you can actually. u just need a high level mastery of it.if u had read the fight between voldy and dumbles in the ministry(in the books) u can read that voldy occasionally didn't read out the spell but green light shoots out of his wand and dumbles block with something or other.

Though he added one verbal spell to them: The Killing Curse. He left it at last, but performed it nevertheless. He needed to get used to it, so he could eventually perform it silently. Say whatever you want about the Killing Curse, but it was useful. There was no denying that. It's a good thing the walls were enchanted with a Silencing Charm, otherwise all of Kaiser's year mates would be alarmed. He could, unfortunately, only cast it twice. It required an enormous amount of energy and concentration. Kaiser took a shower and spent the rest of the time reading in the RoR.

I think the author means that we can hide philosopher stone in a location and hide the location with Fidelius Charm not the items . because if someone is watching Full Metal Alchemist and no one can hear philosopher stone or see it ,it is going to be a big blunder(just a example I know fma wasn't made at that time).

maybe quills with magic bird feathers have power and is used for something like runes,etc. and I think parchment won't get easily spoilt like paper,the contents written on parchment can last centuries if maintain properly .There are some advantages and disadvantages to everything we can read the notes of people like Snape who can create spells and improve potions even a century later even if the notes are not maintain properly. Many old knowledge can be found on parchment. this all is not possible using normal paper. And maybe parchment is less susceptible to the damage caused by using spells like using fire charm or water summoning spell .It would cause less damage to parchment than to paper
