"Don't try to hit on the shares the elder gives her. I don't care about that petty sum either. You can just buy it over; the money would be enough for her to use the rest of her life. Even though I didn't raise her, I did give birth to her but I don't owe her anything. I've been considerably kind to her."

This book is great and it sets up the series nicely. I love how the main characters are shown having both internal and external struggles. This book reminds me of the saying "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." Will Gideon give up love for Jade's safety?
