Fighting like a 'Man' means Fighting with your fists, Fighting when you could die or Fighting in the face of Adversity. From what I've seen he more of a 'Man' than your brats who beat down and bully those less powerful and less fortunate than themselves.

Pretty sure Gid could destroy 2000 planets either the size of Earth or Jupiter meaning he's a lot higher on the powerscale than the Saiyans and Frieza currently, at least I think so but he may have gotten a powerboost since DBZ is involved.
I don't want the likely strongest race in the closest galaxy to Planet Earth as my enemy. Saiyans were still more powerful than King Deviluke, but Saiyans probably resided outside the Milky Way. Or what was left of them anyway, thanks to Frieza's meddling. With Goku being sixteen years old, Planet Vegeta was probably long gone by now.
