I honestly don't understand why they would let her go on thinking her food is great. Really, that's anime-logic for you. If my friend was this horrible at cooking, I'd try to tell her that there was some room for improvement and give her a taste of what she just made. I honestly like it. You do not want to know how many movies I've seen in which dangerous situations, kidnapping/hostages, etc., could have been prevented by open communication.
I know that many readers will not like me revealing Gwen's identity to her loved ones. But I will only say that she had Peter's example in front of her which helped her make this decision. Moreover, the lizard incident was also a major factor for this decision.
