i mean, one of them is 24/7 in the dream world, constantly fighting for her life, while the other is training his little sister in the dream world, running a business to sell stuff in the real and dream world and also is training other weapons and fighting styles. So yeah, the other stuff (except training rain) helps sunny to get stronger (feeding saint memories, training shadow dance), but in terms of essence he didn't really think that he could surpass Nephis? not only that she is fighting more, she also receives double the amount of essence from any kills (soul shard and the from the kill directly like sunny)
Compared to all other Awakened and their rate of growth, Sunny might have been a monster. But Neph… Neph was not even human. She was the devil himself. He didn't know what else to do to surpass her.

we have no idea how strict his aspect is on this. Like if neph asks him to do something, for example 'can you give me a glass of water', does this count as a command already? we don't know. Also we have a mc who literally can't lie and still manages to fool everybody, so do you really think he won't find a workaround? Also why so much hate for his aspect? there is finally a story with a character who can't just walk around and do whatever he wants to do, but has to work for it. I think this is very interesting, because reading people walk around, face slapping whoever they want without any consequences for example, gets hella boring
