss off the mc. The world-building isn't anything special but the author does have a good grasp of foreshadowing and makes each new area unique. Although it would be nice to see something other than forests, towers, or arenas, an underwater setting would be great. The mc is great, he has dimensions unlike many other novels and takes on a variety of roles throughout the story, from fighter to healer. Furthermore has multiple motivations for his actions. Many novels these days have protagonists that only care about their "Family" and ignore anything else, but this mc is motivated by many things: spite, greed, pleasure, power. He enjoys what he does and develops as a well-rounded person. My greatest hope for this novel is that when the mc eventually leaves his planet, that he does so of his own free will and choice and not by some plot driven accident or vengeful scheme.
